>>27414 Not OP, but: To be honest it isn't that bad as it may seem to be. After some time microbes on skin stabilize and create sustainable ecosystem making you healthier (as far as I heard). This seems sensible because animals don't wash themselves using soap, neither early Homo sapiens did. Mutual bacteria create acidic environment, which prevents bad bacteria from living on it. There was a crazy scientist that decided not to wash himself and he said after some time he claimed stopped smelling and was less often ill (but I don't remember correctly were did I get this from). I'm not telling here soap is bad - it is mandatory to prevent diseases, but washing too often can also be harmful, as it isn't natural for our species and skin is programmed to defend itself.

I shower every day in the morning before I go to sleep. I use a shampoo on every part of my body which gets sweaty, water is enough for the rest. When I was young I used to shower only every second day and I had no problems, but I had to start showering every day because of my hair which would get greasy whenever I didn't wash it. It gets greasy anyway, but not washing it makes it so much worse. To elaborate on my hair; if I don't wash it, I look like Dave Grohl back when he played with Nirvana. It feels terrible. Now, lainons, do you shower/bathe with cold or hot water? I started showering with cold water not a long time ago and it feels amazing. When it comes to baths, I take a lukewarm bath every once in a while; I turn off the lights, close my eyes and listen to some Dronescape from Cousin Silas. It feels like I'm floating in space.
Jens Hansen · 2020-06-09 09:01
About 3 - 4 times a week, but more lately since its been hot outside and I go jogging. I don't feel very well if I don't bathe. The longest I've gone without showering was probably 3 weeks, and I've gotten there about 2 times when I was incredibly depressed. After going this long without bathing and then showering, my skin actually peels off a bit afterwards, almost like a bad sunburn.
Molly Millions · 2020-06-09 18:11
>>27424 From my experience, washing hair too often doesn't do it any good (and as you stated, it gets greasier faster). Every day sounds terrible, you're washing out the oils supposed to keep the hair healthy. Are you sure you use the right shampoo (and conditioner) for your hair? To answer your question, I almost always shower with lukewarm or cold water.
Ivan Horvat · 2020-06-09 18:59
>>27453 To put it simply: No. Not at all. I haven't had a haircut in 5 years now; it's not because I want to have long hair but rather because I just don't care enough. That is not to say that I'm unkempt, just careless. But you got me interested, I'll look into it. Thanks.
Netrunner · 2020-06-10 01:50
I believe it's possible to go on without showering if you spot-clean body parts that become dirty often: armpits, neck, genitalia, soles (you wash hands more times a day than feet and is accustomed to it), change underwear daily, have less body hair and live in colder climate without extremely hot summers to which people react not by adding layers of full-cover breathable clothing, but doing the opposite: they get naked which causes direct contact with sun heat and promotes sweating, and such sweat is not removed fast enough promoting bacterial growth. If you noticed in period movies, people used to wear full-length underpants and undershirt, this way their skin did not contact with outer layers that are worn more than for one day and would get soiled quicker as well.

Why does everything boils down to passive aggressive advice: just shower twice a day bro, regardless of climate, weather clothing fabric choice which affects how much person sweats and how fast moisture evacuates preventing bacteria activity, or individual metabolism, brush your teeth with %toothpastebrand%: should I brush after each meal or just rinse or maybe use an irrigation cleaner, why sometimes there is foul stench after few hours, and sometimes when I forget to brush before sleep, it's absolutely fine in he morning, is it the choice of food?, disdain for Asian squat loos as "primitive" which are in fact easier on colon muscles, whence western toilet design comes from the fact that westerners wore extremely tight pants in the 18th century that prevented men from squatting all way down.

If you're mostly home, there's no point in showering if you didn't do anything that got you sweaty or if you didn't go outside and sit somewhere in public or things like that. I try to live a life where I avoid touching things that haven't been cleaned or verified to be clean as much as possible. And thus having to shower less, unless I worked out that day and got really sweaty. Things that enter my room and stay in my room are verifiably clean to me, or at least clean enough for me. I don't put things that are not verifiably clean among things that are clean, as to avoid contamination. Of course this isn't a perfect system, but it's decent.
