How do you accept reality?
Tequila · 2023-12-19 23:55
I think it's because I grew up watching anime and playing video games instead of engaging with more grounded media and interacting with people in real life that I developed completely unrealistic desires. But even though I stopped engaging with escapist, wish fulfillment, self-insert media I still am constantly at odds with reality.
What I struggle most with is that in fiction everything has a reason. There are bad endings but usually if the protagonist meets a pretty woman they will fall in love and live happily ever after. The bad guy exists just to be defeated. If the protagonist experiences a setback like getting brain damage it's only to unlock his magical powers. In role playing video games almost everything you see you can get eventually. That super expensive armor? You know you will be able to afford it at some point.
But in reality we are thrown into life without given a specific purpose that we can fulfill and there are a lot of desires that are forever out of our reach. Hard work can bring you far but you also need intelligence, talent and luck which is outside of your control. Some people are just better than you and there is nothing you can do. You also don't really have control over your thoughts. Meanwhile you age and your body decays so there are less opportunities with time. What if with 40 you suddenly get the desire to become an astronaut? What if suddenly you hate your job and feel like you wasted your life? There are many choices but very limited time.
This makes the pursuit of happiness feel less like an opportunity but more like a curse. It makes me feel like buddhists got it right with desire being the root of suffering. But it's hard to let go of all these attachments. Without desire life feels empty at the same time.
You might want to tell me to grow up but I've been struggling with this for a long time. Has anyone here managed to get down to earth despite growing up with idealized escapist media? What is your mindset like?

>Has anyone here managed to get down to earth despite growing up with idealized escapist media? What is your mindset like?
Yes. My mindset? I do not know what you mean by that term although i have certainly heard it many times before. I suppose you mean my attitude towards life. My attitude is that i am growing a garden of neurofibres with beauty, meaning it is done with style that sustains the soul with its rhythmic pulse. i continue to grow and use the world as materials, and if the world is bland i look deeper into the world that i find already explored and find much more within it, i create more within my mind, but i know very well they are systems my mind has created, so i can progress more to enjoy living in the same way one might enjoy living in a party, living with their work etc. You probably have too different a perspective to understand effectively what these words mean.
What I tell you is to see the infinite value in the empty then choose something well out of it. A good starting place is nature, see the infinite value in a simple garden. INfinite value means the infinite possibilities and depth of things. Try and figure out what this means by going into a garden, you backyard or whatever where there is nature and see the depth.
>Let go of attachments.
Another word, to not be a miserable fuarrrk you must let go of what you desire the most, despite how painfully you may react in body/spirit/mind.
Good luck.

>How do you accept reality?
You confront it.
>But in reality we are thrown into life without given a specific purpose that we can fulfill and there are a lot of desires that are forever out of our reach.
The aim's to be happy, to be happy you become autonomous and help others. The aim's to fuarrrking embrace God and do good.
>Some people are just better than you and there is nothing you can do.
They trained themselves on skills over years. In fact you can literally get okay at anything if you invest 20 hours learning it.
>What if suddenly you hate your job and feel like you wasted your life?
I don't fuarrrking like jobs especially in these times when you work for some technoindustrial monopoly that only wants more mindless consumers. Jobs are supposed to be working with others collectively for a goal you all want for the good of society and not doing something you're kind of into it every fuarrrking day for 50 years for a "living".
>Without desire life feels empty at the same time.
You sure have non-Hedonistic goals which you won't regret no matter what (I had a 5k run and I'm so grateful about it)
>You might want to tell me to grow up but I've been struggling with this for a long time.
I don't want to personally attack you but you must understand that having a "huge" transformation takes years of consistency, maybe a couple years or four years. You know you can't change overnight with little effort; but also get into the blue ocean and get different from everybody else.
>What is your mindset like?
It's fuarrrking optimism, perhaps this is all you need. Look at the pic of swimming rats and see how hope can make you more powerful than you ever thought. I am a fuarrrking broke NEET with a broken elbow living under his parents' roof in an urban dystopia and get to a fuarrrking college I hate, and yet I know there's a way out which I keep working on.

unlucky

wrong. any reason why Sauron betrayed his teacher and turned to black magic? why being jealous?

true
>You also don't really have control over your thoughts.
untrue. you have moderate influence and can do some useful adjustments that will take a long time to shape.
>what if
wrong. doesn't make sense thinking about what if A does X 20 years later. you don't know soykaf about what happens 1 year later.
>What is your mindset like?
don't have one right now

and hope it doesn't crush you in a little pile of bloody mess.

elaborate

cirno says internet has everything you need and all skills can be gained in a month or two .jpg
>Jobs are supposed to be working with others collectively for a goal you all want for the good of society
only true in fiction
> NEET
> go to college
ahh, if i read this first i wouldn't even bother

>ahh, if i read this first i wouldn't even bother
Just a typo cause I'm new here and didn't know what NEET means much. Forget about it.
>and hope it doesn't crush you in a little pile of bloody mess.
It doesn't matter.
>only true in fiction
True and that's why I fuarrrking hate jobs; I'd rather work temporarily to escape later just as Ted did lol.
Why are you so hopeless lain?

>Just a typo cause I'm new here and didn't know what NEET means much. Forget about it.
this is why i said i shouldn't have bothered at all.
>Why are you so hopeless lain?
because for me there is no light ahead and i am fuarrrking scared of all the soykaf that awaits. it kinda takes effort to gather courage. and i am not blessed with supportive companions like in fiction, so i have to carry on through this soykaf myself and damn i wish i was at least fuarrrking prepared you don't jump out of a plane first day you wear the fuarrrking parachute hoping for the best.
anyway you will not understand it ever unless you have to go through the same crap which i hope you don't. better be a clueless kid figuring out the heck are imageboards than this crap i've been dragged into. honestly what is god thinking forcing me to do this? does he expect a miracle? will he give one? does he give soykaf at all? it's scary to take blind steps hoping you don't fall down a cliff. and i don't even have rope for the plan B

This fuarrrking book's your answer. Read every page of it.
It's not some soykaffy motivational crap (the author himself said fuarrrk motivation) but it will change the way you look at your life no matter the fuarrrk you're having.
>and i am not blessed with supportive companions like in fiction,
Same as you, I've no friends to hang out with and yet I'm not complaining.
>honestly what is god thinking forcing me to do this? does he expect a miracle? will he give one? does he give soykaf at all?
Life itself is a test and you have to go through the obstacles; no matter what encouters you you must pray for success and then fuarrrking work on your soykaf (remember the law of cause and effect).

i.e. no one to talk to including online. I've even no Discord cause I'm alone there. (and is a mass surveillance app)
I feel like many lains are fuarrrking like this including me, the only place they can communicate is in some imageboards with complete strangers over tor.
Well, is this an issue? Not sure because I've screwed up a lot in the past and started liking solitude and yet here I am in this fuarrrking imageboard speaking to random people whom I feel I can belong to.
I have no idea what to say about it.

i'm sure you'll find friends and your life will be alright, lain. just stop abusing imageboards they are deeply evil these days. pretty much like everything else, but everything else at least gets you what your brain expects.
