Protests

Would anyone happen to have advice/resources for protests? For example in the Hong Kong protests, what strategies did they use and what would you have done personally? Not asking anything illegal but hypothetically let's say we happened to live under some authoritarian state who was using violence against you. ...Asking for a friend

Focus on pure unadulturated defense against police tactics; offense is pretty pointless. if you have the people at the perimeter of the protest equipped with bigass shields and thick, cushioned pants, along with gas masks, police will have a lot of trouble doing jack soykaf to disperse the protest.
look up a recipe for anti-pepper spray spray, i believe it's just a dilution of milk in water, put in a spray bottle.
shields and cushioned pants work against rubber bullets and batons; masks are for tear gas and pepper spray.
if you live somewhere where police will use real bullets, i have no real advice lol. never had to deal with something that extreme

Wear a mask and cover your eyes. Try to have similar clothes.
H.R. Giger · 2022-07-19 17:07
If the media or institutions at large generally support it, you do not need to be there. If you need a phone, buy a burner phone near the protest and cover your face making sure your eyes and ears are obscured. Find a Mint Mobile or similar SIM card that offers a month free trial and are able to use false information for registration. Bring water bottles, if tear gas is likely and you're willing and able to be quick, you can nullify them by cooling them immediately with water and something to contain it like a traffic cone.

In any given protest/riot the cops are going to be outnumbered by the protesting crowd. What they have to their advantage is coordination and concentrated force. But, being outnumbered, It is always their priority to prevent the escalation of protest into a riot because they are unequipped to deal with a crowd mobalised toward a single goal. All their tactics surround de-escalation, from using mounted officers and tear gas to break up large concentrations of people, to identifying and dragging away 'agitators' (people who look like/are trying to clash with police, or have brought gas masks and other tools).
The real movers-and-shakers of riots are groups who can match the coordination of the police while also being able to utalise the weight of the crowd. Think of black bloc antifa in america or the ultra-nationalist paramilitary groups in euromaidan.

Yellow vest here.
Fisrt, prep.
Do NOT take your phone. Only a burner is acceptable.
>But I don't plan on doing anything illegal
The cops do. The government told them to, and they will cover them. The law don't apply to a lot of people.
Do NOT use a transport cards linked to your name. Single use tickets is the only way to go, this is why they are removing them from Paris now.
What you need are a good stock of kleenex, eyedrops and a mix of antiacid and water. For instance, some aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide (Maalox is a good brand for that), mix it with water, 50/50 and get that in a spray.
The cops (the French ones at least) will detain you outside until at least 22h. It's illegal but the justice don't apply to what the state do to you.
Get enough water and food.
They may decide to use the water truck on you, keep your tickets and everything that can't survive water and keep them in hermetic congelation bags with a zipper.
Swimming pool glasses are a plus, but people got arrested and charged with possession of a de facto weapon for having that, don't care and hide it well so a frisk won't find it. Get one that also cover the border of the eyes. A transparent one won't get you charged of the crime of hiding your face (that was before covid).
If you have your human rights, take a gun with you. I live in a progressive utopia and the full power of the state wil fall on me if I take my gun outside, but if you still have rights, use them.
Now, I want you re remember this: whatever happen stay cold blooded and keep your situational awareness. Try to understand what the cops are doing.
Tank · 2022-07-20 11:19

