MIKA' SYNDROM

ALFA · 2021-07-21 16:08
Hi Lainons. I know this board from its very beginning but I didn't post for the last few years. I Have a very serious question, a real life one. Please I beg you to stick to the topic and to answer a serious way, because this is very important for me. Maybe some lainon answer will help me in Real Life. Who knows. Here is the center of the issue: I used to be more "nolife" than my RL Brother, but , after he finished his studies (engineer studies, R&D) he failed at finding a job quickly. Result is a is now jobless for 6 years and spend all his time on videos games and internet. Me and my family try to help him but he really turned asocial and we failed at changing this situation. I tried everything. How could I find something to help him find motivation and stop to escape in the virtual. He really looks like MIKA (lain sister) and it makes me sad. In real life I got a very good job but I cannot help him (like hiring him or so) and he is absolutely in an autistic state of mind Did you ever live a similar situation? Ty by advance

I never had this experience . I only know the self-talk with pro-social effects . I would try to share morals about the outside world periodically . stimulate that curiosity . not for cliche things , but things to genuinely feel curious about , like how society might react to weirdness . I would walk from one city to another , due to weird morals about buses & cars .

The problem is really deep, he is in an absolute state of mind block. Unless I destroy computer and the fuarrrking internet connection, and parents stop to feed him it wont change, Iam afraid. This is the last option, I don't want to go this way, also my parents wont go this way, Case is extrem

>>47844 How intelligent is he? Is he an average guy or a failed crazy scientist? Force him to do some free online courses.
ALFA · 2021-07-21 16:54
He is a good engineer with good studies, he used to be smart and on an engineer studies scale I would call his engineer school and diploma "mid+" level I tried to force him to try to learn 3d modeling and coding (I used to code and do 3D modeling and still receiving royalties from my past work), I also own a 3d printer But I failed at convincing him teaming together. I know this is extremly bad situation, I waited for many years and tried everything. This is a first time iam asking publicly some advice I though about lainons because iam sure you would understand

>>47849 I think he needs a therapy, finding a good therapist can be hard though. He probably thinks he's useless and that he's in the worst possible scenario ... or he enjoys being a NEET but I doubt it. He's likely addicted to the internet at this point, this makes the situation more difficult to solve. Also, was he passionate about his studies? If nothing works, your parents should tell him to find a job or fuarrrk off, he either gets back on track or decides to end his life.

>therapy lold, shrink gonna brainwash him or what? Pretty easy to see what happened. Dude peaced out cause he doesnt want to settle for mcd job after getting a degree and he isnt forced to settle for minwage to survive since parents apparently supply. Now if you werent such a turbo autist you wouldnt suggest soykaf nobody will do. Instead op should go for the midway - if he wants to neet fine but do it on gov welfare. So get him settled in his own home so he can be a proper jobless dropout and start collecting welfare instead of sitting on parents pocket.

>>47851 Yes therapy, it sometimes helps people, especially if they lack the motivation to change their lives by themselves. I know it's hard to believe for self-proclaimed internet individualists. Also your response is not serious, OP asked for serious responses while you said "there's no problem, lol".

Thanks roger you analysed it well. A lot of EU countries are in the same situation; too many people with high level diplomas and no jobs. It forces people to accept lower level jobs And often do lead them to depression or they do collapse. I participate in jobs interviews in my company Employers are very picky, basis employees are more often depressed and lack of motivation it is a real hell to manage them daily The whole occidental society is really hard nowadays This might lead to more and more hikkikomoris and so on
Delilah · 2021-07-21 19:12
>>47853 I offered a serious realistic solution - move him out and put him on regular welfare. This will not only relieve parents but also force some autonomy on him. Your therapy meme has a high fail rate and is likely even to fail at the initial stage of getting a shrink because they are overcrowded thanks to lockdown making everyone mental so they are now focusing on more serious cases first.

>>47844 >Did you ever live a similar situation? I currently do. Job market I originally studied for first crashed in my country, so I took the opportunity to get into IT. Then by the time I finished there, the whole economy came tumbling down. My resumé is abysmal, filled with short term jobs in businesses that went under one by one. My only hope has been taking a shot at making it through the Internet through literature, art, animation, gamedev, programming, whatever. At this point I'm too scared to get hired properly because it might just end up as another row in the CV, I just want to do my own thing cause I just can't rely on others.
ALFA · 2021-07-23 16:35
@catmother over the years I owned many internet businesses What are your interests in the matter, and references sites or such Can we still success without beeing fuarrrked by fees and new internet slave working
Cat Mother · 2021-07-24 07:03
>>47911 I'm not going to reveal any more information about myself, if you don't mind. But... >Can we still success without beeing fuarrrked by fees and new internet slave working When it comes to corporate graphic design at least: I doubt it. Either people are just grabbing things off Google Images or some free logo creators, or they pay some African company working for nickles off Fiverr or something to make what they want.
Nobody special · 2021-07-24 12:53
>>47932 Branding is the key imo. There are still people taking big bucks for "designing" a logo but the reason they get paid is cause their name has high reputation and not cause they do amazing design. The modern day graphic designer job isnt about being a good artist but about being good at self marketing

Currently struggling with the same thing as your brother. What helped me was gradually getting out of the neet pit. First he needs to actually start caring about living a life outside the computer. Doing easy but satisfying work can help break him out of the "nothing matters" demotivated mindset. 1. One push up a day, maybe do one with him, just as he comes for dinner. It doesn't matter if it's the tiniest excercise, a routine of exercise needs to start somewhere. 2. Less screen usage overtime (and replacing it with hobbies and productive things). Bit stupid but watching Yuru Camp influenced me to try camping stuff, I set up a tent and camped in the backyard. Does he have any interest in things like this from the media he consumes? 3. Doing more things around the house like cooking and cleaning is easy way to feel productive and like not everything you try will fail. 4. If you have a backyard, gardening is good to increase desire to keep living and doing something outside the screen (watering plants, weeding, watching them grow and then eating them). You can even grow stuff in pots indoors. If he doesn't want to change after all this, then getting him on welfare would be the ideal, sometimes people are too far gone.

Let me get this straight, you're the one disassociating because your sibling is Lain, but your sibling is the one who is Mika and not you... :thonk:

>>47857 Near identical to my situation. Sus.
Cat Mother · 2021-09-05 03:04
Do you two enjoy any hobbies together? He may not want to step away from the computer for a job but maybe he would like to go on a walk with his brother. Than maybe after a while he will start to enjoy RL and want to make more progress.
