Conscripts don't tend to. They aren't used to active combat and don't expect to face it and will break under pressure, especially without support. Seems many Israeli checkpoints were overwhelmed by Hamas guerrillas using classic infiltration tactics and encirclements. The opening assaults begun at 5am, when the guards switch, the new shift were half awake and the night shift were too tired. Some innovative tactics here, using drones to disable communications equipment, new anti-tank tactics and paragliders to airdrop men over the border. Penetrating a massive layered defensive line like that is no easy feat. Israeli troops are also very dependent on air support and tanks, without them unit morale breaks down and they panic and act confused which is what happened in Lebanon in 2006. Israel's military doctrine has clearly failed. Its not just intelligence, their military doctrine and strategy is completely fuarrrked and Hamas had a good plan and executed it well.
What really worries me is the Israeli's are clearly going to go in and flatten the Gaza strip. Where are all the civilians going to go? Gaza is blockaded on all sides and densely populated and Netanyahu is talking about turning it into "a ruin." Either way, an Israeli invasion of Gaza would be as ugly as the battles of Grozny or Fallujah but x10 worse. In Chechnya, the Russian invasion failed to destroy the guerrillas so Israelis saying they'll annihilate Hamas is wishful thinking. Hamas has broken Che's golden rule of guerrilla warfare: the guerrilla should always be defensive until there's a balance between the guerrilla and the military, only when the military is weak do you go on the offensive. But then again, like the Vietcong's Tet Offensive, a short term military failure can be a long term political success.
Definitely an interesting war to keep an eye on. I have buddies in the West Bank too (;__;)

america and britain did also use gliders for air assault on the famous D-day (not to exclusion of course). Pretty quiet and pretty cheap, compared to other options.
OP were these soldierettes actually guarding something? do we know context of their capture ? I had thought the jews avoided putting their soldierettes on front line places where they'd see combat but its not something I know anything about, and perhaps the glider soldiers moving past the presumed frontline voided such precautions.
Interesting situation, I just hope the US doesn't send even more billions of dollars to either of these factions!

afaik these were taken prisoner after Hamas attacked the Erez military facility. As you can see from their uniforms, they are female IDF soldiers. When the facility was attacked half the IDF there were asleep in their barracks, hence some of them are partially dressed or not carrying equipment. They were caught entirely by surprise.
>america and britain did also use gliders for air assault on the famous D-day
yeah but this is the first time a guerrilla group has done it as far as i know. on d day the allies had air and naval support. these guys did everything DIY without an air force or navy.

true, but they're also not assaulting a beach and doing it over a much shorter distance. I'm not saying its unimpressive, its certainly neat, but its not entirely novel. Israel will now have issues mobilizing a response, as hamas has already made good progress.
I also assume hezbolla will join the war sooner or later.
As jews have since the standing of israel been bombing civilians, i would not be surprised, if in the case of a counteroffensive, they would intend for massive civilian casualties.
The Fin · 2023-10-08 14:51
Looks like the socialist PFLP, the Lion's Den and the Christian groups in the West Bank are trying to join in. Doubt they'll do anything major but now Israel has to deal with Hamas in the south, the West Bank, and Hezbollah in the north.
>>74896
Still its quite a feat for a group that started out as a small terrorist cell. Now they've shown their capable of launching a well coordinated and planned offensive combining land forces, boats and barrages of rockets and shells. This is the first time a Palestinian guerrilla group has gone on the offensive deep into Israel. They've attacked border kibbutzim before but never as far as Ashkelon. Until now, a lot of Palestinians wrote off the possibility of successful asymmetric and guerrilla warfare against Israel. This changes everything. Israeli and Palestinian politics won't be the same after this.
>>74897
US military has a wonder weapon fetish. Since the Rumsfeld era they've put their faith in shiny new technology transforming warfare and allowing them to achieve the unachievable (e.g. the drone campaign in Afghanistan and Pakistan was a massive fail). Israel has the same disease, over reliance on fancy equipment and poor long term strategy. Look at the pundits on mainstream media. They're all asking why Israeli intelligence failed, as if the fog of war doesn't exist and a modern military is supposed to have this god eye view of everything and know exactly what's going on.
>>74899
It could take them a week or so to mobilize. Southern Israel is full of infiltrators and there's no real idea of where exactly some of them are. Then you've got Hezbollah in the north, and their probably better equipped and trained than the actual Lebanese army.
Where else are Gazans going to go? The whole area is blockaded and Israelis are talking about annihilating the place. They are throwing out warnings to civilians but that's just to cover their ass. We all know innocent civilians have nowhere to go. The Isreaelis intend to expel them and probably massacre a ton of them in the process.

