Finally I decide to put it in words, Lainons. Now I am trying to increase the serotonin in my brain by exercise. I did some research through both scientific articles and academic papers. It seems most of these research suggest the
physical exercise could help brain to produce more serotonin, which is important in improving the negative emotions like depression and anxiety.
I do realize the most efficient way to do so is taking medicine that usually work as the Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI). But my situation does not allow me to do so. The cost of seeing a psychologist and getting these
medicines is far out of my budget. In the meantime, I am trapped in a suck country where the medical system is suck, especially in this lockdown season...
I'll keep updating my new status in this thread. Ask me any questions and I'd like to answer if I can still access this board. Finally, please forgive my bad english, which is not my first language.

are there any other methods to increase serotonin?, where did you do your research?
Undisclosed · 2021-08-24 07:57
Well you didnt do enough research. Serotonin theory of depression has never been proven. Some evidence against it is how SSRIs never work immediately. It used to be believed when you exercise for example to get a "runners high" that endorphines are what gets you high but it's now leaning more toward endocannabinoids. Exercise regularly also helps the prefrontal cortex. That isn't to say regular aerobic exercise wont help mood but it likely works through a different more complicated mechanism than you describe. I should note anaerobic exercise may induce anxiety so don't overwork. The reason for this is some people are sensitive to PH changes in their body and aerobic exercise can cause more acidity after enough time has gone by. You also should look into cold water therapy since that is pretty easy to do just combine it with the unrelated Wim Hoff method so you don't get bothered by the cold so much. You also need to look at your diet making sure you are getting enough nutrition. I also suggest avoid fluoride and replacing with nanohydroxyapetite or theobromine or some other enamel protecting alternative but if those are too pricey where you live and for your budget just avoid fluoridated water to drink and rinse with fluoride but never swallow. Also of course most important is just looking at your environment if anything in your life is making you feel bad and what can you do about it.

human contact is enough to push it, saw once a paper linking frequent contact with higher iq development for babies because constant contact = more serotonin.

Thank you for the suggestion. Actually I have taken SSRI (fluoxitine) 10 years ago and it really worked. But I agree, the effect of exercise may be happened in a different way. I'll keep on doing exercise and monitoring my situation (mostly the mood).
Also thank you for providing so many valuable information. I always do the aerobic exercise (jogging) and control the total amount of it. I'll also do some research in cold water therapy. It is not easy to change my environment currently because of some irresistible situations so that is why I find other ways to deal with my problem.

Google Scholar (but yes I've read very few papers)

Hi Lainons. It is my third day of physical exercise. I feel a little better now. My mood is more under control than before. But I need to keep on going with this experiment. My exercise is mainly jogging ( maybe will add some muscle training in future). I've planned the amount of working out according to my age and health situation. My heart rate is controlled under 140/minutes and running distance are around 5 kilometers. Too much exercise should be avoid.
IDK if it is placebo effect, and what exactly happened in my brain, but fortunately, it seems work. I am a little optimized than before on my goal of returning to the track without relying on the medicine.

Good job! I'm a calisthenics guy rather than jogging but can confirm it has helped me greatly (I've also lost a good amount of weight, though that's likely due to changing my diet too and I'm still chubby). You're right to not overdo it, though don't let yourself use that as an excuse to not work, it's a tough balancing act. Overall though great job and keep going!

SSRIs require a few weeks to work is what I said. If serotonin was all there was they should work with the first pill. So they actually worked through some unknown mechanism if they do work beyond placebo which there is info going both ways there. Another thing to ad you could channel your feelings by keeping a journal or making art or singing something that lets you express yourself. It helps placing your feelings with proper labels to describe them which there has been studies behind this. Having a good consistent sleep routine also is helpful which avoiding screen time before bed helps. Different people require different amount of sleep some it's 7 some 10 hours. If you wake up middle of night for a couple hours dont worry that's actually how people slept before the invention of electricity. Avoid sleeping pills but occasionally melatonin is fine if you need help resetting your body clock just dont take large amounts it has a counterproductive effect. Best position to sleep is on your side because that's best for cerebral spinal fluid to flush your brain of buildup of amylase and likewise. Laying on your right side is possibly better than left if you have problems with nightmares. Once you wake up expose yourself to the sunlight to help your body wake up and set your rhythm in. You could also give mindfulness meditation a go a little tip i find meditation easiest after exercise.

