2022 goals

Yet Another Lainon · 2021-11-29 15:32
Already thought about a few things you wanna work on in 2022 lainon? Here is my list: - Writing my first few C programs (IRC client, terminal emulator, emulator, ...) - Becoming better at networking. advanced sysadmin maintenance and Linux security stuff by doing reverse engineering - Learn functional programming in Haskell and make concurrent web applications - Program some embedded system like Arduino to solve a real-world problem Maybe a few controversial things but I really hope that learning these subjects are worth my time. Pointing me in the right direction with a book or video course is always welcomed (Bartosz Milewski seems to be a good Haskell teacher)

Hey that's a great thread Idea, Lain :> Here's my crummy list: -Healing from a traumatizing relationship and recovering my old self -Making new experiences with humans and recovering from my current anxiety, fear and distrust of them -Changing jobs and getting a career going or back on track -Finding out what the fuarrrk that's even gonna be, settling for something that's worth it. -Moving -Turning creative pursuits into a real habit/hobby which would entail: -Regularly write again, continue on my novels and stories -Drawing regularly again, learning high Art techniques -Making music regularly again -Learning the Saxophone -Working on my Ideas for a board game -Learning Python via RenPy
HELIOS · 2021-11-29 19:43
I think that these would have to be mine: - Come up with something dumb to do with python. - Play more guitar - Make a friend, or even just start talking to other people again. - Finish learning C - Switch to DWM - Start learning electronics. and finally - read more books - - more books read - - books read more -
The Fin · 2021-11-29 20:39
>>53806 >finish learning C oops im retarded, I more meant just finish the C programming language book.
Lady Jessica · 2021-11-29 21:22
>>53806 On the dwm point can I suggest you give sowm a look? It's written by the guy who wrote KISS linux and is 1/3rd the size of dwm in terms of source code. It's a more traditional floating window manager and uses a similar patch system to dwm so if simplicity is the goal it might be far more usable (though if you want a tiling window manager of course go for dwm). For the python thing there is that one thread about the funny stock/generic vector art collection that needed scraping.

Leave this job for a better one, make some friends, put more effort into this game I've been working on since early last year and maybe get it done by the end of next. But before all that, I'm going to have to work on my mental health. Otherwise I won't have the social skills for the first two or the self-esteem for all of them. I've already read a couple books that relate to what caused me to be this way, but they all pretty much imply that I should see a shrink. Except there's none who are available when I am.
fsociety · 2021-11-29 22:27
- I'd like to get a hobby away from my PC. I've thought about buying a keyboard and learning to play it but I'm kinda hesitant considering how much a decent one costs - I'd like to figure out what I want to do with my programming career: I'm still in uni, but next year I will graduate yet I still don't know in what I should try to specialize! - I'd like to actually finish at least one of my projects, I've left way too many of them in a half-completed state
Cereal Killer · 2021-11-29 22:43
-find stable housing -get a demo of my program working for personal use -end my 10 year strike and do some productive meaningful work in my field -create a 'channel' -branch out my social sphere and talk to more people with similar life experience and goals

>Work harder at my Mathematics degree >Finish reading my Traditionalist philosophy books >Increase my homebrewing output >Workout daily (core -> arms -> legs -> repeat) >Live as frugal as possible to max savings >Pick up a part time job to boost those savings >Learn to play an instrument: keyboard or guitar >Find a home This is all I have so far. I might come up with more ideas in the future, or remove one off this list.

Heh, mine were extremely similar to yours, even down to the 'write an IRC client' part.

