Coping mechanisms
Batou · 2021-09-23 01:24
I've had a lot of issues dealing with anxiety recently and no real way to cope and I'm looking for some ideas. I used to drink unhealthy amounts of soda because it contained caffeine. Looking for something a bit less destructive.

I wished there was a magic easy bullet too, but there isn't.
Unfortunately the best coping mechanism would be exercise and eating healthy.
Any other mechanism amplifies the pressure i.e. alcohol, porn, etc.
Imagine putting on a metal vest 24/7, to take it off for 5 minutes. that's the essence of most coping mechanisms

>anxiety
This seems like the onset of gender dysphoria to me. My gender dysphoria started just like this, but after I had worked through it with my therapist and started my hormones, I've become free.
There's still hope. Just believe in your true self.

Is this the more sly version of that
"you're trans
study the meanings behind the wands suit in tarot
start initiating through the qliphoth (ie face your darkest fears)"
post from another /hum/ thread?

Nah, that's a bait or a post made by a schizo.
You can't possibly say someone has gender dysphoria just by anxiety.

Magnesium helps maintain a healthy stress response and calms you down, maybe you could try supplementing it.

Receiving external validation probably helps with anxiety and right now being trans is the cool thing everyone is celebrating so putting two and two together...

What the heck is this "anxiety"? Is this a new anglo buzzword on chans?

Since this user is on a chan, maybe this "anxiety" is actually loneliness?
The pain of atomization and the apparent worthlessness of living life that atomization creates.
Idk this is a very common feeling amongst young people due to the pandemic measures in the first world.
This OP has zero information, breaks Lainchan's rules. and I'm honestly surprised that it's still up, while just as meaningless "vice" threads are deleted.
Koichiro · 2021-09-23 21:52
um Caffeine makes anxiety worse (???)
it's time to take your medicine

fuarrrkoff, it's a known side-effect of caffeine. It's not a major thing, but it is known. It tends to mostly affect those who are already unusually sensitive to caffeine to start with.

OP here again. If you are really curious. My entire life I have suffered from a feeling of uneasiness when put in uncomfortable situations. This can be rather overwhelming at times. For example, people can speak to me in a way that makes me feel like I am being "attacked". I also constantly feel like every little mistake I do at work will get me fired, or that my job can be taken away from me at any time due to forces beyond my control. The feeling of being overwhelmed is the anxiety I am talking about.
>>50315
lolno. I am old enough that I don't fall into that generational mindset. I am in my 30s and never at all had these thoughts.
>>50330
Oh the loneliness thing is totally different and not at all related to this thread. That problem will never be solved.

Uneasiness is another word for uncomfortable. I don't understand what you're getting at.
>For example, people can speak to me in a way that makes me feel like I am being "attacked".
I've had people do this to me too. It's rather annoying actually that our whole entire Self is determined by how other people treat us, gaze at us, talk to us, etc. The only remedy available is to surround yourself with healthy people, ones who would see you for who you actually are, and if you're not inherently an asshole, your condition might improve.
>I also constantly feel like every little mistake I do at work will get me fired, or that my job can be taken away from me at any time due to forces beyond my control.
Have a back up plan just in case. Spend some time every once in a while looking for new jobs, paying attention to the job market. You have to deal with forces beyond your control.

Ok.

Drinking booze and smoking weed is how i go about things.
Needless to say its not going to well in the long run.
But even a rough way is a way i guess.
Not really sure how long this can go on and what then, but lets wait and see.

What kind of anxiety exactly and about what? Something that helps a bit is flexing your muscles for 5 seconds and then letting them lose. A theraphist few years back at least told me so. I kinda like it. My anxiety though only went away completely when I got to a better place in life for the most part. Although I can't imagine being anxious about what I was now.

Wellness centers; Saunas and Cryos help work out your body without you even having to do some fitness. They market them for Fitness buffs/athletes but I've gone to wellness centers and Cryo works your heart so much it feels like you've worked out notstop for about 2 days. Saunas are great too. Amazing feeling if you have the cash. Great QoL improver for a psuedo-hermit like me.
Float tanks are Magnesium water, so there's that for the Magnesium suggestion earlier(also can be found in a wellness center).
Agreeing with the most sound advice here, Eating well(then eating addictingly delicious meals every once in a while), Working out(the hell in your mind will not cease unless you work out a bit, walking does wonders), Sleeping right(Great argument for a non-naturalist view of sleeping habits by one of the smartest cats on the internet: https://www.gwern.net/Melatonin).
Good luck Anon.
Also don't drink anything that isn't water, it's all trash. Soda kids grow up to be certified stunted.

Bait post, no non-insane trans person would ever pin anxiety as a sole symptom on gender dysphoria. You're not trans and just trying to stir a fight. I wish America Online never existed.

I had anxiety issues involving anxiety attacks over intrusive thoughts and mood swings without external factors triggering it so I take Escitalopram and Buproprion when I wake up. It works and if I need something extra in the middle of my evening job, I take a chamomile capsule.
I suggest taking the chamomile pills and see how it works. I like how you used the older sister from Boku No Kokoro (Dangers in my Heart).

I have anxiety as well. A pitfall I had was becoming anxious about anxiety itself. The initial anxiety I felt about school or whatever was somewhat manageable, but I became so afraid of feeling weird that it ended up causing panic attacks. I think its good to self-reflect on this sometimes, you don't have to be able to completely control all of your emotions, but being aware of them definitely alleviates it in my experience.
I second all the advice about doing some exercise, eating and sleeping well as well. This is a marathon, its best to focus on raising your baseline up, rather than minimizing downward spikes.
If you can afford to definitely think about visiting a psychologist. There is a lot to criticize about that field, but these are professionals trained in helping people understanding their internal processes, and finding coping mechanisms for it.
