QAnon

Surely people are not dumb enough to fall for an "anonymous" poster who claims to have "top government secrets". There has to be a bigger reason as to why this "Q" thing is popular, I refuse to believe that people would fall for this, why is Q popular and what is the philosophy behind this movement.
Hacker · 2020-03-08 23:54
Mental degeneration is the unifying factor.
Frank Garza · 2020-03-09 00:39
I ran into this thing over on endchan, they have an entire Q board. It really seems to be that simple, the people into the whole Q thing are just really, really dumb and gullible. From the language they use to their style of posting to the politics they promote, I get the impression that it's a bunch of morons in their 40's and 50's and dumb fuarrrking young kids that discovered image boards years after the initial invasion of retards that swamped the chans and destroyed everything.
Judge Fang · 2020-03-09 00:58
I'm not sure, funnily enough I've only heard about this "QAnon" thing a year ago because I don't browse 4ch/8ch. From what I've seen it reeks of total bs. It reminds me of a very watered down version of Cicada 3001 with no puzzles. Any fool is able to use a tripcode on an imageboard and write cryptic messages. I wasn't even aware until recently that it's somewhat a big deal in the US. I'm not sure who's more funnier, the people who do "Q research" or those with theories such as "Donald Trump is actually Q". In any case I suggest paying no mind to this, it's just a waste of time.
Hagbard Celine · 2020-03-09 03:14
I remember someone saying that, along with flat earth stuff, people are very resistant to change their views about stuff like this because to them it shows they can outsmart "the system". If they're able to outsmart NASA and figure out that the world is flat, then they can figure out anything. Almost like the inform from the matrix. Why people start to believe in it in the first place? Probably a mix of a misguided attempt to understand the discrepancies in the world like how a handful of people own a majority of the wealth and, unfortunately like you say, some people are just dumb.
Morpheus · 2020-03-09 03:56
>>22161
The fact their tripcode is unsecured (and if I recall, cracked now) really should have nipped the whole thing in the bud.
I have no idea why people were inclined to believe it, especially when 4chan posters are usually sceptical of anyone professing to be or know most things.
Although I think at this point most people that think it has any merit have never used an imageboard.
Sabo Engle · 2020-03-09 04:36
I can only think of two possible situations, both of which honestly feel bunk as hell but I just can't think of any other way to see it.
First theory: it was designed from the get-go to draw in old farts to the chans, overpowering their existing userbase... which is pointless, because imageboards already have their fair share of morons. How much of a difference would flooding them with older ones make?
Second: it's another flat earth, another moon landing denial, anti-vax, whatever. In other words, a group of dumbasses getting their ranks swelled by undue media attention, on purpose. That purpose being to have another label they can associate you with if you're critical of the establishment. As a bonus, all the self-proclaimed philsophers and skeptics and rationalists and all that have more low-hanging fruit to debunk for the 300th time, fueling their superiority complex and influence.
All in all, I feel like it's an attempt to undermine something. I just don't know what.

Dog-whistles politicians have in troves.
Whether any prove-able affiliation with deep 4chan or 8chan culture exists, we all know 4chan thrives on creating deep thoroughly ironic dog-whistles to signal irl someone's depth "in-the-know". Trump at the very least intentionally blew the Pepe dog-whistle which we all know.
QAnon's very name has an obvious at the outset but very obfuscated-by-the-nature-of-the-message dog-whistle which even if unsaid has probably occurred to the majority of U.S. citizens who have have tried sincerely even for a moment to intuit what the name might supposedly mean: the Q from Star Trek. Even OP's thumbnail dog-whistles Death Note fans, as the anon above me cynically referred to.
I appreciate anon's cynicism.
Internet culture forming a diaspora, qualifies as the most awesome and dangerous experiment of human history, completely unthinkable except in a nuclear era where numerous small handfuls of very socially abstract people could independently destroy the world (M.A.D.). Only soon after a major post-modern art era to warn us not to trust in any way fully even the most socially abstract among us.

