Is treating life like a computer game what we call a "chad mindset"
Incognito · 2023-04-13 10:55
No, that doesn't mean you should commit mass shooting or do soykaf u usually do in GTA for no apparent reason. Dismissing morals, because life is infinitely more complicated than GTA and you won't come out of the water dry that easily unless your IQ is 160+
I mean, think about it, if you play any game you have to be concentrated and interrested enough as well as clearly realize and picture your goals in your head and quickly and effectively act upon them. That is how you play a game: with passion. Isn't this how chads usually are?
Chads treat other people like mindless NPC's who they can use to achieve their goals.
They are the opposite of emotional, sentimental.
They are confident and take life somewhat non-seriously.

I think that's referred to as the "ludic fallacy".
>The ludic fallacy, proposed by Nassim Nicholas Taleb in his book The Black Swan (2007), is "the misuse of games to model real-life situations".[1] Taleb explains the fallacy as "basing studies of chance on the narrow world of games and dice".

Chads are just attractive men. They don't have to gamify their life because they have natural advantages. The mindset you describe is more like that of a typical CEO or politician.

I agree with the first part of your post but don't see how it connects to the latter part. I think successful people decide they want to do things, and then do them. (Incidentally I don't play games like that. I sit around theorycrafting for half an hour after I decide what I want to do.)
I don't think either mindset has any inherent connection to how you regard either people.

OP trying to look at the world as pure game theory and objectifying other people to inanimate NPCs is an easy way to loose the game. Its more of an MMORPG if were being honest here. You can select a role and play on the good side, bad side, or play solo and grind for gold and XP.

the most "chad" mindset is this: "reality" is just what is happening, right now.
To develop this mindset, practice mindfulness meditation for 20 minutes per day
Notions of winner/loser, weak/strong, good/evil are all much less relevant to your daily life than you realize. Life is much easier than you think.
Just practice mindfulness meditation & you'll start to understand
Thank you

There was a study that found that video game play styles were an accurate expression of the things people wish they could do IRL. IIRC It defines player archetypes and describes their specific goals and intentions and how video games actually fill the need that they feel are missing in life.
I will post it later if I can find it on my HD.

Hey gang! Welcome back to the game. Today we're gonna be talking about how YOU can become a chad! That's right, this is the big one! Are you tired of losing in life? Do you wanna win and finally become attractive and get women and WIN? This post is for you!! Just read this ONE SIMPLE STEP and you will become a CHAD!!
The first step of becoming a Chad is treat people like NPCs!! Remember that life is just like a video game, right? And in video games, no one is as smart and cool as the main protagonist, right?? And everyone else are braindead robots programmed to follow the main protagonist's orders?? Well, we definitely need to act like protagonists then!! Be an asshole to everyone and treat people like objects!! This will make you happy and get you BIG wins like a Chad doez! Now you're acting like a real CHAD!! That's what WINNING looks like!
If you followed these steps, congratulations!!! You are no longer a loser Virgin and are now a cool Chad. You are now happy. Life has been granted a pointless, paper-thin meaning, and the human condition has been perpetuated. You have been starved then fulfilled by the very machine that feeds and corrals you. You are a perfect product of the capitalist marketplace.
Good job, kiddo.
Good job.
Now, you can close your eyes, and sleep well. I'm very, very proud of you.
I want to blow your brains out OP, I really fuarrrking do.
Other Lainons have brought decent arguments for gamifying real-life situations but OP is clearly on a different mindset here. Completely brainwashed by popular 'chad' and 'virgin' rhetoric. This sort of glitterboy should be forbidden from poisoning altchans with their mind numbing worldview. I honestly want to shoot people because of this soykaf.
Let me be clear: The Chad is a fuarrrking illusion. A farse. It's a glowie meme to keep you in line with political propaganda. First step is to stop caring about this chad soykaf and look inwards. Take a long break from the internet. Practice some meditation. Stop browsing hivemind broadcasts and mindlessly following ideologues without intense scrutiny. Block access to social media in your firewall if you need to. Then, after you've done all of that, come back here. Either that, or leave this place and never come back.

