A lot of people here seem to have problems with staying in a good routine and/or pursuing their goals. I myself am one of them. So here's an idea: we'll hold each other accountable. In this thread, post a goal, and a routine that you will use to get there. Once per week, update everyone on your progress. There are some rules: 1) no giving up. If you completely fail for four days in a row, shape up on the fifth day. It's never too late to start. 2) no setting unrealistic goals, because you want to actually accomplish these. 3) no being an ass. So here's my goals and routine: GOAL: getting up early in the morning, and studying + exercising daily. ROUTINE: lights out at 11 PM every night, alarm set to 8 AM. Start the day with a short workout which expands over time, plus a long hike or bike ride every weekend. I will also set aside 3 hours every day to study, starting today.
Mario Rossi · 2020-06-21 22:11
>>28166 ROUTINE: Go to bed at 11:30, wake up at 9, read 15 pages minimum, play guitar for 1 hour, go for 30 minute walks before 3pm for the vitamine D, exercise (already do), search for jobs for few minutes a day.
Miho Iwakura · 2020-06-21 22:49
>>28166 Already set this one but didn't work so i'll try again GOAL: Study and (excercise) daily, stop watching porn, and create something(Can be something really small) every two weeks. Try to be more outgoing and if I manage to talk to a human, be nice to them ROUTINE: read 20 pages minimum of something and excercise for 30 minutes every day, disable automatic image loading in browser

Goal: -Get a new job since my company closed Routine I should do: -At least find something to study -Wake up before 12 -Go back to school next year My actual routine: -Wake up at 6pm, play Classic WoW all day, smoke a bit of weed, sleep at 12am, repeat I don't even feel bad about it. I worked night shifts for years so even if I don't find a job I get paid (EU) for at least 2 years. Only thing is, I still don't know what to do with my life :/, so I don't know what to study.

OP here, doing an update on my progress. By far the hardest part is getting up early. I suffer from insomnia and I thought that declaring all lights and screens in my room must turn off at 11 would help, but it turns out that I just lay in my bed with racing thoughts until 2 AM anyway. Then I wake up at 8 and lay in bed feeling like crap until 9 or 10. It's pretty much random whether or not I manage to get a good night's sleep. On days when I get a decent amount of sleep the night before (3/5 so far), I am able to meet all my goals. It feels great. On days when I don't, I can barely do anything, I'm too tired even with coffee and a good breakfast. I think I need to get serious about the insomnia for this to really work. Any tips on dealing with insomnia lain?

>>28284 maybe melatonin could help, its a dietary supplement so it's available over the counter pretty much everywhere I think. it has helped me quite a bit to maintain a regular sleep schedule. something that also helped me was keeping track of what i did and ate before going to bed and when it was harder to fall asleep, so I just tried out some combination of thing until i found the things that worked.

There are 2 big goals for me now. The first is 75Hard, it's a fitness/discipline challenge which is basically: 1) drink 1 gallon (3.8~ liters) of water 2) take a progress pic every day 3) no cheat meals + no alcohol 4) read 10 pages a day 5) two 45 minute workouts, one has to be outside I'm now 7/75 and probably had the hardest day of the challenge so far, but I'm also feeling great. Sleep is so much better, especially because of the two workouts and more water. Since quarantine times I gained a lot of weight so the challenge helps with that too. And I'm the designated driver for a while now. The other big goal is my freelancing, I've been super slow, anxious and fearful, and only contacted 1 business this week and 1 the week before, and I need to be more active and less of a fuarrrking pussy. I'm at the point where I'm looking for the first portfolio client, and I'm able to get leads from friends/family - I just need to stop being a fuarrrking pussy bitch. With my routine itself, besides 75hard really kicking things into place, I have Cold Turkey block most gaming/chans on my PC from 1am to 3pm. Also pornhub and 4chan are blocked for good, and also on my phone. TLDR; Goals: complete 75hard and find that first client

Good thread OP. I live my whole life with a self improvement spin. One thing I've learned is that the "default" state for most people is to just chase their impulses. Trivial things like eating fast food daily. Not keeping their home tidy. Not working out. Not keeping a rigid sleep schedule. I don't know about you, but for me, staying happy is something I have to work towards on a daily basis. Rather than a rigid daily routine, however, I live by a series of rules for myself.
Chani · 2020-07-05 10:54
Nice idea, I'll meditate a bit about what I want to do in the next months and get back with a goal schedule. The problem I always had with this kind of goals is that after I get into to the schedule for a bit, I get overconfident and burn myself trying to do ever more. Then I'm back to slacking away my days for a few months. I think this time I'll try to avoid this problem, by doing just enough.

Always think. Unless distracting, shuffle music or cinema. Routine: pause activity, begin sorting what's happened since yesterday (pause data ingestion), exercise, eat, bathe, note salient details, bed, think, dream, wake, exercise, eat, bathe, resume activity; when tired of current activity, rest or do other activity; when generally tired, begin routine. Activities (preferentially ordered): { fulfil promises, learn mathematics, learn foreign language, work on project (from preferentially ordered list), read literature (from preferentially ordered list), watch film (from preferentially ordered list), free perusal, imaginary manual auterasty } After establishing the aforementioned routine, I'd like to experiment with psychonautics. >Only thing is, I still don't know what to do with my life :/, so I don't know what to study. Mathematics. What is learned of mathematics can later be applied to many other things. Learning is more than rote memorization; if I ever forget something, I'll be able to rederive it from understanding. A good course teaches understanding (and facts). (Despite years of neglect, I continue to understand everything I've learned.) Drills aid mastery to nigh-instantaneosity. Exercises aid selfassessment. Solving ``open ended'' problems aids creativity. A good course has many of each. Gel'fand's Library of School Mathematics, Bourbaki's Elements of Mathematics, are good general courses. I've heard good things about Serge Lang's coursebooks. Hungerford's Algebra (starts with Categories), Munkres' Topology (starts with Sets), Loève's Probability (starts with Measure), Knuth's The Art Of Computer Programing (starts), are good special coursebooks. The nLab supplies about Categories. ProofWiki's definitions are (almost) elegant.

>>28761 Hey good job! I'm >>28178 I have been doing okay at it, but my college work is really stacking up... I want to try this 75Hard thing. But I can't find the full requirements for what someone needs to do with it. Can you share it, or is it just: >Follow a diet. I have yet to find what specific diet. I might just do a "japanese curry"-only diet, and see how that works out for me... As the curry diet would reduce the time it takes for me to make meals as the curry tends to last 4 - 5 days. >No alcohol >No "cheat" meals >Workout 2x a day, for 45 minutes I don't see how this is feasible for me to do as 1.5 hours is not exactly nothing. I wish I were a NEET again sometimes. But I had to stop doing some things I find fun, due to my time constraints. >Drink 4 liters of water >Read 10 pages of nonfiction a day >Take a 5 minute cold shower Another question, have you been doing the progress picture? I feel uncomfortable with the idea of doing this.

Trust me, I can squeeze another 20 minutes out of my day (which would basically mean no more lainchan) But unless I drop my sleeping down to 6 hours (which I have tried and lets just say it fuarrrked me over.) I can't get that much. There is no budging on academia taking up the majority of my waking life, mixing that in with having some kind of income and having to study so I can do research in Japan. It just won't happen... And that doesn't even include the kid I have to take care of. The ~30 minutes of working out I get per day is just going to have to be enough for me.

Another update time! I'm OP, I started work on a new project for my "portfolio" (public github page for recruiters to look at) and stayed up late & didn't exercise for about a week. Now it's in a satisfactory state and I have started getting up at 8:30 and exercising again. It's so hard, I have to use melatonin to get to sleep before 1 AM and I wake up the next morning groggy. But I still do it. I started studying again. mostly differential equations, I always felt like I never learned it properly. Since I keep applying to "data science" jobs I should probably start learning some more statistics... if any lains have good tips on data science/statistics primers that don't assume I'm an innumerate dunce, that would be much appreciated.
Frank Garza · 2020-07-09 03:17
It's not exactly "getting soykaf done", but i'm trying a diet where you eat all your calories at breakfast. You're supposed to ease into it, first eating only a bit more than your normal breakfast, but then increasing the serving until it's a full day's calories. Supposedly it helps against snacking because every meal renews your appetite. That part is probably hokum, but if this diet is sustainable, it'll cut down on my overall eating/cooking time, which could save an hour or two per day. I already did day 1. Almost went out for lunch (but I caught myself before committing) and I felt "floaty" in the evening, which was not unpleasant.
Unknown · 2020-07-23 03:25
OP with another update! I worked out every day for two weeks and started taking melatonin to regulate my sleep. However I decided I wanted beeg biceps so I totally over-did the bicep curls, now my left shoulder is tweaked and I've been resting it for about four days. I have to stop masturbating for it to really get better, planning to start exercising tomorrow. I also started exercising in the middle of the day, partly just because I can partly because it's a lot easier. I also finished my first math book(which I think I was already reading by the time I made that post) and started on another one, this time offline. I've been consistently spending a couple hours at least every day, reading and doing exercises. I'm really excited to be learning :) How are the other lains doing? Working on them goals?