- get promoted at my job, or at the very least don't get fired - completely quit at least Reddit, if not all online forums - finish guitar method book I'm working on - Either get to c1 in Spanish (am already b2) or B2 in German - Move. To where I'm not sure, but somewhere else. At the very least downtown. Not sure if I want to abandon friends/family to live in a different part of the country but I really want to live somewhere walkable, which is not really possible where I live. - stay consistent with Muay Thai classes. Not sure what measurable goals I have in regards to Muay Thai but I will be happy if I continue improving - make more friends. I really only have one friend I like outside of my girlfriend. I have two friends which I'm only friends with because I'm lonely - help my girlfriend get US citizenship. Her dad was a citizen so she can come, just have to go through the process. - get through my reading list. I want to read Plato -> Kant -> Schopenhauer + some Daoist texts. - start meditating as part of my daily routine. - get to 125 pounds. I'm really short so 125 is actually a good weight for me; I'm 135 pounds right now.
Yamaoto Toshi · 2021-11-30 06:56
-see a brain doctor and get medicated -stop being a lazy idiot and do the school work im paying lots of money to be able to do -read more books -stop wasting so much money -stop masturbating to reddit all the time and get a hobby -create more. participate in game jams, learn music, draw, whatever i will probably do none of this but its nice to get it down on paper so i can look back in a year and think about what a failure i am
Yamaoto Toshi · 2021-11-30 07:37
>>53836 Interesting file. How'd you do that one?
Tomohisa "Tom" Kanezaki · 2021-11-30 09:50
Thanks for the thread lainon. Probably no reason to delay writing down my goals now that I'm here. - Organising and planning how I'm going to spend last 3 semesters of my degree, so that time and money spent on it don't turn to waste. - Relearn what I can from previous classes that I wasted thanks for quarantine and ADHD. - Fix huge holes in my understanding of math (calculus and trigonometry mainly) and physics (start over pretty much). - Start learning C. No jumping from language to language this time though. Just C, until I can make small projects with it. - Learn some basics of computer science and so on. (not sure where to start though) - Gradually get comfortable with using Linux. - Find my first ever job, even small one. Mostly to push myself through fear of failure. - Save up money for electronic guitar. Probably not something I will manage to do in 2022, but at least it gives me reason to do previous goal. - Try my old hobbies like drawing and writing again, but being more consistent with them this time around. - Finally write down stories and ideas I made up in my head since being 12 years old on paper. - Work on my game ideas and try making basic prototypes as programming practice. - Start learning Japanese. - Read at least 1 book for the year. Not expecting from myself more than that with my ADHD. - Exercise every day, obviously. - Limit social media and video game consumption, until it becomes exception in how I spend my free time, not rule. - Go out and socialise with strangers, friends and others to fix my crippling anxiety of being in public. - Not seeing me being able to find good therapist, so properly plan out how I'm going to deal with OCD and ADHD myself. - Try to reflect on times when I was more happy and carefree, on my interests, dreams and so on to understand what I want to do with my life after university ends. Bit to long of a list, but one year is long time to at least chip away at some goal. And only few things really must be prioritised.
Turner · 2021-11-30 11:58
Here's mine: - Kill off all computer/phone soykaf aside from the occasional game with friends. My attention span is being killed faster than the speed of light (I really want to get a flip phone if I can get used to typing on it again) - Read, read and read books - Try tobacco again. My close friend smokes but I never got interested until recently. He gave me a flavored pack to try, which I could tell tasted like soykaf because of it being flavored so I wanted to try the original but the place where I live is en route to be locked down through to 2022 - Start planning my move to the suburb. My country has some mad comfy and quiet suburb areas, which are walk-friendly too - Find a job in a bookstore, preferably family run. I've always found the idea novel ever since highschool but never actually worked the job - Start going to the gym. I'm one of those people who look scrawny but can only get bigger if they start working out, only eating more has no effect - Rediscover my long lost hobby of art
J.C. Denton · 2021-11-30 15:31
-Continue learning Japanese, maybe take a proficiency exam to help gauge my progress -Finally get to a body weight that I'm satisfied with -Get better at guitar, hopefully good enough to jam with others while not looking incompetent -Listen to more music -Write more music -Make more friends with similar hobbies and / or find a girlfriend -Smoke less -Be nicer to people and place higher value on those important to me This year was actually pretty solid for me for personal development, hoping it can continue
Splicer · 2021-12-01 07:25
I'd like to: - Take my Japanese learning more seriously and devote time to consume raw manga and J-Dramas for vocab and immersion - Start running and basic strength training to become more fit - Brush up on operating systems concepts as I've totally forgotten what I've learned in school - Read more - Revisit machine learning notes I took during grad school and begin pivoting my career toward an ML-related role