Now, this is what the cops will do to you in France.
They will "nasse" you, meaning forming a line around you to keep you prisoner.
It never end well. They will make charges, they will gas, they will hit, they will shoot.
Communicate with the others, loot at a map, look for the cops who will close the nasse.
Gas attack.
It's called tear gas but it's droplet in the air. You have nothing to be afraid of, keep it cool and breath manually.
I have been in the cloud countless times and you can do too. The most important thing to do is to know where the wind blow.
A kleenex will catch the droplet long enough for the gas to disperses.
Keep your eyes almost closed and you will see what happen without being hurt. With the glasses, I actually enjoyed being in there.
There is one thing the cops hate more than anything, it's when you throw the pellets back at them. Their masques are hard to breath in and ofer only a partial protection.
If you want to do this, I want you to remember those words: many people have lost their hand because they mistook a TNT grenade for a gas pellet.
A pellet is a 2/3 cm tall cylinder and split fire. If it don't, stay clear.
It's hard to take in your hand and to throw manually, I have tried with various sorts of gloves. Use your feet.
If you are into that CONTROL YOUR BREATH.
Now, what if you or a guy is contaminated. The plan B is to take some fresh air, it hurt only for 10 minutes and you won't die.
The plan A is to clean the eyes with the saline solution and a kleenex, not the one you breathed with obviously.
The maalox solution does not goes in the eyes, it deactivate the irritant agent and is great for the mouth and the skin.
Ha yes: don't take clothes made of polyester, it make the gas worse for the skin.
Hacker · 2022-07-20 11:35
They can also charge. Obviously,if you don't have 100 friends who want to make it personal, don't stay. They beat the slow one but it's not too bad, it's just to make them move.
Charges are often prepared by gas attacks.
Stay mobile, disperse in small groups, reform in their back. Ho god they hate that.
Use the parallel streets, remove your signs (a yellow vest in my case) to move more easily. I had my vest above my backpack because I had to remove it and get it back several time every time.
Charges are not the big deal except in winter. Running with all their stuff and a mask, under the heat hurt them. Poor cops. After 3 or 4 charges they often decide they had enough.
Reform. Hit in the water for them.
The flashball. Haa, that's my favorite. I got hit once, it don't hurt that much. It's better than falling from a bike but I got hit in the knee. I used to be an adventurer like you. Took me an hour to be able to run again. A guy had kept fighting despite flashball 4 hits.
It is bad only when they hit the face, which they often do in France since they reveived the direct order to make us pay and know they are covered. Eyes got lost, faces goes missing. At this point I decided I didn't care and I was just not going to tolerate this soykaf, but you have to make your own choices.
Rick Deckard · 2022-07-20 11:47
Now a word about the water canon.
It make you wet. If it is cold, weak clothes made of wool.
It push you. Don't play the big man, it's stronger than you.
Show your profile to the jet so it would not give you all it's energy, get a good posture with a foot on front and on behind you.
There is an additive in the water, I believe it's for when they use it on a fire. It feel dirty but that's all. It go away with a shower.
Obviously, the glasses are a must have there. Shields are, very obviously an horrible idea.
Yes I hopped in when I saw one just to piss the cops and to know how it feel. It reminded me of the parc Asterix.
The truck don't have too much water and run out of it if they use it too much. It take forever to refill.
Finally, what hurt more: the spray.
I had to go to the second line after I was hit without my glasses. This soykaf hurt, but protect your eyes and your sensitive skin, or at least turn your head the other way when it's pointed at you and you are safe.
It had a cop to get the spray back in his pocket when he say I had the glasses.
Remember if you are hit: mallox everywhere but in the eyes, saline in the eyes and fresh air. Fresh air alone will do but it take forever and it is not pleasant.

Also try to dress up in similar clothes and don't dress in unique looking clothes that can be used to identify you. Don't connect to free wifi that just so happens to be available near the protest (it could be fake wifi that's used for collecting info on protestors).

This, even if you just want to be here. The cops have an unit whose job is to ID who do illegal stuff. It's harder to do when everyone have generic black clothes.

Milk have almost no effect on the CS gas. Lemon juice work but some people told me it create a gas that make you stupid. I don't know I have always been stupid.
>>61036
>It is always their priority to prevent the escalation
In France, we have the CRS, the professional riot control unit. They are violent but professional and initiate the violence only when told to by their superiors.
Regular cops and military police (gendarmerie) don't like to be there and are generally reluctant to obey the orders they are given but they do.
We also have units of thug cops. It's made of people who have a middle life crisis and want to be violent but under the protection of the law. They are not officially cops and don't even follow orders, the other cops don't like to have them around and sometime refuse to have them deployed.
They just shoot at people and run to the CRS when it get hot.
>black bloc
Our black blocs are more violent against other protestors who made a wrongthink than against the cops. The worse they do to the establishment is to sack some bank office or ATM, which is just a line in the gain or loses of the banks. Their action is planed by the system. It's like trying to destroy a railroad by driving a train on it.
Their biggest action was to burn a bank, which was under an habitation building. What a great idea.
Despite that, at least they can fight and sometime do, and this is more than what I have seen from the American black blocks, who are just posers.

Black bloc tactics work in some cases, but remember the more volent you are, cops are going to come with more force. Cops never go into a fight with less force then their opponent. Also I've heard some protesters say that cops will false flag volence by dressing like the rioters and throwing explosives into the crowd lke fireworks to escalate the situation.
Expect chemical weapons (tear gas/pepper spray) basically that stuff you drink for heartburn, but rub t on your face to neutralize.
Depending on your country, expect anything from dogs to horses to firehoses or just getting your soykaf bashed in, unless its truly 3rd world, where you will probably just get shot by the cops who do this every other week.
Riots are really stupid and overated, would not advise, that doesn't stop me from watching people get fuarrrked up from my balcony for entertainment.

