Hello lainons. Today I stumbled upon this image while randomly surfing on the net and it shocked me to see every sentence matches what I've been feeling for the last few years. I honestly don't know what to do to fix it and I really need your help. Any advice is appreciated. Let's all love lain.

>>49724 What do you mean "fix it"? Most schizoids don't have any problem with their condition. You want to become normal? To feel loneliness? To be more susceptible to propaganda and emotional manipulation? I don't know why anyone would want that. I wouldn't become neurotypical for anything.

Being a schizoid would mean limiting your experience in life. People are some of the most interesting experiences and some things are funner to do with others than alone. Technically you have an advantage where you should be able to enter relations with others with less attachment than other people so you have nothing to lose but what you gained so no worse off than you started so why not give it a go?

>>49737 I believe other people can somehow pick up on the fact that I will not become attached to them, which causes them to be comfortable talking to me about "deep" topics that would otherwise be reserved for close friends. One group project in college ended up with someone picking my brain and asking me my opinions about everything (God, the State, life, death, etc.) for almost two hours. Another time someone who was in the same class as me sat next to me in the cafeteria and after a few minutes ended up telling me about all of the things that happened to him in his childhood that led to him believing the things he believes (he was not the type of person that just talks about his life to everyone he meets, I have met those kind of people too). I feel like perhaps people who don't know me see me something other than a human, so they are less embarrassed to expose themselves, like how people pour their hearts out to chatbots or ask them questions they wouldn't ask another person. I do not mind this at all however, as I also enjoy discussing ideas with people; the fact that I was able to have a completely candid discussion about things that actually matter and then afterwards I basically never spoke to these people again is the ideal situation for me. Which is why I am here now I suppose. P.S. sorry about missing Part 3 of the comic, I was going to post it later and then I fell asleep lol

>>49740 I've had similar experiences and I'm feeling the same. It's just, does it ever bother you to know that you will never have an intimate relationship with someone else? You can have fun talking with people or discuss interesting topics which you wouldn't be able to otherwise but that's just it. You can't get more from other people. They are merely tools for your own satisfaction or growth. Do you ever think about a fantasy where you could live the most intimate moments of your life with a person you choose and live like nothing happened afterwards? I think even the thought of it is very enticing.

Cutter · 2021-09-04 13:25
>>49748 >Do you ever think about a fantasy where you could live the most intimate moments of your life with a person you choose and live like nothing happened afterwards? That's not a fantasy for me, those two conversations I mentioned were literally the most intimate experiences I have ever had with another person and I have never spoken to either of them since (except for wrapping up the group project in the one case). I have a friend/acquaintance that only talk to over the Internet who comes to me for advice sometimes but I have never felt the same "depth" in all the years I knew him than I did while talking to strangers. >It's just, does it ever bother you to know that you will never have an intimate relationship with someone else? It used to bother me, until I realized that I just wanted the idea of a relationship, not the actual relationship. The experience of warm fuzzy feelings and a person who will always want you sounds nice, but as soon as I started thinking about the practical aspects of it, I lost all interest. I don't want to have to take someone out for dinner, I don't want to have to use emotional energy to try to make sure they are happy and worry about whether they are going to leave me, I don't want to constantly have someone else hanging around (I can just stop talking to someone whenever I want if they are an acquaintance--not so for a wife). Maintaining a relationship just sounds like a gigantic pain in the behind. I had one experience where someone was romantically interested in me and if I even started to think about responding to their feelings I became exhausted. The one aspect of being a schizoid that used to bother me when I became aware of it is that I am not motivated by any of the things that motivate normal people. I cannot find any meaning in a career, starting a family, building wealth, traveling the world, etc. This left me feeling totally aimless, but eventually I realized that my life doesn't have less meaning than others', I am just not satisfied by illusions of purpose. I decided that this is a blessing, as the "false positive" purposes have been filtered out which will make it easier for me to find a true purpose. I am still looking, but I am confident that when I find a purpose, I will know it's a real one because I have never found any comfort in false purposes. >They are merely tools for your own satisfaction or growth. I don't know about this. This sounds more like an antisocial personality disorder kind of perspective. I always appreciate finding people who are unique and interesting for their own sakes, and like to talk with them, although that happens exceedingly rarely.

