I have two recent examples. One was a friend who help me found a non profit in my home town where I grew up. We stayed in contact for about 5 years after I left, but as of late when I try to reach out he has been soykafty. He wanted to work on another project, but then has so much on his plate and family that it seems like pulling teeth.
The other was my exes mom who rented from me and threatened me. Suffice to say I am working on legal avenues to get her out of my life.
Putting aside people I already have and I don't need to chase, I am kinda tired of the bs. When I was in my early 20s I was a know it all and thought people were idiots. I realized later I needed to be more humble and you needed a team to build things. But after a few years of this most my major wins were just from me being me (and planning ahead for my future). Maybe my younger self was right, but I don't want to be a jackass either. Is merely chasing greatness enough to bring the right people to the table?

To add to this after realizing how Martin Shkreli and Sam Hyde act, it seems like you can build your own thing and people will come. Maybe there is more to it but Neither seem overly apologetic for who they are. But what do I know? I am some random autistic from the wired.

My take on this is, you can get away with not having personal connections with individuals willing to directly assist you, but you can't get away with not being in tune with your market. A lone genius squirreled away for years in a solitary workshop somewhere will lose to someone plugged into a productive community in some way, because the former won't be syncing their thoughts with the people they will need to ultimately recognize their "greatness". You want people at your table, learn to think like they do.

And certain things seem to work better for people who dislike people, like trading stocks. Consumer tech seems retarded for the most part but perhaps business tech and nascent fields can still be doable. I have a lot to think about.

A week ago the head of the lab where I worked in 2021 called me and offered me to come back for a better job but I was satisfied with my current one so I recommended my friend instead and she got accepted.
Real networking is much more like that in my experience.

If you want to be recognised as a great person you need to have a good PR skills or someone with them working with you. If not you can do without.
Leadership is basically just very good personnel management. Stalin is a good example for that.
Even Sam Hyde does, he just does it in an unorthodox way.