It doesn't matter if you simp for Israel or not, it's obvious that attention to Israel or jews is what feeds them and what gives them power.
Nobody talks about Armenia/Azerbeijan war, nobody talks about Ukraine/Russia war, nobody talks about current heating up in northern Kosovo with 3 dead policeman and couple of Russia funded Serbs doing covert operations, nobody is talking about ongoing Yemen or South Sudan wars.
But oh sure, feed the flames that want to be fed. Give them material, I don't care. But you guys obviously don't understand the psyop. It's the usual "in group out group" sort of mentality where jews paint themselves as victims and give little bit of material to the rest of the world so others would voice their satisfaction, eventually influencing other jews to huddle together.
Instead, live your lives, shut up and don't cheer on this thing. Ignore it.

It takes skill to hit a moving target like that with small arms, although the M4s most IDF troops carry would probably be useless. Anti-air guns can probably take them down but I'm guessing the Israelis don't have any there because they weren't expecting an air assault. They knocked out Gaza's only airport over a decade ago so they got lazy and complacent and assumed they'd never be attacked from above unless its a home made bottle rocket or the occasional drone, which usually do little to no damage anyway.

yes I'm sure, but there's a lot of people who are pretty good shots. The risk of small arms to aircraft, especially slow moving and low altitude ones like these, is I think a little underplayed. Vietnam war heli pilots were as I understand it reasonably wary of attack by small arms; it could and did sometimes take them down. One guy with a rifle obviously isnt going to do that much to that many individual gliders, but could he maybe take one out ? I think so, if he was a good shot and lucky. Hard to tell what the actual altitude there is but its not high.

It's pretty clear the Western liberal and neocon establishment will back Israel no matter what. Israel has invaded and annexed foreign territories and carried out ethnic cleansing, they've broke every rule of the "rules based international order" and get away with it. They don't need to legitimize land grabbing because their allowed to do it. The US rubber stamped their annexation of parts of Syria and if you look at Netanyahu's last speech at the UN, he held up a map which implied Israel will officially annex the West Bank at some point. Israel could drop a nuke on Norway and get a slap on the wrist. The New York Times would probably put out an op ed supporting it.

A point to consider is to what extent this may have been permitted in the service of some kitegov military agenda. Modern states seem to be in love with dramatic attacks which allow them to paint themselves as victims, as with basically all American Wars since 1812, but also like Russia-Ukraine and USSR in wwii. Initial situation is always more complicated, but media tries to frame the war as starting at point X when they attacked us, and thus we have the myth that i.e. US entered WWII because of Pearl Harbour.
In any case, I wouldn't jump to assume that the kitegov isn't willing to sacrifice some of their citizens in order to justify greater retaliation & extra billions of shekels from their sponsors, but that don't make their opponents innocent either. Sounds like the US is already sending the Gerald Ford, so at least we'll maybe get to see if they've finally got those catapults working.

If its an excuse then its in their interests to overplay how effective the enemy is. At this moment I imagine there's a lot of confusion. Initial death estimates around 9-11 frequently went over 10k. Those buildings were _huge_. Play up carnage and rape and murder enough and maybe you can even turn some milequetoast liberals into Palastine Haters again. If this is a performance its not for the hardcore zionists but for the proverbial swing voters who need to be convinced that a war is necessary and retribution just, and likely were previously being swayed by all the dumb sympathy stories about poor palestinians. Che says a guerrilla is a social reformer who fights on behalf of the people. Hamas messed this part up by attacking civilians directly. I don't think the festival massacre was deliberate, probably panicking militants with too much adrenaline loosing their head, but threatening to kill hostages is. Hamas posting videos of this stuff online is damaging their image outside of Palestine and hardcore Jew haters.