>>49755 Denial of animal instincts is a uniform skill. I am of the opinion that you can improve your ability to deny stronger instincts by denying weak ones. If you can't overcome your sexual desires yet, try abstaining from candy/dessert or driving in the car on a hot day without turning on the air conditioning (don't get heat stroke though). Try taking cold showers for a specified amount of time. Cognitively, you can also reason with yourself about the reality of what it is that you are desiring, and consider how disgusting sex really is if you think about it. Think about how fleeting the physical pleasure of it will be.
Jim Hilger · 2021-09-04 13:39
>>49755 Well you could try to act on it to realize that is not quite such an uncomplicated purely euphoric ordeal and then it should be less of a motivating desire, romance is marketed as a light hearted universal pleasure but it is in reality quite a heavy subject that involves combining all your pain and suffering with someone elses pain and suffering to create more pain and suffering. That doesn't make it not worthwhile but you should accept that you're gonna have to carry that weight of the pain and suffering if you wish to pursue it. I find once you do it becomes easier to deal with the cognitive dissonance of wanting romance but not acting on it, like it's not like it requires some kind of rare skillset to pursue so... why don't you?

>>49755 Your sexual desire is directly proportional to the time you spend thinking about it. If you want to lose it, simply give yourself a reason to lose it. You can try to do some predefined action every time you start thinking about it. This can be anything that can take your mind off sex. A simple example could be doing 10 push-ups every time you think about it. You can add many more examples. Good luck lain.

>>49764 >I sometimes think that a relationship without emotional burden might be possible with another schizo. I have thought the same way, although it would certainly be an odd relationship. It would be like the porcupine problem but without the desire for warmth that keeps them coming together again. You'd likely have to settle on hovering near each other indefinitely, dispelling the idea that you will ever have some fiery romance. I have not given this too much thought though personally. My criteria for a potential parter (in an abstract sense) are already so unrealistic that I will probably never meet anyone who meets them. If I added "she also has to have Schizoid Personality Disorder" to the mix, that probability would quickly approach 0. >Don't know about you but a lot of people told me that I have huge potential. That's funny, same here. I graduated top of my class in university with a 4.0 GPA (I believe this is mostly due to the fact that I have no hobbies and thus had no distractions from studying, rather than due to me being intelligent); my professors kept telling me that I had the potential to rise to the very top of the industry, but I instead chose the job that required the least number of hours of work possible while still paying enough to live. I simply could not find any purpose in a job, I only chose my career because I was good at it and I needed a source of money to continue to exist without becoming homeless. By working as few hours as possible, I can hopefully devote more time to finding a real purpose. I have started a crusade of sorts in my own life where I am eliminating anything that does not have the potential to contribute to the search for meaning. I quit video games, stopped following politics/news, stopped watching YouTube videos, and deleted all associated accounts so that I couldn't change my mind later. At this point, all I do is do my job, read books, sit and think, and chat on here from time to time. I don't know if this will help or not, but sitting around playing video games all day certainly wasn't helping, so it can't hurt. Godspeed to you too.

>>49815 The nature/nurture question is rarely fully understood for any mental health conditions; generally, they say that a condition starts with a genetic "seed" that predisposes you to develop the condition, but then a certain set of environmental conditions need to be met to "activate" it. There are schizophrenics, for example, whose parent had schizophrenia but they think they got genetically lucky and didn't get schizophrenia--then when they are like 25-30, something happens to them and their latent schizophrenia develops and they start having delusions. The nature/nurture issue is generally the same for schizoid personality disorder (henceforth SPD). You are far more likely to develop SPD if you have other mental illnesses, or if mental illnesses are common in your family. I have seen a study that shows that if you grow up around a schizophrenic (NOT a schizoid), the probability of having SPD skyrockets. Hypotheses suggest that the closing off from others caused by SPD can be a self defense mechanism against the irrational/incomprehensible behavior of others in youth. I can say that I personally was always a fairly shy child, but I was quite open with my emotions and I had friends that I wanted to spend time with. In hindsight, I think my SPD started to take effect sometime in high school. It's hard to say exactly when, since I was surrounded by people every day, but I stopped going over to other people's houses and I experienced the exhaustion at thinking about romantic relationships that I mentioned previously. Then it was full blown when I reached college (so, ~20). So that was a long way of saying, yes, it can arise later on and almost always does. I don't think SPD is generally ever observed in pre-adolescents (except for minor traits in hindsight).

