TransHumanism and its branches
Cutter · 2020-07-27 01:29
What are lainons' opinions in transhumanism, anarcho-transhumanism, post-humanism, etc?
Tank · 2020-07-27 02:36
fuarrrking finally I was waiting for someone to make a thread about this topic, I was too lazy to write a lengthy OP about it. I believe that it's the only logical way for us to progress to a greater species. We'd finally break free from the chains of evolution, we could finally pursuit our destiny as higher beings. Any of my Lains planning to get dumped in a cryo-tank when they kick the bucket if nothing major happens in our lifetime? Last time I checked the cost was somewhere around $20,000 which isn't too horrible if you know how to save your money.

Can a lainanon explain to me how that would even theoretically work? Because it sounds insane.

transhumanists often seem to think that it will solve all societal problems somehow, but the way I see it the only way that it can affect society as a whole is negatively. When the rich can make themselves literally more than human, we will all become more cattle.
That being said, I also would happily join up with a hivemind, or have my mind or body augmented technologically. I suppose in that sense, I view transhumanism as a religion, not so much as a political philosophy.

Okay, that might be the idea of it but how exactly would a theoretical anarcho-transhumanist society function? Who would rule? What rules would be in place? How would the economy be managed?
Nemissa · 2020-07-27 19:08

>who would rule in an anarchist society?
Nobody, obviously. That's what anarchism means.
Dozer · 2020-07-27 19:53

Not exactly, most Anarchist systems just take devolution to the most extreme degree and regulate governing to local communes or groups of people, abolishing basically any form of central control or power in order to prevent the workers from being oppressed.

Theoretically, that could be a thing, but how do you plan to transistion to that system and govern in the mean time?
Masami Eiri · 2020-07-29 06:13
There is only transhumanism. There is no anarcho-transhumanism or post humanism
Boris Grishenko · 2020-07-29 06:46
I'm just some loser with an internet connection, I'm not really qualified to talk about the topic. But considering how modern health care and society overall "broke" natural selection a bit (being rich isn't really an inheritable trait) transhumanism seems like a logical next step for our race.
I guess the obvious concerns are privacy and ethics. Big data companies can already track your every move if they wanted to, now imagine they could interface with your body.
Also I assume the divide between rich and poor would grow even larger, unless there are some regulations in place.

Unavoidable if technological progress continues.
>anarcho-transhumanism
Would be like biohacking? Only possible if bio things get cheap enough because usually doing anything bio is expensive as fuarrrk, usually needing some companies for sinthesys of biomolecules and other stuff. Because of this, i think the anarchy part of it currently looks a bit difficult.
>Post humanism
Are you talking about humanism the education system? If that the case, i feel very pessimistic about the future prospects of education. The system already got fuarrrked hard since the industrial revolution and now is one of the favorite pet words of many CEO's whose only interest on it is to make their employees more profitable, not more genuinely creative and mentally free. Already seeing that crap with the increasing "learn to code" trend. Is ironic that now that we have all the knowledge of mankind to our fingertips we usually choose to spend time in profitable knowledge instead of focusing on "spiritual" or inner knowledge, but perhaps im just ranting at this point.

Lady 3Jane.. · 2020-10-20 10:31
The whole point of the transhumanism being pushed by the elites is to allow the elites to "transcend" the standard human capabilities along with lifespan as to allow them to finally declare that the elite and the servant constitute two entirely separate species and not simply classes in an economic system or different social groups.
Terzibashjian · 2020-10-20 16:41
transhumanism will probably be just a copy of your boss mind inserted into your Neuralink so you can work 16h/day with your own personal Jeff Bezos watching your every movement while you work in your wagie-cagee

Can't I instead install an AI in my head that works 10 hours a day, while my conciseness sleeps?
Sounds like an interesting premise for a novel, now, that I think about it: a world where everybody starts retreating more and more into their dream worlds while mindless workaholic AI take over the planet.

The meme politcal compass, is extremely outdated lmao! So I went out to find a politcal compass that is actually compatible with transhumanism and the L/R variants of Accelerationism. Props to Nesterov for creating this! Sadly, I don't speak Russian and cannot understand his twitter lol.
Also, to clear up a bit of confusion; what Nick Land considered to be "right vs left" on the Justin Murphy podcast would more so reflect "technocapital vs eudaimonia" with this compass specifically.
The lower-left is for the most part; L/ACC fully automated gay space communism.
The upper technocapital friendly left is I think: ancap/agorist/libertarian, and prefers capitalism to function in a more horizontal-decentralized manner instead of attempting to end capitalism.
The upper right; you get Landian R/ACC techno-fascism.
Lower right is: trad-catholic users that claim to be """NRx""" and often say things like, "aCcElLoRaTIoNisM iS cRiNgE". As said in the legend, they are mostly patchwork incompatible.
The centrist here would be U/ACC I guess??
I'd love to hear some opinions on this!!

I was joking for the most part, except for where I said that it might be a meat fictional setting.
Realistically we'll probably just get a bigger divide between rich and poor. Maybe some more liberal countries might get some regulations or something.