I don't believe Q ever existed seeing the "his predictions" which are nothing but vague schizophrenic postings that could be interpreted however you can and want.
Hell, most of the predictions don't even fall in scope of anything that happened in the timeframe he mentioned so the cult of Q just says "he works in the shadows, you don't know".
It isn't about his being three letter agency top level smarty pants. Even IF that guy did exist, and even IF that guy posted on imageboards, lmao right? Even if, he wouldn't post soykaf on here about himself.
Q anon is just "let's conjure existence of something that isn't real". It is meditation on thoughtforms and ideas which will become real with little bit of social and political massage.
They can work that thoughtform into this current societal worldview to be honest. In my honest opinion, the closer the thoughtform is to real world the easier it will stick.
So that's that. People trying to make world as they want to see it fit. Not through their actions, just their words. Making up stories so others that believe them become so invested in them that they create reality that suits those stories.

I have never read it but there is a book about people in a cult who continued to believe in it after the leader's predictions about an impending end of world failed to materialize and became even more rabid than before, which Leon Festinger explained with his theory of cognitive dissonance. Conspiracy theories give people a sense of power as being part of an elite group whose insights place them above the masses. There's also something psychologically & emotionally satisfying about seeing a conscious agent at the bottom of world events instead of simple chaos and randomness - even, or especially, when that agent is malevolent.

This was horrifying in its own way. A friend of my father stopped by to talk recently. I didn't learn until later in the day that he told my father that this virus hysteria is really just a coverup so the United States government can play world police and arrest those satanic pedophile rings, as run by people like Tom Hanks and also to arrest people like Justin Trudeau and the Saudi Arabian royal families.
I listened to one of my family members read this off while the others were getting excited hearing about this, I mean excited enough to dance in place and thank their god. I was the only one who knew that Q is just some guy on imageboards spreading lies.
Afterwards, I tried to explain this to them, and they changed their tone about how they didn't really believe it, but would like it to be true. My father became more upset than the rest, because I was contradicting him and just didn't get it like he did.
Even after I explained this was just someone on the same kinds of forum I use screwing around, I still don't think my father believes me. Isn't that horrifying?

I can't believe people on that site took it seriously, and they probably didn't at first--they probably sowed some chaos for laughs, then dummies and noobs took it seriously, it brought more traffic to the site (including a bunch of old farts from facebook). And you think that anyone can cope with it effectively? What about tomorrow when there's more data? The next day? The next year? The next decade? This is getting to a point where you can't just sit around laughing at the victims, because you're next, and there's little you can do about it.
I've considered getting into prepping before, but I didn't think the disaster I would be fleeing would be the unstoppable rising tide of ignorance and foolishness, that the ability to discern truth would be the first thing to go. It would have to be somewhere like that, because if it weren't, I would keep jacking in, addict that I am, until the proliferation of falsehoods and the development of new, more insidious memes advanced to the point where my mind would be compromised. I'm scared, lains, well and thoroughly scared.

Behold the modern man. The old idea was that those who didn't believe in God were ignoring what their eyes and intuitions were telling them (see Romans 1:18-23, among other religious texts). For me, though, in this age, God's existence seems doubtful, and yet my instincts are screaming that there is a devil, an insubstantial and yet powerful trickster working to deceive, torment, and ultimately destroy us...and he has many children who do his work.

Yes, but just as it was with the dark magicians of lore, those who wield it only contribute to the downfall of all that is beautiful, wonderful, and ennobling to the human spirit. The foreign invaders stick to one or two sites that they never really leave - Facebook, Youtube, Netflix, Amazon and their ilk - their reservations/prisons, or, if you want to go with the Umman Manda analogy, their walled cities. Meanwhile, the natives roam the plains of the Internet freely, using dozens of ever-shifting sites at their will. 60s tech cloud seeding, its rather simple: water condensates around dirt, so to make it rain sooner you just distribute dirt in the air with a plane. It pretty much fits the description perfectly- "plane spreads some crap in air", just the purpose is make it rain instead of brainwash people. This is also still in heavy use, saw somewhere 2015 news of even a conflict over one US state causing a drought for another with this. If i were to put the tinfoil hat on i would say chemtrail was made up to distract from the real story "we are taking all your water" which is seriously concerning.

There's a massive sunk-cost element. Sometimes I see a friend being taken for a ride, but I have to word my observations very carefully, because my friend will feel embarrassed about being taken for a ride and not noticing it before I pointed it out. The friend will express this embarrassment as anger, and then double down. "Enjoy them blue pills you mong. I'm not going to spoon feed you. Do your own research." Very difficult. Considering seeking licensed professional friend specializing in cult-deprogramming.

