Am I a psychopath / sociopath?
Tyrell Wellick · 2022-12-03 11:09
So I've frequently somewhat empathised and identified with lain and her experiences with different personalities for different groups, feeling invisible irl and other things, but I wonder am I taking things too far after browsing 4chan and other image boards for nearly a decade?
I can't imagine myself in a truly normal life, I only maintain a facade of normalcy on the outside. I think I've lost the ability to have faith in anything.
I've just begun thinking about this recently. Also, did I do anything wrong by jokingly mentioning that I know the dude who drew a vtubers feet for her livestream on /vt/? It didn't strike me as anything serious at the time but my group freaked out it and thought it was doxxing? They didn't find out, but it did leave me question if maintaining too many facades has caused them to leak slightly into each other. Does this kind of thinking make me a psychopath or sociopath?

>with different personalities for different groups
This is 100% normal.
>feeling invisible irl
Happens to most people at times. May happen to you more often depending on your personality and social groups.
>am I taking things too far after browsing 4chan and other image boards for nearly a decade?
What have you been doing that feels like it's too far, besides the vtuber thing?

What did you do? It sounds like you just said "I know who did that" which doesn't sound like doxing but maybe I am misunderstanding
>I can't imagine myself in a truly normal life, I only maintain a facade of normalcy on the outside.
Ironically, also normal.
>I think I've lost the ability to have faith in anything.
Examples?

It wasn't doxxing but my club still freaked out, its even funnier since it basically means that dude regularly browsed /vt/ and found my thread. I haven't been outed yet.

Oh, I see. You made a post on /vt/ where you said you know the guy who drew some feet pics, and your friend group (which includes that guy?) interpreted it as a random person threatening to reveal his name, not just as a random person claiming to know him.
They might just be worried that someone malicious has his dox. Maybe it would calm them, or at least him, if you told him it was you who made the thread and that you have no intention of doxing him and the thread was only meant to be funny.

I dunno their reaction seems kinda overblown, normal people probably wouldn't tolerate my actually chuddy nature of browsing imageboards

What makes you think you're a psychopath? Nothing in your post screams psychopathy to me.

That's called pessimism. Or perhaps depression (depending on if you also have actual depressive symptoms).
>Also, did I do anything wrong by jokingly mentioning that I know the dude who drew a vtubers feet for her livestream on /vt/?
My advice is that you should always hide your "power level" in public. Avoid talking about anime or other weeb stuff, unless you know that the other person is also a weeaboo.
>my group freaked out it and thought it was doxxing?
Then they don't have a clue what doxxing means. Are you sure they aren't some oversensitive special snowflakes who use Twatter a bit too much?
>different personalities for different groups,
>They didn't find out, but it did leave me question if maintaining too many facades has caused them to leak slightly into each other.
>Does this kind of thinking make me a psychopath or sociopath?
No. A psychopath or a sociopath would use it to take advantage of people or they would abuse other people. And it's not abnormal to show only different sides of your personality to different groups. In fact, most people do that to an extend (think about all those people who post on Twatter or Instagram, for example. On the surface, most of them live a perfect life.).
Also, a psychopath won't ever feel any remorse.

i wanted to post something like this til i discovered this.
i think i am a psychopath i don't care about people even then they come to me to talk about deep ans personal stuff like the death of a loved one. i just zone out and listen but i don't empathize with they're struggles. i never ever felt a connection with people as much as i try

I can see how this can be a problem if your the type that has multiple distinct online avatars and personas that aren't openly connected to each other. I had a habit of pretending to be an entirely different person (name and personality and all) to separate groups of people online and irl. Not only is the constant acting tiring because you have to keep track of the web of lies you've spun which becomes especially difficult if they stumble across evidence your actually a different person, but it limits your ability to form genuine and authentic relationships with others due to a chronic lack of trust. You either have to admit your real identity or keep up the facade, either way you end up breaking losing their trust. Does all this make you a psychopath? No, although others might suspect that. I used to wonder if I was a psycho also, but I've realized I did it because I'm painfully shy and withdrawn, it was simply easier to create a character and act like someone else rather than be myself. It's really a convoluted way of building walls between yourself and others which, if you think about it, isn't psychopathic behavior at all because the only one your harming is yourself.

I'm afraid of doing otherwise, since when I was younger it basically felt like I was putting myself in the firing line in terms of humiliation etc just to be included for social stuff etc, which probably caused me to further worsen my development of dehumanizing myself and splitting up my different personalities for differing scenarios etc.

Lain is a Japanese product with mass appeal. It's creators are well known and respected. The people who created it are normal people with nothing special about them. Lain is a Japanese cartoon from the 90s. Created about the 60s concept of the Internet. Mingled with 60s and 70s French philosophy, and 60s American drug culture. Any semblance you believe you bear to the title character or any other character betrays nothing other than you are slightly more suggestible and have lower self esteem than the average person. Any time you spend thinking about Lain as something more than a product would be better spent learning to code, investing your money, buying a starter home, raising a family.

can anyone help me? I feel like I have bpd or something. I have watched lain everyday for the last year and a half. I feel like a psychosexual anti personnel disorder. I feel like I'm insane. I don't know what to do. im 18 years old and my life is going nowhere. i wish I could go insane. like the cyberpunk2077 anime. but the real world just seems so more limited and distopian.

There are distinct diagnostic criteria, but you would have had symptoms from a young age
>>65891
>crazzy boi
nobody can help you unless you help yourself... The daily lain watching thing sounds pretty darn autistic (unironic) to be honest, but I'm no doctor. Males don't fully develop until around 25, so your probably just in a weird adolescent/adult phase, dare I say angsty teen?
You just don't have a good goal in life. You definately haven't provided enough info to make a determination about your mental state, and diagnostic checklists just look at your current symptoms or responses to situations and play mental illness bingo.
Maybe stop comparing your life in terms of fictitious anime, since that can become pretty delusional and basically means you are looking for some kind of escapism (from your current state). There is nothing wrong with that, but the "touch grass" meme exists for that reason.
You really should break up the routine, because the only other other way you can continue to live is going to be in a socially influenced drug induced haze. By breaking the routine yourself and exercising (can just be walks after a meal) without any kind of electronic stimuli, you can start to clear your head of all the noise. Too bad mental health in schools is just touchy feely bee yourself and seek help bullshit instead of teaching you to solve problems and learn to manage your stress with healthy habits.
I think you're alright kid, just maybe lay off the lain once and a while, too much of something is never a good thing. Weltschmerz is real, but it's normal. Hate to break it to you, but you are not a psycho.

So sick of this advice. When did Chans turn into mindless alpha male parrots

It isn't mindless alpha male advice, there is literally a correlation between physical and mental health. Nobody says you have to look like a greek statue, but you shouldn't have problems moving furniture or be out of breath walking into the kitchen.

I did the same sports when I was your age, you're just young and inexperienced in the world+hormones. The world isn't actually all that limited and dystopian, but you perception needs time to develop, like a fine wine.
if i could inquire about your post-highschool goals, I might be able to cater advice better. I might make a burner email if you want to talk more.
Sociopathy can develop from the woes of the world, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing as long as you don't turn it into extremism (joining a terror organization or extremist group) because extremists will use you as a pawn.