Unless exercise is painful to you and causes anxiety and depression and anger. Plantar fasciitis and the heat of FL keep me pretty grounded. I walk around anyway to avoid having more and more pills put into me as a patch but it's awful. It's not like they give people opiates anymore and so I just writhe in my sleep when I get plantar fasciitis and I'm a neet and so I can't afford to go to the pool and even if I did that it'd be awkward as hell. Controlling your breathing aside I'd feel far too watched.

Unless human contact is painful to you and causes anxiety and depression and anger. Normalhomos are bad people but I do get the point. As it is you can't choose to have a nice social life and the implication that lonely people can't be smart is actually insulting by the by. Perhaps the majority, of whom are sheep, are setting the standard for what is to be considered intelligent in this day and age ergo if you have no friends no one agrees with your logic. Otherwise I'd be reading a real study on it right now.

lonely is just a state of mind. You can be alone without being lonely.
That aside this was for baby stage where brain development is most affected- it doesn't matter what you do in adult life for this nor would you have any negative inclination for contact as a newborn. And affects is not determines - its just another factor. I found it interesting because it means putting the baby in cribs away from parents made people dumber on average.

Slavery is a state of mind too, but telling someone that that's black will still piss them off in the exact same way that saying that you are lonely when literally married will piss off an even more lonely imageboard user.
But yes, people are indeed awful anyway.
About infant humans, trashy people that let their babies self soothe when the baby is designed to get attention through crying will obviously cause damage to the animal. That and some trashy human that'd do it probably has both bad nature and nurture going for them in general that will harm the child later on even more.

>If you wake up middle of night for a couple hours dont worry that's actually how people slept before the invention of electricity.
Can you elaborate on that and where you found that information? Do you mean waking up for a couple of hours and then going back to sleep?

SSRIs are poison. They require a few weeks to start really giving you brain damage.

Now It has been a week since I started my exercise plan. In general I am quite satisfied with my current status, but still need some further improvement.

Thank you for the encouraging. I also have some problem with my body shape, but with exercise maybe I can get both physical and self-esteem improvement.

> Another thing to ad you could channel your feelings by keeping a journal or making art or singing something that lets you express yourself.
Brilliant suggestion! In fact, I always want to writing something. Although I have an idea to work on my own fiction book for a long time, but I haven't gotten an opportunity to start working on it. Maybe I can practice writing from recording a journal, and send it here (or lainzine?). English is not my first language but I will try to use English so that it can be read by more people.
> Once you wake up expose yourself to the sunlight ...
That is really a problem with me. I am living in a tiny apartment with out any direct sunshine. Perhaps I could get up earlier and go for a walk every morning.
---
Think about myself. My pressure may be lead by two reasons. 1. I was failed to find a job here for quite a long time, and I am running out of money. Due to the shutdown of bussinesses by government, it become more difficult. 2. I was from a suck country and now I'm trapped in another suck country (a little suckless). My visa does not allow me to access any welfare in this country.
Anyway, I am trying to learn more and find a job position here or in another country, maybe. Bless myself.

hey lain, just so you know there are a lot of alternate ways of getting ssri. i'm in the united states and instead of going to a doctor for $200 or whatever bullshit, i just use an online doctor (it's like $50) for an appointment through video chat and then go to the pharmacy to get my ssri's. if you're in europe, near mexico, or near asia, theree are many countries that sell ssri's over the counter and don't paywall them like the US does (which is stupid because they'll always give them to you if you ask for them).