The "QDrops" that "Q" or at least the person or persons pretending to be this "Q" Supposedly gives to his fan boys on 8Chan or whatever are intentionally vague to the degree that your "Thinking mind" can basically rationalise it as almost anything or take it to have any secret meaning.
Your "Proving mind" then proceeds to take any piece of evidence either real or just perceived to an illogical extent in order to prove the adherents own belief
Realistically the reason why "Qanon exists" is because after Donald Trump got elected and just started 'Acting like any other politician' instead of immediately executing Hillary Clinton for the four operators that died in Benghazi or her email scandal, Or building the wall, Or deporting all illegal immigrants, Or rebuilding the American industry and infrastructure sector and so on and so on etc etc.
His fans became obviously very upset at this but because they felt duped but because its very hard to admit they had been duped they grabbed onto this Qanon soykaf like a fuarrrking life raft because it perfectly rationalises things along the lines of "Donald Trump IS trying to do all the things he promised but this completely Nebulous 'Other' is preventing him from doing it" Along with the promise that eventual triumph will occur

The bigger ARGs are often done as promotional materials but theres a solid community of people that create and play ARGs made by normal people with varying levels of effort put into them. The non-corporate ones vary from being by performance artists like Wham City Comedy that enjoy that specific form of audience interaction to people that just want to stretch their writing and puzzle chops.
Its an absolutely fascinating subculture to observe and from what I can see the inherent social nature of co-ordinating to figure it out builds some really strong communities.

There's a bit more nuance involved in the concept, but at its core it's another term for stochastic terrorism and other stochastic political action: it isn't a centrally-organized plan or group, and indeed it's not even a carefully disconnected network of splinter cells either. It's a purely chaotic political extremist movement built by sowing the raw ideas and fragments of ideology into the public domain and relying on totally unknown, uncontacted and alienated individuals to put it together and activate of their own volition. Kind of like the Turner Diaries found their way to Timothy McVeigh. And many others who randomly carried out ideological attacks and furthered a larger movement without ever actually making contact with leaders through any other sort of peripheral organization or communication chain. The actors stand alone, yet they are still actors on the same stage.
The ideology is copied faithfully enough even though the individual in question has no access to the original data or network. Think of it as a procedurally-generated ideology. They don't need to receive a binary blob of instructions, it just pops into their heads by itself. Like an intrusive thought. Of course it's also totally indistinct from "an idea whose time has come." Is it a separate phenomenon with different morals and connotations, or is this simply a subjective way that we view the same phenomenon when it doesn't align with our own interests?

After reading this.. It actually reminds me of many of the popular religions today.
* provide people answers to ultimate questions
* give people support and community against the now known unknowable
* be the direct connection to the source of the information
* through peer pressure encourage the user to ignore their senses and live in a fantasy created by the pusher
why would someone do this? Same reason the religions do it. Ultimate control over a masses reality. If you can convince people to not trust their experience, what they see, hear, feel, etc but that they can trust you.. Then you can convince them of anything. I think this is why churches have had so much sway over the state through history.
I think people have been using this weird disinformation kinda thing for a while(religion). But maybe religions are not standing the test of time because technology... So maybe Q is a remix?

I'm not sure how much I agree with that assessment, but it is interesting to think about, especially if you believe that it's a deliberate created phenomenon for the sake of control.
As it is right now, Q has limited appeal as a tool for mass perception control (too many bunk predictions, speaks mostly to people of a specific political leaning, mostly associated with lunatics). Maybe whoever engineered was aware of these limitations but these were acceptable issues for a prototype. They would test this on a specific subset of highly suggestible people. Once it spreads among them it would be easy to dismantle as yet another conspiracy theory. You take what you learn from its spread, and then leave it die.