I've come to terms that I don't have what it takes to make it in the technology world. I might I mean if I was able to put all my effort, time, and had some opportunities. But I don't, I don't have time or energy from my low pay physical labor job and also my wife. :| so my goals are to 1. get an apprenticeship with or with out pre-employment training, I'm thinking millwright. if I need the pre-employment training it would start in September. 2. get drivers license 3. I want hair transplants, money permitting or confidence to be bald. 4. get some language books and read them. 5. make some soykaf. 6. I'm in a terrible marriage, I'd like it to be fixed this year, or for it to end. But I'm doing what I can and she needs to work out her soykaf. >>53812 you don't need a good keyboard, your a beginner, you're going to sound bad regardless, but you can buy used as well. don't make excuses.

>>56050 I had an idea that maybe someone might point this out, I may have misspoken though and didn't provide the whole picture or my outlook. He is also psychotherapist aside from being a psychiatrist. In my eyes this is much better approach than just being a psychologist since they will know much better how to solve my mental issues. Also I would note that me solving my own issues with drugs and him solving my issues with drugs isn't nearly the same, as the drugs he might provide are pinpoint given to solve my issues and are only there in duration and in quantity for solving of the issue, instead of me being my own pharmacologist and doctor. In my own experience people that do drugs (me included, in the past) do them in a self-destructive manner instead of for bettering themselves, but even if they did use them to better themselves they can't assure themselves with the knowledge of dosage or routine to treat themselves the best way possible. I give him my trust because of his expertise and experience. I am fortunate enough to have found best person in 300km radius for that and have enough money so that I can do that. My friend actually suggested him and he went to 6 different psychologists/psychiatrists/psychotherapists. That's kinda the too long explanation. I am really optimistic about this year and my issues being solved in this span of a year.

OP here, one month later to reflect on my post. All of my objectives have been put on hold because I'm working full-time again. It's really draining and hard to combine with my hobbies so starting this month I'll try a different strategy. Objectives for February: - Finish my first project and put it on Gitlab - Learn Haskell again starting with category theory - Get out of debt and fix all my real-life problems - Get started with CTFs
Splicer · 2022-02-04 00:24
There are specific things I want to do, but that's not really important. What's more important to me is getting over myself in terms of actually doing things. I want to change. I waste a lot of time and am unhappy because of it. I have lots of barely-started things I want to do. I think I don't really look for communities for stuff I'm doing, or something. At least irl they're pretty hard to come across, espicially when, like me, you're not really looking. I think that's what seperates the people I want to be like from me, but I'm not sure. Some people just seem to have a "magic spark" that I lack, that powers them. However, I don't know those people irl, so there's obviously a lot I don't see, and these aren't really "friends", so I can't really ask them. Well, as far as communities, there are online places for stuff, but really it's about finding individuals. I could get an answer to any technical question about a topic by posting on https://topicforum.tld or whatever the kids use these days, but that's not the same thing -- it takes months to cultivate relationships. Maybe if I found someone through a site like that, who knows. I guess I'm looking for mentorship or something. I don't really have any guidance. It feels like if there's any dip in my progress with something then it just stops entirely. One bad day is enough to kill my efforts for something for a long time. Maybe I don't have enough grit or something, whatever that means. Maybe it's because there's no one else to keep me responsible, or no one else to motivate me in that way. I'm not really sure what's wrong with me. Maybe nothing -- but then what's different between me and others who seem not to have this problem? So, what I want to do is fix these problems. Accomplishing my goals will naturally follow.
Joey · 2022-03-04 12:03
For me it is: get out of debt/save money. The paying off debt is not hard, it is the saving money. I don't like to save money unless I can invest it but I guess pms& tax liens it is! -Learn Blockchain/Smart Contracts. I am going through a buggy class but hopefully I can eventually make it through it and get into stakeable coins and smart contracts, but one day at a time dear Watson! -Fix up rental and main house. The rental is almost half done so I can rent the living room at least. The house I is in needs some TLC mostly outside. -Reoriented my plan B. Many countries introduced authoritarian policies and make me reconsider the holes in my plan B. Work on my CS degree.

