>sometimes only someone not mentally healthy - not normal - is capable of rising up against objectively awful injustice. A normal, healthy person finds a way to accept his condition, no matter how wretched. this is a phrase from the book I have been reading, and it is about a slave who started an insurrection in America, Nat Turner. The rebellion failed miserably, of course, and his companions all abandoned him and those who didn't were all captured and hanged. They were all described as bloodthirsty maniacs and insane, but we can clearly see that they were the only who could see clearly. Nat Turner himself was insane actually and he claimed to see visions in the sky of God telling him to rise up and he claimed do see symbols in the field written in blood telling him to wait for a sign and that sign as a solar eclipse and after it he took up arms. So only an insane person could see a clear injustice: slavery and other slaves not only accepted their condition and refused to join him, except for a few men. More, the others actively aided their masters in the suppression of the revolt. For they were normal and sane and well adjusted. I see this today, with most people blindly accepting their own wretched fate: wage slavery, which is not that different from slavery. I remember an essay of the late David Graeber compares slavery and wage slavery, which are strikingly similar. A wage laborer is raised in one context (the family), just as a slave is, and then is ripped from that context to provide abstract labor to a master, the difference being that a wage laborer is ripped daily from his family and returns to it by the end of the day while the slave is ripped from his previous context but once, when he is captured and enslaved. So a wage laborer is temporarily and daily enslaved. And as with the slaves, wage slaves accept their fate blindly, just as chattel slaves did and they actively identify with their masters and cooperate with them in their enslavement. This is what being normal, mentally healthy person means, it means being able to get used to anything, even being hanged. Especially it means being used to getting hanged. Only an insane person can see the world clearly. Just couple thoughts i had, thanks for reading my blog Present Day, Present Time! AHAHAHAHAHA!

>>35520 As slightly edgy as your post is it makes sense in terms of nature I'd argue. You're far more likely to live and reproduce if you don't fight back and then die. The idea that you have to be a complete fuarrrking nutcase isn't really true when other examples (only ones off the top of my head would be King Phillip's Rebellion and Che's Uprising in Cuba). The real question is the potential of other people to act to help fight against injustice, that is, how many people think exactly like you and don't act but would if the cause arose. Most followings function this way e.g. the most important member of a cult is always the first one as they then bring in other people and make them more likely to join. What do you suppose people could do to try and fix this injustice lain? Terrorism is ineffective, politics gets nothing done due to bureaucracy, what options do you have? I guess I in some part feel the same way but there's seemingly nothing one can do that would ever matter (especially as if I help one person now it doesn't matter in the infinite in which people suffer elsewhere). Wonder what your thoughts are and if I'm maybe just too autistic.

Many mental illnesses are just characteristics of people having lasting responses to the wrongs in the world. Only a few respond correctly to it. Mental illness sometimes is just a classification to keep people down maintain the status quo because so many of the solutions all rest on the persons suffering not the world at large full of people tricked into accepting their suffering or trained to like it.

>only an insane person can see injustice insanity is a legal definition, ie it only applies to circumstances in relation to law courts. insanity is a defense applicable to legal standing within a certain context. so yes, someone in that position may see injustice in particular in a clearer lens since that also pertains to law (law itself being, in theory, a set of socio-sexual norms decided on by a people). there might be a better term to describe the mental state of the person you're trying to martyr.

It's not that, in an insane world, the insane see clearly---they don't, no more than the popularly insane---but that the differently-insane sometimes act as a sane ought; rather: that the sane are considered insane. Perfect sanity drives one to utmost --in a word: insanity-- dissonances against such a world. >As not a native speaker i find it curious that insane is the term for the pathological side. "In sanity" should mean mentally healthy. Its like theres a public subconscious opinion that mentally ill is the default state. No, ``in-'' is the privative prefix. The real problem is seen in ``inflammable'' --synonymous with ``flammable''-- meaning able to be inflamed. Don't give so much credit to language, or the popular subconscious, where simple accidents of fate are responsible. It's the weighing of accidents as intentional, that's problematic.
Trinity · 2020-11-29 21:46
So there's two tiers of "not mentally healthy" here. One is the basic tier, where you have some trauma or experience that leaves you with an unusual set of values that you hold onto. In this case it's harder to divert your attention and make narrative plays on you, because your trauma keeps your attention fixated on just one aspect of the matter at hand. This can help you better focus on a certain side or aspect of a societal problem, but also makes you that grumpy fuarrrk who can never let go of some past grievance. You can still emphatize with the majority, but you have your priorities. The other one is when you have some developmental or psychiatric disorder, or some lasting circumstance that makes you permanently unable to view the world as others do. A few good examples would be sociopaths, autists, schizos, addicts that will never recover, priosners with 20+ years inside, and so on. These people get a different view of problems and cannot empathize with the majority, for them an entire axis or aspect of the problem is missing completely. If that aspect happens to be the reason why the whole thing is fuarrrked, they can easily propose a "ruthlessly efficient" solution that ignores the aspect, but it's up to the majority to decide if the solution is acceptable in the real world where the ignored aspect is present.