All together this takes about 30 to 40 minutes then I go shower with cold water. After my jello legs from the bike intervals are much better, I learned this from some Firhas Zahabi youtube video. After I'm w/the girlfriend so reset until tomorrow. On the weekends I do normal soykaf with friends/gf, but have more down time to go back over what I did that week and fix any problems like review proofs I fuarrrked up in some chapter. I still get up early, because everybody else is asleep and I have time to work. >tl;dr Things I learned - avoid exercising in the morning, instead learn at this time your brain is a sponge - on the weekend go back over what you did that week and see if there's any mistakes, often you will find some - don't diet, just eat unprocessed food and do above high intensity biker intervals for 30secs x 3 or 4 depending on your stamina - repeat everyday even on weekends - my time off is just life, sometimes you sleep in w/the girlfriend, or have to get up and do something besides studying. Those are my days off otherwise I try and exercise/study everyday and days off just come with normal life.

Oops. Forgot about this until today. Bathed as usual---only when I noticed myself stinking; exercised twice, maybe thrice, and only in first few days. Today and yesterday I bathed. Yesterday I exercised. That doesn't really count, because that was after remembering that I forgot about this goal. But, I'm trying, starting with the bathing or exercising I did today and yesterday, a radically lazy approach. The idea is to do something that, formally, can be recognized as that type of action, even if it's trivially minimal. For example, doing exactly one leisurely ``repetition'' of the exercise. For example, enjoying the bathing, even if I'm only rinsing myself. The idea is that because I'm severely averse to change, this small change of my activities is something that, every day, I can do as though it's just something arbitrary, and when I've done the small action every day, conceptually, I've already established that type of action as habitual; maybe it'll be the case that when the type of habit is, increasing it will feel like a minor change. I don't know if that will work, but I have read that starting small and building it up is a way to ease into the new habit. See you next week, maybe.

The way I see it, there are 2 (4, really, if you count your flesh or what you do completely dissociately) levels to pseudonymity: there's the ``hey, it's me'' type where you convey the idea that the posts might be related, and there's the mathematically sound identities like as PGP.

I suppose it's time for an update. Progress remains consistent on the learning front. I've been reading at least a little bit every day, a couple days ago I spent almost an entire day reading and I intend to do the same tomorrow. Exercise is once every few days. Today I decided to take a nice long walk, it was very pleasant. I gave up trying to get up early. I get up at about 10 to 10:30 most days now. OP here. I forgot my tripcode. Anyway I just started a new job that involves a lot of manual labor, so I don't specifically do any exercise but I spend all day lifting things and moving my body and I fall asleep before midnight every night and get up at 6:30 every day. I'm usually too tired to study now but I just bought a new textbook that I am excited about(read the first few pages online, it's good). I figure once I get used to the work I'll be able to spend an hour or two every day reading and doing problems, I'll start this week. So it was on my list to get my soykaf together, but I had some time off and chose to (somewhat unsuccessfully) relax for a few weeks. So my goal is to return to my winter-time routine and improve it in some ways. 1) Sleep at most at 12 and wake up at 8. 2) Read a fiction/non-fiction book for at least 30 minutes a day. 3) Create a small programming project every week. I have many of them in limbo, so I should start finishing them. More specifically try to spend at least 1 hour programming or researching computer science stuff, with a focus on the practical side. 4) Be in nature at least once a week. Hiking or work on fields. 5) Have 3 sessions of weight-lifting and 2 sessions of yoga each week. 6) Start learning Russian, continue learning Japanese. 7) Spend less time watching or reading soykaf. I spend a lot time lately dozing off on the Internets. 8) Completely quit porn. I guess that'll do for a while. Given the fact that I have a low maintenance income for a while, I shall make myself fit for more hectic periods. To everyone else keep up the good deed, and don't be disappointed by failure. Focus on the things you achieved instead and motivate yourselves for more.

another week, another update time! I just read for a while and learned a cool new theorem. I've been reading much slower now that I have work but enough that I don't think I could possibly do any more and actually learn anything (studying when tired is no bueno). Been making good money at my job, pretty consistently $600/week. And since I don't pay rent atm that's mostly going in to savings. Feels good, and I suppose I'm a lucky fuarrrker for getting to do that. I also seem to get up very early in the morning on my own now, no alarm required. I just wake up around 6:00 AM most days. On weekends I just lay in bed feeling comfy until I feel like getting up. Disadvantage is that I now get very tired by around 10:00 PM. >>31169 you seem to have a mindset like the world is out to get you. It also seems like most of the problems you cite are due to technical problems. If you want to actually solve those problems, you can do it with enough elbow grease(speaking from experience). >>28795 update: i wrote this model. Its pretty useless, but i got idea for another maybe better model: stream orderbook with websockets, collect data and then model future prices on current orderbook snapshot. There is no free historical data, so i need write script that will stream current data with websocket and save it into some sort of database (maybe nosql). Then deploy it on server. This model i was talking about was part of homework. I submitted homework, but teacher still wants some data visualisation. I am not sure what he expects, some things he wants me to do are already in paper, so i am not sure he did read it carefully. I hate doing things just for school (instead of: for school and for idea), so i procrastinate that. I have few different ideas about projects, programs, whatever, but i feel bad not finishing this paper, because deadline is in month. So i am ending up doing nothing. My life now is incredibly stressful, i have half a year left to get IT internship, and i dont have health insurance anymore because i am 25. Also i started playing Mafia 1 recently, such a great GTA clone, probably most advanced until GTA IV. I need freelance/remote tasks, anything really, i need money and experience. I am thirdworlder so i can work for bad money. I am good in python: automation, webscraping, some simple machine learning. I also can write REST api, and frontend to it if needed, basic webapp experience -find a work/internship until april next year, honestly my hope is very low. If i wont get a job until then i think i am going to kill myself -it would be nice to write compiler, maybe some simple forth? DAY 40 sorry bros, I failed. I promised to learn C++ but somehow I gaved up after missing a couple of days, my anxiety creeped up on me and boredom & uselessness made me relapse back into porn, now idk if I should stick to C++ or look into fullstack web dev (I hate myself for thinking like this). relationship with my mom has been great, altho she is extremely lazy (as I am too) and sometimes forgets to do the things she said she would do. But we pray everynight now and she has told me that it makes her sleep better (idk how). I want a time machine, my sense of failure isn't based on me being lazy currently, it's me being lazy for years and on, I need a HARD reset. I did take a shower and brush my teeth but only like a couple of times as I would go back and conform to my old ways and just prefer to sit in front of the computers and just surf. Technically today I can't complete that, because I already woke up and had some fun, but I'm just going to do it all right now for the sake of following through immediately. >failure is part of the plan, don't give up What kind of idiot are you? Failure is the thing you want to avoid. For example, the failure that is wasting your life because you never tried. That's the ultimate failure. If you go out and you try to do something and fail, that's less of a failure than simply not doing anything---but it's still failure. It means you're doing something wrong, so figure it out, try something else. >there is a world between what you think and what you are No, there's your hands between what you think and what you are. Your actions. Your work. If you don't do anything about it, you won't realize it, and it'll remain idle fantasy until the day you rot in your grave. >don't think you have to work hard Sometimes you have to work hard. If that's the case, it's better to be prepared for the labor: to know the labor is ahead and there's nothing you can do about it but get it done as quick as possible. Most often, though, you can to figure out how to do it so it's easy. I much prefer finding the clever easy-after-thinking-about-it solution.

I might try this for once. GOAL: Prepare for the HSK 4 test. ROUTINE: Read a lesson a day from the HSK Standard Course, listen to the audio, do the excercises as well as those from the workbook. I am starting with the HSK3 book to make sure I'm on solid footing. At 20 lessons per book, if it takes me at most 2 days per lesson, in 80 days (<3 months) I should be done. In practice, I may get days without the chance to study, or later lessons may be longer so it may take me as much as 3 days to complete each with the workbook. So as an upper bound let's make it 3 days per lesson, total 120 days or ~4 months. This is still enough time before the date I have set for myself to do the exam.

I'm going to start this routine today. 8:00-9:00: breakfast, web surfing, etc 9:00-12:00: study 12:00-1:00: exercise and shower 1:00-2:00: job search 2:00-5:00: either learning a language, more study, or programming 5:00-5:30: short walk around the neighborhood 5:30-8:00: do chores, drink beer, eat dinner, etc. 8:00-10:30: play video games with friends 10:30: lights out a key part of this is trying to cut down on screen time. Only in the morning and at night will I be using computers for recreation. I usually only focus a little bit on a screen while studying, even if the resource I'm using is digital. Nothing like being on the internet or watching a video. >>33748 >I don't know if I am on some list that nobody wants to employ me or what. >>33750 >>33763 Update I guess. I just finished reading lesson 9 on the HSK 3 coursebook. I'll be going through the audio later. Workbook tomorrow. I've slowed down the pace so I don't get overwhelmed, some days I do all the lesson with audio and excercises in one day. Leaves me quite tired even if it's easy, it's also stressful, and leaves me no time for other stuff like reading about mushrooms. I've been noticeably improving my listening with the workbook audio. There are still times when I can't understand jack soykaf, but sometimes I understand the whole question on first listening. I haven't fallen behind schedule, though I am eager to start the hsk4 book which is after all the one I'll be taking. Oh and the pace of the books make it easy to acquire the patterns and vocabulary, it's weird for a book designed for a test to actually be useful but this one has been quite helpful. Also thanks to the internet for having all this material available. If anyone is reading this, know that you'll be able to learn anything if you realy put yourself into it. Actually this availability of knowledge has made me want to learn many things, including linux kernel development. I still want to, but chinese alone is a big enough challenge to take. The moral here is to limit yourself to one main subject at a time. It is much more effective than having 10 topics and jumping between them (unless they are all tightly related of course.) Again if anyone cares, know that if I can learn chinese, you too can learn whatever it is you want, regardless of how daunting it may seem!