This is more of a 2022-2023 (even into early 2024) goals list at this point since we are already nearly halfway into 2022: - Become career-ready competent in Python and Django framework with Bootstrap styling for clean UI - Land a good-paying work from home job in Python/Django web dev - Earn my drivers license - Buy a car - Open a stock account and start putting a big chunk of my paychecks into stocks to start building a diversified stock portfolio that will net me passive income for the future - Learn Italian (already know Spanish and some French so learning the quintessential Romance language should be pretty straightforward for me) - Learn Ukrainian (not so straightforward, but probably a fun challenge) - Get ripped/a 6 pack (already getting there, I spent most of 2021 into winter 2022 bulking and lifting big weights so when I finish this spring/summer cut I think I will look great) - Get a qt gf But I have a few questions. First, how long do lainons think it will take me to learn Django well enough to land a job with it when right now I am about to finish this Python crash course book: https://nostarch.com/pythoncrashcourse2e? Like, I'm 15 pages away from finishing the final beginner Django project from the book (and last page of the project is last page of the book except for afterword and appendices). Also I have a basic beginners competency of how to use Git for version control from the command terminal which I've been forcing myself to use to save my work in the Django project and also the 2D Alien invasion shooter game project from that book so I can get more practice with it. Right now my plan is when I am done with Python crash course book, to do this route: Django for Beginners book, then Django with REST APIs book, then Django for Professionals book, then finally 2 Scoops of Django book. Basically these books, in this order: https://www.amazon.com/Django-Beginners-Build-websites-Python/dp/1983172669 https://www.amazon.com/REST-APIs-Django-powerful-Python/dp/198302998X https://www.amazon.com/Django-Professionals-Production-websites-Python/dp/1081582162 https://www.feldroy.com/books/two-scoops-of-django-3-x Another question, or more accurately concern that I have is that with house prices how they are, even after I land a web developer job I don't think I will be able to buy my own house to move out from my parents house for quite some time. Does this doom my dating prospects? Or will a lot of girls not care if I still live with my parents as long as I have a job, car and license? Because I want to take advantage of living with my parents and therefore not paying rent, utilities or food for as long as I can so that money that I would otherwise be spending on those things if I lived in an apartment I could instead invest into stocks for my future passive income flow.

>>58160 To continue, I don't have a degree because I dropped out of uni years ago, but I have read online that some web developers are self taught, no degree and still land a job in their field of choice. I actually first learned Python a long time ago, back in CS101 at uni which I passed, but I stopped coding for a long time so I had to re-learn it. Re-learning Python was way faster and easier for me than the first time of course, even with all the time away from programming. Finally, there are a few other Django books and resources that I have at my disposal, in particular this list from the author of the Python crash course book that I'm about to finish: https://ehmatthes.github.io/pcc_2e/recommended_reading/django/ . Any lainons with experience working with Django for jobs? That have any insight into the order of Django books that I want to cover to learn Django to good career-ready competency? Or can maybe suggest a better order of books/resources to cover that might flow better for me? In terms of natural progression?

