The world is your oyster. Growing up inundated with feel-good inspirational TV & film where you can achieve anything you want and be all you can be if all you do is choose the right path. Aim for the high ground and you'll be happy successful and in love. Was it all a sham? Is the only value in doing work making money? Helping others through work seems objectively useless. If I feel good that other people benefit from my toil then I may as well forgo that element of feelgood selfishness and skip right to doing whatever makes me happy. But then I'll be poor and miserable. So it's my fate to have to engage in labour and feel happy about that, knowing that my life's decisions led me to this point and that other decisions weren't taken. So I am indeed the master of my destiny, however crappy it is. Is that the secret - being content with who I am? Not resenting myself for who I'm not? Maybe it really is possible to be whatever I want to be, just like the Disney movies told me. But that feels too corny. Maybe I should accept it as truth though. However much toil it takes to get what I want. So what do I want: what's a good desire to have? Money is frequently touted as materialistic and a detriment to one's spiritual endeavours. So is it greedy to want to live pleasurably and comfortably - but that discomfort exists in the not succeeding and in the toil, so it seems the only reasonable outcome. And once I've got what I want, what then? A wife and children? Oh how quaint. Perhaps I'm just cynical that I'll ever find a woman who won't be a materialist and wants to go on a journey like mine. For now, stuck in my little room, I can barely imagine what comes after what comes next. Maybe that's enticing after all, a real life mystery. That starts with years of tiresome grueling toil with failures guaranteed and hopelessness all but certain. Why must life be so droll.

>>67308 >spoilered image 100% sfw bruh, please, just post the image why the fuarrrk are you spoilering it I hate you. other than that: why are you so sure that what you want, will give you pleasure and comfort ?

>>67310 eh I didn't mark it as spoiler, I posted using KurobaEx and I don't even think there's an option to post spoilers hm that's an interesting observation, that potentially whatever happens I'd end up miserable. I suppose I'd thought that since being unfulfilled leads me to believe there's a lacking so there should be a consequential state of happiness that I "should" strive for, since remaining complacent is the state of lacking. maybe that relies on a belief of happiness being the best state, which for me derives from my religion: that suffering is karmic and elimination of karma results in bliss and is my dharma, so I simply must be required through fate and personal decisions to not be distressed (or at least living in a state more enjoyable than now).

>>67338 >didn't mark as spoiler fascinating. Maybe those kurboax people are evil and not you. I shall consider this possiblity. >hm that's an interesting observation, that potentially whatever happens I'd end up miserable. This isn't neccisarily implied by my suggestion, just that what you want will not make you happy. Perhaps something else which you do not want (do not think you want?) could. Perhaps even something you don't want. Classic example of dog chasing truck. What does he do when he gets it ? Does he acheive happiness ? Probably not. Feminism has been getting what it wants for over a hundred years or so, but women and feminists don't seem to be becomming happier. They are perhaps becomming more miserable, and they still have wants, they just change with time. Conflation of secured wants with the acheivement of happiness is a mistake. >we haz karma 'n SHEET is it possible under this system that you're just doomed to this life of inescapeable misery due to historic actions of your soul ? maybe the happiness you seek is simply long defered, perhaps on the order of another century or two. Perhaps more ? Seems like you should just assume that if you do good your god will (eventually) reward you so you don't need to focus on the specifics just be a good little boy and wait, if I understand this system correctly (I don't condone it in either case karma is dumb).

>>67356 >I shall consider this possibility. I just checked and all my image posts on lain are spoilered. What's weird is they don't display as spoilered on KurobaEx. I'll have to use another app when posting images here. >This isn't neccisarily implied by my suggestion, just that what you want will not make you happy. Perhaps something else which you do not want (do not think you want?) could. Perhaps even something you don't want. In the absence of knowing what definitely will cause happiness all I can do is chase my idea of what will. >they still have wants, they just change with time. Falling in love with wanting something is definitely a cause of stagnation, and an easy way to feel a victim of circumstance. The only way out of that is to choose success, although I think striving for success is a form of wanting. Being stationary though is highly depressing, so much so the only volition is to act with resolve. >is it possible under this system that you're just doomed to this life of inescapeable misery due to historic actions of your soul ? It's certainly possible. >if you do good your god will (eventually) reward you so you don't need to focus on the specifics just be a good little boy and wait, if I understand this system correctly "Good" is subjective, in as much as doing karma is not the best way to live since that only leads to results intended and unintended, causing bondage to materialism and their associated suffering. Doing what I desire with disregard to its consequence is the proper way to act (whilst in accord with the rules of faith). Karma isn't awarded from God; it's received from my own actions, so behaving with untoward desires merely inflicts upon me my own suffering. So I don't act with hostility or malice or for goodness, as all produce suffering of karma and needlessly interfere with the karma of others whilst wasting my time. The only choice is what to choose for my own happiness: so what would I enjoy? Love is seemingly the prime factor, even if it at the moment I feel disposed towards enjoyment through hallucinogenics. And I'm constantly aware that comfort is a real thing that requires money, lest I spend decades living in a forest trying to 'find myself' (which is completely off the table). Perhaps I'm just trying to psych myself up into feeling like I should be happy doing things for good money, which would enable me to live freely and accomplish that which I don't know what I want. It feels rotten the ways of this planet, and I suppose that the fact that I'm on this planet at this period of time seems to indicate that I must deal with the ways of this world, and make with it what I am able to.

>>67356 >(I don't condone it in either case karma is dumb). What, then, is the cause of your happiness or unhappiness? Not that x y or z happened, but the reason why things happen to you in the first place? Are you of the belief that luck creates your circumstances (whereas I would counter that luck is nonexistent and is actually a manifestation of karma) and that your actions are ultimately irrelevant - going into a void that ends when your life ends? Or perhaps you think that doing good is merely for temporary warm feelings, and is ultimately futile wherein a God rewards you with heaven for your sincerity in faith. (But that's not really the focus of my discussion).

>>67374 >all my image posts on lain are spoilered fascinating. This may answer a long standing confusion I had. mysteriously spoilered images, totally innocuous. I'll mention your bug next time I see it. >all I can do is chase my idea of what will fair, but to be cautious in forming those ideas, cautious in placing too much stake in any one idea that may be wrong. >only way out of that is to choose success, maybe only way out is just to be happy ? ahaha. Maybe the way out is to look to older examples of people who've acheived happiness, and emulate them if they seem analogous. IDK. >Karma isn't awarded from God; it's received from my own actions treats arent awarded from my Master, says the dog, but rather by my performing Good Works. same diff ? Sorry I don't entierly follow this paragraph. >comfort is a real thing that requires money sure, but it seems that it can be achieved with remarkably little, at least for the right person. And I don't mean living in the forest, but circumstances still have to be right, and maybe you're not the right person. >>67375 I find the concept of a system that will tell me I am being punished or rewarded for my own ancient actions overwhich I have no control and am fully unaware somewhat amusing. It is a strange and ineffective system of justice and I preffer punishments to be done faster and more concretely. I don't remember 'past lives', why should I care about my own 'future lives'? I'm not an indian, maybe it would make sense if I were. So what causes my happiness ? I tend to think its my own attitudes which are largely under my control. What causes my circumstances ? Well, circumstances are complex, part of it is fate, but much of it is my own doing. Perhaps I could have only been born on Earth plus or minus a week or two of when I was, but most of what comes after that is the consequence of the actions of myself and my parents, our neighbours, family, etcetera. If a meteor comes streaking out of the sky to kill me right after I post this I'd laugh and assume that someone in power has something against me. ahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAA
