Brainrot

Ishikura "Tatsu" Tatsuhiko · 2021-08-04 17:21
I have spent so much time on the internet, digging into various rabbit holes that I now feel like I am actually incapable of holding any kind of relationship with at least 75% of the population. Not by lack of trying, but because I am just used to an impossibly higher standard. I just made a new acquiantance actually unironically cry just by trying to have a normal discussion with them. It was half small-talk and I even said to myself "okay I will take it nice and easy, no controversial opinions or big truths for now" but even my very mild opinions are apparently unbearable for normal people. Wtf how do I mask this soykaf.
Boris Grishenko · 2021-08-04 18:13
>>48297 What were those mild opinions? I think the problem is not, that you hold certain beliefs, but that you haven't learnt how to hide your Power level. What I learnt is, that most political opinions should not be expressed, and discussions, if you need to have them with new acquaintances, should not be held without first obtaining a better picture of the person. You need to be the one in control, carefully poking and observing, all the while coming across as totally relaxed and not forced or anything. Let them open up a bit, and reveal what kind of views they have. >Inb4 psychopath I am not willing to risk losing social standing, being seen as an extremist, and potentially getting prison time.
Bobby Newmark · 2021-08-04 18:22
>>48297 >Meet a girl >Go on a first date >Mostly small talk >Mentioned that I lived for a year in California >"I always wanted to visit Cali." >"I'm never setting foot there again." >"Why?" >Mention their decriminalization of theft >Mention their decriminalization to knowingly transmit HIV to others >She was shocked >Pulled out phone and showed her news articles Lately, I've been trying to feign ignorance when with others, but it feels like it's too much work.
The Oracle · 2021-08-04 18:31
I have a friend who will no longer discuss particular topics with me. We only catch up on the phone a few times a year, we're still close friends, but to be honest our conversations feel extremely watered down now because my position on the matter is too removed from her own. Neither of us will change our mind on this (retarded) point, but our friendship also goes deeper at least than this disagreement so I haven't been thrown in the trash over it. You find ways to talk about life without breaching the "forbidden territory." Ridiculous, but that's compromise.
Lord Nikon · 2021-08-04 18:54
>>48300 What annoys me is theres so much soykaf now i cant even remember everything. I knew what you wrote beforehand but had already forgotten overshadowed by newer bad news
Apoc · 2021-08-04 19:15
>>48297 First of all, stop being a narcissist, other than that...look, there's this life rule that normal people implicitly understand and internalize, it says "you can be right or you can be happy". A conversation is not a social media discussion, it's not about winning or losing, and you're not an internet video pundit trying to own people. Listen to what the other person has to say and do your part in making the conversation an enjoyable experience to the both of you. Be empathetic and you'll have a good time with most people.
Mentat · 2021-08-04 20:40
>>48297 I do not hide my weirdness, I actually LARP as a mad scientist. I talk to people about my hypotheses and scientific stuff and they seem to like it. Those who don't like it are not worth talking to in the first place.
Masami Eiri · 2021-08-04 20:44

>>48299 He said he was gay and I said smtn akin to gay people had it better in the 90s (again, tried to be nice and friendly) and he said his coworkers are really nice and supportive, so I told him that anyone who pretends to be actually nice to lgbt people only does so as a charade, they only act nice to you like they act nice to a handicapped person and the second you turn around or do something that annoys them they will say what they really think of you and it is not nice. He just looked down on the floor after that and then excused himself to go to the bathroom and I heard him sob there. >>48304 But like I am not retarded, I am not some pocket preacher who tries to spread cosmic truth every chance I get, I just have normal discussion on normal topics but then I see other people talk about it and my opinion is just completely drastically uncomparably different (mild example, me and a couple coworkeres were talking about their favorite movies, and they were namig stuff like mission impossible, shrek, etc meanwhile I do not even remember the last time I watched a movie that was in english or made after 1970). Like am I supposed to just flat out lie in every conversation? I usually try to say what I consider to be a watered down, socially acceptable version of my opinion (Not only will gay people go to hell but they will also suffer tremendous mental and physical torture during their life if they continue such lifestyle -> I think that, even if you are gay, you should at least try to be straight, cause you may be beaten on a street or accidentally catch HIV). The problem is that people sometime take offence with the watered down opinion too and like I just dont know how to water it down twice lol.
John Rain · 2021-08-04 21:45
>>48312 >i'm gay, my co-workers are nice to me >yes, but actually no. holy soykaf anon, i didn't know what to expect, but you still managed to exceed my expectations i didn't know i had. >i just don't know how to water it down twice lol. Again, hiding your power level. Yes, if you cannot participate in a conversation normally, you have to either lie outright, or not participate at all. it sounds like an invitation to a life of lies, but that's just how it is. Holding any opinion in the current climate other than "LGBT good, Gun bad, climate change real, women good, men bad" is practically an invitation to get cancelled with a molotov to your property.
Drifter · 2021-08-04 21:51
>>48313 Well I mean that is just great, no? Lie about everything, lie your life away. I am not really one of those sociopaths who would sell their souls for a better job or poisition, I just wanna have normal discussions with people and its pointless to have those if you just lie.
Y.T · 2021-08-04 23:07
>>48314 I mean it depends, at work you shouldn't even really expect to form a deep, lasting relationships with a co-worker, and you shouldn't really expect it to get "deep". You're only cooperating with them so you can get your pay-cheque, and this is intuitive. Other people do not care what you personally believe in this situation, and it makes things worse when you say what you actually believe, ruins group morale and makes others dread being forced to "cooperate" with you. The best bet, if you would like to hold on to your "individuality", is to avoid politics all together, or if it's brought up agree shallowly or listen to what is told to you, without saying your own thoughts, or challenging the other person. >>48312 >I told him that anyone who pretends to be actually nice to lgbt people only does so as a charade It should be an intuitive mental process to understand that you shouldn't say something like this at your workplace, you've especially made him cry...how does that look to your manager, boss, other co-workers? They may even agree with your opinion, but dread the heavy interpersonal dynamics that you are creating with your behaviour. Stirring soykaf up because you want to be "special" in the worst possible place.
Dr. X · 2021-08-05 00:11
>>48315 I think you misunderstand, I do not talk politics or such in the workplace, I just keep to myself when the topic steers in such direction, what I said to that guy was completely independt of work. In work we usually talk about, like, entrainment, some current even that are not necessarily political, etc, but even about them I have trouble to talk without saying something questionable And again, I do not even want to be special, all I want is to get the opinions of others on a certain topic cause then I can form a more cohesive picture about it than I could do myself, but like these people are just on a completely different planet. Like imagine you were a student in university and had to take a class called "elementary math" where you would be taugh multiplication and addition with the upmost seriousment, and if you dare use a method of addition that the teacher had not taught you or say smtn along the lines of "but why the fuarrrk do I have to take such a boring pointless class?" you would get severely reprimanded. >>48316 I find that the best way to truly make people go nuclear is just to tell them something they will "never have/be". It is the reasons trannies get so pissed off when you tell them they will never be real women. But it really works for almost anyone. For example, you can tell an autist a billion offensive things and he will barely care, you tell him he will never have a fulfilling friendship with anyone because he cannot even pretend to care about what others try to talk to him about him and he will just completely implode. Tried it before too, was funny, guy almost broke my nose.

>>48304 > narcissist you mean self-exaggerated bragging . no , OP seems rather sincere . I agree about empathy . ppl often do not mean exactly what they say . promises of the Internet the main issue for many anons prly comes from the fact we expect the world to change very significantly more than most ppl find comfortable .

>>48312 >I told him that anyone who pretends to be actually nice to lgbt people only does so as a charade, they only act nice to you like they act nice to a handicapped person So basicly you told him that no one likes him and everyone is taking pity of him. You also suggested that if you will be nice to him then thats not because you like him or anything. All that based on a label that he is a homosexual after probably a few minutes of talk not knowing that person at all. Yeah, very mild opinion indeed.
Leto Atreides I · 2021-08-05 10:53
>>48312 >anyone who pretends to be actually nice to lgbt people only does so as a charade, they only act nice to you like they act nice to a handicapped person and the second you turn around or do something that annoys them they will say what they really think of you and it is not nice. Sad but true, imo its respectable you dont eat up the narrative, most people who are "open and tollerant", just are because they are expected to. Its a sad state of afairs that someone would cry about it, but this is the bitter truth. >>48313 >Holding any opinion in the current climate other than "LGBT good, Gun bad, climate change real, women good, men bad" is practically an invitation to get cancelled with a molotov to your property. Exactly, this is a war not a debate. People have done all sorts of things over far less, dont be deluded into thinking most people want the truth, they would rather like go with a popular narrative and defend it, even with violent methods. Youre lucky if the just "cancel" you out and not call swat on you or antifa torches your car. >>48314 You dont need to live a lie, but you need to be careful who you talk to and about what, youre lucky the guy sobed and didnt behead you right away. Some people are not receptive to some truths, you need to carefully map out who to you can say what. You may be suprised at the depth of topics you can have with certain people if you can find that sweetspot, but it takes a lot of probing and carefully feeling out where you hit a nerve.
BloodCat · 2021-08-05 11:23
>>48326 Well obviously the conversation was a lot longer and I am not gonna write out everything, but what I was trying to convey is that people who are very nice and supportive towards lgbt people actually do not give a soykaf, perhaps they do not even have bad intentions (I mean if I help a disabled person I do not immediately think omg what a freak haha) but if he pisses them off or others are badmouthing you then that person will join without even thinking about it. I guess I should have made it a little clearer (I aluded to it when I said gay people had it better in the 90s) that if people openly tell you something like "I know you are gay, dont put it in my friends and we can get on" then you know what to expect from that person, hell to an extent, I would even bet that they could end up being a better "friend" for the gay person rather than the super liberal "omg youre gay youre like so heckin valid xp" which is what he said his coworkers are like. >>48327 Well but that is what I asked in the first post you know, if even my tamer, more milder opinions are enough to take people into a frenzy, then how do I even know what I am allowed to say? I do not even go out of my way to try and be controversial unless I know I can, but things I consider to be completely unordinary opinions that most people also hold are apparently considered unbearably "whatever" by most people. Like sometimes I genuinely do not know which is which, when I told him that I thought it was something everyone knows and acknowledges and that I am just reminding him, I did not know he genuinely thought the people were as nice as they seemed
Eldon Tyrell · 2021-08-05 12:24
>>48327 >most people who are "open and tollerant", just are because they are expected to. >most Do you have some kind of statistic to back this up? I for instance don't give a flying rats ass about someone's orientation. It's there business as long as they don't hurt anyone else. This is a example of being open and tollerant not because I'm expected to but because I understand other people can have different needs/opinions/believes and I'm OK with that. Not all people need to think like me.

