Not liking music a lot

Roger Pollack · 2023-09-02 15:13
Is it normal to not like music a lot? A lot of people seem to listen to music all the time, but I'm not really sure what they get out of it. I personally like to listen to music on the occasion, but most of the time it's just meh. I've actually started to dislike having music in the background, I like to either focus on listening to it or just not have it playing. A lot of people these days just walk around with their headphones on all the time. I don't really get why there always has to be some background noise.

>but I'm not really sure what they get out of it. You can modulate the level of difficulty a task presents with additional distraction. Music is the number one choice for that. It helps getting your work done. That aside i find "i hate all music" a bit unbelievable given the wide range available.

Everyone's different. Don't believe that "music is the universal language" soykaf. Lots of people really love music, some people listen from time to time, and some people just can't stand it. Some people like gaming or programming, but others don't see a point in it. >most of the time it's just meh Maybe you haven't found the type of music you like? Music isn't just the sound it's the experience. A lot of people got into punk and hardcore because they loved the atmosphere of the shows and music was secondary to them. Maybe atomized individual listening via headphones isn't your thing? There's this idea that music is about your identity. It reveals who you are. So people assume you have to like music or there must be something you like. People use it as a litmus test for your personality, hobbies, interests. Music a social activity. But that doesn't mean you absolutely have to like it.

>>74353 I mostly listen to music to drown out my thoughts or create extreme contrast that I can fight against. Back in the day I used it for a means of brute forcing a given state, or as a sort of gateway to another world to explore, or the inner world, and so on. These days I can neither reach the depth nor breadth I used to, and it all seems kind of pointless. This modern idea that music is the natural state is completely backwards though. Silence and the sounds of the natural world, of reality, is the natural state. When you have music going all the tiome you're trying to facilitate the mind entering an artificial repalcement reality. Only extremely delusional and inverted people pretend otherwise, while they wander around with headphones in 24/7.

Background music is definitely a disturbance, it gets annoying. It doesn't mean anything, its lyrics are appalling, lewd, braggadocios, and/or filled with hatred, what's appealing to that? Cool? Wannabe? It's just dislikeable how people are manipulated into such things.

>>74397 The purpose is to program yopur unconscious and have a generally degrading influence. When I talk about how they CLAMP and vaxx, this is what I mean. It's a form of rape. Penetration fixation. Except it's highly diffuse and sublimated to a small extent. So instead of coercive penetration physically, they say "I will fuarrrk the whole world". When you go around and are subjected to their muzac, that's them poking and prodding and wearing you down to try to "get it in". They need to find a way to get it IN there, and then plant their seed in your unconscious. So you're basically a growth medium. They rape your mind until they can plant a seed and have you grow what they want. It's all hypersexual diffusion and sexual aggression, all of it is sexual. Every last piece of it. No different than the Egyptians thinking the Nile flooding every year was Enki ejaculating and fertilizing the land. Worshipping the rod and ring. Whatever. It's all about getting it in and planting the seed, in body and mind. A rape cultuire applied to the entire being.

I like to listen to music when I'm doing something repetitive, or that requires lots of thinking, and has no human-interaction component. Usually I go for tracks with few/no lyrics or lyrics in a foreign language so I don't get distracted by them. Often I get so absorbed in something that I don't even notice when the music stops. Music as an art form is best as a social experience, though. With dancing, ideally. >I don't really get why there always has to be some background noise. Some people really really hate being alone with their thoughts and actively try to avoid thinking. Also some people are terrified of being talked to by strangers and headphones are generally seen as a sign of "don't talk to me". The most annoying soykaf is the people who walk around with speakers blaring music, especially out in the woods. It's extremely rude. >>74397 >It doesn't mean anything, its lyrics are appalling, lewd, braggadocios, and/or filled with hatred, You think that all musical lyrics can be described as such?

>>74353 Usually when someone says they do not like music they really mean to say “I do not like the music I have been exposed to” and “I have not yet found music I like.” Although indifference is not uncommon either so I suppose it is not for everyone. What music have you listened to so far, I am sure there’s a niche genre you’ll love?

I'm not into music at all. But I like to play an instrument. I'm not really into TV and movies either

I don't especially like music, either. There's some songs and sorts which, in the right mood I enjoy a lot, and appreciate them when well used in films and games, but generally preffer silence or the ambient noise of the world to music. >>74400 >or that requires lots of thinking, I find that bizzare, music would not help me think. Singing or humming during tedious work though I can appreciate, although I think I enjoy my imagined orchestral music more than anything I can whistle haha.

>>74410 I think what happens is that (certain) music provides a sonic isolation from the world which can help get into a focused mindset. Like I said, once I'm in the zone I often don't even notice the music, so it's just for easing the transition.
