Travel

Hi Lainchan. I currently live in South America but recently decided to go to Iceland and work in a fishing boat. I believe that can be a great experience as a self-discovery travel. Nevertheless, I don't have any clue about how to make it. What do you advise me to do? or maybe someone who has done something similar can share his experience, please?

How do you image to travel on a fishing boat? You will be stuck on a swimming prison. You do that for money not for entertainment.

In all seriousness I have no experience to share but I feel like it wont be easy to get a job in some fishing vessel in the smallest Nordic nation, close knit to the point of them having an app that keeps track of whether getting in a relationship with someone might be incestuous, without having experience in the field or contacts in the country.

contact companies and ask them if they support work visas. Find People who do this work on facebook and ask them. I feel you won't be able to do it because, no training, no language ability, probably isn't in need of workers. but you could probably do it in a less then reputable country, for soykaf wage and hard life.

if you want self-discovery Lain , go experience African spiritualism . Ubuntu means you can move freely through-out the continent receiving hospitality . ask locals to help you find your other half .

>>48203 thats a myth, its just a relative finder app, its a joke that people use it to see if their date is their cousin. >>48238 or he could do his own thing? go for it dude. contact people on fb, get a ticket, turn up and ask. make it happen!

I know two dudes in Ireland who did the fishing thing, it's not great money (really depends on the catch, you get paid based on %) and you can get screwed real easy by the captain if you're new. Also this might depend on the country but normally crews tend to be international i.e. even on a small fishing boat you might get 5 south east asian people, 2 irish, 1 icelandic, etc. They might not speak english at all. Just things to keep in mind. If you want to escape south america for a while I recommend either looking for work and travel visas, countries like Ireland and Germany have programs set up with governments you can apply for, you get a 6 month visa normally that allows you to work and you get paid enough in euros to then backpack in the EU. Or you can apply for a study visa, which in Ireland allows you to work part time, and you can make more money through deliveroo being paid cash in hand by someone renting their account. In general I'd recommend checking on FB for <your nationality> in <country> groups and seeing what's the deal. It really depends on your situation, in general your plan should be * get $$ to pay for the tickets + initial stay in the country until you find a job (iceland is super expensive, keep in mind) * understand work arrangements - do you need a work visa? do you have EU citizenship/can apply to one? can you enter the country under a temp work permit like seasonal farm workers do? * where are jobs being posted?

>>48344 Also re: the experience, this dude in Ireland, he literally just showed up to the port (since he lived in a fishing town) and asked for work. Captains don't mind noobs, but you'll be getting a smaller share of the catch.

I repeat gender politics in Iceland should frighten any transhumanist . I do not trust their acceptance of trans-identities , or more-over the acceptance of empathetic machines . I would like to know more about the relationship Icelandic culture has to the Hyperborean myth for comfort . if a sense of sacred exists there , I question trust in fore-bearers of the myth . that requires studies on Inuit and Siberian culture , both currently quite shrouded in mystery .

I ask you how did you manage to do this, because I also want to do this. It should be a hardcore job, friend. Good experience sailing a boat in the middle of ice with foreign speaking sea men, you would work like a fuarrrking slave, lol.

fuarrrking zооmers on this website, I swear. You seem to have no idea how immigration works. Unless you have a marketable skill that Iceland needs or are married to an Icelandic citizen, you will never be allowed to stay as anything more than a tourist for a very limited amount of time. Your infantile fantasy will always remain such.

>>48363 Most people in Norway and Sweden can also speak english fluently. Maybe the oldest generation wouldn't but yeah, very difficult to find non english speaking people there. Only country where it would be a bit harder would be Finland.