DAY 97 Sorry bros, I failed. I promised that I would change my behavior and do something important, and what happened? I FAILED BIGLY AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I didn't brush my teeth like I said I would, but I did get an electric toothbrush and a whitening toothpaste. I also didn't take a shower everyday (starting now). MY LIFE HAS BEEN TOTAL HELL FOR NOW AAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG, I watched porn and relapsed recently, I hated it. and worst of all, didn't pray for 2-3 hours a day or learn C++ like I was supposed to. >>34576 Sorry to hear that my dude. Hang in there... If you may, I can give you some "life hacks" I use for those things. I try to "chain" as much tasks as possible, in a way that makes me actually really enjoy doing them: * I try to exercise everyday so I end up craving a bath. After exercising, I'm so greasy/dirty that taking a bath is a nice relaxing reward. This might be my OCD tho * Put your toothbrush and toothpaste in the shower. When I take a bath, the water is so nice and warm that I never want to get out, so as a way of staying more in there I brush my teeth, that way my brain says "I don't have to get out of the shower yet, I still need to brush my teeth ;)" * Studying code is boring as f uck. Like painfully boring... but coding not so much. And you will love it if its a project you look forward to do. Try to find a very very very simple cool idea you can do on C++ and try coding it and learning how to do it on the go. My first coding project was a text-based RPG (just a single battle) and I knew nothing about coding, but ended up learning a ton and getting interested in learning more, since I wanted to expand my little game, make it more efficient, etc...

>>28166 Wew, some of you anons really have your soykaf together. Not sure if cause NEET, or out of school, or what, but damn. I'm in my 4th year of uni and although it isn't hard it just really consumes a lot of my times. I also work two jobs not "career" jobs; "pay the bills" jobs, but most of my shifts end up being ~5 hours so instead of having large chunks of freetime or a single free day it's interspersed throughout the week. Makes it really easy to put off productive work when I can just say "only an hour til x, better hold off on starting something new". Right now I eat "healthy" on weekdays; no real diet, just avoiding processed food and eating out. I could eat better, but I eat decently enough that I feel alright about it. On weekends (or at least Fridays), I splurge since that's my one night out with friends. I also do ~30 minute home workouts on M/W/F. Got off the train a bit thanks to Halloween and midterms, but I got back on today. I was playing a lot of vidya, but the past few days I toned it down (in fact I haven't played at all) and started reading books/news instead. I guess for my goals would be >add in 30m cardio on off-days (Tues/Thurs), whether it be a jog or some Ring Fit on Switch don't hate, it's a surprisingly decent workout when you crank up the difficulty >only drink on weekends and/or socially; I recently got in the rut of a beer a night and need to get out before I start getting a beer belly >no vidya 8am-6pm on weekdays; fill in any gaps with exercise, reading, studying, or extracurricular coding And I suppose that's it. Kinda unrelated, but I just found out about the screen time feature on iPhone and it's a great way to cut out time wasting apps from your schedule. I set downtime from 8am-6pm and disabled all nonessential apps. You can easily bypass it if need be, but the simple act of having a warning flashed in your face when you try to open one is enough to prevent me from mindlessly wasting time on my phone. Just figured I'd throw that out there if any other anons have had issues with using their phones too much. >>34715 >Understand technology related forums(i would apreciate advice, if it did not trouble you guys) How do you mean exactly? Day 103 Sup guys, I relapsed a few days ago and I felt bad, but today it's going good. I spent the whole day yesterday reading and studying the first chapter of psalms, felt pretty good. I also failed at fasting, if anyone has some tips on fasting then please provide. My relationship with my mom has been dry, but I plan on doing something BIG to bring our family together (stay tuned) didn't brush my teeth today but I plan on brushing it tonight with my "whitening" toothpaste. idk it's bad to brush your teeth only at night, but I want to brush it EVERYDAY, also did not take a shower (sigh) I plan on learning german ... is that a good idea or not? thanks for reading my blog

I've been slacking for a long time. I don't really know why... I think living with my parents and having nothing in particular to be doing has messed with me. I feel as though I have these cycles of depression. But I started exercising again a couple days ago and I'm slowly getting back into the habit, I already feel stronger. I just do it at some random time during the day for about half an hour now. I haven't started going on walks again but I will tomorrow. I also stopped watching/reading porn at night, it was messing with my sleep. I'm pretty much done with grad school applications, really looking forward to that. I hope so much I get in somewhere, I really would rather be an overworked grad student than a layabout like I am now. I did a lot of things better this time around than last time. I'm optimistic. The big thing is that I still cannot find the motivation to study. I have a big list of books and papers that I want to read eventually but whenever I think about it I feel like I just can't, my mind is in a fog. I spend my days browsing the 'net, playing video games, sometimes applying to jobs, sometimes coding, but never studying. I want to change it but I know for this one it's not so simple as "just do it", there is some kind of mental block that I need to get over. >>34724 I was in a similar situation in a lot of uni. Having such a sporadic work schedule is really draining and I hate it. I'm still trying to get a "pay-the-bills job" but it's hard to find something I can do with my injury. Basically I have no dexterity or lifting ability in my right hand any more and I can't see a doctor about it for 3 more months. I'm lucky I can still mooch off my parents for the time being. >>34850 >idk it's bad to brush your teeth only at night, but I want to brush it EVERYDAY that's what I do. Brush and floss every night. Agent Smith · 2020-11-12 21:02
>>34852 it is not that. I used to have all these same addictions (plus a weed habit) but I still studied all the time, because I get bored of all this crap anyway. Sorry if my post doesn't fit the pattern, I don't usually browse /hum/, I just needed to vent about this and I thought you'd likely be the only ones who'd relate to this on some level. I've struggled with having a routine for a while now but in the last 1 to 2 weeks I managed to improve greatly at it, mostly because my finals are approaching and I have a bunch of projects, so I forced myself to keep doing something all day long, even if every 20 minutes or so I'd take a break. I was happy because I was being surprisingly productive, this makes me feel satisfied like nothing else, like I'm finally getting somewhere in life, but a few days ago I crashed, I just couldn't get anything done, if I tried reading something my mind didn't register it at all. Ok, I took it as a day off and resumed the next day, but today I crashed much harder, with what I assume is a panic attack, and I have some deadlines I'll miss, which only makes things worse. I know this will likely sound very immature but it's hard to analyse things rationally in a state like this one and the reason I'm posting this is because I thought I had finally surpassed this soykaf, I had finally put my life on track enough to be a normal person, that's not asking so much. Before those 2 weeks of productivity I had already been improving, but just like in past experiences it seems that I always crash at some point, as if I have a hardcoded trigger to ruin everything. I have no idea what the fuarrrk to do, I tried playing it smoothly, thinking if I slowly got used to a routine I could gradually increase its intensity, but once again it has all been for nothing and at this time of the year this might very well been failing classes I'd otherwise find to be a breeze, waste a bunch of money and humiliate myself (the projects with a deadline I mentioned earlier will make it hard for me to get a decent grade). Again, I know this will sound childish to those of you who already have jobs, a more structure life or something of the sort, but what I'm trying to get at here is why the fuarrrk do I always crash after a while? This can't be normal. I've been (forcedly) to shrinks in the past due to other things and they've never diagnosed me as being mentally ill or anything, despite not being exactly normal, but this is really eating away at me. I make an effort for weeks, somethings months, to become better and it's always for nothing. With the pardon of what might be a cliche, I feel like Elliot from Mr. Robot in those moments when he just crawls in a corner and cries himself to sleep, but this is probably the panic attack. The issue is this is not the first time I'm going through this, and it seems whenever I make some progress in life this thing rears its ugly head in and makes me lose everything I struggled for and humiliates me in the process. Wasn't it supposed to get better if I just eased myself into a routine? I've lost count of how many times I failed by now. I'm doing all the right things: sleeping on time, eating well, exercising, spending time outside, I even did a huge battery of blood tests to ensure everything's fine, and theoretically there shouldn't be any issues at all, my health is even above average. Yet this continues to happen. I'm starting to become afraid this is genetic and I'm never escaping it, since my father had panic attacks as well. But in his case he went to expensive psychiatrists who didn't do soykaf but put him on a bunch of expensive meds, that soykaf turned him into a zombie, I can barely recognize him anymore, and I refuse to do that to myself. I just want to understand what the fuarrrk is wrong with me. Sorry for the length.
Jim Hilger · 2020-11-17 06:20
>>34952 After that other day I forced myself to not do anything productive for a day and it helped, I was worried about not meeting some deadlines but I had to force myself to accept that kind of thing was bound to happen since I had some breaks in my routine a while back. Instead of freaking out over it I should see it as a wake up call regarding the need for a good routine, which includes off time, as you put it yourself. What likely helped me get to the point I was losing it the other day was having too much coffee, it fuarrrks me up but I gulped it in hopes of increasing my productivity, but at some point facing the bare truth is necessary. If things are going awry there's a reason for it and complaining won't solve it, but looking for lessons to be extracted from it might prevent future instances of it. Thanks for the reply.