Of course there's exceptions. If Q is a big CIA psyop, obviously it's all about control. But most religions? I think they come from real human fears of isolation and need for community. This kind of sentiment just kills the credibility of people who are hyper-virus focused lately. Like we notice this. We understand you're not compassionate; you don't care about saving lives. You're looking out for yourself, and since you have some arrangement of employment and housing you aren't affected by recent policies and thus you can ride it out and focus only on personal biosecurity.
Do you mean who literally deny it exists at all? Because I've encountered very few of those. And only super crazy online types who are probably just obsessed with a pet agenda.
But I've had and recovered from it, but what I get static for is my opinion that it's not nearly as bad as it's made out to be. We've been here for half a year already, and I'm puzzled to see no new data or examination of these tactics. I've found the data--from reputable sources, cited pdfs of studies on jstor or the who/cdc/ecdc websites--and it shows ifr plummeting below the flu and even below the common cold. The expected herd immunity threshold is now half what we originally assumed, which was an important figure in justifying lockdown. The three small-group studies that were used to spread fear about chronic organ damage were flawed, un-reviewed preprints and two are retracted. The third was revised to state that the cardiovascular damage came from pre-existing risk factors, not the virus. But it's still being presented as this thing that ravages your body and changes you forever. In fact it does that less often than the common cold. That's the thing--there are serious edge cases for any infection. They're just extremely rare.
There's data that our lockdowns haven't actually affected the spread much when other variables are controlled for. I get called a denialist for all of this, which is just a massive misrepresentation. I get called a conspiracy theorist or right wing, when in fact I'm very left wing and have a good bit of statistics and mathematics education. I think a lot of people have let their panic turn it into a political thing. People are breaking off into tribes and fighting one another for animalistic reasons. Kind of like your image shows. This has become an antisocial source of hatred in you, and the compassion for "saving lives" is just a convenient alibi.
We didn't used to treat getting sick or spreading a seasonal respiratory infection as a moral issue. This is not the same as spreading an STD. I'm astounded that people have shifted over to this mindset without even acknowledging that it's totally different from before. We can't stop breathing. And while you might have the coddled life that allows you to never see other people and have no consequences besides boredom, most of us don't. We have to live our lives. And that means some people have to die sometimes. It's always been this way. You can't just unilaterally re-write the social contact because you're scared or you have some childish, simplistic view of ethics where any risk is too much.
I wish you the best with your cold. The chances are extremely overwhelming that you'll recover just fine. And remember that there's no path that doesn't lead to endemic worldwide covid; even with a vaccine, this is with us forever just like the flu and other forms of the common cold. H1N1 still goes around every year, but it has just been lumped in with other flu strains. That's the destiny of covid too. You will all eventually give up and learn to overcome and live with it. And it will return over and over again and even if we all imprison ourselves for years, we will all eventually get it. The experts knew this even last December. The idea that we can eradicate it by changing our lives forever is a fantasy whipped up by unscientific people who thought that was science because they misunderstand the whole concept. Don't wallow in doom. We've overcome much worse before and we'll go back to normal just fine--IF we can conquer fear and moralizing panic.

I don't watch the news or TV in general but lately I'm noticing an interesting phenomenon where when I do happen to see a news report or a thing on TV I see things I also see on imageboards. I saw this Q thing today on someone's shirt in a TV report about covid deniers. Yeah, everyone became online. Used to be these were fringe communities for weirdos. The internet was for nerds like it should be.
Now, journalists are the most hyper-online people of all. They all obsessively doomscroll on Twitter day in and day out. They took the easy route and mistook that for being on the pulse of society; there's no more reality-based investigative journalism. The media is just a spectacle reporting on another, more deranged spectacle. Internet communities have devoured the world. Hence something like Q got legitimized. Unfettered, near instantaneous travel has changed the game. In some sense, I think the actual facts of COVID-19 don't matter. Whatever fear left is the realization that in some abstract, modeled sense we're currently fuarrrked to a degree that we've never been before; that percolates downward. You posit that lockdowns, etc. are unsustainable; I can only think that unfettered movement and high-density populations are unsustainable.
>We didn't used to treat getting sick or spreading a seasonal respiratory infection as a moral issue.
Is that because it isn't a moral issue or because the living generations (more precisely, the western world) have never encountered a novel virus that a huge percentage was infected with and thus never thought about it? A significant portion of Asia wears masks when they're sick; there's obviously some moral component to that.
I don't find this "we can't rewrite the social contract" argument very valid. The western world (the US specifically) bungled this extremely badly where the Asian nations succeeded. I think it's obvious the reasons they succeeded is because their perception of the social contract is significantly different than the western world.
Elliot Alderson · 2020-08-30 15:38
>>31342
>their perception of the social contract is significantly different than the western world
I think the American social contract is unique in that it doesn't really exist. It's more than just a rejection of social obligation but the idea that any collective good is actively harmful for the individual in increasingly abstract ways (i.e. masks being a "symbol of tyranny"). Or that the individual is in complete in control of their situation at all times, so indirect consequences are almost never considered (for example, excessively hoarding only for yourself, or blaming others for getting sick)
The US has prided itself on the meme of "freedom" and the idea that one must always fight "tyranny", which are distillations of its mythologized revolution and independence. Gradually that meme decayed into "do whatever you want" and then into "do the opposite of what's recommended", setting up rote patterns of behavior. I wouldn't be surprised if some authority said "masks off now" and the deniers suddenly took to the streets in hazmat gear.
Obviously this is US-specific, so the failings of other Western nations aren't necessarily dependent on these points.