Been there done that. Seen different people like us have different type of solutions to varying success. My seems to work for me. Basically I use empathy as a main premise of my relationship with others which is how I got into a lot of friendships with a lot of vastly different people. Give other people what they need in discussions, even if you can't provide 100% what they want. Give them a solution without pushing it, give them an active listener when they need to lay out their feelings, give them a proactive questioning guy when they are brainstorming stuff and be generally an easy going guy. Don't force anything, don't withold anything and don't lie about anything. Basically own yourself and do it with pose and grace. You and your opinions will express themselves with how you treat yourself and others.

Having a list of forums and boards (maybe, even more specific, with subboards that interest you) can make it easier to stay in a climate that is beneficial to discussion. I frequent a few /k/ subboards, and also some tech boards. Sometimes I look into alternative boards, and on Lainchan I mostly look through the mega board, as the site is slow in general, so I don't run the risk of losing my favourite thread to sliding. Also, stay the fvck off social media, except for trolling campaigns or dabbing on normalf4gs.

i have the same problem, but there are two sides to the issue. On the one hand yes, it is not probable that most people will not have the deep interest in topics that you have. But on the other hand the majority of people don't care about ANYTHING. It's netflix all the way down. It's almost as if growing as a person is not something that most people are interested in. As far as we know, this could be your ONLY shot at life, and its just mind boggling to me that people are not interested in knowing what its all about, or making the little time that we have worthwhile. There is a double edged sword to the chans also. They are certainly addictive, but at the same time the little gems of thought and information that you occasionally get by sifting through the soykaf is invaluable.

>>48312 OP, you shouldn't be dishonest. Being dishonest will just lead you to feel alone even when you're surrounded by people, because they won't connect to you on a personal level. That being said, you sound both insufferable and retarded, no offense meant. Insufferable because you can't help but steer the conversation in a direction that will allow you to spit out anecdotes as facts regardless as to if anyone would be interested at all, and retarded because what you said isn't even true and falls apart under scrutinity. Now, the nuances of homosexuality are off topic so I'm not interested in going too deep into that. But do consider the following: you're american, you're from California, you (as you said so yourself) are brainrotren by what I can only assume (and pardon me if I'm wrong) is radicalized schizo propaganda. If you really think about it, your opinions are more likely what some form of media regurgitated to you, or the direct opposite of what that media regurgitated to you (a natural reaction if you feel hostilized). Prejudice happen because of small sample sizes. You don't have too many biases, you have too few. What I suggest is that you forget everything you were ever taught and do your own reexamination of your beliefs: why they are the way they are, where did they come from, are they even verifiable as truth or are they merely instinctual? Be introspective, be willing to change. Meet other people, listen to them, try to understand them. And don't give in to easy answers that don't explain anything: "this person is just too far gone", or perhaps something happened in their lives that led them to be that way. As long as you assume people arround you are fundamentally different and that you're in some way correct or exceptional for not holding the status quo good-boy opinions, you already lost. You won't listen to them, they will just be a narrative to fuel your pre established biases. Try to understand people above all whether you agree or sympathyze with them or not and be willing to change your beliefs.
