Hey Lains,
I've recently suffered from great bouts of existential depression and in that period I thought quite long and hard about life and it's numerous absurdities. In that time I went looking for other scientific theories to justify some kind of afterlife and landed on biocentrism.
Biocentrism is the idea that time and space are tools of the mind, rather than the other way round. Using quantum physics to rationalise itself.
The idea that the conciousness is really what creates life has been studied throughly since the 90's. Scientists have already discovered that objects that are not observed with seem to have different properties in that moment of time(called the Observer Effect.)
I'm interested in what other Lainanons here think about this, especially those of you who work in scientific fields. My understanding, admittedly is quite basic, but I think none the less this theory beats 'nothing'.

I don't know about all that, but the Observer Effect is not thought to have mystical or metaphysical implications. That's a common misunderstanding. It's just that observation is a physical process that requires the process being observed to be physically affected. It's not a strange connection to consciousness itself.
Imagine a giant who only has the sense of feeling. In attempting to observe the city of New York, the giant destroys a large part of it. It is not reasonable for the giant to conclude that merely becoming conscious of the city altered it. It's a byproduct of the process of getting the thing out there into the mind, speaking loosely.

I think all our _a priori_ faculties were required by evolution so the specie could survive, including the notion of space-time and logic. Noumenon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noumenon) shapes phenomenon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenomena_%28philosophy%29). Our experiences are interpretations of the thing-in-itself, the essence of all things.

"Biocentrism" had an entirely different meaning before Robert Lanza took it for his own and now his crap floods all the search results.

this was an interesting study I found, basically the way you think about reality can actually change it

time and space are constructs of humans in reference to our current understanding of laws in nature.
time is only a measure of observation with an applied frame of reference, on its most basic level, time exists only as a construct of observing a sequence of events. for most practical purposes, time is measured by atomic cycles in highly sophisticated machines to provide a count of "seconds" that turn to minutes that turn to hours and so forth. in the past, time was observed as the number of events that occurred between a sequence of recurring celestial events (the sun rising and setting or the travel of celestial objects across the sky as with stars)
but from a physics standpoint, energy never really goes away because of conservation laws.
Someone else may be able to explain it better, I know that there are quantum physicists here on lainchan, and my understanding of the physical world is also limited

re the video: so, focused human attention affects whether or not quantum systems collapse to a very small degree?
time is of course relative as per einsteins theory of general relativity. to say that it's a human construct though is more of a philosophical thing: as far as our current understanding of physics goes, even if humans never existed, time would still exist
when you talk about "observation" or "frame of reference" on a quantum level, you aren't necessarily talking about human observation. quantum systems can be collapsed without a human interfering - in the original double slit experiment, you don't need a conscious being to read the result of the observation that makes the quantum system collapse, you only need to make that observation.

please, PLEASE stop misinterpreting quantum mechanics this way.
An "observer" in QM is any particle that is interacting non-negligebly with the "observee". Consciousness is not part of that at all.