Cypher · 2020-08-30 17:06

I think instinctual contrarianism, while occasionally right does come with the caveat that the choice is made thoughtlessly. It's different from an informed rebellion where there is a rationale to tackle. So sometimes the facts end up lining up with the contrarians, but their initial actions were made by people who technically don't know what they're doing. If they end up being justified then there's a set of facts they can retroactively apply to their choice. If they aren't justified, then they make up soykaf to have faith in, rejecting one brand of ignorance for another.
In an interconnected environment, if enough people choose the "wrong" path then everyone in the system will be affected. This effect is stronger the more narrow a selection becomes. It's not like people making a different choice become magically immune to the consequences of others. Specially when one choice is so minimal and low-effort that negating it feels like a temper tantrum. Like a child who doesn't want to eat veggies.

I just finished reading this: https://www.technologyreview.com/2020/08/26/1007611/how-qanon-is-targeting-evangelicals
In brief, it's pastors complaining about how QAnon is leading their followers astray. It's hilarious to see this religious brand war unfold, and I don't really care which side of this idiocy wins.
I'd forgotten about the adrenochrome harvesting. I've heard family members tell countless others about it. The article calls it anti-semitic, but I don't see why the cabal of people in power wouldn't be sacrificing guys to their god per the usual. I keep telling some family members all this does is take the heat off those I feel are truly responsible. It's easy to paint a target on Jews by pointing out their various misdeeds over millenia, and it's much easier for them to transform Jews into liberals, which allows anyone to shift around. These people calling for liberals to be killed for running pedophilia rings are the same people who have told me it should be illegal to criticize Israel, because Israel is a US ally.
Anyway, I won't rant further. It's just funny to watch a religion founded entirely on faith have its leaders complain about people following a new religion without any evidence its claims hold truth.

it's just a psyop that gives people an excuse for conflict and violence. it's a call to rally and incite violence. what makes it work is that people here are on their breaking points and don't know what to do about it, so the excuse gives them something concrete to hold onto when they're not ready for the larger conversations going on.
unfortunately its very much for the state that enslaves them and makes their circumstance of suffering possible. it's just like telling them any other race is here to take their jobs. americans slaughtered indigenous, blacks, chinese, and anyone coming from south of the border all on the same concept as what's going on now, bullshit. they just want, and due to conditioning, need, an excuse for violence. they're too psychologically broken to fight what needs to be fought, the first and only true aggressor though, the state.
psyops work a lot like crash memes, it'll just sit in your short term memory until it's being processed for long-term storage. once it pops off the stack of your memory, it'll affect other things you perceive unless you actually take the time to process it and dismiss it, which most people are not taught to so they won't know how. once its in long-term storage, it works a lot like a signal that people can give to flush it out, and it'll fuel more conflict.

If you do make a data-based argument why risks these days are very minimal, they won't hear it. If you ask them what epidemiological model they trust in and why they are unable to say. But seriously, are we still debating whether Q is a real US Military Operation? The whole General Flynn confirmation a few weeks ago, should make the most skeptic ones of you at least a little bit interested. The only thing we're trying to figure out now, is on whose site this operation is.

Mainstream hypocrisy has always been a very weak excuse if these things are so popular on the mainstream sites (twitter, fb)

Its an unsecure tripcode so people know the password for it, its almost certain that other people have picked up the mantle and some of the changes in style of Q are probably because of it.

the way tripcodes work (triple des) makes it easily bruteforceable, which is one of the things that boggles my mind about why people think 8chan would be the ideal place to post "leaks". I found someone from twitter who made a short script that can bruteforce it. I'll post it if I can find it.