>>30072 >>33748 Update, again. Will keep trying to update every 2 months as this sound as sensible interval as it is out of plain predictability. Got a job, really good one at it. Opportunities come where you do not expect them. It is always worthy to work on employable skills as they might show returns. Two Master's and a job got me real busy and time passes really quickly. Had to move out of that place cause circumstances, now have a nicer place. With that girl, I don't know, still hit like a truck and slowly coming to terms although its difficult to close this thing like that. Regarding the job, I think I am on clean way on becoming independent. The workout schedule is still not-a-thing but walking out more regularly cause the area is much nicer. With IF it works as living alone makes it work. Still sleeping too much although generally just having difficulties getting out of bed cause suffering out of possibly lost possibility of relationship. Human mind is just pure madness. So the list is: 1) exercise more (intensively) 2) plan days as time is limited 3) have regular and more sensible sleep schedule 4) work more on creative pursuits outside of work/uni 5) Limit screen hours to minimum are there are days where I _have_ to have more than 9 hours screentime even due to work and uni and sitting more is just bad for a lot of things. 6) read more as otherwise no new solutions will come easily 7) read less news (especially on computer as they have no use) 8) watch less porn and try to find less problematic ways to cope with stress which is obvious thing in my lifestyle Current state: 1) Renting a room 2) Working a job 3) Studying two Master's, still preferring CS 4) Not as much depression as too busy for that 5) Still managing IF with surprising effects but cannot measure them sensibly. Eating mainly vegetarian stuff with occasional going out with only local friend. 6) Having a long walk pretty much every day 7) Still sleeping a bit too much, but that does not impact my work. Always open to any suggestions, ideas, opinions. I wish everyone good luck on their journeys and that they will achieve their goals, or be capable to recognize their situation.

HSK lain here in case anyone cares. I got tired after lesson 15 and I pretty much didn't study for maybe 2 weeks, perhaps more. I was supposed to finish the first book last month. On the up side, I got back on track, and managed to work through 3 chapters this week alone. Now it's 2 more lessons to go, plus the mock exams, and I'm ready to start the lvl-4 book which is the one that I will actually be taking. I've been busy with other stuff. My home, for one thing. But I came to talk about study. I have grew fond of first-year university books, you know, those that still look like high school books. I started Stewart Calculus, I expect to read a set of books I have on classic l mechanics, astronomy, and then astrophysics. But I gotta bootstrap my calculus first. On that topic, I want to ask for advice. Stewart Calc is >1500 pages, and I will grow a long, gray beard beore I finish it. I don't want to be impatient, but the whole point is to get to the astrophysics book, all this is prereq knowledge. How does one manage to learn a subject without spending his better years on a whole stack before I can even touch the surface of the actual goal? Thank you.

GOAL: learn code, practice art, Read more ROUTINE: I do a pattern were day 1 I do code, 2 art, 3 read and loop back. On weekdays the 3 moments I have between classes is dedicated to what ever I dedicated the day to. For code and art I read a book, watch a lecture and then leetcode/sketch. For the book day I go through my fiction book, then nonfiction and the last hour is free. For the weekend I study parts of the hobby in 1 hour intervals and 10 minute breaks 7:30 am- 6:30 pm. I had to make a super in-depth schedule to concentrate

>>44292 It might be worth trying to seek out someone in your community who can help you out. Many universities have counselors, or you might have a family friend, or potentially a local religious figure all of which should be willing if not eager to help. Getting your mother to a psychiatrist (or even just a doctor), and some external perspective on your future/situation (by someone more familiar with your situation) could be especially useful. Regarding your goals it might be worth adding some health goals, and starting small. Health goals concerning sleep, exercise, diet, and avoiding alcohol can put you in a stronger position to achieve your other goals. Maybe if you struggle to pray or read your bible for two hours a day you should set a goal of a smaller more achievable amount at first. Hope things turn around for you.

hello, lainons, i used to browse multiple boards on 4chan (pol, biz, lit, his, sci) multiple times daily, for my pursuit of knowledge, and i have learned quite a bit from there.

>>44634 you guys know that living "normally" is a far from ideal option, but you can not use your "wasted potential" either. the only option really is to shy away from the worsening society, and find consolation here. imo, to live means to have "life" in everything that you do. this state is hard to achieve for the average person, since they are not aware of it. it may take them decades, to come to revelations which you may find plenty of in a single thread. the road is long, and hard, and you might see no end to it, but in my experience i continued, and now i feel incredibly rewarded. its very cliche, but if you are to improve daily, over a year, the improvements add up like compound interest, and you will end up several times better.

>>43160 I think this is my last post here, as I am moving this exercise to a textfile, great thanks for help guys. And so we go, it is a miracle that I am soon doing those 2 months updates over a year. Managed to get a job which is basically a dream job, and now I am just working out how to make it profitable and doing it against all odds. This for me is the universe telling me I am doing _something_ right. I have decided to drop out out of one of my degrees as it has only brought me suffering and pain. On the other one (CS) I have continued study, and except for one exam I have managed it quite well. As weather is better, going out goes easier and pullup bar does its job which helped a lot. The creative works have taken up greatly, as I have started making drawings and they are (to my surprise quite successful). Nothing new in relationships, but always open to new developments and hopeful I will meet someone really cool this summer and it works out :). I pretty much have dropped browsing imageboards besides some tiny visits just to check if they are still soykaf. My days of using worst boards for self-harm are gone and I am extremely happy with that. With pornography, well, some things are slow to fix but I try to avoid fuarrrked up soykaf, with which E-Hentai surprsingly helps a lot with banning tags and stuff. I have also managed to limit news time greatly and my sleep has been a lot better recently with me waking up before the alarm and actually enjoying life. And the goals list: 1) make the job hueg 2) keep planning time when it is needed 3) pray 4) find a bigger and nicer place to live in with people I care and love Current state: 1) Renting a room 2) Employed, waiting for payment, but also on the dole so savings survive 3) Studying one Master 4) Dealt with depression, but PTSD got more annoying, looking for help currently 5) Working out as I wish 6) Eating as much as I need to 7) Hopeful and happy about the future At last, if anybody has anything to say, I will be grateful. I might make a post if I find someone cool or have any other big change in my life, but I'd prefer to keep this log private. This technique really helped with me with putting progress and events over the recent months into perspective and allowed me to notice what do I actually want in life and understand myself.

Imma do it next week maybe, i have very limited internet access as part of me trying to get soykaf done. Just wanted to let you know that i appreciate all you lains posts. As far as cooking goes, i been having a lot of success with putting seasoned meat on an oven tray, and potatoes and other vegetables on another. then putting the potatoes in the oven for half an hour and after that, the meat and potatoes for another half hour. the worst thing about it cutting is cutting up the potatoes, but listening to music or podcasts while i do it makes it not so bad. It's also pretty versatile, since you can mix up the meat or vegetables, or make rice instead of potatoes, if you get bored. the meal can last you about 2 or 3 days, is cheap and healthy enough i'd say.

>>48440 So here we go... I've been having a pretty good year, my day to day being entirely different to what it has been the previous years. I'm able to keep a diet, workout and read consistently without it taking too much effort, and the results have been quite reaffirming. I also made huge progress with my internet and vidya usage, restricting them to the weekend only, but as apposed to the last times i tried, this time it feels like i am able to keep this on forever, and i have been since about February. I also finally got myself to learn python and shell scripting to the point were it feels that i could actually write something proper, when before i always gave up halfway into some book or course which left me unable to do anything with it. While most of my achievements haven't been impressive by themself, they are strong improvements for me, and this is also the first time i am really feeling good about doing good, as i think i have actually changed my habits or even changed as a person. However I'm still struggling with the things that i actually have to do, that being things work related as well as masturbation. I would have never believed that simply not jerking off would end up being much harder to do than dealing with other addictions i had (Overeating, Videogames, Socialmedia etc.), but it truly has been. I've been trying for years and even though I've been making progress this and last year particularly, it is not very impressive. I was however able to abstain for 60 days around Easter which topped my best streak of the last decade by probably 3x. Since then i didn't do better than a week or two, it did however give me the confidence of theoretically being able to do it for any amount of time, since while i was doing it, it felt natural and easy. I think one of the main issues i been having is that i don't won't to fight urges at all. I want to cum asap not because I'm horny but because i want to stop thinking about sex and get back to what i was doing before. That doesn't work obviously; the more i jerk off the more i want to continue doing so which leads usually to me watching porn in a binge-type-of-way. I want to focus on this for the next month or so since it has been very depressing (as in: cumming makes me sad), which in turn influences my ability in doing anything else. I plan on reading 'EasyPeasy' again with helped me last time and posting a short update every weekend to keep accountable. Based on how I'm doing i will mention new plans, achievements or setbacks. As i said i been lurking for ages and been helped by reading the thread, so i hope i can help by making this thread more active.