IMO, transhumanism is necessary for intergalactic colonization to be possible. Earth is not geared for the future, if we don't modify our lifespan to handle space travel and strip mine the entire galaxy, capitalism will run its course until earth is a lifeless rotten soykafhole.
Worst case scenario we can operate a vr matrix, I guess :/

This whole concept is very blatantly custom-built to beg the question for transhumanism and shoehorn it in as the natural destiny of beings on earth (plus make it seem infinitely more mainstream than it really is).
I'll be down in the "ultra-conservative" decelerationist corner, please. We will be laughing when you guys screw up and fall apart at the seams after a couple generations, which is totally guaranteed lol

>form of non-government revolving around something that doesn't exist yet
Seems more like a cult to be honest. Either these people have read too much fiction and got infected with VIRUS5*4.6 brain malworm which in itself is not fatal but actually a useful focus of interest over modern-era problems while it's not too late.
It seems to be either it (transhumanism) is AI/tech used for terror (shorten lives) or longevity (lengthen it) and there's a lot of research going on for the latter since forever as it is one of the humanity's goals even way back ancient alchemy but the former seems to be on its baby steps. It depends though, if transhumanism lengthening lives becomes a prison or AI/tech used on terror is actually heroic when applied to evil regime.
AI and robotics in the wrong is fatal, while it may prove to be useful.

Technology will be (even more) regulated (in future). If you think about it, the only way to overthrow (a good or bad) modern government (that is good or bad) is through technology and no longer the iron-pilled kung fu monasteries. This is why the military will always be years ahead of development. I do agree it can make primitive governments obsolete but the first people likely to be transhumanized will be the military or it's a stalemate position.

Whoops, I'll correct myself. I didn't mean to say "intergalactic". It would have to be within the milky way. One lifetime is obviously unrealistic. It might many generations of cyborgs on a spaceship to travel to the closest earthlike planets. A Mars colony would be a good place to start.

what are the origins of transhumanism? like what philosophies/beliefs/technological innovations lead to it becoming a recognizable movement?
Emmanuel · 2020-10-21 08:46
Transhumanist agenda is a vessel for the elites to push technocracy.
Once people surrender control over their own bodies their total control and slavery for the people is ensured.
The dangers of ai and nanotech are well known, but governments and large companies will use them as weapons rather than to be very careful with them.
Googles, policy concering ai is "no limits", you can guess where this goes and other companies arent much better.
Im not against cybernetics, but the way things are going transhumanism is the greatest danger we currently face.
ren · 2020-10-21 13:15

A technocracy is when the people in charge are experts in their field, although the name can confuse people. It does not mean that AI or technology itself is in charge.

This is the true future of transhumanism, full stop. Just look at who is developing it. You're all fools for thinking their motives are pure. They won't use it to transform you from a man into a god, they will transform you from a man into a worm. And Peter Thiel will drug you up and fuсk you in the ass and drink all your blood before filling you with implants and bolting you to the floor in an Amazon warehouse like an industrial robot.
You will not be going to space. Have fun
>>33997
Most of what we currently recognize by the word came from Silicon Valley techno-utopians in the sixties. You know, the ones who made it so you can never have a moment of peace or privacy again because they lied about every single one of their shining ideals, instantly sold out, and started exploiting at a breakneck pace? All just the pipe dreams of the insanely wealthy, who want themselves to live forever as technological deities and everyone else to be forced into perfect submission through technological enthrallment.
>>34004 What he said
>>34007
True, but interestingly the same people are the ones who are constantly pushing no-due-process diktat by "experts" as well. Mysteriously, the experts always seem to be themselves or shamelessly and extravagantly bribed by themselves. They've got lots of irons in the fire.

As much as I'd like post-humanism to be something positive. It's more than likely going to end up being used nefariously by people who actually have power in this world. I'm OK if people consider themselves "anarcho-transhumanists" and actually develop something emacipatory, but in reality they're all just bashing their heads against a wall, and screeching about gender and identity.

Just have to ask themselves a couple questions if they're intellectually honest: Do the people who might really take us to some kind of sci-fi paradise have the mettle or the resources to realistically make this happen? And if not, what is the track record and motivation of people who do have those resources?
Come into my web, said the spider to the fly. I'll wrap you up nice and cozy and then I'll take care of all those pesky bodily fluids for you. Like anybody who trusts Peter Thiel (who is not also Peter Thiel) is categorically insane.

While a lot of trans-humanism is currently developed under the guise of helping the handicapped, I believe we will see the emergence of true post-human augmentation within military operations, undoubtedly within the next 20 years.
In the corporate sphere, I imagine that brain implants will likely be the norm. Once researchers begin to further crack open the mysteries of the human brain, and understand how it can be utilized for raw processing ability and high bandwidth interfacing, clusters of employees hooked together as true "think tank" will be as effective as super computers at solving difficult problems.

It is interesting to know that such a technology has been developed even in ~2000, i dont have the story but it was a tv documentation, it could only send primitive email, obviously no longer fit for modern use.
WIth bci being consumer ready mass produced now its not far off with vr and bci + drones most of the physical space management could be deployed almost entirely virtual.
The cyberpunk future where the virtual world has more power over the physical world seems just off the horizon.
It is interesting how this phenomenon has been long for seen, but very few even recognize it.