Anyone else feel like Q is the second comming of Jesus?
> ...he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in his glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. ... We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.
Nov 2017, the world changed. Q emerged and started sharing the secrets of who runs our world. No one is free from judgement. He is saving us from ourselves. Q smashes the Bankers, Satanists, Paedos, Mega Churches, etc.
> The Hour will not be established until the son of Mary descends amongst you as a just ruler, he will break the cross, kill the pigs, and abolish the Jizya tax. Money will be in abundance so that nobody will accept it.
The bankers have put the USD money supply into hyperinflation. Trump is obviously trolling the bankers and getting them to play all their cards. Make sure to have plenty of goods stored up or buy buttcorns. Soon all government money will not be good in stores.

Not really. The govt was already paying attention to those sites for obvious non-Q related reasons.
If you wanted to leak something of this scale and didn't care about attention from officials then you might as well post it on social media sites where you'll reach a wider audience.
Assuming that you thought leaking your super secret plan to topple the all-powerful Satanic Diddler Cabal to the public was a good idea in the first place.

If U.S. intelligence didn't have an agent at the 8ch servers and organization, I would be extremely surprised. It was just too juicy an opportunity. Those agencies get around. In any political movement, there are always some feds lurking around spying and pulling at least some strings. Not to say it was some kind of total op from the ground up, but things like that have certainly happened as well. Learn your history about project Gladio, for example. That's kind of the archetype, but of course it could be vastly less in degree.

Agreed, this phenomenon can't be underestimated. When a people are kept powerless and in the dark by structures of authority around them, many feel a libidinal pleasure from the idea of having secret, forbidden knowledge and thus delude themselves into thinking they do have power in the world through these secrets. Most of it is deeply emotional and a product of our psychic environment.
sage · 2020-09-18 17:39
Stop using the site. It actually puts you in same line with the past 'terrorists' that had done shootings and its become a huge honeypot and a smear tactic against imageboards in general. Actually, using the site makes you a hot suspect and you know what they do to terrorist suspects, they can do all kinds of warrant-less investigations on people who don't have human rights even if you're just suspected. I bet those lightworkers are fuarrrked in there, journalists even sometimes post on that infamous hidden board and I'm sure they're also fuarrrked.
Actually the whole same user sloppy job were enough reason to stop using it. Canary lost multiple times, "sunshine" which if you mention to the admins, you'd probably maybe get derezzed out of spite.

Don't need to go that far into the past. South Korea's prime minister got caught being a cultist child and still listening to them in all questions regarding ruling the country just a few years ago. Had to step down after it got out. The whole story is even crazier going on how they wanted to establish their belief country wide through the prime minister but it's hard to tell where truth and fiction merge. What's factual is prime minister stepped down due to cult involvement. What I also found interesting in this story is news papers didn't report it much in west. Was all small articles. So what made them miss out willingly on a free easy clickbait story?

Got a little too close for comfort since the West has their own esoteric death cult doing scheming behind the scenes. Since the one controlling the major media outlets are either complicit or under control, they don't report on it for obvious reasons.

I do a lot of research on the occult and such, i can tell you evil cults run a lot of the world today.
When people think of cults they think of groups on small farms, not huge secret societies that have a majority of upper class people as members.
Those people own most of the media, needless to say you never hear of such things and when you do its either to dismiss it or distract from it, like with all media.
There is dark occult influence in the mainstream almost everywhere, most people dont realize where the imagery and ideas of many big organizations originate from.
People think its all business as usual, they couldnt be less wrong, secret cults run the world and they do it well for themselfs, public ignorance is their greatest asset.

There's some truth to it though. Who, if not, do you think pulls the strings in the world? Power certainly doesn't reside in the presidents or the lawmakers, presidents are ultimately accountable to those who put them in their position, who of course are the wealthy families of the world. The legal apparatus is a piece in the organization of society.
Idk about "occultism" or the Ilerminaty, that is probably just a name that was arbitrarily chosen to point the finger at something.