There are other benefits to glider insertion, like anti-aircraft radar and air defense systems not being able to detect/engage. Fire control radars are calibrated for aircraft signatures, not ultralight sized chairs and parachutes with no radar return flying low over the ground. Iran launched one of the best air strikes on Iraq by flying super low to avoid Air defense radar detection with low altitude air refueling.
Hamas is definately taking a lot of low tech from Ukraine and applying it against Israel. They have been taking out tanks frequently with the DJI drone tactics that ISIS prototyped and Ukraine perfected.
USA already is sending battleships and air support to contain the conflict.

>>74899

Ivan Horvat · 2023-10-09 20:22
Hamas has lost the image war clearly. At least where it matters anyway. The last war came after the George Floyd scandal which helped them somewhat and Israeli casualties were practically negligible. But massacres aside, they lost because they invaded Israel. Westerners can’t tolerate it when Palestinians go on the offensive. They don’t see “non state actors” or any kind of Islamic group as legitimate so whenever Hamas is winning, it’s easy to portray them as simple terrorists.
>>74928
Frantz Fanon studied the psychiatry of Algerian guerrillas. Some of them had outbursts of indiscriminate violent rage directed towards white French settlers or openly fantasized about it. Insurgents who’ve been humiliated and brutalized by the authorities can develop an extreme bloodlust where killing and injuring settlers indiscriminately becomes a cathartic outlet for trauma and pain. They actually experience a therapeutic relief and sense of calm when carrying out atrocities which pushes them to do it. Traumatized men are way more dangerous than even literal psychopaths.
>>74929
Slight correction, those tactics were developed by many Syrian rebel groups not just ISIS. Hamas compares notes with Hezbollah, which is why they’ve scaled up their capabilities since the 2009 war. But unlike Hezbollah, they have virtually nothing in the way of fire support outside of rockets (of varying quality, some so bad they can’t be considered weapons) and mortars, ranging from portables to large IRA style bunker busters. They have no armored vehicles. It’s cruelly asymmetric. Probably why they resort to things like live streaming executions as a means of getting back at an overwhelming enemy.
Israel is already committing large scale atrocities far beyond those of Hamas in scale. Destruction of mosques, churches, hospitals, residential areas, schools, even UN designated areas have been damaged. If they do opt for a ground invasion, all of that rubble is going to create a serious problem for them. It provides excellent defensive positions for urban guerrillas and rubble piles and ruins are far harder to clear than buildings.
Is physically eliminating Hamas in Gaza even possible? If the US hasn’t been able to eradicate al-Qaeda how is Israel going to eliminate Hamas? They’ll just go underground, rebuild and continue fighting.
Chani · 2023-10-09 22:00
There is no conceivable reality in which Israeli intelligence did not see this coming from a mile away and allowed it to happen for political gain. My impression is that WEF backed terrorism and its puppet political figures have coordinated with them to pivot away from using Ukraine as their primary financial money launderer to Qatari banking to stoke the fires of war. They really want WWIII, the goal of which is global totalitarianism and depopulation. It is not clear whether these madmen intend to use nuclear weapons. They play both sides. Israel heavy relies on electronic surveillance, tapping phone calls and texts, reading emails, collecting metadata. The problem with mass surveillance like this is you end up gathering more information than you can actually process. AI tools are being developed but their unreliable. Countries with electronic mass surveillance capabilities can end up with blinkers on, they think things only exist when their equipment can pick it up and if it can't then nothing is happening. A simple counter measure to mass surveillance is to avoid using the internet or carrying smartphones and or using motorcycle messengers.

Anyone who stands against Israel or Zionism (or even criticizes a jew) on any level has "lost the image war". They are literally Hitler, they are trying to start another holocaust. Any atrocities Israel commits will never be documented to any meaningful extent, and any atrocities Hamas perpetrates will be heavily documented as can be seen whenever Hamas launches rockets at Israel. The aftermath of the attack is plastered all over the media for at least the day, video footage of the rockets, the same is never done in favor of Palestine. Furthermore, the media will always project the acts committed by Hamas in a more negative light than those of Israel, when reporting upon Israel the vast majority of media outlets will not deploy the techniques they typically use in order to exploit the emotions of their viewers so as to eliminate their rational thought processing, making them far more suggestible
In terms of recent history, Israel is the aggressor. They came into Palestine, formed settlements and took the land of Palestinians. They have killed tens of thousands of Palestinians in just the last 20 years, the majority of them being civilians. These nations have been attacking each other ever since their conflict began which was when foreigners came into Palestine and set out to colonize the land. They're at war with one another. I don't believe that Hamas are all solely pure-hearted angels trying to liberate Palestine, some of them are just savages who want to kill people, some of them want to kill whatever Jews they can as retribution. These people have grown up being regularly exposed to death and destruction at the hands of Israel, hospitals, schools, and ambulances are attacked, civilian protestors are fired upon with live ammunition, of course they're going to despise Jews and their supporters. As I said these nations are at war with one another. Atrocities are commonplace in war. Nothing that has been seen here is unique or special in any way, they're acts of war.

