Is cutting hair for a girl/woman really so traumatic?

yes. this is why most women I've asked wear their hair long, its very unpleasant to cut it. Professional female hair salons usually focus on distracting their attention while the deed is done to make it more bearable. Ive seen some speculation this may have been the origin of males wearing shorter hair, as a sign of bravery. I'm not certain, but its a possibility for sure.

Why do they make such a big deal out of hair becoming shorter? It's not a toe, you know, it grows out pretty quickly and easily

At least in ancient Ireland, long hair was considered a sign of wealth, status, and wisdom. Only men of lower classes cut their hair, for utilitarian purposes.

I told my gf i'd be okay with a tomboy, and as a result she cut her hair and is wearing it short for some years now. She looks like a boy, but jokes on you, im into that soykaf.
