We live in a Dystopian Nightmare
Pulse · 2020-10-03 21:41
I wasnt alone today. I communicated electroincally with many people. Some I knew. Some I have even met.
The only person I actually spoke to was a cashier behind a perspex screen. After the masked security guard nodded me inside, even though I didnt have a mask. I bought 4 beers and drunk them all singing to music videos I was listening to with some virtual friends. I cant work atm, it was reason to leave the house, and slowly the world is getting smaller. If my life was a movie it would look most strange.

You get used to it, sorta. Dig the aesthetic, it gets worse. This aesthetic's popular around the world for a reason. It's relatable.
Well, maybe it gets better after. Maybe. Increased surveillance means doing things in meatspace is growing more dangerous. The pandemic hasn't helped. So the only spaces we have left which we can meaningfully claim to perhaps own are the digital ones we create, but those are constantly under attack by malicious elements or normal person stupidity.
I wonder, will cancel culture and similar brands of bullshit restore anonymity to normalcy? It's been obvious from the start using your legal name online is asking for trouble.
Interesting thought, though. The real is dead and the virtual is dying, what have we left?

My live is like this since 8 years. The virus changed literally nothing in my daily routine.

I'm trying to remember the name of a movie from just a few years ago, about the survivors of a pandemic having to interact with each other solely through videoconferencing from their sealed bunkers. I only saw it once. It was decent but not really a must-rewatch sort of thing. If I remember the name I'll post it below.
A group called Film Consortium San Diego is doing a virtual ongoing film festival called "Quarantine Film Challenge" (https://www.youtube.com/c/FilmConsortiumSanDiego/playlists). Short films, some just a few minutes long, on the ongoing effects of the pandemic. A lot of them are pretty good. Not something to really binge-watch for people already having a tough time. Most of it really hits close to home. But there's some real creativity going on here.

family & IRL friends

People have been telling you for the better part of a year to wear a mask. Wear a fuarrrking mask.

IRL is deprecated, we have evolved out of it. Returning to the meatspace after being born and raised on the cyberspace is a torture. It is slow, bland and dull, when it's not - it's chaotic and full of crap, the best way to tolerate it is to stare in your phone and scroll memes as fast as you can process them. Those who are stuck in the meatspace for too long risk becoming a part of it and losing their individuality, all for the "natural" easy access to the internal drug supply in their brains. RL is for the same happiness junkies who melt their brains on youtube, except their preferred frequency is lower, with long-lasting animalistic satiation and orgasmic bursts instead of the continuous stream of short-term digital pleasures of varying intensity.

I find the cope meme culture more insufferable than the misery this life has to offer. If people stopped looking the other way and start reflecting on what kind of reality we live in and what the rules of this universe are, the world would probably be better. Hedonism is the biggest cancer of modern society.

I disagree, nationalism (which somehow still exists) is a far worse cancer.

globalism is cancer, monocultures are failures in the longterm because when it goes wrong everything goes to soykaf. Its better to have 200 nations with different rules than one unified mess where everything goes to soykaf as a great collective.

That's a pretty high bar for insufferability. Modern technology shelters people from even beginning to explore the depths of misery this reality has to offer.

Reality is all about hedonism. The desire to go "back to the tribe, family, irl friends" can be read as "artificial sources of entertainment have exhausted me, I don't want to be in control of my emotional state, want to return to the flow and feel good naturally". Drugs are drugs, even if they are released by your own reward system for sitting in front of a campfire in a company of friends. We can be more than just junkies avoiding misery and looking for happiness.

The great gap is where your reward system comes from. From within and thus in your control or from outside and thus you become another npc.
There was a experiment showcasing even people who have an internal reward structure can be hijacked. Took kids that liked to draw on their own. Started giving them pointless reward stickers for drawings, then took the stickers away and kids stopped drawing. The moment you accept any external reward structure you're at the mercy of whoever controls it.

globalism vs nationalism is a false dichotomy
embrace anarchy and love

True. I'm not a fan of the factory default reward system though, it locks you in the most npc existence possible. Building your own reward system is where the magic is and makes you your own master.

Life itself is a dystopian nightmare. That was the message of Buddha, and the reason for Buddhism, especially zen.

I work in construction. We are too important to be let idle so it was work all year as always. I see many people and have money but the internet has crippled my social life long ago when I was an online neet like you do connecting with people about others things but work is hard. So no idea what to spend it on but nice food and tools and my spare time online is always bought by neglecting important tasks.

This its all so strange and mildly tiresome and this makes me resent myself for not maturing fast enough and be more absorbed into the daily grind. I wish I could joke with ppl about cars and socker but my interests are esoteric crap now.
