Would Lain support clamping and censorship? I've been thinking recently, it seems ultimately Lain could do little other than clamp others. She wrote herself out of the record, and turned others into what she thought they needed to be, so they could be happy. Is this not a clamp? Due to her own core design the existence of self and other could only bring torment and mutual harm, there was nothing to be, and nothing to be done. So she had to escape, and put them all under a clamp of sorts. She then cast off a different sort of clamp of her own, the false self which was trying to convince her she must be God. The result was not an Eden outright, nor a clockwork paradise (like in Ergo Proxy), and she didn't exactly thwart their construction of the tower of Babel, but more a detached observation where she did keep the truth from them in some sense.
Hard to concisely say, overall. Thoughts? What was Lain's relationship to the clamp?