Pretty much. Riots waste a lot of energy for little gain. Even when the rioters win (like in Seattle or Portland or DC) they usually don't have enough of a plan to do anything with their victory.

You follow laws? You are NGMI, nigga.
fsociety · 2022-07-22 13:26
I have several years of experience at protests and blocs, so here's my advice regarding the matter:
>ALWAYS face the cops and watch their behavior
I've seen countless of arrests of people looking another way or thinking the police wasn't about to charge. You have to be prepared to run away at any point
>never get arrested
the law changes depending on your country, but most places can keep you under arrest for one or two days even if you did nothing wrong, and some countries like France won't hesitate to give prison for things such as "participating in a protest in order to commit violence" even if you did nothing yourself.
>don't be the one to escalate violence
if you're in a peaceful crowd, don't start throwing stones. A madman will always do that first, and only when other people start following means it's secure enough to do so without risking immediate arrest
>protect your identity and other's
1. mask your face
2. wear neutral clothes, especially shoes that are often used to identify protesters from photos/videos
3. if you see journalists or other protesters recording any illegal act you're not taking part in ; either go block their view by standing between them and the action, or if you're more comfortable with that try to grab their phone/camera and physically prevent them from filming.
Videos from inside a protest are one of the biggest help to cops when it comes to identifying protesters, it shouldn't even exist.
>if the protest has a start time, always arrive late
it can help you avoid police body search, which is a good idea if you're carrying any object that can be judged "illegal" (again, there are some examples in france during the Yellow Vests of people being arrested before a protest because of glasses or face masks because "if you want to protect yourself from tear gas it means you're here to fight when the police asks you to disperse")
>know when to de-escalate
if you're the last one to commit anything illegal, the police will target you. Know when to stop and stop doing anything illegal the moment you change clothes
>put your phone in plane mode or shut it down
kinda obvious but always a good thing to remember. And do not just shut it in the protest, remove it from the network BEFORE leaving your house and turn it on AFTER coming back
>if you get arrested, say nothing more to the cops than what's legally required from you
in france for example, it's your name, age and address iirc. NEVER talk about the protest or how it went down, because it could be used against you or other people.
>watering tear gas pellets or putting a cone on them is gay, throw them back
but make sure you have heat-resistant gloves. One day I threw one back mechanically while I only had cotton gloves, huge burn on my finger :))) Try to use your feet, only use your hands as a last ressource. And before anything, make sure it IS a gas pellet and not some TNT grenade that will tear your limb apart. That happens a lot in france
>always wear gloves if you're gonna throw something at the police
consider that they will search for fingerprints even if they don't
>watch out for weird inflitrated officers
these ones never work with protesters (even though your average PeacefulTM Protester will buy into the conspiracy that all violence is made by undercover cops like >>61105 who clearly gets their news from fuarrrking facebook) but they will try to identify "agitators" to arrest for later. It's usually a single guy with neutral clothes, sometimes talking in his shirt where his radio is. Just gather a few people and pressure the guy, since he knows he's in hostile territory he'll leave without much resistance
overall >>61040 gives mostly good advice too, I usually don't take eye spray because it takes too much place to carry around, but always breathe through a mask and/or a cloth if you don't want to vomit your guts
>take a gun with you
that's retarded though. Carrying a gun is a good reason for some police guy to straight up shoot at you and pass it as "self defense". When no one has a gun, the police cant just shoot up random people because they threw stones
>>61042
more precisions about charges
Make sure you know how to differentiate between riot cops (in france, CRS and GM) and the arrest cops (BAC). The CRS and GM charge slowly and rarely try to arrest people. The BAC on the other hand always charge with the goal of either arresting people they targeted beforehand, or seize the bloc banner. If the BAC is charging you, run for your fuarrrking life.
>>61043
more precisions about water canons
it is recorded that sometimes cops add an additive in the water that is responding to UV lights and takes weeks to wear off. If you can avoid water canons, avoid them. It's mostly used to prove that the people arrested did indeed partake in the fights, but if you made something very illegal to the point where the cops will try to get you several days/weeks later, burn your clothes and try to get a body wash that'll remove the stains.
>>61044
shields are only a good idea if you are sure you can get to the protest without being intercepted. Which is rarely the case except maybe in the US and LatAm
>I imagine France is going to get a lot worse
actually, it has been very calm for the past year. Votef@gs were convinced they would be able to do something through the elections, so no one cared to organize/go to protests in the mean time.