There's a difference between saying it's the rich versus it's a cult since both terms imply different motivators and reasons.
Religion and cults are widespread yet easily split into diverse denominations and practices. I doubt there's a unified cult that only the world elite (a materialistic and egocentric yet diverse group) follow.
Honestly the real danger of soykaf like Q is how it gives the powerful ammo against critics. Since they can now associate those criticisms with a crowd of guillible flag-waving idiots.

Not to defend the idea of the cult (again I have no way to know nor do I think it matters much in the end) but it does seem like nowadays there are two "sekrit societies" struggling for power in the Murrica, causing a huge breach in society.
>Honestly the real danger of soykaf like Q is how it gives the powerful ammo against critics. Since they can now associate those criticisms with a crowd of guillible flag-waving idiots.
This is not really new. I've had people use on me the argument of the shape shifter reptilians from nibiru, through the psychological device that if I dismiss the argument for being weird I'm being close minded and I really have no way to know enough to negate the possibility of them being real.

>right wing groups
Right on the money with the first. Second doesn't need any help making themselves look bad.
Ask me, this goes back farther than Q. In early 2011, moot got rid of two boards, one full of racists and the other full of misogynists cbf to see if the latter is filtered. That drove the site quality up since instead of taking over the whole site, the boards' users fled to their own little soykafhole site and left 4chan alone. He then swore never to bring the two back, seeing as both have strayed far from their purpose... but then he reneged later that year and restored the two boards anyway. The suspicious part is that this was not long after progressivist grifters started pulling their scams. Grifters whose entire shticks were about claiming to be victimized by some group. To aid in these claims, though, they'd need to present something resembling proof, they'd need to build up a hatedom against them to use as a living boogeyman.
4chan was the perfect place for this. Not only was it already full of edgy kids, but it's anonymous: anyone can go on there and pretend to be whatever kind of person they want. So instead of spending time making Twitter/Youtube/etc sockpuppets (that could easily get outed) to fake hate against you, you could just do it on 4chan. Plus, its anonymity and lax moderation makes it piss-easy to astroturf. If there's enough posts claiming to be in support of some opinion, then users will start adopting it. Or see that one quote that people misattribute to Descartes, about how a community that pretends to be X will soon be surrounded by actual X. That effect can be exploited to alter a community's userbase.
Wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say, then, that someone pressured moot into restoring those two boards to aid the grift. It's not like he himself wanted to be among racists and sexists again. He was growing up, he was getting tired of these people. So were his friends. And the people he got rid of made their own site, so it's not like they would have missed 4chan enough to put pressure on moot.
Q and other nonsense came later, after the scammers laid the groundwork for how to cultivate an "evil" or "ridiculous" outgroup for one's own ends. Hell, you could say that nearly all the political bullshit plaguing imageboards is thanks to manipulation by con artists, the media, politicians, and feds. The online far-right would have been confined to forums like SF; they'd probably still be someone's boogeyman, but at least imageboards would have been left out of it.
Spooky · 2020-11-08 12:18
Whelp, I've got at least one person at work who believes that soykaf, but I'm guessing there are two. I'm not even from the USA, I tried to be friendly and to get a bit more out of my shell, trying to make some friends, but this dude just won't shut up about it, it's either that or some esoteric bullshit about dragons and "cosmic energies". Of course covid has some link with 5G and vaccines.

Poor right wingers, can't even be racist without someone making fun of them now!
If anything this is at least partially the fault of groups like SF, they have been actively manipulating opinions and faking consent on forums and imageboardsand especially 4chan, as it was just too easy. Combine that with soykafty education systems, a capitalistic system which drains the energy out of every living being and is incapable of resolving major existential issues and you get soykaf like this.
Qanoners are the definition of useful idiots.

I'm anticipating that this election and the derailing of The Plan™ will lead to a balancing act. The sheer despair/subsequent roasting seems like an assurance that 4chan isn't a political hugbox for anyone. Or at least it gets the tourists to leave other boards alone and behave. Some of them unironically think 2016-2020 4chan was the peak of imageboard culture.
>>34666
Fascism's one of those meaningless words now, as much as liberal or democratic. Even then this cult is just incoherency.
>cosmic energies
I think the numerous failures on their part has thinned out the skeptics or casual believers and all you're left with is the lunatics. Like when the "red wave" failed to materialize or the arrests, all of these got people walking away (easy enough on an imageboard) and now all that remains is the 79 IQ crowd.
