Homeless General
Meddler · 2019-01-10 06:17
I am homeless after leaving a fradulent scam trade school (US Job Corps). I am low on funds, having prepaid for a motel for a week. I have about $300 and am looking for work. I have a sponsor who's willing to help pay for a cert-test (Comptia A+ 900, the one the fraud organization couldn't give me). I am looking for work every day in jobs ranging from a technical support hotline to Carl's Jr. The cert won't come to fruition for a few weeks. I have no vehicle, and only a learner's permit.
Anyone been homeless before? I am looking for advice. This will be the third-time in my life I've been homeless. What suggestions do you have for quick-cash, as well as tech jobs? Pic somewhat related (I suppose).
Yu-ichi · 2019-01-10 06:31
Churches, food banks and homeless charities are probably your best bet. You can probably get at least one hot meal a day between them, maybe 2.
For work, apply to all the temp agencies you can find.
Try talking to homeless guys on the street to see what charities there are, or look on the net I suppose. GL bro.

Already looking at food banks, applying to everyplace I can. Will try to find temp agencies. I see all these people on the internet who seemingly do nothing but have living rooms that could fit an elephant and all kinds of frivilous purchases they show off. I don't understand how they do this? How do I do that?
Delilah · 2019-01-10 06:35
If I had a license, I could probably get a really cheap used van and retrofit it to live in. I see many /r9k/-types going that route. But I don't know how to drive, and the last time I attempted to I couldn't even turn right and the car kept drifting right.... I wonder if it's worth spending some meoney for a driving school while in my current situation.

Don't discount Churches, I used to help out at my Moms and they did a free meal for homeless(and anyone) twice a week, and they had all sorts of info about other places people could get a meal on other days. I never saw them trying to convert anyone.
Might be best to apply in person at temp agencies, you don't need your resume being stuck in some pile not getting attention. I wouldn't tell them(or other employers) about your upcoming cert, as who wants a worker who is leaving in a few weeks. That's why temp is your best bet
I don't understand how they do that, perhaps it's all on credit, or they stream games or soykaf, or they get money off relatives.
>>12235
there is no way you should pend money on anything when you only have $300 left and nothing coming in. Work on getting a temp job, keeping a roof over your head and getting food. Go and see Temp agencies TODAY!
and go and get free church and charity meals TODAY! Do not wait till you have actually no money FFS!

The cofounder used to be homeless. If you want to be a developer long term, contact them, they may even be able to help out with housing.
They've helped other people that were homeless.

Odd, I'm in that program right now; they tell me I'm the fastest-progressing student they've ever had and are putting me on the "advanced training" track with MCSA Net+ Linux+ and Sec+. It's run by the department of labor and doesn't cost anything, so it's only a scam insofar as the government is incompetent. Worst part about it so far is the sheer number of retarded nwords and general uncleanness.
Care to elaborate on how you were mistreated in case I need to steel myself?

I was taught nothing, I was not allowed to go outside, there was no contact with the outside world, I was treated like I was 12. My mail was intercepted and read. I was treated like a piece of soykaf. the room was not like a "College Dorm" like my recruiter said, it was a bunker made of cinderblock. We were not allowed to decorate it except for a tack board. We had a color-card caste system that you needed to perform manual labor for to progress. The food was more often than not slop. I was completly denied the very concept of free agency.
My teachers taught me nothing. We would spend 8 hours reading a book and wait our turn to be asked questions by the teacher to progress in the tar. I could have finished the program in weeks time, but they kept putting me off and delaying me. After everything, I'd much rather get the cert myself than play prisoner to these people.
I resigned twice. My resegnation was rejected twice. I left on Winter Break since it seemed to be the only way out. Computer Technology quickly degenerated into the worst trade on Campus. We became the dumping ground for the rejects to the whole program, and 90% of the class were retards that never did anything, including repeatedly missing the 14% requirement every ESP. Repeatedly. They stayed. In 7 months there, I progressed to 75%, but if I was able to actually get education I think I would have graudated within the first three months.
The teacher was a conservative Army Reservesman who tried his best, it seemed, but was oblivious to the problems of the program. He was in it in the year 2000 and spoke heavily in praise about the program. He told me that I could potentially become a Doctor in Electrical Engineering, but he literally began to have a mid-life crisis later-on due to the idiocy of the class.
I had to leave that dumpsterfire, and after being there I want to start a grassroots campaign to abolish this entire waste of taxpayer money.
There were no "Teachers", there were "Instructors", which were little more than hired babysitters.
I was awoken repeatedly throughout the night for "Bed Checks", to make sure I was still there. I wish I had snuck out just to fuarrrk with them. To have a stranger enter my room at 10:30PM, 2:30AM, 4:30AM, and 6:00AM made me feel like I was in a mental institution.
It also amazed me how many non-citizens were there. You'd expect Mexicans. These were people from Island Nations in the South Pacific and we even had a Vietnamese.
This is the most stupid piece of soykaf program ever. The wallmart was two blocks away. I was disallowed from going to it except on supervised store runs where I would be searched once I returned.

More or less my exact problems with it then. My CST class is at least filled with other dorks and not sociopathic rejects, they gave out regular tests and the program is entirely self-paced, and I've been told that I'm going to advanced training immediately after phasing up (retarded system and another gripe). Only reason I'm still here is because like you, the alternative is homelessness. Everything you've mentioned is making me constantly miserable and the only saving grace is how quickly I can get the fuarrrk out of here with all my certs

I am no longer homeless. I ended up going to my Grandfather's home at his own offer. It is not as bad as I thought it would be.
Also, I found out that the Job Corps Center I was in won't exist after June. They're going under and the land was bought by the land. I laughed so hard at hearing that.