>>49729 I have a hard time thinking being "anti-social" is mentally ill. The majority of people are degenerate, superficial assholes with little to no impulse control. Why would you want to be social with people like this? To top it off, in order to appear "interesting" and "stand out", people pretend to care about a subject matter. Why waste time trying to pick out people who are not like this? Especially when there is a genuinely high chance that that person who genuinely does care about the subject matter, only cares about that one thing, and still engages in degenerate, superficial behavior outside of that very particular environment. I think I will pass and opt-in to being "anti-social".
XERXES · 2021-09-06 13:38
>>49828 I suspect that the notable increase in SPD is caused by factors you mentioned. As I mentioned in an earlier post, it appears that exposure to schizophrenic and other incomprehensible behaviors in childhood is a strong predictor of SPD. Well, why should that be limited to family members? As society becomes increasingly schizophrenic and overly emotional, as it expects you to hold two contradictory beliefs at the same time, how could there not be an increase in SPD? I don't consider it to be an illness either, and most schizoids do not desire "treatment".

I don't buy schizoid being a positive thing, although I would probably consider it more positive than the people who do nothing but socialize. A healthy medium would be to be independent enough to not be dependent on others while still benefiting from social relationships. For clarity I wouldn't call myself schizoid but I have a lot of the criteria and abnormally low social drive, the fact of the matter is that many of the cool things you do and experience in life are due to exchanging ideas and working alongside others. You will never accomplish as much in most pursuits as a hermit as you would as someone with a network of capable and like minded peers. Being asocial is being cursed with mediocrity.

The proof of a normal is in the fact that s/he has successfully forged a personal meaning in spite of the psychologically hostile environment of modern day society and that s/he can cope with possible adversities and, if necessary, adjust his or her behaviour accordingly, so as to retain or attain a sense of positive progression to his or her life: in whatever s/he is engage in, s/he experiences it as meaningful, and which furthers his or her pursuit of agency (power) and/or intimacy (love). Sure, because the notion of a "normal" is so broad, there are necessarily people who perceive any kind of dissatisfaction as a "brain disorder", like you put it, but from my experiences that is hardly the case for the vast majority of them. People cope with soykafty life events either with or without doctor-prescribed tranquilizers, but these days you see more of the former due to the readiness of doctors in prescribing drugs to people, which in turn has to do with the health system incentivizing cost-effectiveness (money as well as time) and the influence of materialist philosophies in psychiatric care.

Perhaps anons should start using Jabber or IRC or even the bloated Matrix more often, to rant about this soykaf or just think, dunno.

I don't really qualify for any of the traits in the thread, (At least I think...) but I do have a friend that presents all of them. He feels in an odd spot tho. Saying that he wants some sort of relationship, while still wanting to be completely alone. Any other schizoid feeling the same way sometimes? And, for the schizoid that do have friends, how do you want them to act around you? Or, rather what kind of friend you like? My recluse likes that I'm very understanding of him and not clingy like most. (I prefer being on my own alot of the time.)

>>51812 >Its a natural consequence of profit seeking pharma It's a natural consequence of not paying your doctor. If a service is free then you are the product.
Case · 2021-11-05 21:33
>>52008 do you... think that people don't pay for medical care?
Fred Nurk · 2021-11-06 00:21
>>52009 Daily reminder basically all 1st world countries have free healthcare.
Ein · 2021-11-06 00:39
>>52009 >>52016 It's not free. You get a mandatory tax masked as health insurance but you don't get everything paid at will. You aren't making any choice, you cant get any product you wish for free, you get one preselected product for free and you have to pay out of pocket for the alternative. Because people don't pay they stop watching the pricing so pharma can lie in bed with "free" healthcare and make backdoor deals to prescribe you more expensive crap which naturally goes back to higher insurance costs for you. In the end you pay for the willful ignorance of the public believing the "free" meme.