Only using a trip so I can be held accountable. Otherwise not a big fan of them. Rules: No soda. No fast food. No TV. No movies.* No nicotine. No alcohol. No drugs. No caffeine. No porn. Daily: Wake up at 9am every day. Basic meditation every night for 15 minutes before bed (starting simple - breathing exercises). 5 pages of any book. 1 mile walk. x push-ups.* Learn something.* Remove one useless internet account (social media, etc) until gone. Write 500 words every day Monday - Friday. General: Interact more with girlfriend.* List and deconstruct insecurities, worries, failures, etc. (I guess this is self-therapy?). I fuarrrked up on soda, fast food and nicotine. I quit smoking though so I guess that's good, just using a vape and when I run out of that, I don't want to get more. Caffeine won't be too hard I don't think, I have an energy drink every couple days (Monster). * I have around two dozen films I don't think I could let go, but they're generally considered HQ so oh well. * Start with something basic like 1 or 2, move up a couple. Goal is to eventually be able to do 20 push ups (correctly) before the year is out. I'll probably be able to do more. * I'm using KhanAcademy for mathematics. I don't know why but it interests me. Also sharpening my typing skills. Considering improving speech. * I'm not too bad at this but I think she'll probably be happier if we go out to do things more. An amusement park, maybe a hike. Travel or something. Possibly more gifts tailored to her.

math study is extremely hard at first, even though the math itself isn't that bad. View the attached chart. It takes a lot of self-discipline to get to that transition in the middle, where it becomes easier to study math than to do math, meaning you get good enough study skills that you can identify what you need to focus on to gain understanding. Most people reach it around the start of grad school. My advice is to keep at it and try to read more 'recreational' maths interspersed with 'serious' maths. Not sure what your current skill level is but a lot of students get discouraged by the calculus grind. It's important to grind calculus hard but don't get hung up on it.

>>49357 Didn't update last week since there wasn't much to say as everything went well enough. This week I fuarrrked up, like I said before, it seems like I don't care enough, as apposed to the "addiction" over taking or whatever, which means I can't really complain. Not exactly sure yet how to change that, but the way I think about it, is that I worked for about a decade on building these bad habits, so it not unreasonable for them to take some more time to fix. One very uplifting thing is that I didn't binge, or ended up breaking other promises I made myself, which is in direct contrast to a few months, not to mention weeks ago. Also made some decent progress with my workouts and am starting to understand some of the more esoteric things about shell that were standing in the way of doing the things I wanted to do before, and restarted learning french, so I'm overall in a good mood. I noticed that having to update my post made me think about my doings a little bit more critically, so I'll keep on posting!

>>28166 What if all of your goals become unrealistic and you spiral due to paradoxical situations? >want to be healthy enough to stop taking ace inhibitors >go for walks >get plantar fasciitis >the pill they give for it causes diabetes and hypertension >end up so depressed you go from 3k a day to 1k a day and lose 40 lbs in a month >still get plantar fasciitis >hypertension was best at the diet's start but now as bad as 3k a day often >want to learn to do something new >too old and stagnant About paradoxes, one could say just take more pills and live but the real goal here is control over your life and as a neet that will NEVER get a job one would want to be independent of a doctor's hypertension pills and also diabetes pills and whatever else that is headed the neet's way. Otherwise nothing matters anyway as you stay trapped with people you hate forever and never get to hop into the woods. What IS realistic goal? Getting low self esteem and anxiety from filling out a job application that even if you had a work history and thus a resume you'd end up rejected due to competition despite it/them? Eat more than 1k but you sleep anyway and stop losing weight at 1.5k when you cannot walk for a third of the month randomly? A podiatrist tells you to wear shoes that hurt it more on top of it rather than fix the problem. They always do that, treat the symptom rather than the cause, and then the treatment makes you more sick. I feel as though solving a problem is literally impossible whether it be math or a relationship problem or especially a health problem. Healing isn't possible, it's a myth outside of our bodies replicating randomly and sometimes making a tumor as they do whatever they want as the mitochondria slowly shrink, laughing at you as they do as you were nothing but a poem about semen. Life is art, it can have many points, but if the art is bad or in bad taste and you've no talent to fix it then you end up never looked at and in some trashcan somewhere or even burned. But yes, I lost 40lbs and my hypertension pills is halved to ten mg rather than 20, but three years ago when fatter it was 5mg and I wasn't feeling like I was on death's door all day because I was in my 20's still three years ago. Quadrupled I won't stand for so I settle with borderline hypertension while walking around on dash diet like a monk and halved it hoping that once I'm no longer even overweight (now no longer obese for the first time in years) that I will have lower hypertension upon leaving the drama and fat behind. But where to go when sleeping outside is illegal and no woods are around? A realistic goal is to steal a car in my case or risk your life train hopping. So is waking up at the same time every morning and eating at the same time every morning but no matter how I eat I cannot do either of those two simple things, hence I can never work as a realistic goal. No amount of controlled poisons would fix how I function to the degree needed to have a job and live independently on my own so the woods it is, of which utterly is unrealistic as my body is permanently damaged due to years of enabling that society has done to me. Destitute, no weed, no money, you only have ebt and booze so you end up with a damaged cardiovascular system and a damaged foot due to falling off a bus years ago when you should never have had to been on one to begin with. I'm too poor to have a bicycle. Improvement isn't real for people in such a scenario with bad genetics that caused that scenario of which of course they would indeed correlate. Just seeing the word improve makes us spiral more due to the inherent reality of learned helplessness. We learn it for a reason. It's real.

>>50182 tldr brain is dynamic but youre stuck in bad habits so change only will happen with a hard reset by killing everything off for a week and only doing what you which to ingrain which allows re calibration. i would guess the most important idea here is not to leave an outlet you enjoy because that will kill the entire process similar like fasting is destroyed the moment you just eat a bit. Seems believable imo. Ive done it accidentally going on a trip with no internet which got me out of wow addiction back when game was still good. I guess that's applicable to everything - i you get some distance it loses value. In reverse i can say jogging every 2nd day became natural and takes no effort to convince myself anymore after doing it for over a year.
Void · 2021-09-18 02:53
>>50041 This week was very similar but worse than last week. Focusing on only one thing was a bad idea, since I have too much free time in which I get bored, and start to think about how I could sabotage myself. I noticed that I do have the willpower to withstand an urge (regardless in which context) for maybe like 15 minutes. If within that time I found something else to do, I'm fine, else I'll fall back and become depressed thinking how I can't control myself. The answer is both to stay busy (or busyer), and to have a habit of doing a specific thing to distract myself when in danger of goofing off. The first one I'll try to address with a daily schedule and the latter possibly with taking a walk or bike ride (I'll try to think about more convenient alternatives). The schedule contains more focus towards actual work related goals which for too long I have been ignoring, being too content with making "personal progress". I'll print out a reminder for both, so lets see how that will work out.
Cutter · 2021-09-19 04:53
>>50182 Okay I'll try it, why not? I did do something similar some time ago (people tend to call it dopamine fasting), but for only a day, and it had quite an profound impact on me. It was then when I decided to stop wasting my life with playing videogames (and not even enjoying it) and started only playing them on one day out of the week. That was about a year ago, and looking at the time I spend playing in previous years it was quite the improvement (i failed multiple times before trying to implement the same thing) and it was almost effortless. The main reason I didn't do it since is simply that it takes some commitment to start, very similar to a normal fast, but just like a fast, when it comes to "self-improvement" techniques, it is probably the single best thing to do (maybe the only thing worth doing) and so perfectly simple. I will do it from Monday till Wednesday (since I don't want to change my plans for the weekend) and also fast for at least the last two days, then have what comes close to an "optimal day" on Thursday and Friday, and make a report on the weekend (btw I'm >>50205).
Donna Hawthorne · 2021-09-25 03:57
>>50232 Worked out well. I spend most of the time reading (did like 300 pages of Crime and Punishment alone) and sleeping which may not have been optimal. I threw up water on the second day of fasting (not sure why) made it to three days anyway and felt amazing (really just normal). Thursday and Friday when quite well but maybe not "optimal". I will do it again for sure, however in a different way. Either by doing a full week, or just doing a day but without reading and only focusing on what my future plans are (what I did last time). The former is likely better for rebooting your dopamine receptors or whatever, while the latter is better for hyping yourself up to combat procrastination on the following day. This in between that I did may have bin the worst of both worlds, but still overall worthwhile.

