The "putting in a ton of hours to advance in society" thread

Hououin Kyouma · 2023-03-27 21:48
Sup /hum/ I spent the last year working full time40h/week and taking night classes(20h/week). After a 2 month break of just taking 20 hours a week of classes, I'm back at it again with a new job doing the same thing, slightly higher up. 40h/week, 20h/week of night classes, again. Which is fine, I'll just push through until I can graduate from this degree and my life will be less grindey then. Anyone else burning up their life essence for potential advancement in society?

"advancement in society"? how do you define that? Sounds like some sick hierarchical rat-race propaganda

>>68314 Which it is >>68312 I'm currently attending my master degree (well, this stuff is not so useless at least) and work 20h a week at remote it job. Honestly, this is much better situation that your OP, but you can justify your position by telling us - why exactly do you need to burn yourself like this? In my case, when I worked 40h week in the office + master degree I realized that I won't last long in such tempo. Switching the job helped, but if you can't do that - justify your grind and decide when this should end. Otherwise you'll burn like crazy, that soykaf isn't jokes sadly

>>68316 Basically, I made a mistake. I decided to get an associates in a trade, so doing this kind of thing is actually pretty standard for some fuarrrking reason. About a month into my last job I realized this wasn't what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Luckily, I left myself a path back to a better degree, and it actually combos pretty well further down the line. Here's the thing though, you gotta hold a job through the whole last semester to graduate. I also wanted the experience on my resume because... idk, useful. So I ended up quitting my last one because my employer sucked and basically pushed me out. So now, I'm just doing this for long enough to graduate so I can fuarrrk off back to school with some money and some words on my piece of paper and go back to literally just being a normal student again.

OP here, gonna use a tripcode in case this thread doesn't die. I feel like this is a common enough thing where there might be some people that can relate on here.

Have been used to working, studying and playing in the orchestra since i finished highschool. Sometimes it becomes tiresome but i prefer this to doing little or nothing at all. Also helps that i love what i study and i have some friends at work so it's not that bad. This agitated lifestyle however has sort of pushed me to smoke weed and listen to music almost all the remaining time i have in my week, even if i don't really want to, as my mind feels it's the best rest/reward it can get. It won't last forever though so i don't think it's that bad
Double Timer · 2023-03-28 20:32
>>68324 I gotcha, I'm planning to start competing in powerlifting this year so I'm going hard on training and cooking and just life tasks in my remaining 2-3 hours per day. Still haven't tried weed cause it just doesn't sound like my kind of thing. I like stimulants.

I did similar at some point for years. It was all a waste. Suffering for uncertain future payoff is typically a bad move, you should relax and ensure you can enjoy the present first
Double Timer · 2023-03-29 05:01
>>68335 This is gonna sound like cope because it is, but It's not *entirely* uncertain. At least for right now I need to hold on to this job until the end of summer so I can graduate because of the way this program works. That'll let me transfer to an actual university, which THEN has an uncertain payoff.

Oh yeah, sleep debt is starting to kick in. At least it's almost the weekend.

Man am I fuarrrking tired of being a wagie. I've only been back a few weeks but I'm already back feeling sore and tired all the time again. There's gotta be a better way to do things than how I'm doing them.
Wintermute · 2023-04-13 17:48
I can't even get a job. Nobody will hire me. I am extremely underdeveloped in every area a human can be. I don't know what I'm supposed to do. Nothing appeals to me.
Morpheus · 2023-04-13 19:59
>>68312 quit my job and moved in with my family. figuring out a business that will earn my life back while making the world a better place and studying for certs anyway in case it all falls apart
Double Timer · 2023-04-14 23:01
>>68896 If nothing else, get a cert for something that doesn't break your body, like IT or something. Get some above average money and idk find a hobby or smth.
H.R. Giger · 2023-04-14 23:27
>>68935 Is it even possible for a 37 year old hermit that suffers from mental illnesses to get a cert than be granted entry to a field just like that? I have zero work experience, life experiences, and no skills whatsoever. I'm so underdeveloped as a person it's pathetic.
Double Timer · 2023-04-15 10:23
>>68936 Yeah. There was a dude in his 50s who got an entry level position where I'm working at now. It's really not that hard to get a cert and get a job. Especially if it's something like IT where you're p much expected to be an autist anyway. It's better than just sitting around collecting dust your whole life, at least. Just saying "I'm underdeveloped" and making no effort to develop yourself is a waste of your life.
John Rain · 2023-04-15 17:35
>>68935 No offense but I'd rather die than get an IT cert. >get above average money Don't give a fuarrrk about this
Double Timer · 2023-04-15 21:06
>>68961 Ay fair enough, I don't wanna do that soykaf either lmao. I just know it's easy work anyone can do that makes decent cash.
XERXES · 2023-04-16 16:10
>>68966 I'm too dumb for IT work
Double Timer · 2023-04-16 16:26
>>68990 I mean, there's other ones. That's just an example.
