How do I cleanse my brain from all the garbage I have consumed in years

I literally broke a lot off my video game consoles as well as my phone after i noticed i wasn't able stop using them compulsively with just willpower. All you then have to do is wait some time. It took me like a year of not thinking about internet politics until i felt sane again. Time heals everything or however the saying goes. You just need find things to do in that time so you don't get too bored and go back to all the bad soykaf again.

I have some fake accounts around the web that give me important information but also paralyze me at the same time.
I tried deleting them but every so often I start to feel the need to search for some important memories and/or people, so I revive them every time until I give up trying. I have no willpower to get rid of them forever.

Obviously OP refers to advertising. The pollution YouTube or Facebook enslave search algorithms to create.
Ask how you would find the movie or game, through a friend, a slave, or an institution.
The context affects the interpretation, significantly.
Tank · 2021-04-21 20:55

>Obviously OP refers to advertising.
IMO it's not really that obvious. OP could've meant as well that the images/ideas he has thus far consumed are insofar persistent that they are starting to affect his normal thinking habits - like a sudden, involuntary mental picture of Winnie the Pooh, accompanied by an annoying tune, or something similar. He also could've meant that all the games, movies etc. that he has thus far consumed, are now, in his mind, of such a mediocre quality that they are impoverishing him on some spiritual, psychological or cultural level.
>>44036
You couldn't have been more vague, even if you tried. Anyway, if you're trying to kick a bad habit, like gaming, the most effect way to do so is by totally ruining the experience for yourself. For instance, use cheats to beat the game or make a private server where you can do anything. That way you'll come to the awareness that the system's limitations that you're engaging with are totally arbitrary, and you recognize the pointlessness of it all. In short, seek ways to ruin the meaningfulness of the experience by diverting your conscious awareness from the positive affiliations to the negative ones.
In case you want to rid yourself of media that you now regard as "garbage", but which already occupies a space in your mind, there are at least four ways to eliminate them from your consciousness. 1. by destroying the brain. Sniff some paint, or whatever. 2. Active unlearning. There are probably many ways to go about doing this, but it all boils down to directing your active thoughts into distorting, misremembering and unmaking the contents that you want gone. I have had warying success with this method. 3. Repression. try to push these unwanted intrusions mentally out of your awareness. Can't really explain it any better than that. With enough denials and negative responses the mind should automatically learn to push them to your subconscious mind, but there are no guarantees to this method, as they'll probably just pop up back in your dreams. 4. Forget about them. Yeah, it's as hard as trying to think yourself into sleeping. Occupy yourself with subjects/content/activities that you regard or associate with positive feelings. Eventually, if you keep yourself long enough from having the possibility to think about the unwanted content, the positive content will steamroll over the old contents, and they will naturally start fading away.
That's my 2 cents. Do with it as you will.
Mitnick · 2021-04-21 22:46
>>44036
If we're interpreting the question our own way I assumed OP meant "I want to learn how to reverse normal socialization and then avoid it, so anything I create is divorced enough from current culture to be considered outsider art". The latter part of my interpretation is mostly guess work, but the former, reversing socialization, explains why they need to 'cleanse' their brain.
I don't think you can cleanse your brain beyond what (>>44239) said. The more productive goal I think is ending the garbage flow and replacing it with what you deem is productive. Know you can't reverse the past garbage, but you can prevent future garbage. You can try to unteach the garbage, to varying degrees, if what you're running away from political, worldview based, etc by reading books against it.
This part will be based more what I think you're saying, aka my interpretation on "I want to be an outsider artists". The biggest trap I see is someone replaces 'popular garbage' with 'pseudo-indie garbage'. 'Pseudo-indie garbage' is just normal 'garbage' except it's slightly obscurer or with perceived benefits which hellp them cope with keeping it, but the obscurity is manufactured or the benefits out-weighted. Think how people think arctic monkeys is obscure or people have one social media site they wont quite because it's "different", ex: 4 chan.

When exposure to collectives or the environment harms interest in life,
existential crisis'es arise in frequency as well as potence,
in other words existential health weakens.

We could close into specific subgroups of the population to analyze further: women, for example.
Despite their dramatic rise of freedoms, rights and benefits afforded to them by society and their ability to exercise their individual freedoms without any inhibition or consequence, they are able to fully realize their individuality.
https://users.nber.org/~jwolfers/papers/WomensHappiness.pdf
Feel free to read what this paper come sup with for explaining it, but I'd recommend to just focus on the data, as one should usually do.
Compare this population to the happiness of men. they were free to do what they wnated for a bit longer and thus serve as a nice control group. I am sure men are unhappier than before, too (due to other societal ills adding up to the rampant atomization of society), but the gap widened.

This is generally what I experience. It's painful. I think the only solution is to cold-turkey stuff. I've moved onto books because film is messing with me too much. It's too easy for a scene from some movie to replay endlessly in my mind and it's quite frustrating.
I do not think destroying the brain is the correct answer - rather, I think it'd be better for OP to move onto books. That seems to be helping me a lot. If I could find a replacement for music, I probably would, as that tends to get stuck in my head frequently as well.

No. I'm trying to say that the utility of anonymity in evaluating ideas without external baggage is lost on most imageboard users, so even if we did come to imageboards to discuss things which are difficult to talk about elsewhere most of our discussions would self-sabotage due to the worsening culture and attitude cultivated by the changing userbase. Instead of attracting curious people, these places now attract ideologues, propagandists, pathological trolls (in greater proportion than before), underdeveloped children... Basically people who only discover chans for the wrong reasons. My post was meant to illustrate the ecosystem of self-reinforcing anger propaganda which has taken hold, and how certain people think they can rise above it merely by adding layers of contrarianism and irony. Solitary confinement is essentially sensory deprivation. Boredom never deprives you like that and prolonged boredom on that scale doesn't exist. You are never bored for a month straight. The existence of bored NEETs refutes that, they have access to as much or as little stimulus as they want and yet they're still bored and miserable, so the fundamental problem caused by confinement is not access to entertainment.
We could also consider elderly who live alone and are only visited a few times a year, that's pure misery despite having access to entertainment.

I would contest neets being neurotypical in first place. You have at least dopamine receptors blown out which makes them a poor sample study if you seek to generalize for society. Secondary they still dont go as cray as people in sensory deprivation.
As for elderly it depends. Neurotypical people need social contact to stay happy but outliers exist likewise who are happier with no people around.
Roger Pollack · 2021-05-30 23:54

Absolutely there's outliers and I agree that NEETS don't have it as bad as solitary inmates, but I think it's reasonable to put this information together and conclude that for most people, social isolation is unbearable. Obviously you couldn't test this in a controlled scientific way, but this is enough evidence to show that individualism is not the default for most people, which refutes individualism as metaphysical claim about people.