FFS just go to a communtity college you retards. If you are that poor PELL GRANTS will pay for it 100% and give you enough afterwards to live off of completely free no strings attached. These are NOT loans, you never have to pay them back and you can just live in a normal apartment like a normal person while getting paid to do certs. Don't say you can't because I literally have helped numerous homeless people fill out their FAFSA and start getting their free money. It is easy as fuarrrk to do. You are both nuts.
Job corps is literally supposed to be for mentally disabled or criminals. What the hell are you fuarrrks doing that landed you in there?

This right here is the truth. I did pretty much exactly what you said. Now I'm sitting on like 5 comptia certs, an associates degree, and an entry level IT position. Though I was living with my parents so it was easier.
I didn't even apply for any scholarships either. If you're poor as fuarrrk pell grant is the way to go.

I haven't been homeless, but I think about it a lot. For example, I have a 22W folding, water resistant, solar panel that I picked up on Amazon for about $50. I have an ARM chromebook which requires very little power to operate. I have a $30/month prepaid t-mo plan with unlimited data. I have a 20000mAh battery bank. I can hang the panel on my backpack and charge the battery/phone/laptop while on the move. With sunshine and $1 a day, I can stay online indefinitely.
I think I'd be okay with food. I've eaten pigeon, and they seem easy to catch. I could find some bread in the trash around McDonald's as a lure. Water is free. Just hit a public bathroom and fill up at the tap. Fruit is abundant. Cactus pears are everywhere. Nobody even wants them. They mainly fall off and rot on the ground.
Now we're down to shelter (tent) and transportation (bicycle). I'm pretty sure I could do it. Seems like it might even be preferable to what I do these days.

I am considering moving from van dwelling into this kind (Bike and bag) of lifestyle.
If you do this , please make a thread about it.
I have tried short term bike touring and it seems to me like living outside is actually pretty fun once you get over the initial stigma and physical intensity barriers.
Great way to stay fit and live a life free from the corrosive comforts of our high tech low life world.

Never been homeless, I have some questions, though.
Context - Generally I'm very busy, and I have to travel into and out of a large urban area every day. I'm doing so right now. It has a lot of soykafty areas, and generally you'll see a fair number of homeless around, especially in the centre. I want to help, so up until now I've given them part of what little I can afford, and talked to the majority of the pleasant ones.
However, there's a fair point that to end up in that position, you'd have to have no family or friends willing to take you, and either you can't apply for benefits, or you're losing that money faster than you're making it. I'm wondering where the hell the money I give goes, and how much is going towards keeping them fed.
How legitimate is giving homeless money? I may have more time on my hands in under a year, and I'm thinking making them food would be a much wiser option.
And for anyone that's ever been, how did you manage to become homeless? That particularly goes if you're living in the first world.

Knew someone who worked at a grocery store where lots of homeless hung out. He tried talking to them sometimes. He said almost all of them had some kind of mental illness but had stopped taking their medication for one reason or another. They would collect cans from the garbage and turn them in to a recycling center in the same lot, then use the money to buy alcohol.

Get your sleeping situation sorted out, a good sleeping bag + waterproof Bivouac. and eat well. cover those 2 bases and your set.
Or contact the FBI or CIA their always looking people to cover dangerous jobs, it can be an exciting lifestyle.
Cat Mother · 2019-03-13 19:58
my best advice for homelessness is that when the time comes when you're ready to seek out employment you have to embrace social engineering. you make yourself not look homeless and get the haircut and clothes. You engineer a back story to explain the gap in employment, you don't emotionally open up during an interview and be 'honest', you highlight your strengths even if you feel like it's total BS. I was homeless for a year after a mental break, you think I told my employers that? nope. none of their damn business. there is stigma against being homeless and it's better to just do some social engineering than confront the stigma when you're in the thick of it.
Pulse · 2019-03-13 20:22
feel sorry for lains who get stuck in Job Corps scam as narrowly avoided it.
get your certs or learn soykaf it doesn't matter, technical interviews are just knowing the answers and bullsoykaf anyway, learn a breadth of subject matter and some basic algorithmic skills and you'll do better than some people who have degrees in CS.

Homeless people remember people who are nice to them and not because they want to scam you. Homeless people with some cognizance and thought actually go out of their way to watch out or tip off one another, or just want to commiserate about their situation, used to give random drinks and snacks to homeless people or leave my food conspicuously on top of bins or ask people if they wanted anything if they were outside a shop, some of them helped me or talked to me when I was homeless months later.
藤原純一 · 2019-05-08 19:58
I am OP from so-long ago now and wanted to update you all on my situation. I already gave a brief update before. After the week ran out in that motel, I ended up taking my Grandfather's offer to move in with him. Since December I have only been employed to two jobs. The first was working at Subway. I quit after working 2 days (having been employed four) due to my dignity being hurt. The entire staff were spics who refused to train me or give me more than 6 hours.
I now have been working at a gas station, full time, for the past 2 weeks. It is for $8.00/h.
I try to find tech jobs, including simple computer repair. It seems impossible here in Nevada. My hope is to save up enough money to move back to OR (which I left due to the Job Corps scam) and find computer work there. I do not want to work at a gas station at this point in my life, especially when I have the prowess and skill to work in other, more successful lines of work.

You need to learn perseverance. Sometimes moving sideways helps, but sometimes you have to learn to grit your teeth and punch through.
Sometimes, a soykafty situation is the fertilizer that leads to greener grass.
Sometimes it is just an endless sewage pipe.
Figure out which one you are in, and make your choice without regrets.
