Nofap
Bobby Newmark · 2020-08-27 02:06
Do you guys praticipate in nofap? I know this issue can be quite polarizing. To me the science seems to back up nofap really well and my anicdotes (obviously back it up). It seems so hard to deny yourself this pleasure when the modern condition almost forces it down your throat. The aim of this thread I suppose is to discuss whether such thing are even worth pursuing.
The Plague · 2020-08-27 03:05
don't really know what the supposed benefits of nofap are, aside from the stuff that sounds like bs.
I am definitely mildly addicted to masturbation but I've tried to cut it down and I realized that really, I don't care, I just want to fap. So I guess it will never change unless I actually want to quit fapping.
The only thing that I could see changing this is if I entered into a sexual relationship. Then I would avoid fapping because it makes the sex better.
Void · 2020-08-27 03:07
I do the opposite. I don't have an urge to masturbate on a regular basis, but if I remind myself to I can boost my overall mood, helps in a similar way to exercise or meditation.
IMO the problem people have is they're doing it with the wrong mindset. Masturbation (or sex) is a way to build and amplify thoughts and emotions that will stay with you for a while, so it makes sense that if what you're working with is negative you're going to end up feeling worse afterwards.
I can see how it might be helpful to some people to stop, but there's no way nofap is universally beneficial. Whether and how you masturbate is a personal decision about how you want to organize your mind.
Agent Smith · 2020-08-27 03:10
I do nofaps for 3 to 14 days when I want to get horny as being horny boosts my confidence. I also don't browse any of the big porn sites for a lot of reasons and I imagine it's the same for other lains. Unfortunately, there's not much credible information on the subject due to the recency of the phenomena. There's also the possibility of it being different for everyone.
Here's some updated academic literature if anyone's interested. It's mostly about motivators for abstinence from masturbation but it also has some sections about the history of scientific and psychological research on the effects that porn and masturbation can have.

yeah, the thing with me is that usually I don't feel worse afterwards. Often I feel that pressure has been relieved, and it helps me sleep.

Indeed, it's a bit like teetotaling.
To all the people who want to do nofap but feel they can't: try to quit porn first, or change your porn habits. Use your imagination, it's much healthier.

Its over a decade old information. Merely the trend is more recent but by not that much. Check this screencaps post date - 2015.

longest i've managed to go without fapping was just over a week and i felt incredibly clear headed. there are definite benefits to nofap, but it won't cure you of any mental health issues you may have
Lady Jessica · 2020-08-27 13:34
From my experience, most of NoFap's benefits are placebo or are extremely negligible to the point of being unnoticeable. There are a couple of side-effects that a lot of people talk about that do seem to correlate with abstinence, and that I consistently experience when I abstain myself: an increased sex drive and the will to interact with the opposite sex, plus an increased sensitivity to sexual arousal. That's pretty much it.
Back to the original point, I really find it hard to believe that abstaining from masturbation, even for a prolonged period of time, may lead to any noticeable changes in testosterone levels and then have a noticeable effect on your body/behavior/mental state: >>31248
I've been masturbating more or less daily since I turned 10 years old, I think. According to NoFap theories I should be extremely effeminate, have poor skin and whatnot. Despite this, I can say that my balls dropped very early on, I experienced very little acne during puberty (I did use various ointments, some of which contained zinc, and generally took care of my skin, though); I have an extremely deep voice, wide shoulders, average body/facial hair growth; I build mass easily, I get irritated and angry easily, don't know any other behaviors/characteristics that could be associated with being "high-testosterone", but there's that.
This may just be anecdotal evidence, but I seriously doubt NoFap, which, truth be told, is also based on anecdotal evidence. Then again, who knows, perhaps I could have been ultra-mega-giga-chad had I abstained.
Frank Garza · 2020-08-27 13:42
Nofap has done nothing to improve my mental state. Neither has eating healthy, frequent exercise and weightlifting, going outside and socializing, meditation, taking long walks . I always feel miserable no matter what. I have no options in life whatsoever
Lord Nikon · 2020-08-27 13:44
Done it for months. The only benefits have been a better skin and being less smelly.

these happen to me except for the will to interact with the opposite sex. I just become a horny anxious mess. No good.

it's based on research papers. It all started when the test cycle & fapping were linked so people logically concluded alright lets control test by controlling fapping to get stronger since doping with test was already a known thing. I just don't know if there is newer research on impact. Only read the original paper way back, tried it for several months and didn't see bigger gains either but i wouldn't rule out that it can help others cause generally most training/diet advice doesn't work universally. The most extreme example i read about is there are some diabetics that can eat ice cream without getting a insulin spike but not white rice. Complete opposite to common advice. This might be the same. If you just take what is statistically most common you will give most people the correct advice but leave others in the dust. If you are into competitive sports you have to test and see what works for you which is also why i tested it myself just in case.

fuarrrk the "health benefits", I don't want to validate the human scum involved. When these people claim they work hard for their money or they act like they're public personalities instead of parasites, or they think they have any right to talk as if they knew anything or cared about anyone it makes my blood boil. There was a reason why these people were reviled through history, they are morally bankrupt. And now our society actually treats them like they're empowered, brave people. They destroy people's sexuality and they're treated like they're its saviors, and they're slowly bridging into every other area of entertainment and contaminating it. I hate this backwards world. What next, hiring pedophiles as kindergarten teachers?

