Do you ever just want to find a job somewhere far away, change your name, and leave everything behind?
Sometimes I browse job listings abroad and contemplate disappearing. But I never have the balls to do it. It's a weird feeling I get, like my life here doesn't belong to me but by uprooting myself and leaving myvold self behind I'll finally be free to own a life that belongs to myself. Like a controlled reincarnation.

generally, you need skills and qualifications to just up and leave, that makes it quite restrictive on who can do it. While people certainly do it, there are a number of factors to include
>language barriers
>training gaps (do you know a specific way of doing something)
>legal barriers
and so forth.
Some people have talked about going and working in other countries, but many end up returning after a few years. I have met people from australia who moved to other english speaking countries and found work in the hospitality industry

You don't have to change your name. If in the US, just get a new job out of state. If you're one of the people who are born, live, and die in a 50 mile radius, then just moving away will be very enlightening for you. I don't even like visiting my home town anymore. It's run down and oppressive. I'm glad I got out of there.

Yeah, I feel you. I'm leaving my city as soon as I have the money, probably in about 3 months or so.

Yeah, I have also contemplated on doing so. Just disconnect from everything and start a fresh slate.

I used to. Part of me a few years back had thoughts about joining the French Foreign Legion but then I learned they were not in the business of hiring Americans in their mid to late 20s.
I am more focused on moving to another state. I currently live in Pennsylvania and had thoughts of moving to central New Hampshire or western Maine mostly for hunting and fishing opportunities and to acquire a small plot of land to grow apples for myself. I also don't want neighbors in close proximity.
As for name changes, I only wish to change my middle name but that is it.

I wish I had the money to just live hotels and car. Dream lifestyle lost all over, driving through America never staying in one city too long.

Very frequently I consider dropping out of my current ecosystem to wait tables or serve coffee for a few years. I kind of miss having a regular wage with withholding and soykaf.
Right now I'm hanging with this freelance contractor gig with the hopes that my resume will get me a lucrative salaried position. It is hard to stick with the plan some days.

I live in a van. Finding work far and away that has low competition due to travel requirements, remote access, or meagre pay for long hours in distant locations is how I thrive.
Like a roach on the refuse of society, a spreading fungus in the corpse of modernity.
I regularly change license plates, addresses, name and date of birth. I have not forgotten who I started out as though, and I like to go back to visit familiar faces from time to time. Friends and lovers, parents and some relatives when I feel like it.

What continent are you on?

I'm contemplating this. Either to flee into a nearby nation to ship drugs and live off cryptocurrencies or to flee into a far away nation to work in a revolution.

I have on and off fantasies about being an immortal traveller, like the Wandering Jew but without the horrible pain of being forced to wander. I just pick up and leave everything and wander until the earth crashes into the sun or something. It's a pathetic fantasy, but eh.

More space this way.

I want this life too. I aspire to it. But instead I would like to end as an all consuming presence. Devouring even space-time itself.

All the time actually. Too bad I am living in a soykaf hole with no escape. And I don't particularly care anymore. Better luck next time.

I've fantasized about faking my death and moving to a different country. I've often looked towards smaller tropical countries such as Bolivia or Sri Lanka to move to. For hispanic countries the language barrier wouldn't affect me much since I already speak spanish. The main issue is money and the will to do it and to isolate myself from people that I currently know.

You guys might want to "run away", not TOWARDS something but just from your current position OR perception of situation and position.
I would argue, that if every single one of you had the money, time, energy (etc) that you would just do the same problems and have same issues just with different geography.
Turning a new leaf sounds interesting and cute, it even sounds relieving but you will still be plagued with your memories and personality built upon those memories, you will still make same problems that you're running away from and still put yourself in uneasy position.
I wish you guys all the luck in the world, but honestly, try to change yourself and your environment by bettering yourself and it, not just replacing it or running away.
Good luck you guys, all the best.

Oh, shucks, thanks for ruining my dreams you smart ass. Actually, thanks for telling this! Although i believe a lot of people with these runaway dreams either know that already or at least have a hunch that that might be the case, reminding oneself about it seem helpful in staying in touch with reality.
I do get to indulge in the 'fuark it all, i'm having a clean slate life' thoughts once upon a particarly bad day, just don't cling on it for too long, get a rest and deal with all the soykaf first thing in the morning.

I am, actually, doing this this autumn, but not abroad, just to the opposite end of the state. There are forests and mountains and lakes and rivers, and ye old comfy architecture. Currently I live in an industrial soykafhole in the middle of plain wasteland. I cannot put in words of English language just how much I hate this place. And this year The opportunity came: my mom and stepfather want to move somewhere, and I want to move at least to 500 miles away from them. They're selling their soykaf and planning, I'm downsizing my belongings and saving money.

This is awesome.
Good luck!

They say that moving someplace far away will leave you an unloved eternal outsider, but I'm an unloved eternal outsider where I am now: a dusty midwestern town full of hopeless burnouts like myself.
Maybe if I move far away, I'll find meaning. And even if I live the rest of my days as some outcast foreigner, at the very least I can know that if I have to die for that place that it would be a place worth dying for.
