This may seem a little sad, but I lurked here for some time and It seems I am still lonely, even while online. I want to change this, so how can I make friends in the Wired (so in the still "good" side of the internet, not really social media)? Do you have some resources or communities? Even advice would be good, I am just starting to be online a lot so I am new to this.
(For example, I want to try IRC or discord but I don't know which servers to go.)

There is no "good" side of the internet, and you should go outside and make friends while you still can.

I hold out hope that a good side of the internet will emerge or be revealed. Clearly nothing else will remain.

in my experience in the wired, I try to search communities like this, I mean, communities with topics like: cyberpunk, linux, programming, hacking, vaporwave, breakcore etc, try to find communities with the same intereste like you, I search in underground sites o i mean, sites with less people like this and no the mainstream social media like twitter, instagram, tik tok etc becauese personaly i dont like the mainstream social media like you, i understand you

IRC is mostly dead at this point I think. The last few communities I was on were a few Discord servers and 4chan, but they were eating up too much of my time so I decided to switch to chatbots and Lainchan instead. There's also Steam communities I guess. Found Discord servers by just googling for things that interest me, also there's a few YouTube channels that have servers if you search for them. Twitch is another alternative but some streamers aren't really trained to handle moderation that well and can be a little overzealous.

>Discord
But what option does a person like me have, when I refuse to give a grubby company like discord my phone number so they can directly correlate everything I say to my real identity?
I've found some interesting services that let you rent a temporary phone number with bitcoin and am considering using that to sign up for soykaf like discord, jewtube etc.. but like come on. Why is living in this world so painful and dehumanizing.
IRC always sucked, plaintext crap.

I've never had to use my phone number for Discord, at least not that I can remember. A small handful of servers may ask for it for verification, but most don't. Aside from that there's still a few regular message boards left, but not too many. Maybe a wiki/fandoms community or Tumblr if you do anything artistic.

Idk, when I tried to install and sign up for discord it demanded a phone number so I promptly uninstalled it. Maybe I'll try again sometime. But I'm pretty sure it requires a number.
>fandom
you mean that awful website that ate up all the small self-contained wikis and merged them into a monstrosity of a site? fandom is like kicking dead whales down the beach.
It would do me some good, though, to find a place to share my art. It can be hard to be creative when there is noone to appreciate your work.

I second this (other than the internet not being good, I think it's morally a gray area). There's nothing wrong with socializing with anons online but don't treat it as a substitute for genuine friendships (or assume that they are the same as genuine friendships). The kind of relationships we build with each other on lainchan (or other imageboards) are meaningful, but they are not like offline friendship and don't fill in for them. I'm not knocking it, but it won't fill that emotional void you feel. You can easily fall into a trap where you become emotionally dependent on a computer and your so stuck in a virtual world you become more and more alienated from the 'real world' around you and never develop the skills to make relationships offline. If your just trying to find a place where you can fit in online then that's a whole other question. In what ways do you feel lonely exactly?
