Why can't i fit in?
Tank · 2021-12-04 14:15
I've been observing many things around me, the way people communicate with each other and simillar things
I realized that don't fit in with others at all, i have anxiety issues and no confidence in public places.
I don't have many friends, most people don't like me and i'm not even sure why
I feel like i don't fit in with others at all, i feel like im way too different from others. whats the point in all of that? Just 2 options. Being alone or trying to make friends making more people hate me.
I don't have too much in common with others, my friends find many things interesting that i find boring, like today's trends, social medias like tiktok and stuff like that.
I'm just lost and confused at this point.

> I don't have many friends, most people don't like me and i'm not even sure why
How do you know they don't like you? Is it something they have explicitly told you or is something that you believe? Consider that it could be your anxiety making you believe that people don't like you. Also you said that you're not friendless, therefore people that enjoy your company do exist. Maybe you should try looking for people in different places
> I don't have too much in common with others, my friends find many things interesting that i find boring, like today's trends, social medias like tiktok and stuff like that.
No one finds that kind of stuff interesting, people just look at those things when they need to waste time because it's mindless entertainment. Often times we end up in the same room as people with whom we have very different interests, but we still want to enjoy the time we have to spend together. The easiest way of doing that is talking about stuff that is accessible to pretty much everyone: work, family, memes on social media.
A person you met could have an extremely niche interest but they might not have brought it up with you because they know you probably don't care about it, instead they preferred to ask you if you had seen the latests tiktok memes because there was a bigger chance that you could have been interested.
Here's a tip for you if you ever find yourself in the middle of a conversation about something you know nothing about: ask questions, people like to explain things because it makes them feel smart. The hard part is learning to ask good questions, obviously if your colleagues are talking about soccer and you ask "what is soccer" you'll just look retarded but questions like "what teams are playing next week? oh, and who do you think will win?" or "how is Barcelona doing? oh, not good uh, why is that in your opinion?" can spark a bit of chat.
Good luck friend, don't isolate yourself

It just seems to me like i'm pissing off everyone around me. Theres people who literally ignore me and i have no clue why.

Yeah ill have to try that, it is difficult to make a good question tho as you mentioned.

Thanks for the advice, means a lot

It doesn't get better, you just eventually accept yourself and try to make loneliness more bearable. Better than chasing an unicorn that doesn't exist.

I had this feeling, OP, talking to my sister. Her husband and her are getting into VR and seemed excited about Fanbook 2.0. I use that name since it occurred to me that a think tank constructed that name, a name to last. She was weirded out by my views on it, but I don't feel strongly enough to speak out as my voice is small and that wheel will collect enough moss as it revolves in one spot. I think a good way to go about it is to practice incessantly, surely there are are as many dusty disciplines as there is dust. For instance, I recently went to an archery range and gave it my best with my flatbow. I started out reading the White Company, then Hunting With the Bow & Arrow by Saxton Pope (libgen), then the Witchery of Archery. I found a flatbow that approximated my height, did a onetime calculation for my arrows' proper spine flexibility, then went out for a string. They were like, your bow might snap, and did a draw test. Held up well, shot ok. So much time, and I finally got around to going back. I shot terribly and got slapped silly on my arm. I thought a leather bracer I found would solve it but the string would hit in front then behind, leaving welts. Finally got out a long thick welding glove and it did the trick, probably to the chagrin of the residential traditional guy. Point being that even as a novice it can pay to have been read, I guess?

those who dwell in the future... you know what's next.
same goes with those who dwell in the past.
just live in the moment, don't fear mistakes, don't be too anxious and sad -> Present Day, Present Time! AHAHAHAHAHA!

Other people don't hate you YOU hate yourself and are projecting that idea to others

That's what i mean, i can't find any topics with them in common. All they care about is TikToks and social media influencers...

Its a self reinforced cycle, the more time they spend addicted to social media the less time they have for other things thus they know nothing about the world and its of course more comfortable to burn more time watching dumb soykaf than take the effort to step outside and try to do something else.

I think this lainanon is right OP. I dealt with social isolation for a long time, even as a kid I didn't fit in. you have to approach the right people at the right time. its not reasonable to expect a beautiful woman to want to hear about StarCraft, nor is it reasonable to expect a nerd to want to discuss Freestyle skiing. the trick is to approach people who you know are mature enough to engage with you. once you get to know them and have talked with them about THEIR interests, the flow of a conversation will eventually turn towards YOUR interests. at which point, strange ideas are often embraced.
you cant just approach people with unsolicited wacky topics, they have to:
A. have their own interests that are more than "tiktok"
B. be mature enough to converse about them
the same goes for you...

if you're a NEET right now, you are fked i would say but if you are at uni or working, try to not take yourself to seriously and it'll be fine. I had literally nothing in common with most of my uni friends and most of them did not even know i existed till end of sophomore year. I repaired computers for couple of my dorm neighbours, helped one open the door when he lost his key, started playing a bit of vidya with them and now I have cool memories and nice friends
you're gonna make it lain

Sometimes the feeling of emptiness that accompanies loneliness gets back to me.
I hate these moments because I feel deep pain, but there is nothing I can do about it. Except wait for it to decrease, hopefully.
