Humans are boring
Motoko Kusanagi · 2020-02-28 18:10
I get bored of people. Everybody seems the same, chimps with a very limited set of social patterns and interests: TV series, videogames, youtube, casual politics, sports, anime, etc, etc. The only thing which got me excited for a little while was social dynamics study, but I can't apply it in practice because of autism.
How do you still find interesting people in your life?
Technician · 2020-02-28 18:26
Not calling them or thinking of them as chimps is a good start
Marly Krushkhova · 2020-02-28 18:54

They are more like NPCs rather than chimps. Don't you feel that way about some people around you?
Especially old people are boring as hell. All they really want to do is to care for little kids, otherwise their lives become pointless. I see them as miserable old NPCs and that is very depressing.

You seem pretty jaded and dismissive, but I also run into a similar issue.
I think it is important to remember that it is really hard to avoid becoming "boring" or NPC'd in present day, present time. There is a massive social/cultural/economic/etc force squeezing us towards conformity and passivity.
To be frank, I think avoiding this process is more a matter of luck and upbringing than any innate trait (ie: smart people are just as likely to be dragged in as anyone else).
As a result of this, you shouldn't hold it against the "average" person, or consider yourself particularly enlightened.
All that aside, I have found 2 methods for discovering interesting people:
1) Give everyone a chance and hope to get lucky. Works more often than you think Lain!
2) Take a moderate nonconformist and "make" them interesting. This one takes a lot of effort from both of you, and they have to be willing and engaged. Try sending each other essays or books to read, having organized discussions, sharing art / music, etc. Like a normal friendship, but focus 110% on production and education, not on consumption of or discussions centered around passive media.
And remember, deep down we are all just balding chimps wearing extruded plastic and poking holes in each other with fancy bits of flying metal.
>>21465
As for old people, as you get further on in life it becomes harder to change yourself or your views. After a lifetime of forced indoctrination by society writ large, you too would have a hard time breaking free. Overall, same rules and strategies apply, but don't expect changing them to work as well (expect them to change you instead! they have a soykafton of experience to draw on, at least some of it might be valuable)!

Maybe at a superficial level. Sure.

>All they really want to do is to care for little kids, otherwise their lives become pointless.
That is the purpose of all biological entities. Your complaints are against nature more than humans. A question to ask yourself: What is your own purpose? Or rather, what have you dictated your own purpose to be?
One of the biggest issues people run into that make them into "NPCs" is that to cope with the monotony of life, they go into what I call "automatic mode". I believe that one day, anyone who does this will forget to turn off automatic mode.

You're in the pit friend. There's interesting people but good luck meeting them with that attitude that you have from not being friends with interesting people etc. House parties and cool proper raves or club nights (not Mainstream or Jump Up type stuff) can be good

Conformism is a inherent character trait and you need to be a rebel to get actively seek avoiding what everyone else does which is the first step in doing something interesting.

That being said maybe hanging around artists would be a good idea, but dont ask me how to find or connect with them.
As for the topic most people are indeed boring npc with randomized trait sets and interacting with them seems pointless.
Not to imply anything, but have you considered that it is you who are not interesting, for yourself and/or other people?
Maybe becoming/doing interesting stuff might attract interesting people, its just an idea.
Cat Mother · 2020-02-29 00:29
Well for starters not thinking of and calling everyone chimps and NPCs. You have to treat people like people not a form of entertainment for you or else they won't let you know about the interesting things about them. People generally hide what is interesting if they think it would cause problems for them.

I'm in a similar situation. I associate with some people to play videogames or watch cartoons, but that's about it. I can't discuss advanced topics with them, although reflecting on softer topics in relation to these other activities is sometimes worthwhile. I've been told by those closest to me that I'm focused on a small amount of topics, but at least I can show my creations thereof. I'm not just reading off an epic social media post for smalltalk, like I've seen others do.
>How do you still find interesting people in your life?
Why, I use the Internet for that, just like you. Why would I use the Internet much if my needs could be met by the world around me?

my cousin is an author and he is really cultural and polite, he wrote multiple books despite how complicated their philosophy is, i really enjoyed his "spirtual dimension", they are in arabic and i don't think you will find them on the wired translated, but, he is busy and i can't talk with him much.
>have you considered that you are who is not interesting
here it depends on how you define "interesting", i draw, i make vaporwave edits, i read books, but in general is it here interseting for normals? i don't know about the atmosphere of the society around your area, but here people intract with whoever accept them the most, whoever satisfies them the most, and whoever is in touch with the normal web the most, that's what they find intersting, that's why i don't find them interesting, and that's why they don't find me interesting.