>>58160 You should make real projects, like webshops, admin panels and CRMs because this is the only way you can learn Django's pitfalls. Such books are supposed to help you in practice. Profile your performance with Django Silk, learn Django Rest Framework, its default Token auth and JWT auth, because if you go for backend role you'll most likely build headless REST APIs for React/Vue/Flutter frontends. Learn why you need a refresh token if you go for standard JWT auth implementation. If you got nothing to do, go harder: learn how to work with oAuth to integrate 3rd-party services as normal people really do like to log in with their already existing accounts. May be try to integrate some payment systems. Bonus points for Swagger (drf-yasg) to generate API documentation. On backend you should be able to speak SQL as fluent as your native tongue. Django ORM will help you to automate basics but any complexity will result in abysmal performance, in a real business project you will have to resort to writing raw SQL queries. Git merge (--no-ff), git stash, git revert, git reset HEAD(~ and ^ - learn the difference), git pull and rebase are mandatory for team work. Obviously Linux and basic knowledge how to work with docker containers. Because you will have lots of projects, each with its own environment, dependencies and connections to other services. You may work with legacy projects that also need an isolated environment. If you do this without docker/podman, it will only result in your system getting borked because the things you will have to work with are incompatible with each other. Fullstack role will give you the ability to start freelancing, which is great to give you starting experience and teach you to value your time and nerves instead of slaving away for pennies. Actual career strictly separates frontend and backend roles and there's a good reason for that, a company which does not understand this may not be a good company to work in. Lastly, there are much dumber people who did not read a single page and still got the job, because they were likable, social and ready to learn new things. So you shouldn't focus that much on being the best in the field, just know your business and you should be able to bullshit your way through.

I have been working on myself to speak my mind more and lead me to question a few things. First, some of the people in my life are not the best. One messed around wirh chicks when he was younger and got burnt legally. People put up a big issue about him but I really don't care. He is useful to me and I think everything was most likely consensual (even if the law says otherwise). The second person was a Saudi guy I would chill with from work and he was a blast. Bit of a playboy and was a fellow investment enthusiast, just a cool overall guy. He went back to Saudi Arabia and some people might say X or Y due to the kingdom's policies but despite that I really would like to visit that part of the world ( probably UAE). This brings me to Jeff Epstein. The little I listened to him her reminded me of the first friend and based off stuff in documentaries I have a hard time hating him. If the other stuff that people talk about is true yeah that is a bit more fuarrrked up than a "massage for a quarter". Still it seems like societies had things for people like my friend and Jeff to do which would keep them out of mischief and in many cases they swept both minor and major indiscretions under the rug. I then look at my extended family where supposedly the brother raped his younger sisters and got off, supposedly because he was a football star and I have no sympathy for that. The only thing I can think of is my friend was being a slacker and add in degeneracy and people look down on that. I think it was good I escaped my hometown , otherwise I could have probably got into some serious soykaf. The second part of this is I don't care about soykaf. Oh Biden or Trump did X or Y! Chris Rock got slapped! Joe Rogan said the N word! Seriously, why should I care about being black in America ( even though my married family is black)? Do they care about being autistic white INTJ in society? At this point I am just hedging myself from Weimerica and hoping to get a remote job so I can escape. Even quasi legit things ( like the who debacle in Florida about education standards) is fuarrrking stupid. Just homeschool your fuarking kids. Problem solved. Also try to reduce your tax bill to starve the beast. We have massive inflation, crime solve rates go down, further dumbing down of everything, and this is all society can come up with? Why should I pay my taxes, look out for my self interest, and do as I please? Why should I give a fuarrrk about stupid laws in general or social norms? It offers no benefit to me. And no not an angry incel and that is another cop out by society, even if you are married, which is my case. So why is it wrong to be transgressive in a sick society?