>>35583 That's funny. As you should be aware pointing out DSM psychology is ideology is not an ideology, it's just straight facts. Psychology as it stands is built on unscientific backing. A bunch of woo. There are many factors that play into who people are and how they are seen by others.
Nanashi No Gombe · 2020-11-30 04:59
>>35584 I don't know what the DSM has to do with this. But my point is this entire logic reminds me of people in the "neurodiversity" crowd that think all of their problems and suffering with the condition are due to this idea of an evil NT-biased society not accepting them for who they are and not objective symptoms like lacking "theory of mind" and social empathy. Mental illness doesn't make you unique nor individualistic, and even if it did it's ultimately better to just not suffer from them. Besides, there's more to mental illness than just not being able to fit in or adapt to modern life, like the cognitive effects mental illnesses come with. See: i suffer from a disorder that causes horrifying intrusive thoughts
Koichiro · 2020-11-30 20:39
>>35585 Mental illnesses aren't scientific classifications they are constructs of groupings of certain behaviours and beliefs. That's why the mention of DSM because what is a mental illness is determined by the DSM even if a large portion of psychologists disagree. It's not merely about neural diversity it's how society accepts or rejects certain behaviours and beliefs and how society at large or the authorities within it's constructed roles determine what is what and how to interpret it. I'm not saying mental illness doesn't exist just that a lot of things considered mental illness aren't necessarily an illness at all.

I think the point is this: people respond to their environment in a way that can result in mental health problems, but not every individual has the same genetic predisposition to mental health problems. You can plausibly take two people and subject them to the same circumstances and they will behave differently. A tendancy for anxiety and depression to name two well known and common conditions have neurological traits and genes associated with the likelihood of their expression. This is not a guess, this is the current state of neurology and genetics even if the overall mechanisms of these conditions is not necessarily well understood. However I am not claiming that genetics determines everything, as you would be well aware it is true that trauma can alter the brain as well. Could you give some examples of "non-illnesses" that are just divergences from society? As far as I, and mental health professionals see it, an illness is something causing pain, distress and an inability to function. Yes, you can form more philosophical arguments like Husserl about the role that alienation plays in the creation of groups of people who experience distress and this is valid, but those people are suffering nonetheless. The purposes of developing criteria for peoples' suffering is to help them develop strategies to overcome them and aid them with medication. It's not really relevant to them to say who is and isn't ill based on the cause. Their objective is to treat the difficulties in managing life, and easing suffering. This is a matter of definition of illness. They don't turn people away because they don't believe that the cause of someone's distress isn't valid. These kinds of philosophical arguments may be interesting but they would be an obstruction to medicine /if/ they disqualified people from treatment.
Mitnick · 2020-12-01 00:49
>>35617 >The comparison of wage slavery to real slavery sounds like a comment from a teenage communist (though to be fair marx basically says the same thing) If that's wrong then you should easily be able to disprove it, but instead you assign imaginary qualities to the person making the argument which have nothing to do with its validity. The tendency of people like you to focus on conjuring external motives for those you're arguing with instead of actually looking at whether or not their points have substance is why most discussions on the internet are insufferable. "You think this? In.cel. You said that? Tra.nny. Anyone who says XYZ is a sh.ill from pol/left.y.pol/r.eddit". Don't you think enough websites have been ruined by that? >The implicit assumption that you are some epic damaged nutcase who is able to see the flaws in society others can't. Dismissing a broad range of observations by assuming that all opinions are tailored to influence how others see you is the definition of bad faith. Saying that people of a certain mental profile respond differently to conventional social structures isn't an "edgy" assertion and it's really up to you to construe it as some veiled fashion statement. What it sounds like is that you have a problem with anyone seeing themselves as different to other people at all.