Other people can't fill the void inside yourself. It sounds like a fortune cookie but this is not to mean that you should lower your expectations or you need to love yourself in order to love others. I mean that the only way to seek this kind of satisfaction with other people comes from a certain interior discipline. The other lains who are telling you "start with not calling them chimps" are forgetting that right now you're ranting, but they're still right: those thoughts are not absent when you interact with others. You also seem to construct your dissatisfaction by negative qualifiers: they are boring, they're stupid, etc.
What is it that you want from people? What is it that they lack exactly? It becomes much easier to spot people you like when you think in terms of what qualities you want to find in them. Qualities are few, problems are many, so sort people out by the virtues you want in them and you'll not only be able to see them in a better light but also to select the ones you need in your life more appropriately. I think you're an analytical person who wants to grow and see new things and has a certain degree of honesty. I don't see the qualities I really want from a person in you from your posts, but even in this case I have a much more constructive image of you instead of an arrogant whiner who gets upset if a lady's purpose in her twilight years is making her grandsons happy. I'd rather take you as the former set of descriptors rather than the latter. And if you keep this in mind when you judge others, you will also feel an incentive to always be the nicest person you can be, so that if the other person is capable of making a similar judgment, they will open their arms to you. What chances do you have if you enter a chatroom and your rant is the first thing you say? I've done that, it's not good. You immediately make a statement about yourself this way that matters a lot more than the rant.
So far you said
>I want people who are "not the same", who are not into "a limited set of social patterns" and who are "interesting"
These are incredibly broad terms, and even on the internet which is admittedly pretty limited for various reasons, you can find a ton of people who are "not like that". What is it that you want?
Yu-ichi · 2020-02-29 18:35
>>21463
That seems like a pretty negative mindset to have. Do you consider yourself interesting?
I'm not going to lie and say I've never felt the same before though. Sometimes I feel guilt for thinking of my supportive friends as 'boring'. But I realize it's because I myself am dissatisfied with what I'm doing, and that I'm not putting in the effort to meet new people.
Neo · 2020-03-01 00:29
Our life is perfect because it is our own choices, but other people show something incredible to us. Something so incredible they reveal new parts to our very selves.
I've found memories long forgotten, dreams that I had no clue were had, and ways of organizing memory never thought of before.
The funny thing is how similar some people have been.
Talked with a friend, who is currently going through that odd time between 18 and 20, about depression and suicide. Keep in mind we aren't crying but discussing it with passive normality and some livelihood -- and we slowly reach a point where I mention how I'd think every single day about death for most of my life, until recently.
And guess what? The same for him.
We talked of our methods, how I had this hung little piece of paper reminding me not to worry, that death will come as a gift soon, and to give another day a chance, define my life a little more, before I take it.
How we used death as a coping mechanism and a good end in of itself.
I then talked of how I'd imagine a world without me, and how I'd imagine everyone reacting -- such a wretched socially nuclear thing to admit! And he said he found himself doing the same, running the simulations and thinking so much about death, how it'd work -- to a limited extent how greater the world would be -- etc.
I say limited because hatred for how we treated others wasn't the prime motivation; rather our hatred of self and desire to not hurt others, to be the best for others, was that concern.
I must say we didn't talk about that limited part in great detail, it was lightly touched on and implied by denial of certain things.
To say to the man I imagined countless times laughing at my death, crying over it, not caring, etc, that I had thought of it so, and hear him reply likewise... It's something.
The pain, melancholy, nostalgia, darkness. It's all beautiful, insanely beautiful, enough for me to will myself through the incredible depression and self hatred that sometimes comes from venturing in it. I find such gems, it's really amazing.
At the end of the day you must realize melancholy is the definition of life itself, that odd state that can contain death and birth.
I think the danger is you seem to be trying to rationalize life to such a degree that you aren't being rational because of your attempt to maintain what you think is rational. If you think about life enough, and are completely rational, you realize how insane everything is, you see how rational it is to admit your own ignorance; then you find the tao -- then you find the true depths of yourself and can get lost staring at that darkness full of odd beauty.

