What differentiates asceticism from poverty? How can a man that does not have the means to receive proper bodily needs enlighten himself?
Eldon Tyrell · 2022-09-14 10:32
The ascetic is voluntary, and refuses to be dependant on the normalcattle. I guess it's an extreme form of epicureanism, where you forcefully stunt wordly desires to focus on the mind; probably like some forms of buddhism, too.
But yeah, it's retarded, can't have a healty mind in an unhealthy body. The correct (and hard) thing to do is to not become attached to comfort so much that you take it for granted and enter the usual rat race of wanting always more; reason about it the same as money or space: it becomes important only when you lack of it.

Or more correctly, view like the stoics do: only virtue (wisdom, strength, justice and temperance) is good and everything else is but a mean toward/away from said virtue.

How do you define "poverty" and how do you define "roper bodily needs"? How do you define "enlightenment"?
Blessed picture is blessed.

Meaning. Reality has no meaning, only do humans imbue specific experiences with meaning, and transcendent meaning is lacking from the mundane experience of poverty.

I really hate how buddhists and orientophiles have stolen this word. It is wonderfully sinister branding. I guess better them then the illuminati. Not by that much though imho.

a person in poverty has needs which are unmet. An ascetic gives up things which he doesn't need but might want. An insane person might give up things which he does need, but this is not ascetism imo.
