Access to famous people

Donna Hawthorne · 2021-12-14 15:45
Did you ever realize how easy it is in the current time to contact famous people via the internet? When I started seeing that consciously that was pretty amazing, suddenly those people online or anywhere on the world didn't seem so far away, I could actually write to them with a decent chance they would read it. Did you ever use that? I started commenting on newspaper articles and tv documentaries that I liked more and more, started to ask questions or make suggestions. I also started messaging authors of blogs that I like to read more often. One person you might be interested in is RMS, I exchanged quite a bunch of emails with that dude because he always takes the time to respond and is generally someone with interesting thoughts. Also contacted Luke Smith in the past although I am not a big fan of him but he also replied after some time. This sort of interaction really makes the internet more fun to use for me so I thought I should share this. Please feel free to post any experiences you made with this or similar things in this thread.

Neither Stallman nor Luke Smith are famous Internet people. Their active audience is that of a small town newspaper, completely manageable from their viewpoint. Try getting a non-automated reply from actual celebrity while not having your message classified as spam.

>>54372 I've sent kind words to musicians and received clearly non-automated responses. Nobody super famous, but musicians famous enough that they draw sizeable crowds. Much more famous than Stallman. I don't think op is using celebrity to mean people like Kanye West who are super famous. I read it more as celebrities within their own niches. E.g. Linus is a celebrity in the Linux world.

I have emailed quite a bunch of people without getting a reply. Companies on their payed services I am using, authors on their comments on stuff I've also read, scientists and politicians on their comments in TV shows, I've even emailed a TV show that was going to soykaf with questions and advice. Only the politician was happy to thank me for my compliments and did not reply to my questions. But hey he's a politician. No one else replied. I don't do this often, but stuff im knowledgeable about and im interested in to hear someones related thoughts I go to the place I think I can find an answer. I think they don't give a soykaf I spent a couple of hours writing up a coherent essay.

Okay but most of these minor celebrities would not be famous if it were not for the internet. That and you could always just mail someone.

>>54354 You can get the sysadmin of any and all websites on the line by threatening their ICANN domain registration, lol. >>54411 Unexpected essay is very spammy, introduce yourself and negotiate that stuff first.