You know, thoughts similar to "our problems and lives are so insignificant compared to the size of the universe" are rather the thing I am over. It really doesn't matter how insignificant your problems are to others or to the universe as long as they matter to you.
"Brainwashed" — my answer to this is: in order for you to be "above" the rules you have to already be able to play by them... There is a substantial difference between "being so smart that you are just beyond humans" and simply being a loser who can't achieve anything and thus angry and resentful towards those rules, because of having no but negative experience with them.
Like it or not, you live in a capitalist world and you have to follow its rules in order for you to live happily (unless you want to suffer pissing against the wind, which I, personally, don't).

Its not a fallacy though. A model is a abstraction of the real thing and games can serve that purpose perfectly fine. You can learn basic economic practices like creating fake competition to prevent real competition in virtual game economies better than reading theoretical books that never go in detail about the shady things and preach ivory tower soykaf mostly.

The only thing you'll learn from video games is the rules of the video game. Buying an item from an NPC, crafting it into something else and selling it back is not economics.
MMOs are different though because you're playing against other people. When gangs buy up a single item to push the price up or invent their own ingame meta-currency to get around price controls that actually is a learning opportunity.

I used to develop and sell a market making bot for Eve Online to autistic German dudes. There are probably insights to be gained from MMO economies, but still a lot of differences; the large bid-ask spread on most commodities that my product took advantage of probably only existed because despite all the dedicated larping it's still just a videogame that few people treat like they are running a business. In the end how rich you are in the game doesn't matter; the salient resource is fun things to do, and people will just stop playing and abandon their hoard of e-wealth if they run out of that.
Frank Garza · 2023-04-19 13:15

yeah i had mmos in mind.
>>69079
The basic problem of working in a game is that working IRL and buying ingame is always more efficient so those people are out outside a few who enjoy minmaxing. Secondary even ingame there are competing options. In part on the reverse side of the RMT - you can sell carries often for more profit than any trading would give you. Especially if you are close to the top and there aren't many people like you. The spread exists because its actually not the best way to earn. If it was people would bot it away and market bots do exist too of course. None of that changes however the dynamics of a market with people interacting within it.
The benefit of "play" behavior is learning by doing in a save environment. That's why animals exhibit it. mmos offer that to kids for playing merchant.
Debbie Charteris · 2023-04-19 14:07
>>69079
>the salient resource is fun things to do
I don't know if fun is the reason people get addicted to these games. In runescape the most scarce resource was exp points because you have to earn them yourself, they can't be transferred between accounts. So anything you can sell that helps people level up is worth money.
>>69080
>The spread exists because its actually not the best way to earn
If the game is complex enough there isn't a "best way" to earn. All the different people with different interests and different goals will pull prices in different directions. And then game updates shake things up continually. They release a new dragon that's weak against arrows and suddenly everyone wants arrows.
>If it was people would bot it away and market bots do exist too of course.
That just creates a premium for complex tasks that are hard to automate. Bots are also on the demand side. In runescape nature runes were a rock solid stable commodity while other runes were literally worthless because it was so easy to write a bot to cast the same alchemy spell over and over again to level up magic. So grinding to level 92 runecrafting to get double nature runes was sort of a career path you could follow within the game if you could stick with it for a few hundred hours.
>The benefit of "play" behavior is learning by doing in a save environment.
That's true. I'll never forget the first day I tried to "merchant". I bought a thing, try to sell the thing. Some dude offered money and a weird skirt. I was already trying to sell this thing for 30 minutes which is like 30 years to a 10yo so I took it. And fuarrrk me I couldn't get rid of this stupid skirt. Nobody wanted it. Years later I realized if I had just moved to a city with higher level players, everyone would be wearing skirts because they are lighter but have the same defense stats as pants. Only noobs choose aesthetics over stats. Real gamers crossdress.

Lol, I so opften forget most people really are thisdumb. No, kiddo. The strategy is to either select the correct victims, coerce, degrade, or otherwise force them into a position where they can do nothing other than be exploited. Whether that's programming them from birth, blackmail, whatever. What do you mean once? Who's to sya they know they are exploited? What makes you think people are rational and will just separate?