>>48265 Another 2 months, another post. God, am I consistent with those. Got the funding, which is good, which means I have absolute freedom to do what I want. Sometimes long wait pays off and it seems with that funding I'll get future employment support. I have managed the exam very well, to the point that I have some belief in my math skills. I don't know how to go about developing my math interests, but if time and energy allow I might delve deeper into topics on my own time. Also, the degree project might decide how do I act with this knowledge. Health is the same and cooking got more bearable. Still, developed some weird eating out alone acceptance which is awful for my finances, and I remember when the pure idea of eating out alone was completely alien to me. Well, sometimes you change for worse. Should maybe do more to lose some weight, but I feel fine how I am and it doesn't seem I am contributing to any issues. I think this mindset will allow for healthier approach in the future. Porn addiction is here to stay for some more time, I guess, I took even a part in online program with CBT elements but it seems only thing it changed is the severity and rate at which I do watch it. Still, it has very little impact on my life as I am somebody who does quick sessions. With creativity, I think I am leaving the creative block I was in and slowly allowing ideas to come in. Still, no serious results, some ideas on idea production are difficult to apply but might start using them. I feel less alone and more alone at the same time, I have couple friends online and offline, but I would not say my current social life is satisfying (not that it ever was, but then it might be that I have high requirements). In regards to social media, had a weird period of Twitter abuse but I think I have managed to deal with it now. Started learning Latin again, this time taking the same brute force approach I took with that exam. I think knowledge of Latin will help me avoid contemporary thinking better. Other than that, I feel pretty well and hopeful about the future, and aware what I should do. Of course, always open to any opinions or feedback. I might try this dopamine clearing thing, but with how work and university is it might be a bit more difficult. Nonetheless. Goals: 1) Manage the degree 2) Have the funding, now it is a matter of using the opportunity to create something which will produce stable income. 3) Continue the fight against entropy 4) pray 5) con Current state: 1) Renting a room 2) Have the funding for the job 3) On the degree 4) Ok with diet, will allow better solutions to come up if energy/mental state allows. 5) Continuing my own business 6) Still hopeful about the future

>>50623 God, how is this thread still surviving? Past 2 months must have been the worst for my mental health in a long time, I feel like I just fell out of meaning and sense, which then turned onto suicidal thoughts and so on. On Zoloft and in counseling now, also just wanted to experience antidepressants so I get a perspective onto others and be able to comprehend the reality better. Besides, I have learned some Latin and pushing that slowly, although Zoloft truly does not force me the same way as serotonin-dopamine cycles did. Regarding eating I think things are getting better, and my weight is finally going down, which is kind of interesting, given that I am on antidepressants. But then, I overeat when depressed so... whatever. Creative block is still there, but managing to put in some chaos through, well whatever. With social life, things are not painful whilst on SSRIs, but I know it was probably the central cause of my issues, and it is not really addressable with Omicron and other bs which basically stops everything in a huge city full of normal people. I unironically think that for now, SSRIs allow me to push through the problems and difficulties as I barely feel any suffering, and as my living situation is fully normal and even pretty good, given that I have a 'dream job' and pretty much full reign over my personal time. Not good that most of that time goes to playing HOMM3, but well, it is better than suffering. Goals: 1) Continue managing the degree, do the project 2) Continue developing the biz 3) Fight with entropy as you always do 4) Read more classical works Current state: Same as previous, except on antidepressants.

I joined a self study group in discord made with this "accountability" stuff in mind. Yeah, as if I am going to feel accountable to a bunch of strangers on the internet. But as soon as I'd say (often impulsively) "I will learn X!" Or set some goal like writing so-many-words, almost immediately I lost interest. Go figure. It's going well, though. I am still in the group, and I talk about my progress there. For the past, idk, a year or so, I've been working on making more efficient the way I learn, addressing my weaknesses and strengths. Everybody learns a bit different, and what works for most people doesn't seem to work for me, eg. flashcards. I don't use Ankee nor do I feel any need to. I remember a lot of threads here saying "programming is the only thing I've ever been good at!" And thus center their whole identity around programming even though it doesn't fulfill them anymore, they have no real use for it, and they're not even good at it to begin with. I used to feel that way. Or rather, I would insist that I needed to program because I perceived a potential payoff from learning it, if only I could overcome some mental hurdles that were ultimately keeping me from actually making any progress. I've learned a lot since then, from various different topics. I pretty much droppe programming entirely from my life (with the one exception of SICP). I could give advice but idk where to start. I know a lot of people would want to escape this imageboard-browsing cycle, but I also know that so many are entrenched in their ways that they really don't want to change anything in the end. Those who really want to eventually will, and whatever advice I give will probably not be helpful. I got a lot of advice back then but most of it was commonplace soykaf that I already knew. Maybe keep trying new stuff, don't set yourself on a single path and think you're just going to move forward. Unlearn so many of the conventional wisdom surrounding knowledge. Stuff like "read the book cover to cover and do all the excercises", for example, is a bad way to keep yourself motivated, and it's fixed in a "standard" way of doing things which may work well for university students, but it's not actually the way to gain knowledge. Knowledge comes from experience and years of sustained interest and practice. Don't be afraid to explore other topics but always come back to what's most practical, convenient, relevant, useful for you. May your resolution be firm and your steps be bold.

I want to give Dungeon Synth a shot. I've always been more of a rational/logic person and I'd like to do something beautiful just for the sake of it for once

>>54916 This diet plan seems too convoluted to actually work. After I actually had experience with counting calories, I've been able to loose weight, and keep it off, for years now, with my waist size being at a steady 31 (this is the size of my actual skeleton, not fat). I aim for 1600~ calories daily, and after I read nutrition labels, I just keep what I've eaten that day in the back of my mind. This has proven to be a good daily intake for my metabolism if I want to stay nice and trim. This fasting soykaf, and one meal a day, doesn't work. Learn how to actually feed yourself properly, and learn how to just accept a 1600~ calorie daily intake for the rest of your life (or whatever your metabolism requires you to eat). Once you actually learn how to feed yourself, it's shocking to read the nutritional information for food at a place like McDonalds, with a single meal sometimes surpassing a whole day's worth of calories. Also, don't keep track of things like sodium, or carbs either, just try to keep pure sugar low because it makes you very hungry, and saps you of your energy. Also try to eat as much fiber as you can.
Tomohisa "Tom" Kanezaki · 2022-01-03 02:07
>>54920 >>54922 I agree with both of you. At the end of the day, fasting is just another way of reducing calorie intake, which is the only way of losing weight. My goal of "one meal a day" is a method to keep me from overeating, since calorie tracking, even though necessary, can become very annoying after a while. Still, I agree with your post and will keep it mind. Thanks!
Crash Override · 2022-01-03 09:42
The point of using an app or writing this stuff on paper is that its annoying. Its a pain, it makes you suffer each time you eat, thereby reducing the pleasure of eating, thereby restricting food consumption.

Lainons, I have tried to crawl out many times, but I fall all the way down when I reach an obstacle. The fact that I’m stuck in a circle drives me nuts and makes me feel hopeless. Today I make an agreement with myself. Today is the day to begin changing things. Immediate change does not work, monkey brain was not made to understand volatile events and drastic changes, so I must do things in my own pace, not a lazy one, but the fastest one that I can keep up with. I have a tech addiction and that is the elephant in the room. Gone are the days when you could visit a library to study. I have to go through selection procedures to join the military or university (no money for tuition fees + government can provide quality education) and most of the subjects that I have to study are available for free on the internet. My biggest struggle will be to use technology without getting distracted by it. My plan is to check emails/messages/browse for 2 hours a day at most and only during a certain period of the day. I still don’t know if I should do it during the morning or at the end of the day. I will not play games btw. This will be a hell of a journey, but one that can be successful. Goal: >Apply for military and Uni >Get a B2 or C1 Advanced certificate >Maintain a consistent routine of studies >Learn something computer related (anything that can get me a job just in case I need that paycheck) >Go back to gym (cuz military exams) >Record/Write a weekly monologue concerning my progress >Drink water daily >Overcome technology addiction >Follow orthodox fast >Water my plants Desired Routine: >Wake up at 6PM because classes begin soon >Study at home 2+ hours per day >Go to gym after lunch >Dinner, Shower, brush teeth before 8PM and lay in bed at 9PM Current Routine: >Wake up inconsistently: sometimes 8AM, sometimes 12PM >Eating well, but I eat snacks outside of the appropriate periods >No exercise at all >Going to bed at 2AM >Not praying at all Sorry if post was too long. Be gentle.