(33%, might have found a job?) -learn toki pona or/and dscript (10%) -get frens / fix platonic relationships (not in the wired) (?%) -reduce my dr pepper intake (i noticed i'm starting to drink 2 if not 3 cans a day, and even with a bmi as low as 14 its probably a bad idea to ingest that much sugar) (0%) -stop nailbiting/gnawing/etching the skin nigh my nails (0%) cant remember one, ill add later if i ever remember. pape unrelated, made it myself

>>58641 >nail-biting Wearing nail polish helps. The bad taste will remind you that you're trying to quit and minimize the amount of absent minded biting you do. Clear nail polish can be used if you don't want to be seen in colored nail polish, although colored nail polish will chip when you've bitten your nails which serves as another reminder about it. >learn toki pona pona a. sina lukin e lipu pu la sina kama sona lon tenpo lili. lipu sona ante mute li lon li pona. taso, lipu pu li pona mute tawa mi. nice. Read the official toki pona book and you'll learn quickly. There are a lot of other good learning resources, but the official book is the best one imo

>>53802 Neat idea. Here's my list - Release more music on my youtube channel - Make at least a completely original album - Release a videogame or at least a mod (working on that last one) - Read more books (this one is a left over from last year, last year I read 6 books) - find a better job At least I already achieved what was my first goal for this year, to move out of my parents house. Feels good to love on my own.

Here are my main goals for 2022 -earn the Security+ and the CySA+ certifications. -become extremely knowledgeable on linux and play with a lot of virtual machines, router firmware, cybersecurity software, firewalls, etc. -Take my diet and health very seriously from now on. I will cut out processed garbage as well as HFCS crap. I will also exercise almost every muscle in my body. -learn to hack, both in the traditional play-around-with-code sense, and the system security cracking sense. For programming, I will start with C, followed by Python (or maybe a little bit of Assembly), and then Scheme/Lisp. I might also learn some Go and Perl but idkl. I could also learn some reverse engineering and malware stuff but idk about that yet. -improve my speaking, argumentation, critical thinking and rhetorical skills. -Start reading much more. Stuff like Ulysses by James Joyce and Blood Meridian.

>>57357 Update. Girlfriend got a good job opportunity and probably won't be moving in with me anymore. Kinda feel blown the fuarrrk out. I've kept up with my study goals and have finished K&R, also I'm well into the top 1% of TryHackMe users now. I got a helpdesk job, unsure if I will finish my degree now. I'll probably just focus on certs and see if I can pivot to a better job in 6 months. Quit smoking briefly, but stress from my relationship caused me to smoke again. Everything is going well, except for my girlfriend who I think is the love of my life. Even though it's stupid, I will put more effort into being frugal so I can save more money to facilitate being with her. If I can grind out some certs me moving to her would be more comfortable. We are in a very long distance relationship. In a few months we both travel halfway and have a holiday together for a week or so, I very much look forward to that. One year ago I was a loser stoner living off of government assistance. I've come a long way.

Better late than never right >My Goals for the year How they're going so far >Stop drinking entirely Was going great from January to the end of March when I got sick with Covid and as a result stupidly let myself fall back into drinking, trying to get restarted now but its hard, I have been to the off licence four times today and narrowly avoided actually buying alcohol each time, the longest streak I've managed since the end of March was 4 days sober >Run a Marathon Derailed by getting the coof at the end of March, I was supposed to do one early May but was too weak through all of April for it to be doable ( I went from being able to run 20 miles to just barely being able to run 8) >Get down to 70kg bodyweight Again was going great until I got derailed by getting sick, I was within a month of reaching my goal at the end of March, now I'm heavier than I was when I started, alcohol is the primary reason for this, so stopping drinking again will hopefully help with this >Go to the gym and get strong Going pretty well all things considered, I have gone from not lifting at all in December to DL'ng 120kg for 5 reps and squatting 2 plate last week, I am going to change program to an intermediate one soon I think, annoyingly I was starting to get some minor but visible to me musculature before I got sick but now I'm fat enough again that its all covered up despite me being much stronger now than I was then. >Figure out if I have autism or am just broken I definitely am Autistic, I'm at the end of the professional diagnostic process now and will have to decide next week whether or not to formally "get" the diagnosis, i.e. decide whether I want the psychologist to legally diagnose me with it and have it in my permanent file or not. Doing the diagnosis made me reflect on a lot of stuff and give me a really good insight into some stuff I've always struggled with but was draining and made me feel a bit sad after every session because it made me really realise how different my thought processes and perspective are to most people, but overall I think it was worthwhile. >Make more friends/Go on more dates Going OK, I have joined some clubs to meet people and they're nice but I'm not very good in social situations still and also I'm realising that I simply cannot deal well with lots of social interaction and find more than 4 or 5 hours of socialising a week overwhelming and fatiguing. I am more communicative with people now than I had been last year but I am still not good at it Dating is going OK, not amazing but better than it had been, I started the year off right by getting stood up on the 2nd of January and am currently talking to 2 people with a second date with one of them on this Saturday coming up, which is exciting. I also had sex for the first time in almost 5 years this year. >Stop playing Videogames Mostly going well, I keep going back and forth on selling my GPU but I'm barely playing games now and am working on replacing them with more rewarding/diversified leisure activities >Complete an IT and Stats degree part time Was going great until I got sick, now not so well, I am planning to cram the next few weeks to catch up and scrape a pass in my current module since my work is paying for the degree but I have no enthusiasm for it anymore Overall great 1st quarter poor 2nd quarter.