>>52024 And the sky is constantly falling too in these countries, right?
Tank · 2021-11-06 12:41
>>52033 The point is you've disconnected doctors from market forces so they can't get ahead by providing better service to patients. The government/insurance pays the same regardless of how happy the patient is. So the only way to make more money is to abuse your privileged position to push pills for pharma.
Agent Jones · 2021-11-06 13:06
>>52024 There is no disconnecting things, everything people do is accounted for and costs money, even if someone doesnt pay for it directly. The economy is virtual, moneyflow is means to strengthen institutions. Every monetary action feeds back into banks, governments, insurances and 1000s other crap down the line that nobody but the blood sucking parasites need. Everything, even and especially charity is not only reselling a product but advertising it too. Its not secret the pharma mafia created a culture in which being healthy is being sick, look at how many people are on medication and its considered normal. Freshly picked herbs are free, some pills with fuarrrk knows whats in them given to you are not free, even if you dont pay for it.

>>52033 It actually is. The citizen are getting poorer by the decade and right now inflation is massive. All you showcase is your inability to process you aint in paradise.

>>52055 I know this might be hard for Americans to understand, but in civilized countries, we don't go to the doctor to ask for this and that pill or drug, like you all do with your Percosets. I think your autism is cause you to just assume every other country is like your failed soykafhole of a country and apply those same soykafhole health standards to other countries, 'but with a social service twist'. >>52062 Where I live, there is an overabundance of energy products the world is desperately demanding. My economy is currently laughing its way to the banks getting rich! Knowing that American conservatives are both effectively paying me while they are salty is just the cherry on top!

>>52016 And High Speed Rail. I hate this supposedly free country at times. We have driving culture, but we do not yet have High Speed Rail culture i would not mind a hybrid system of both here. Sadly the only excuse we have is because of expenses or stabbings and crime could happen which is rare. If we could get one thing of High Speed Rail or even Free Health care in a few states. More people would suddenly adopt it. People here are hesitant to try anything new or even to have High Speed rail because it's foreign and they have not tried it. But i have with High Speed rail and it's amazing even cheap like 5$ to get from one railstation to the other, and you do not need to pay again if you have to take the train the opposite way because you missed a stop. >>52081 >in civilized countries, we don't go to the doctor to ask for this and that pill or drug, like you all do with your Percosets Not that lainanon. But we do have something that is quasi like this with medicaid/medicare were we just look stuff up in a magazine and order it. It's high quality stuff. Sadly we do not have Percosets, Marijuana or fun stuff in it, but it would be nice if we did. >Where I live, there is an overabundance of energy products the world is desperately demanding. Do not end up like Venezuela which made a mistake on using one energy source to sell to the world rather than selling multiple things like fruits, drinks etc to sell in marketplaces and diversify the portfolio.

>>52081 >i dont go to doc for pills Makes no fuarrrkin sense. Doc needs to tell you what to get or do you self medicate? Doubt you live in such a enlightened place that everyone is a expert in medicine. And if you go to doc and then get your prescription you do exactly what was stated before. Secondary you confuse country with people. Just cause your country got resources doesn't mean you will benefit from it. Germans are among the poorest people in eu despite the country ranking top. Why? Cause the money is concentrated in corporations not citizen.
Marly Krushkhova · 2021-11-06 19:44
>>52087 >muh high speed rail You might want to read a thing or two about unions. You can't just fire people because you want to deploy new technology that makes their skills useless. That would be capitalism.
Random · 2021-11-07 05:53
That sounds so generic lol I'm definitely anxious about my loneliness, so I guess it doesn't apply to me. I don't know, from my useless lack of experience I guess you can try to tackle whatever you feel is affecting you the most.

Honestly I suspect that the OP is what we call a S H I L L, as he seems to fit the profile: >omgomgomg guys I think I have this, here, lemme conveniently post a list of generic symptoms, go taek ur meds this is totally not sponsored content

>>49724 Don't worry about random medical descriptions you find online lain, self diagnosis isn't healthy and often inaccurate. If you're really worried then you could see a doctor if you wanted.