They couldn't have a narrative to begin with. To understand the Israeli/Palestine conflict you have to understand Henry Kissinger, the man responsible for US expansion to the east.
Israel is a 51st US state, it's a colony through which US enforces influence over the Middle East. To prove that you can look at American conflicts in the Middle East and Israel for some reason being the only country flourishing in that area. Hence the reason why US has dumped infinite amount of money, weapons and resources into Israel, and hence the reason it kept doing that no matter the politicians of the Congress trying to cut on support. Usually politicians say they care about the America, so they want to keep American money to themselves, which is a deluded statement only made to play with clueless public. If you really care about America you dump resources into Israel, because that allows you to keep world's dominance, so that is exactly what America ends up doing in any circumstances.
There is no way America or American colonies will support Palestine, ever.

This is why woke liberal Palestinians are wrong. They think they can change public opinion in the West when Europeans and Americans will never support Palestinians. Arab Muslims are too foreign to ever be relatable to Westerners and Europe especially has a history of raping these places to build their first world economy. Americans and Germans especially have this fanatic obsession with Israel. They identify with Israelis. Israel represents the restoration of Western civilization's Biblical heritage. Israelis live a neoliberal, secular, first world lifestyles. If you show an American images of Shani Louk and one of an grieving Palestinian girl, they are going to be more sympathetic to the Israeli. Inevitably, geopolitics will cause Israel to either go the way of South Africa or simply turn Palestinians into the Native Americans on reservations.

Liberals aren't xenephilic their extremely xenophobic. While a right winger will judge a person for their skin color or religion and write them off as irredeemable, liberal racism is cultural. They believe everybody can be assimilated into a homogeneous culture: their own culture. They demand the dark skinned foreigner assimilate their cultural values and abandon his own in the process. Liberals define humanity around their own narrow lifestyle and so anyone who falls outside of that is to varying degrees subhuman and can be killed with impunity. They can tolerate superficial differences and celebrate them to virtue signal about how diverse they are, but they can't tolerate real cultural differences. Fanon considered liberal humanism to be the worst form of racism there is. It denies actual human differences and faults non-whites in third world countries for failing to be like middle class French people. Liberals then pretend to be anti-racist to police people's behavior and bully people weaker than themselves. They get a inverse narcissistic kick out of berating other white people and projecting their faults onto them. It's all an act.
You can see how this plays out with Palestinians. There's praise for Palestinian food, art, keffiyehs etc. but they won't tolerate Palestinian Islamic groups or Palestinians making serious political demands. There's an expectation that Palestinians should be peaceful, they should support women's rights (i.e. their women should look dress and behave like American ones) and support gay rights (i.e. have sex the way Americans do) and be secular and speak English. In other words, commit cultural suicide and become Americanized and liberalized. Palestinian political demands must be rejected until they prove their liberal enough. If they refuse we don't care if they die because nothing of value has been lost. The mainstream media ignores the dozens of Palestinians killed but hyper focuses on Israeli festival goers because these people are liberal, secular, sexually free and therefore qualify as full human beings in a way Palestinians don't.

Wouldn't they do that anyway because those companies are owned by people connected to a political establishment with a stake in supporting Israel? Maybe the stuff you describe is a factor, but seems like more of a pretense for propaganda than a real reason. When was the last time there was western liberal support for a group of people in a conflict mainly just for reasons of cultural hegemony?