I have noticed the cops respect the rights of the people who can become violent. I always went on the non declared yellow vest walk because there was more violent people there and we got less heat from the cops.
Of course pointing it to the cops is not a bright idea.
>BAC is charging you, run for your fuarrrking life.
Or if you have friends, fight. The bacs are cowards. When the CRS are not here, they don't dare be violent but sometime they forget they are alone. We got two cornered in a clothe washing shop and they hide behind the civilians.
>It's mostly used to prove that the people arrested did indeed partake in the fights
Yes, I remember the technological weapons they were supposed to use. It can just show that you were on a general aera at a general moment. Not usable in court. They got you on a video or not.

>>61135
>ALWAYS face the cops and watch their behavior
The cops will try to thin out and single out protestors too, so if you get away from the group you will be easy to catch
>never get arrested
Always a risk, this is why protesting is probably not a good hobby to be honest
>don't be the one to escalate violence
The whole point of a protest is to be non-violent, remember that the people making the rules are not the agitated police who are getting paid to stop the protest movement.
>put your phone in plane mode or shut it down
Someone post the leaks of the US government flight data tracking where they harvested all the protestor phone data by flying over it with "Civilian Aircraft"
>if you get arrested, say nothing more to the cops than what's legally required from you

If it's full on dictatorship with no hope of protest.... At that point you find a list of GPS coordinates of properties owned by any people powerful enough to have influence on events (politicians, rich lobbyists, grifters, corporate goons, whatever), you buy lots of non-perishable food, water, clothes, and take/rent someone else's car, and you go to each place and leave every property a (delayed) firey surprise :) If a particular person has guards, you iterate down social web- go for anyone remotely associated with them and their property and destroy those wherever possible. We don't know the answer. Can the old-school tactics work if a country can effectively travel back in time via camera surveillance to know who went where, who gathered where, and listen in via some dumbass's phone? Terrorism does not paint u in a favorable light, but surely a bad regime with good media control can control what people think about a movement anyway? Once you realize voting doesn't matter as key institutions running the show are far removed from voting and eu parliament members even say things like "we cant let the people decide" on record you realize you are already in an authoritarian system. Some ancient democracies excluded old foggies for that reason from politics entirely- make room for next gen to grow. Voting age limit 60 would be quite the show.

yes, we are all well aware. Literally nobody is saying that western "democracy" is good.
We're just saying that supporting dictators is stupid.

And why? Cause you got repeatedly told dicktator are dicks dont listen to them jonny til you believed it. Same soykaf as the commie scare post ww2 but while the commie scare stopped after soviets fell there were still some dictator run countries left to "liberate" and put a henchman in rulership position. Arab spring being the foremost example.

>allowing individuals or groups of people absolute power over others can be positive in some circumstances as people are just too dumb to organise themselves (not me of course; I'm smart but most people who are not me)
>if you don't support so-and-so tyrants that means you support western neoliberal oligarchic hell because I can't possibly think of any alternative to A and B
>liberty? that's dumb

you have a serious issue with comprehension driven by a blatant contrarian mindset, i wont even bother pointing it all out as one example is long enough
>go on and give us one (one) country that is:
>- not western(ized)
>- not a worse authoritarian state than average western states
Absolute blind to circumstances, if you aren't gay but are a stock trader you will feel more freedom in an arab country that kills gays but allows you to short wildly (derezzed in EU) because only one of those things matter to your well being.
Laws are only restrictive when they affect you so freedom is not an objective value people care about. And do you really think its different in west? Small business and farmers are getting crippled by regulations while the npcs are caught in theater about identity politics since occupy happened.
ussr pic is what also has been happening to west for more than a decade already. People short the west by running away while users & feminists are occupied with identity politics which keeps them blind to more pressing matters. And the higher ups acknowledge capital flight happening: the EU added a new 24% tax for corp assets when leave the EU start of 2020.
Just now us(sr soon) redefined the meaning of a recession. You are getting slowly roasted while the midwits clap cause media told them its good while eu farmers are protesting trying to survive against the fertilizer ban.

Provably untrue. Occupy was identity politics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCwhlZtHhWs

The origin of occupy was banks forged good credit ratings on bad debt their sold, house of cards collapsed and people were forced to pay bailout for banks, people then wanted to protest over it. Some bitch hijacking a talk and someone recording isn't counter evidence. Its more documentary how it went from the original cause to a mess about identity politics.

The goddamn censorship on this site is out of control. I just got blocked for "spamming" while making an original post with no links in it. Can you at least post somewhere the list of things that the bot prevents? I can't even rephrase my post because I don't know what the politically incorrect term I used was.