There is also something about knowing he cares about me. And I think I can state, as hard it is to say, that I know he knows I care about him.
He's really helped me open and explore myself in new ways. It's not all his credit, he's inputting an input I could never do alone -- a contained system will always be until something outside comes in and does any action in there, then the system can fundamentally change, do things it never could before.
So in terms of your question: I'd say it's never a waste to interact with people because they do something for you absolutely amazing; they give new inputs not born of your mind which makes the overwhelming amount of the system. Though that last part is debatable in terms of what the mind even is. Even so, they let you find yourself more interesting, they let you be amazed by yourself. You make yourself better company and enjoy the world immediately around you more.
Even an idiot can make a spark in your head which ignites a great mass you had no clue existed, now illuminated by the fire. Let them into your head, let your head be your body and self. Even just a little of that is a good idea, just let them give you inputs.
Ivan Horvat · 2020-03-01 02:02
>How do you still find interesting people in your life?
It's random. You have to increase your chance by actually meeting people in different places, but yeah, they're mostly NPCs.
Trinity · 2020-03-01 04:13
Most interesting traits in people are often also a vulnerability, or simply just not popular enough to be worth the time and effort of sharing.
People also generally don't share stuff with you if you're the cocky introvert type that your post is implying.
I'm pretty sure that you simply don't have an overall charisma that makes people want to share anything with you, so they just do the boring soykaf that works best most of the time. You conflate this intentionally superficial attitude with the genuine cases of old people who wasted their lives studying and working, and need to see their grandkids fulfill the dreams they never did.

Most people are indeed boring... If not a NPC they can still be a bore if they drone on about something nobody cares about. Remember, nonody will care about what you have done except for how you make them feel.
Agree about the old folks! Most have the life drained rigjt out of them... Maybe they don't speak clearly anymore, maybe nothing interesting to talk about has happened in three months... No matter the age [very few](https://biblehub.com/proverbs/20-5.htm) people truely listen!

>maybe hanging around artists would be a good idea
Artists are the most hardcore conformists around, art has become "what's my take on the thing that is trending?" and thus an extension of social media. At this point artists think more about marketing and getting popular than what they actually have to say. What's funny is they usually talk soykaf on people who are moved by a genuine need to communicate something because apparently being passionate about something is about doing everything you can to monetize it.
What's funny is that the interesting people probably abandoned social media and there's almost no other way to find anybody but social media. Even people IRL who expose this side of themselves are usually tied into a social media mentality where everything's a performance. You have to exist like this or not exist at all.

I don't see why you're hung up on people in the first place. You've discovered the base truth of other people: boring. The vast majority of people are conformists (artists included as others have mentioned), and if you think one hair out of line, they'll get rid of you. You're better off finding the few non-conformists in your local region and spending time with them. MAYBE you won't be bored then, but that's really messy.

But honestly does a person that is interesting appear interesting?
And what actually defines an intersting person.
More importantly how would you connect to these people?
What would you want to do with them?

People who comes in at my work make jokes on me and tell me what I'm going to say next due to saying the same thing on my automatic mode. I can't really help it, I think it might be because of how I was raised, doing all by myself and when I talked to adults to know how to do something they always told me to go outside to know it or that I don't need to worry about it. Making me isolated from everything and as some people on the internet say to me that I live in a cave because they themselves even as being way older tells me as adults did all along my growth as if I'm only an ant and that I will never gain the respect of someone to have them talk to me like an adult. I just mindlessly go through life thinking in my head not caring about anything until I end it myself or time does it.

Conformity is heavily rewarded. The nail that sticks out gets beaten in, be it via bullying, social pressure or the HR department.
Outsiders tend to be the most interesting but also the hardest to get out of their protective shell.
Makerspaces/Hackerspaces and weird music concerts (Jazz Fusion, Metal subgenres, Ambient) are where I met some nice people. The lainchan meetup thread could very well work too.
For Someone with autism I'd recommend a Hackerspace and looking for people to do a project with.
But keep in mind that people need time to open up. Don't expect everyone to share their unique sides immediately, that takes time and trust.