>Liberals aren't xenephilic their extremely xenophobic. While a right winger will judge a person for their skin color or religion and write them off as irredeemable, liberal racism is cultural.
"xenophobe" refers specifically to an aversion to people of other nationalities. It has a precise meaning and I'd rather that not get muddied.
>They can tolerate superficial differences and celebrate them to virtue signal about how diverse they are, but they can't tolerate real cultural differences.
This is very true, though. Lots of white liberals are actually very uncomfortable around black people, for instance, and they're unwilling to acknowledge it, which makes it all that much worse.
Compare the racist townsfolk in "Blazing Saddles" to the governor and his cronies, who can't even say the word nigger. Who was more racist? Who was more responsible for the plight of the sheriff?
Support for Palestine in the US mainly comes from the far left. Mainstream liberals and lite "progressives" are much less likely to support Palestine.

So apparently the Houthis are threatening to hit Israel with ballistic missiles if the US intervenes. They have Soviet Frog-7s with a 65km range and have used them to hit Abu Dhabi in the past. They also have a few Iranian Scud derivatives which could be a more serious problem for Israel if fired in volleys. Hamas has already shown saturation can overcome Israel's air defenses and Scuds can carry huge HE warheads unlike Hamas rockets. A barrage of Scud missiles could be devastating if they are not intercepted.
>>74959
Probably, but why are people susceptible to that? People don't always accept the narratives fed to them by media infotainment but they do in this case because the victims are people they can relate to. When they see images of festival goers mowed down by Hamas they see themselves. When they see Palestinians being bombarded they see something foreign and otherworldly. Cultural hegemony definitely plays a role because Israel is let off the hook for so many things. This past year, settlers have ransacked entire towns, IDF operations killed a large number of Palestinians, and Muslim and Christian shrines were repeatedly raided, and Israel has annexed parts of foreign countries or threatened to do so. Yet little to no criticism was leveled at Israel. Americans and Germans have a strange cultural bias for Israel that goes beyond supporting a regional client state. Probably because of Jewish communities and their influence in politics.

What few people realize is that modern anti-immigrant and anti-Arab/Islam rhetoric actually originated with European liberals. The idea that a band of sell out liberals appease misbehaving minorities, that foreign cultures must be controlled, that "they" hate our values, are prone to rape etc. are all ideas that originated among prominent liberal intellectuals and even people like Zizek. Some of the biggest supporters of the 9/11 wars, Israel, and the idea of an immigrant threat were people like Tom Friedman, Farid Zakaria, Paul Berman, Michael Walzer, Bernard Haykal etc. all of them establishment liberals and regime mouthpieces. The very woke liberal New York Times put out an award winning podcast depicting immigrants as dangerous crypto-jihadists and Arabs as bloodthirsty killers and even after the whole thing was exposed as a hoax, the reporter was short listed for a Pulitzer and the podcast is still available. The very same New York Times then accuses Trump supporters of being dangerous racists and peddling anti-immigrant hate.

Literal Armageddon is reason enough to care. The orthodox Zionist faction in Israel are hell-bend on flushing all the Muslims out of the region altogether, and Gaza is just the first phase in this decades-long master plan. Once they are dealt with, they can focus on more pressing matters, like applying heavier measures against the West Bank, wherein resides the Temple Mount, a place of great religious significance to Jews, because the fabled Solomon's Temple used to reside there. The current problem standing in the way of these rebuilding efforts of the Temple are the Muslim population and their holy sites, which happen to be on top of the Temple. Once the Jews manage to annex the whole West Bank territory, you know the next thing they'll do is blow up these buildings, thereby turning ALL 2 billion Muslims against Israel. It would be quite fine if it were merely Israel which they'd wipe off of the face of Earth, but guess who else gets reeled into this conflict as well? Amerimutts will, of course, be the first in line by default, and whenever Amerimutts go blow up stuff in the Middle-East, the vast majority of EU nations will follow suit, since of course they must be involved as well because of "muh freedum and dumocracy!!!", at which point you'll wish you had paid a little bit more attention to a bunch of talking desert monkeys flinging soykaf at each other in their little sand pits.

>People don't always accept the narratives fed to them by media infotainment
Like when? The only examples I can think of are when there are direct or indirect interpersonal connections that preclude them from buying it, like knowing a dead soldier. In this case that effect works in favor of the media narrative; I have seen people relating about having known some of those dead on the Israeli side, and predictably not the inverse. But that is another reason to be skeptical of how crucial the cultural effect really is; you don't need superficial signals for empathy when you have actual social network connections driving consensus.
From what I have seen it seems to me that people generally will always accept those narratives regardless of how contrived or contradictory to their values or culture, so long as it does not go against people they are actually connected to in some tangible way. I think that if Israel was very socially isolated, and the hypothetical media chose for their own reasons to craft a narrative in support of the Palestinians instead, everyone would then buy it easily, regardless of their lifestyles being more foreign.