A "normal" "healthy" person will accept those conditions, that is because the npc needs are filled by the powers that be. Truly healthy persons will not resort to violence unless provoked or threatened in a legitimate way that warrants a response, they have little to no reason to cause trouble, but will if forced to. People who are unhealthy will have lesser coping mechanism and/or unfillfiled needs that cause them to lash out faster and more uncontrolled. It takes a certain sense of insanity to have the motivation to step out the boundaries of normality and question the status quo, which will make you insane for good if you see the world for what it truly is. Even more so it takes the willingness to take severe risk to challenge the system and society. With that out of the way lets not pretend anymore the system is interested in healthy behavior, practicly everything is toxic nowdays, the balant advertising, the poisonous food, not to mention this soykafty unnatural environment we live in. Psychiatry will tell the underlying causes of mental illness are chemical processes, which is true, but they never touch the issue what actually causes these conditions. Atleast when the causes are part of the system they will never touch on that, they just push pills to make you a conform numbed zombie so you no longer have the symptoms, case closed. For one example why are people depressed, its never pointed out that the real cause is because we are forced to live in mind numbing diseased inhumane lifes where we are reduced to machines and surrounded by people who basically robots. You no longer have any agency to do anything about it once you are on their pills, the psychiatrist has one less case, the pharma mafia is happy for one more addict and the state doesnt have to worry about one more potential radical. We are conditioned to think that this is progressive and efficient, but it is neither, it is a system simply to control people. They like to push "green" alternatives, but those are a fake natural solution and still controlled by a system that is destructive. The system twisted the definition of healthy to being a conformist sheep and psychiatry to mind control. I like to remind that for a long time homosexuality was considered a mental illness, alan turing was even chemically castrated and committed suicide because of it, it was prefectly legal and "scientific" at the time, this shows just how things go in this so called rational society. A friend of mine has two sons, he told me the school shrink forced them to take ritalin so they get better grades. The doctor even said "they will end up as drug addicts if they dont take it", but appearntley half the kids who take ritalin will end up as junkies. Ritalin is bascially legal amphetamine, i dont need to tell you how hard this stuff is, the worst part is he goes along with it, how hard fuarrrked does a society have to be to push hard drugs on children as performance enhancer for not even work.

They just do their thing and someone makes sure they don't have to think about survival and money. Working to survive is not a virtue, it's a situation. Workers (especially the working class types) seem to find pride in it, as it's the only thing simple enough for them to see as a contribution. >>35776 Slow down, friend. You have a few valid points buried under a lot of generalization, edge, and some conscpiracy. First off, the psychiatrist isn't quite the mind control sheep herder you make it out to be. They are people who spent significant time (7+ years) and effort to learn a soykafton of dry and uninteresting research resuts. They also learned that the sum of human knowledge on humans is jack soykaf. They are biased towards and invested into these years, as they've spent the last decade cramming harder than most people, enough to believe in their own profession. They are psychiatrists now, peolpe start coming in, something needs to be done about them before they start shooting up the place. They can't prescribe you new parents, different genetics or a different world, so they do the best they can: attempt to fix any chemical or hormonal defects you have from generations of skipped natural selection, or if there's none, they pick from a palette of 8-10 available options (block this, enhance that) to try and make you not jump off a building until you can be your own person and find better ways to handle reality. Reality, which takes us to "the system". The "system" is just an agreement between people long past: 1) might makes right kinda is like kicking dead whales down the beach for the common, who are not quite mighty. it's better if a gentleman's agreement is made and people can keep their things 2) it's generally better to keep murder and rape and such low 3) it's easier not to be annexed by a tyrant, exterminated by bears, rekt by some magical plague or enslaved by the next tribe if you've got an economy, research, technology, government, military and such. (anarchists will mostly disagree because they've never experienced that other, bigger tribe) 4) it's also not bad if we're not an anthill following one queen but kinda can do our own thing to a degree. This is roughly it, most of the details change depending on place and age. One thing that was never figured out is how to keep smart, ambitious people from amassing X, because only ambitious and even smarter people can do so. They agree that the feelings of below average humans that just want to feel good and air-headed through life without ever knowing what's up aren't that important. They're like the not so bright little sibling. They're still family so you try to help them in finding a place, but you won't fuarrrk everything up for everyone just because they're throwing a tantrum about the harsh reality of their mediocricity.