You're falling into the mind prison. I can name a few: Somaliland, Jordan, the Chiapas region of Mexico.
The point is that the belief that any country which is not a neoliberal soykafhole must be an authoritarian soykafhole, and vice-versa, is fundamentally stupid.

Thanks for that video... brought back some memories of my own from that time. I remember when I was at a rally, almost the exact same scenario happened... some person whom we had never seen before said "they are doing this in the capital" (I'm not in the USA) although none of us had heard of it. Back then I had no idea what was happened. There was so much momentum and we all wanted to help each other and then then this stuff happened and it was all gone. Identity politics really does exist solely to protect international finance. That's its only purpose and I hate anyone who adheres to this garbage with ever fibre of my being for what they did.

Sorry, just realised you were saying that Occupy WAS identity politics. Identity politics (intersectionality idea) KILLED the Occupy movement. It was only years later that it became obvious to me why this enormous worldwide movement (in western countries anyway) failed so hard. If only we had known at the time what was happening... hindsight is 20/20 as is said

I like this discussion. It's cool to see everyone's very different perspectives about the world cultivated by the original topic of organized discourse.
I just wanna say, if you don't have to protest then DO NOT protest. Getting hit by rubber bullets will fuaaark you up. None of your friends or anyone in the protest is gonna help you if you get arrested, which is something that will follow you the rest of your life and potentially fuaaark your entire future up. If you lose an eye or break a bone, even if you're in right and the cop is in the wrong, those two things will still be damaged for the rest of your life.
9 times outta 10 it just isn't worth it. They're prosecuting those guys that rushed the United States Capitol till this very day. Some guy decides to record everything for those sweet tasty instagram likes and now even if you walked away unscathed by the protest, your face is out there and it's only a matter of time before they throw you in the gulag. Even if that doesn't happen, you WILL be paranoid and look over your shoulder until you are dead.
I'm not saying it isn't worth it to protest, but if you truly believe something enough to protest for it, then you better be ready to give your life for that cause. Not 100% in? Stay home and chill

i haven't read this thread, but I have been cheering on the farmer revolts in Europe, and when you mentioned tanks, it occurred to me thattractors sure do make great killdozers.

tractors are the GOAT when it comes to protests. We have a long tradition of ZADs with farmers, they know how to use their assets efficiently

That's not universally true. Movements with any longevity whatsoever have both short term jail and long term prison support networks. In fact prison support is the main thing some people contribute to movement, as their personal focus.

What is the standard that Love builds ?
Iff internet culture could try to hoist such a standard ,
our kind could end any conflict .
Where would we hoist such a standard ?
While I would certainly say : " Alasland@last. " ,
Canada seems like the greatest fruit for landing all our hopes while we gas them .
After all the penny book phrase coin'd during L'esperant's pilgrimage does go :
" Gas fall dia , gas fall Dio ! ! 1 ! ! "

I just wanted to say non of that was present at the start of the movement. It was full of entitled "99%ers" who think it's only fair that the public pay for their poor life choice, which is ironically what the banks did and what provoked the movement, but no social justice anywhere to be seen. And Obama couldn't exactly handle the PR disaster of having cops to beat everyone in the street.
Then, IDpol came, out of nowhere. Their fundraising were always successful, as if people with a lot of money were backing them.
When they ran into a legal problem, like that one time when the website of one of their newspaper installed a spyware on the computers, charges are just doped, as if people who have to power to give order to the justice dept were backing them.
They had a very generous media coverage, as if the people who own the press (hello?) were backing them.
They gained more and more followers, got more and more momentum and soon enough, the working class had to shut up and listen to homosexual and black supremacist propaganda, and one by one, the protesters left.

>Getting hit by rubber bullets will fuaaark you up
No, not really. It just hurt.
>if you get arrested, which is something that will follow you the rest of your life
No, not so much. Unless you were throwing molotovs, your future employers won't even be allowed to see it.
Ho, and don't do as some people I met did. Don't record yourself throwing stones at the cops to post in on a social network. There are cops whose job is to find you.

This was the standard review I saw parroted on imageboards and in right wing media at the time but truth be told I couldn't discern any coherent message at all from the protesters themselves. It just seemed to be the last gasp of the anti-globe movement plus a bunch of other people who also had nowhere else to go, attempting to rally under one banner. There were even some Tea Party types at the very beginning, no soykaf.

They were the most visible ones because they were just so silly. They had the leave Britney alone energy.
You describe them exactly as what a spontaneous popular movement look like. Everyone come with his goal.
The IDpol madness, even feminism was more than marginal at the start. It never was about making Bipoc ados feel more welcomed in our institutions or legalizing bug chasing.