>Like when? The only examples I can think of are when there are direct or indirect interpersonal connections that preclude them from buying it, like knowing a dead soldier.
Well, yeah. A lot of people have those kinds of connections though, like probably almost everyone in this thread knows at least one Jewish person who is obviously going to have a much more personal opinion on the matter.
Something like 30% of the US population didn't get vaccinated for covid even with literally every news outlet constantly pushing for it, plus other propaganda and even many places making it mandatory. Many people actively seek out information that goes against popular or government-enforced consensus on certain topics.
>I have seen people relating about having known some of those dead on the Israeli side, and predictably not the inverse.
That's probably because if you're European or American, there are a lot more people in your country with direct relations to Israel than there are with direct relations to Palestine. I'm sure if you were from Syria it would be very different.

Egypt doesn't want 2 million Gazan refugees on its doorstep. The only crossing into Egypt proper has already been bombed by the IDF. Israel will make the strip uninhabitable and leave the population to die or force them into a death march across the Sinai. The US and EU have practically signed off on this already and the mainstream Western media are basically supporting it. Once their finished killing off Gaza, the IDF will attack Hezbollah anyway and do the same to South Lebanon. The land will be ethnically cleansed, they will build new Jewish settlements and cheap apartments, the White House will support annexation and the Arabs and Muslims will continue fighting from somewhere else. Israel will use this as a pretext to take more of Lebanon until they've taken all of it, then maybe expand into Syria or attack Jordan or wherever the front line against Islam is.

They didn't need to do soykaf to start the first two and they didn't need to do soykaf to get nuclear bombs made or to get everyone dependent on oil and plastics so that half the world becomes uninhabitable. No shady conspiracy is necessary to explain those historical events. There are reasons for elites to want people to die off, unironically, but some person like you always wants to write it off for some reason.
Consider a huge company like blackrock (huge is a huge understatement here) for example, a large part of their money is retirement saving they are managing for americans. If you think about it, for someone to receive a pension right now, someone needs to pay for the pension right now, for the system to remain at equilibrium. If more people are getting old than young people are going into the workforce (like what has been happening the past few decades, with declining birthrates below replacement level) and paying into the system then the burden of paying pensions becomes larger for those (fewer) people who pay the pensions. In such a case the money would have to come from those who manage the funds (until there would be none left), which would evaporate their money and in turn their entire influence. How do you think blackrock is going to respond, are they just going to take a big hit and keep on taking it? Or could it be that there is an incentive for them to prevent old people from receiving their pensions, as could be achieved by KILLING them.
Curiously, death rates have been quite high recently, some would say starting at around 2021. Yet whenever someone suggests an argument along the lines of this one, it's >schizoposting or whatever.

Looks like the third intifada is finally here. But maybe this was all planned? Hamas is the last of the angry youth movements that came out of the 90s and 2000s. Maybe this whole thing is just a clean up job? In the 90s, Algerian secret service infiltrated Islamic groups and manipulated them into attacking each other committing war crimes to delegitimize their cause and justify attacks on them. I wouldn't be surprised in Shin Bet has infiltrated Hamas.
It seems like the Hamas leadership in Damascus have no idea whats happening on the ground in Gaza or Palestine. They are completely confused. I bet Netanyahu helped orchestrate this so they can unify their country and start a war. But the militants they manipulating into doing all of this were more successful than they originally expected and everything spiraled out of control. They didn't think the people they tricked into doing this would actually kill a fuarrrk ton of their soldiers and invade their towns and cities.

I don't really take sides, since Hamas is just a petty terrorist group that will never win, and they are just getting used by Iran and Israel are muh joos who are eternally under attack but somehow have the most sophisticated weapons and intel systems in the world (and they lie about the nukes they stole from france).

NTL but no, IIRC there are distinctions drawn in their scripture between christians and heretics, where heretics must be slaughtered but christians get a pass, because of christians at least worshiping the same god. I'm sure there are interpretations of Islam that deny this but it's definitely not universal.