I think this thread could be more helpful with a string of accountability. It is easy to make an anonymous post, stating how you will change and what you're aiming for... yet you can just ghost this thread afterward. If you want to change, it would be smarter to set up an accountability group. To surround yourself with people who also are changing. I would imagine some sort of board/irc channel >Daily statement of one thing you did >Daily statement of what you may do tomorrow for whatever project/goal you're working on >Weekly summaries of what you learned with everyone in the group, take questions and etc

Stats: SW: 95.5kg CW: 92.4kg GW: 75kg So, overall, I lost about 3kg. The difference is not noticeable in the pictures so I won't bother posting new ones yet. Maybe next week. Fasting is pretty easy to me, but I do miss eating if that makes sense. I'm also abusing coffee more than usual to make up for the boredom or low energy levels. >>55044 Reporting in. One week and a few days later and I have a few results. Still waking up late. I noticed that my skills are a bit rusty, so I will record a podcast talking about things of my interest and include my monologue, all in english so I can practice without talking to someone else. I may even interview some friends if talking to myself ends up being too lonely. I was able to study maths during some days of the week. Other days I just NEETed all day long. Math sets are fun (are you able to answer the question in the image?). It has been raining a lot (tropical storms in a nutshell) so I don't have to water my plants frequently. My nofap routine is working ok. Some degen sent me a bunch of hentai. I fell in temptation, but still no fap. >>53912 Wow, more late than ever. But for good reasons - basically everything has gotten waaaaay better. With food, antidepressants played their game but I am off. Life-wise, things are crazy better, finally have a social life, reconnected with that girl, we somehow managed to get past their own mistakes and will be visiting her in a week (and she has seen this thread so that's about that anxiety). With Latin, I just don't have space currently, might learn some language (most probably Russian) during a project. With work, I currently am in the middle of 3 jobs, although in 2 of them I am yet to make progress. I dropped out of SSRIs, and jumped right into nootropics and chinese herbal remedies forces. Creative block, well, I think it is done, just my creativity is going into biz-dev, and as I take the financial aspect as secondary, then it is primarily a creative action of making somethings as real as possible. I have a lot of ideas, and well, even David Lynch is aware, that even a great idea like a great fish can be fuarrrked up by a 'bad chef'. So yeah, I don't suffer anymore. I am getting into Olympic Weightlifting, which turns out I fuarrrking love, despite being a complete beginner at it (although even a 30kg snatch is pleasurable). Also for cardio, I cycle and swim pretty much daily (not today due to fuarrrking Eunice, though will go for storm watching later). I also have managed to finally get over my travel/flying anxiety, and I finally have the mental ability to meet my online friends IRL and I gotta say, if you have money to do so, DO IT! You will see that there are other people like you outside of posts, chatrooms, etc. It is a crazy experience to know that, especially when you feel like a complete outsider and stranger to the society. For people who have been critical of this thread, well for me it was a way to track my life in a very interesting manner, and I will continue writing those posts, and backing up this thread as I don't know how long this website will survive. Still, if somebody does not want to help themselves, they will not no matter their action. But it matters to keep on trying. Never give up, the results will come. Consider your health (physical as the initial and central goal as then everything else will follow). I really recommend getting any active health support (as in mentoring/therapy/etc) and being open if you do not enjoy aspects of it. It has helped me a lot. Goals: 1) make the biz fuarrrking hueg 2) this funding ends in march, will need to work out another source of money 3) move into a nicer place as that is now possible 4) DEFEAT ENTROPY 5) study more phil in the small hours 6) continue working out and taking care of your health 7) fuarrrking snatch 50 kg by the end of the year Current state: 1) biz fuarrrking exists 2) working out daily basically 3) degree goin okay 4) mostly skipping breakfasts and focusing on proteins which seems to work well 5) very hopeful about the future 6) off the SSRIs baby I am always open to opinions, feedback, anything, I am always a beginner, always learning.

Just like OP said, it's best not to give into the defeatist mentality - failure is a thing you will face in life. Keep going because your chances are higher when you never give up, improve, and keep going versus when you just throw in the towel. Learn to not be arrogant, and be humble. I think arrogance can be a leading factor in determing when somebody gives up, because when your so full of hubris and something that's hard to handle comes your way, your life view shatters, your self-esteem dimishes, and you are more likely to just give up. I know that was my problem, and I still somewhat happened. My arrogance caused me to fail a class of mine in Uni, which caused me to spiral into a depression and want to give up. But I bit my tongue and retook the class, improving my habits, and ended up with an A in it the second time. So while it's hard, failure or setbacks can help you in the long run improve your behavoir and mend you as a person. So don't ever give up. Keep persisting. Now, I'll start off with a goal and routine: Goal: Consistent sleep schedule (every day, even on the weekends) Routine: Bedtime between 10:00 to 10:30, every single day. No ifs not buts.

Need to put random junk in labelled boxes. Throw away what's garbage. I have ONE shelf: tidy it up. After all of that, mop the floor like I'm Dolores from Family Guy. I'd be really happy with myself if I could do those 5 things by tomorrow. For anyone struggling with sleep patterns, I fixed mine with a herbal tea. It was a strong-ish tea that I brewed by mixing four relaxing herbs that help with sleep: passionflower, valerian root, chamomile and one more I don't remember. Drank two cups. I wanted to go to sleep around 10 or 11 PM but wasn't sleepy or tired at all because I was used to going to bed around 6AM, but drank the tea and went to bed, fell asleep quite fast and woke up around 6AM refreshed and with no grogginess at all. That's all it took, my sleep regulated itself from then.

The diary of a prisoner where he found that people really just live for an extra food ration the next day, and a science fiction novel where the author felt a civilization was strong because of their sense of a happy fate. I was successful when I was young, in part because I believed things would get better from my work. Life will seem worth living if I expect pleasure, and focusing on tasks with quick payoffs. Generally I wake up before the alarm but I try to go back to sleep because I want more sleep. The only thing that reliably works is melatonin, but I don't use it every night because I don't want to get dependent on it, and also I often don't think to pop a pill until midnight, which is far to late to be eating melatonin. Update on goals: - I now ride my bike to work every day, it feels great. For a long time I did a short exercise routine after work too, but I haven't done that in months. I'm noticeably weaker. - I study pretty much every day for at least an hour, although lately I find it's hard to 'get in the zone'. I think I need to start drinking more green tea rather than coffee. - I still get up late most days. This is still the biggest thing I need to change. Maybe I ought to start checking in more regularly. I'm glad so many people in this thread have been able to set goals and make progress on them :)

>>64557 >>64770 IMO, most no-fappers make a big mistake conflating fapping with porn consumption. Porn, especially internet porn, is clearly a major psychological security threat. We don't even need empirical explanations or evidence to know this intuitively. Fapping, on the other hand, can be a perfectly natural and healthy activity. I think rather than going full cold-turkey no-fap, many people might benefit more from simply quitting porn and continuing to fap using their imagination and enjoyment of their own physical being. The benefits could include: >easier than cold turkey >exercises your imagination and fantasies >become more aware of your own body >pleasure and release

To refrain from derailling the thread just to reply to both anons I'll update on my failure to continue my no fap journey after day 16. This week I'm focusing on meditating 20 minutes each day and getting back on track with a healthier schedule. And doing something really hard that I've been putting off because it's emotionally taxing. I'm making progress, however more needs to be done. Adding the personal goal of deleting useless accounts I still have active. >>65943 Nice record! >>64770 It's positive to know how you are most efficient, if it makes you more functional and you don't consider it a downside maybe you should keep being that way. >>65861 >Fapping, on the other hand, can be a perfectly natural and healthy activity. I'm skeptic about how natural and healthy it can be when you're "cheating" your brain into thinking your hand is a sexual organ to obtain "free" pleasure without the need of involving someone else to achieve it. Regardless, I try to adhere to no fap in top of no porn because if I start masturbating without pornography use very quickly I start sliding into watching porn again. I do judge masturbation without pornography healthier. Though I value meaningful sex in a higher regard than masturbating alone. >We don't even need empirical explanations or evidence to know this intuitively. What do you mean? I'm not following. There's a lot of people that disregard that pornography can be damaging to mental health or even consider it a sort of weakness. I don't think it's obvious for the average Joe and it doesn't seem to be taught or thought of in that way in education programs (at least where I'm from).

I'm thinking of just asking her, if she has some romantic interest and then ask if she wants to chat on the phone a bit in the evening or coming few days. My guts are telling me that there's no proper right or wrong way to go about this and to just do it.

>>63891 Life's going well. The December visit was extremely nice. I managed to get the best grade on Master's and generally nothing to complain about. Work is mostly calm so I can do whatever most of the time. Miss my GF, but we try to visit each other at least once every two months. Sadly with eating the Christmas season was quite bad, and I have fell out of potassium supplementation habit, need to get back to it. Personal wiki has been more and more useful and now I am reading more and more. Not much more to say, as most things are going fine and I can get more and more things in control. I just hope to develop a nice daily routine and make my life as fulfilling as I possibly can. Goals: same as last time Current state: pretty much also the same I am so happy that I have enough stability to write a shorter note and consider things more slowly. >>65974 I've found similar feelings in my life. Growing up it felt like I was inadvertently taught that NOT doing something at all was better than trying and failing. I also get a similar feeling of shame when I try to do something new. It makes it almost impossible to accomplish new habits for long. I don't have a solution to offer at the moment, but know that you aren't totally alone. There's at least one other person that had similar feelings. Let's keep trying things and maybe we can help each other eventually

>>65974 >>65975 I have similar problems, although I think there is also something else besides fear of failure. A lot of the time I feel like I simply don't deserve respect, or a career, or a good life. I feel below my peers, even though I know that I am considered very talented and likeable. Weirdly I think I actually have a good response to failure, though. I have some dreams that I can't give up on, because if I did I would fall apart. My new year's resolution was to stop watching porn altogether, jerk off less, and floss every night. I already failed on the first night but I'm just gonna try again.