yea its july whatever -stop looking for soykaf food to binge on every time I get emotional -stretch and walk daily, throw in bodyweight exercises every other day (I already do this but I'm very inconsistent, ofc the binging doesn't help) -try to study math/physics to see if I'm actually stupid or not and if I'm not too dumb I might go back to school -learn emacs and emacs-org -write in a diary about what's on my mind daily -start talking to people both online and irl ( I really struggle with this I'm shy as fuarrrk) -practice spoken english (pronunciation mostly) so I don't sound like mario™ -get 1 (ONE) friend -read books every day before sleeping instead of staring at screens -be more stoic but in a healthy way, not shutting off emotions completely -overall be consistent consistent consistent always prioritizing what I planned to do before anything else and trying to get things done no matter what, I fuarrrk my sleep schedule? I'll just do what I have to do anyways, I fuarrrked up something? I'll do it better next time and no the next time won't be after my tenth burnout I also want to get a drawing tablet and start practicing and many more creative things but that's something I'll think about once my life gets better, if I try now I'll just quit after a week

>>61565 One thing you could try, rather than day planning is using an app like loop habits tracker from fdroid or a to do table on paper to set yourself goals for things during the week then ticking off days when you do those things. Like I have a goal for reading 5 days a week, when I read at least 15 pages of a book I tick it off, I have one to run 4 times a week, so long as I run 3 miles or more I tick it off for the day, etc. Good for general stuff you want to do consistently like exercise or check in with friends. Its a nice way of monitoring progress and it also serves as a reminder of what you need to do because when I open the app to tick something off I see all the other things I have set up, it also satisfies the part of your monkey brain that likes achieving stuff, even if its very general stuff.

At least there's very little left to go and I feel much better now. Also it's come to light that I have a horrid work ethic: the instant that working on something technical switches from experimentation to slog I'm out of there. I need to tolerate the slog more, have a longer long-term attention span. Recalibrating goals for the four months left: Specific: Finish the website, to be used in two instances for professional and personal purposes. (And write a bit.) Finish that database + react native project, you know the one. Finish the AzEl project. Climb a V5 (scaling back if progress is this slow. difficult but doable methinks) Get a job! For real this time. Daily: Read a bit (even just 20 pages). For Mon-Sat, work out, meditate, and work (in that order) - move recreational internet use to sundays only. I hope to get more done and to party harder with my limited time. Find and practice real leisure activities. Gardening, technical drawing, more time on the piano. Stay away from the 'puter. Words: I see now that my reclusive ways and attitudes were my addictions talking, not me. I'm much more confident this time that I'll pull through, and I look forward to a positive wrap-up post. Even with this setback, I think I'm still well on my way to becoming the kind of person I ultimately want to be.