The fact is it exists.
They are not hired because of their sexuality btw, but they're regularly news outbreak of school/kindergartens teachers caught involved in pedophilia rings.

I meant convicted ones for the sake of absurdity.
The world is all backwards. Evil people are held up as the paragons of justice, falsity is regarded as more authentic than sincerity, ugliness is valued more than beauty, vice is virtue, ignorance is knowledge, aggression is love... nothing makes sense. I think the only meaning and the only escape from madness is found in death.
Random · 2020-08-28 20:33
I myself found nofap to be pointless and the actual issue to be more complex, being a total sum of my life conditions plus porn and social networks. Which required quite a lot of time to figure everything out and drop that soykaf out of my life until I finally got back to my normal state. So porn and media are definitely not something you should use, but they aren't a root cause of everything, it's merely a trap that waits for you to step in and then keeps you down, involving you into a cycle: live undesirable life and it will incline you to watch porn, watch porn and it will incline you to live undesirable life.
While evidence in favor of nofap consists of 4chan screencaps, evidence against porn is not and porn addiction is an officially existing disease, though most people seem to ignore it exists. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSF82AwSDiU
So once I dropped porn and most of social media out of my life and brought some actual changes in it, my obsession with femininity and porn is gone. I finally feel myself human. I had what people call brain fog and it indeed feels like a fog that prevents you from thinking like a normal functioning being. And if you ask me, if I were working somewhere on a farm I think the cure would come much faster, but instead I tried to hide in my flat from the rest of the world and formed even closer relations with my computer, which in the end almost turned me into a vegetable.

One guy I work with has been doing 5 months nofap...
He also went full vegan and does nothing but work out. He drank the health cool-aid a little too much imo, but it makes him happy and is decently healthy after a few major life adjustments.
>>31239
fapping releases neurotransmitters that can be used like performance enhancing drugs, I have known people who fap to clear their heads before big exams/to gain focus.
>>31240
I think fapping is like anything else, once habit forming it can be hard to break, and the feeling people get from ejaculation is biologically configured to be addicting and pleasurable to ensure the survival of the species. Animals would rather have sexual gratification than nourishment, so the impulse is extremely powerful. Pair that with a conditional stimuli like fapping while watching porn means you can become addicted to porn. Worst of all is when someone uses fapping as a trauma cope or becomes addicted to fapping and cant stop fapping even in social settings (these people usually need to be physically restrained and institutionalized).
Joey · 2020-08-29 15:26
I don't fap when I visit friends. So I have gone 2 weeks without fapping multiple times. And I cannot say that it had any notable effect on me. But to be perfectly fair, many other circumstances also change when I visit my friends, such as diet, sleep schedule and drug use, so it is not the best conditions to say whether or not nofap had an effect on me. I think porn is a much bigger problem than masturbation, and I am guessing porn is what makes the experience addictive. I generally feel happier if I masturbate without porn, but again it is quite possible that I might just be biased and feel guilty or something of the like after I watch porn. Either way I don't think I shall stop masturbating, I think it has positive effects on my mental sometimes. My mental and physical health is overall in a rather good spot as well. I just make a point of it to not get addicted to {porn, refined sugar, brewing soykaf, ...}
Hiro Protagonist · 2020-08-29 18:29
I usually have a few days interval when I masturbate, but I did try doing nofap once. I went for a week but I just started feeling worse than usual after the 5th day or so

When you fap you give part of your sexual energy to a vessel, it is a form of adoration. When you fap to porn, you give part of your power to that industry, and when you do it with your fantasies, you give power to the anima, wich is a little bit better than doing it with porn, but you are still wasting that energy.
The only 2 ways to manifest sexual energy without letting it go down the drain, that comes to my mind, is sex and charging sigils.
>>31427
It's not as crazy as you may think. That's technology for you, a b!tch. I think a lot of historical famous people wouldn't have been as big if they lived with the same commodities we have in the present. However, the "fap issue" has past the point of being a trivial problem. The solution provided by the NoFap community is a dead end, but I don't blame them.
You should fight with your issues, whatever they are. If your problem is jerking off twice a day, stop doing it, and when you no longer desire to do it, do it and don't yet addicted again. The same applies to all bad habits.