>>65969 Reporting in. I was able to stick with the exercise! Didn't miss a day. Cranking up the activity made it harder to stick with the fasting plan, though. I failed that several times by eating early. I'm going to keep my GOAL >improve my health by a few increments But update my ROUTINE >stick to exercise (high intensity, low intensity alternating) >create times to allow eating and don't snack outside of those times I'm thinking about having a breakfast, lunch, dinner, and supper period. Snacking between meals or having rich deserts have been a weakness for a while. I'll try to stymie that this week.

short term goals: practice programming with what I learned, study daily for my entrance exams long term goals: get in to the uni I want, get a coding job to pay for the life costs of going to uni in a different state(no need to pay because uni is free here). routine: wake up 6:30am, shower and drink coffee, study and make lunch, bed at around 10:00pm(cant control it well so it fluctuates a lot) question for you guys, should I rest on weekends and holidays? every time I start again on monday morning I feel so unwilling to do anything also what to do in days my brain feels like scrambled eggs? I feel like I can't learn anything on those days.

And on those days (such as monday) that you don't have any initiative, just do something that doesn't require thinking, like solving the repetitive exercises or writing boilerplate you need, all those things that your mind doesn't care to do when you're eager to learn. You need to develop the habit of doing them and that's a good time to train yourself to do them.

For years I've been in a mental prison, I try to be productive and do things, it lasts few days maybe weeks, then I completely lose track of time for literally months I'm now trying again, studying, going out and taking care of myself in general, it's just too bad that I'm completely alone and it literally cripples me I hope I can remember to put in effort every day, I'm making notes (physically putting them on my desk so I can see them because I used to write them on my pc and never actually checked them) Did anyone have similar experiences? How did you manage to break out of the loop?

Goals: >Learn HTML to build up personal website >Practice DaVinci Resolve until I find a comfortable workflow >Commit to Couch to 5k routine and get off my ass >Maintain personal journal Routine: Wake up at 6 for work and get through hygiene routine. After finishing work I give myself 2 hours of free-time before working on my personal goals. Alternating daily between 5k/computer software. After finishing up I write down my thoughts in my personal journal. My thoughts do not have to be relevant to the work I put in that day. Outside of that I've kept every other day I have set aside, and if I can pick myself up I still have time today. Haven't messed with DaVinci so much. >Journal Main reason I started my journal is I have a lot of repetitive thoughts I wanted to articulate rather, than have it just be the same old on repeat. I articulated most of my negative thoughts so going forward maybe that could mean I'm going to have more positive/mundane introspection going forward. Get that bad energy out my system, ya know? I didnt want to create a new thread for this but can other anons post their tips that they found for improving their lives? I'll post mine. I highly recommend rearranging and cleaning your room/ living space once a month/ whenever you fall into undesired habits. I find that waking up to an altered physical environment helps make the mental environment more pliable Consistent sleep is generally more valuable than long amounts of sleep. For grind type activities that just require repetition I like to give myself an hour(maybe 30 min) of time to do the activity as well as I can. I set up 5 coins and every time I reach repetitive goal successfully I give myself a coin, anytime I fail I reset all coins and start from the beginning. Every time you reset you try to be as honest as you can about how well your performance aligned to a goal. I used to do this to practice musical scales on piano around the circle of fifths. It forced me to play slower so I could be more accurate with the notes I played.

SHODAN · 2023-09-14 16:00
>>72424 Hi, also my final post in this thread, I do not think I will participate in a sequel, well, these have been great and intensive 3 years in my life. Have I fulfilled all the goals I set out for myself? Absolutely not. Am I a lot happier and have a lot more direction which I think is a true goal of anyone, much more than any particular per se, as particulars, as I later will state are rather secondary results of success than pure achievements. So to get started with, be compassionate with yourself. I know it sounds extremely basic, but you have to be aware no matter what goal you set out to do, you will quickly learn your own limits and realise what works and what does not. And it is very easy to focus on what does not, but what truly changes you, is your capability to use your advantages to the best benefit rather than overly focus on your disadvantages. Of course, if you have some extreme addiction (which truly disables you from doing action, not having a wank/beer once a day lol), hygiene issues, etc, then take care of these primarily. You are not a saint, nor anyone you know is, so stop expecting yourself to be perfect and ideal. Be aware that all progress is non-linear. You doing one good thing, even for limited time, not finishing it, will add up and help you do new stuff in the future and be open to the possibility of change, and it matters a lot to belief in change. You have to try a lot of stuff to learn what do you actually enjoy, and what matters. It may turn out that you can manage to find an enjoyable way of life which is good for everyone that still works with some of your 'issues' and/or imperfections. You have to try stuff to learn what applies to you. Make notes, by God - do notes. Journal write whatever, again, do not overthink the method, just write things down. Do not care that much if the formatting or organisation is perfect as you can waste a lot of time on this crap - same applies to reading self-improvement books/videos etc. Thus, always try to be aware what are you doing day to day, and remember that a perfect system that has no results nor benefit to others is worthless in comparison to imperfect system that has results and is actioned upon. A 20 minute evening walk you do infinitely beats a gym membership you do nothing with. Shit happened, soykaf happens, soykaf will happen. Life will break your plans, change comfortable situations, make you come back to habits you thought you were done with. Your brain never truly forgets, and once put into difficult situation it will come back to old places and old norms even if they were not the healthiest or most productive. Demons always will come to haunt you, they truly take a lot Thus a good discipline goes a very long way. All communities which do not bring a benefit to you are unimportant. You can always leave a toxic community, relationship, etc. You might end up being lonely for a bit, but you can always find a new stuff. And also, look for real-world communities to join - hackerspaces, makerspaces, religious groups (although be careful with that), philosophy groups, AA, etc. Once again, whatever works and makes you feel better and helps you improve, is good. You cannot buy yourself out of your issues, you cannot impoverish yourself out of your issues. Here, I believe, only a middle way would work, where if you are to buy something you have to be aware if it will be to benefit. I have seen quite a lot of people conflate self-improvement with signifiers/symbols of improvement (i.e. notebooks, wild work schedules, equipment, etc), which can be just exhausting yourself and trying to convince yourself that 'I AM PRODUCTIVE'. What is useful will not gather dust. The other extreme is blocking yourself from positive changes and is as dangerous as over-consumption, as here you also want to create some symbols of your own negative state instead of taking all you possibly can to improve your own state. Independence, of any kind, be it mental, physical, financial, etc. is one of the greatest things to have. To be undisturbed by external factors and be able to make right choice based on our self-knowledge is something we all should strive for. You will always remain a beginner, and you always must be aware, there is something new to learn and that nobody is not a beginner, you just might be aware what they are not aware of. So be open, and know that there is never an end to learn or improve. You just will, on some days, be a lot happier and at peace with yourself, but even that is not constant and there will be worse days. I believe we all can make it, and achieve our goals, whatever they may be if we apply ourselves. I have faith in your and mine ability to change and improve not only our own lives but the lives of those close to us. I think that is all I have to share right now, if anybody wants to keep in touch with me, feel free to contact me at lain atto mikhal dotto xyz. You don't do things "just because you like them" but for having a more independent and happier life. Pretty much learning Japanese today may be irrelevant to your life in the future (happened to me) and even if you had it as an actual skill you won't know if much people will get interested in you at the first place. Success (financially) is done by making as much consumers as possible have more utility (satisfaction) in exchange for money; it's better to choose some people who suffer from something and fuarrrking help them, that's it. Be very specific on choosing your people to not get into competition. Applying for jobs is good but only temporarily; you don't wanna give your valuable time and effort for some fuarrrking boss who is ideologically following literally Klausi boy (Great Reset guy) and the others who are totally anti-Lain. Make value for people you love. What you want to actually learn is how your fuarrrking body works to maintain it, learn how "they" control you and who they fuarrrking are, learn how women think and act and get into the most controversial books that completely oppose your beliefs to crush your cognitive dissonance and get to know the truth even further. (read 1 chapter on each topic per day while doing the work) And of course some DIY skills including cooking your own food etc. etc. the aim is to become as much autonomous as you possibly can to limit your dependence on that greedy technoindustrial system. This guy made an interesting guide I watched a while ago: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=PYaixyrzDOk I also reposted my visual guide here after it was at /vis/ since perhaps no one saw it. >>76430 >>76432 You don't need restrictions and exercise routines. You need to do something that you actually want to do which will naturally replace everything else. Journaling every day, for instance, is just pointless, because each day is not interesting. Discipline is not a viable method to progress through life -- you need to do things because you want to do them. Forcing never works. I think that this program as put forth is intrinsically going to fail. You are not acting in good faith. In order to obtain the energy to do the things you want to do, investigate bioenergetics.
