Cyberpunk for Dumb People

VileCarrion · 2023-04-02 16:33
I’ve been lurking this site for a long time. I’ve come to really adore the anti corp lifestyle of cyberpunk and have explored the whole tech side of things like coding and such. Problem is I’m a dumb construction worker who moonlights as a musician. Is there a place for me in the cyberpunk world since I am admittedly low iq?
The Oracle · 2023-04-02 16:49
>>68528 >access to unfinished buildings and structures >access to low life hangouts as a musician Pretty sure you just need moar techwear

>>68528 There isn't really a cyberpunk lifestyle persey. It's not like being that alt girl where you dress a certain way and give yourself a label. Cyberpunk isn't a brand or aesthetic, you don't join or identify as, you DO cyberpunk. It's more about having a feel for the attitude not signing up for a trend or sticking to some personal checklist. You don't have to be a tech wizard super hacka or dress like your cosplaying as Neo. Nothing wrong with being a construction worker who moonlights as a musician. A double life where your something your not supposed to be? Doesn't that feel pretty cyber already? Think and feel for yourself and do something creative with what you have. That's my outlook anyway. >Is there a place for me in the cyberpunk world since I am admittedly low iq? Your already here aren't you? There's the answer to your question.

>>68528 You are not supposed to want to live in a cyberpunk world. You are supposed to want to escape it, just like everyone in NY talk about how they are going to leave the town one day and they never do it. The neon aestetic is good and if you just want to DIY some electronic then it's great and techshops will teach you how to do that, but a real cyberpunk world is not a place for people.
Joe Bloggs · 2023-04-04 17:55
>>68543 So I'll never be a cyberpunk? I really don't get the stuff at all and can't code >>68599 But everything else is unfulfilling. I can't align with your weird Ted K stuff.thats just not who I am. Why clown around pretending I can go live in the woods and start my own fire and build a cabin and go have some trad 1800s wifelife in a dress? I can't do that. I wouldn't even be happy
Technician · 2023-04-04 18:32
>>68528 What do you regard as the "cyberpunk world"? What do you think would be fulfilling to do/accomplish? There are plenty of things you can do that are "anti corp" at least even without tech competency.
Batou · 2023-04-11 18:52
It's sad that I'll never ever be a cool guy even in a society/timeline where someone like me could have been cool. In all timelines I'm just a loser

>>68528 >Problem is I’m a dumb construction worker who moonlights as a musician. Is there a place for me in the cyberpunk world Are you working this Saturday? The 15th of April is Steal Something From Work Day.

>>68855 >The 15th of April is Steal Something From Work Day. And I guess 16th of April is Get Fired And Leach From Taxpayers While Crying About Capitalism Day.
Yamaoto Toshi · 2023-04-13 09:02
>>68865 >Being caught stealing something from work How do you manage to even do that? You don't plan anything and just act on intuition?
Eldon Tyrell · 2023-04-13 11:28
>>68528 Lain It's not about being a tech ninja. Half of us can't code our way out of our desktop wallpapers. That's fine. It's about realizing that the once fictive tech dystopia is here and now and rejecting it's rat race to nowhere. If you abide by the principles that stand against corporatism and the propagandized quest for materialistic fulfillment, you're already pretty fuarrrking cyberpunk.
Bobby Newmark · 2023-04-13 14:07
>>68886 This is just bullshit people who like the 'aesthetic' tell themselves because they're talentless
Special Agent Bob · 2023-04-13 14:10
>>68882 What the fuarrrk would a construction worker possibly pocket? That's ignoring the fact that construction isnt even a corpo job most of the time and you're less sticking it to the man than you are fuarrrking over some guy who isn't even that far removed from you
Mario Rossi · 2023-04-13 14:40
>>68890 >wut wud a construcshun wurkor pocket uhh idk, tools, fuel, food, materials otherwise, random things left strewn about and easily taken into your own tools, long term borrowing of company vehicles for personal use......

Nguoi La · 2023-04-19 07:16
>>68890 It's a well know place for stealing things. I work in something similar and let me tell you, I never bought a tool and none of my coworkers either. Our bosses don't seem to mind all the things that disapear and they shouldn't. They don't steal screwdrivers. We once had a car that was bought to be used as a taxi. It's the personal car of one of the boss now. They send back all the unused items to our provider and tell him to send the money on their bank account. On top of that, there is also the outsiders. You never leave your tools or cooper wires unlocked at night. Electrical tools sell for hundreds on the internet and it's a target of choice for the local "disfranchised youth". They once stole a shipping container, we never figured how. They must have come with their own truck and lifting machine. Speaking of which, trucks get stolen too.

>>68528 My advice is to start with learning the history of cyberpunk. It's usually the best way. There's a 10 hour review of cyberpunk 2077 by action button and it goes really deep into what is cyberpunk, where iandt came from how to do it in some parts. I've watched about 40% the first time (there's a gimmick where you wach only the pats you want) and am waiting for it to fade from my memories a little to to rewatch the whole thing again. Steve can get a bit annoying after watching him talk for a few hours straight but I genuinely believe it's just part of his personality and not an attempt to offend https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJ30Ch0mLmzJH9qX4VsWZUC73YoQqHNkS Also there's a cyberpunk retrospective by a guy who usually does elder Scrolls content but I haven't got to it yet.

>>68528 The problem is how do we define cyberpunk? I mean, the word has different meanings to different people and cyberpunk imageboard subcultures could never agree on how to define it. In the tech world, people who call themselves ''cyberpunks'' used to be looked down upon as posers. The second issue is that online cyberpunk communities have largely died out while a corporate and academic ''cyberpunk'' (think cyberpunk2077 or arrogant theory hounds who fap to Deleuze) is booming. The latter reduced cyberpunk to a cheap genre window dressing typified by a bunch of narrow aesthetic conventions (neon dystopian cities etc.). You can't really be part of a cyberpunk scene because it doesn't exist anymore, maybe it never really did?
Turner · 2023-04-25 15:07
>>68528 You might find this site interesting. It has some info on cyberpunk subculture and history that could help you out. http://project.cyberpunk.ru/

>>68528 Piracy subreddits may be what you crave for >>68889 So let's become "talented" to get used as a cog in the machine, what a cope. I was already warned against miserable programmer salaries before going fro a training course, anyway. If we cannot learn piracy skills, there's not much we can do.

>>68604 >Ted I haven't read his manifesto yet, but I don't think he was advocating that everyone did that immediately, his 'message' from what I understand after reading stuff on the internet, is that you should rely as little on the system as possible. Grow your own food, don't rely too much on technology you can't build or repair yourself etc
The Oracle · 2023-06-23 14:46
>>71779 Apparently, Reddit users were upset about the API changes so their admin started a protest against their own API changes and for "porn for the blind." -- I'm not joking. >>71783 >I haven't read his manifesto yet, but I don't think he was advocating... You are interpreting what Ted "meant" based on what people who are not Ted are saying? I'm trying to find a way to not be rude and I can't, so I'll just ask you, for rhetorical reasons: You don't see the absurdity in this?
Molly Millions · 2023-06-26 15:36

>>68604 I don't see why you couldn't be a cyberpunk construction worker. The trouble is there's not a 10-step plan to follow to "be cyberpunk." Tell you what, here's a thought to get your imagination going: The world is increasingly controlled by the internet and governments and corporations. we're all watching AI get better and better at doing stuff. you're a guy who works in construction and likes to make music, how does living in this world feel from your perspective? what does it make you want to do? you might not immediately come up with an answer, but just daydream about it when you can. you'll probably come up with something better than "just steal stuff lul" like people ITT.