Mostly what you say here is right including your conclusion, but I would quibble that dynamics of play are different than serious competition. A poker game with play money is not the same as one with real money even if it can help you learn poker to some extent. You can't confidently draw conclusions about one from the other because the mindset of participants and their incentives are fundamentally different.
I would say that areas like RMT where game economies are in fact part of the real money economy don't really count, because at that point it stops being purely a game for those people.
Demeere · 2023-04-19 18:08
>>69088
I would argue this is not entirely correct: poker with play money is a simulation of poker with real money. The methodology of play is the same. A chess game against your friend is not the same as a world chess championship. Only the stakes and the value differ.
Some people even turn videogames into a simulacra of their lives: their personas fursonas are more them then their real selves are to the world. It is not uncommon for people to have peer groups who know you only by a screen name while their real identities amount to nothing.
Avalon was an artistic representation of the blurred line between vidya and IRL, also a good movie with a bangin soundtrack.
Lady Jessica · 2023-04-19 19:52
>>69089
>The methodology of play is the same
The rules and interface are the same, the objective is the same, the factors that determine the outcome are different. Without real money, someone might play out a hand out of curiosity as to whether their opponent is bluffing. In an MMO, players might start a war that guarantees ruinous losses for themselves just because they are bored and want something to do and to see what happens. When people build virtual lives, they do so in pursuit of these differences, a low stakes environment where the purpose of the environment is to provide a set of experiences they would enjoy. This is worthwhile, but starkly contrasts with the real world which doesn't give a soykaf what you want and is trying to kill you. People will behave very differently given which they think they are acting in, and so the lessons for anticipating behavior are not interchangeable.

I could relate to this comment very much and would be happy to see the study. maybe it can help be understand it better.
I play exclusively PVP skill based games (LoL, Apex, Tekken, etc...) and I noticed that this competitiveness is also present in my day to day life (especially with my friends). If I hear that and friend learned something in a field that I'm interested in to the point that I feel threatened, I will find myself staying up day and night until I can surpass or at least match him. Maybe it is a good thing I don't have that many designer friends because it doesn't happen much in the last couple of months. I am also moving away from pvp skill based games to anything else because my brain starts to rot from trying to become the best (funny enough, I don't rage at video games)

>People will behave very differently given which they think they are acting in, and so the lessons for anticipating behavior are not interchangeable.
Narcissist, psychopaths, Antisocials, and sociopaths or the mentally will will not treat the world like mentally normal people. In fact "people who want to watch the world burn" or people who think the world is their sandbox will start conflicts out of boredom. Videogames may be a blessing in disguise because they prevent the people from living out their fantasies IRL when the IRL society isn't there to keep them in check.
>“The simplest Surrealist act consists of dashing down the street, pistol in hand, and firing blindly, as fast as you can pull the trigger, into the crowd. Anyone who, at least once in his life, has not dreamed of thus putting an end to the petty system of debasement and cretinization in effect has a well-defined place in that crowd with his belly at barrel-level.” - Breton
Modern life is a simulacra of living in nature, and society exists to simulate the conditions of natural existence. People simulate nature noises to go to sleep, admire nature from the back of a screen, Put nature into parks, aquariums, and zoos and practice fitness in gyms to simulate having to be fit for survival. Whats the difference between the usefulness of working out on a treadmill IRL and grinding tasks in a videogame (health benefits aside).
Most peoples lives are no more complex than a video game. Even religions like buddhism addresses the unreal vs the real and describes those living in an illusion of a confined mind, which is not much different from being trapped in a videogame.

To keep it within your original example: I dont care about 20 bucks, some people don't care about 20k -its as meaningless as monopoly money to them. In reverse others play everything like their live depends on it.
And at the extreme spectrum we have outliers IRL that exhibit behavior like those bug chasers and people trying to spread their diseases. Others seek the thrill of near dead experiences doing things like skydiving near mountain ridges til they hit a wall and get maimed into a gruesome dead. One way to view live is knowing you will die either way play the game for fun even if your activity shortens your playtime.

You can selectively outsource suffering. You can be friendly and philanthropic by allowing others to do all the unsavory work.
Outsourcing suffering is profitable if you treat people like NPCs. That mentality is the basis of a lot of motivational influencers like andrew tate. Because people measure success by the men/women you are with and the car you drive and the house you live in. If you have "friends" who treat people like NPCs and you profit from that relationship, you are no different.
Many educated/artistic people are unmotivated by money, being intrinsically motivated and so they may either be poor but social, or poor but antisocial and as a result still treat people like NPCs.
Sustainable productivity takes collaborative effort and can in fact work, but it requires everyone to treat everyone else as real human beans and not NPCs. The moment that starts to happen, that person should be removed or that person will corrupt the system.

As a rational person you will cooperate whenever it benefits you regardless of how little you think of them.
