2019!

Nanashi No Gombe · 2018-12-20 04:05
Hello everyone! Now that the year is coming to a close. It's time to figure out what we're going to do to improve and be better than we were in 2018. A lot has happened and a lot more will happen next year. Here is my list of things I want to accomplish in 2019. >Workout daily | Pyramid Workout { push up, sit up, pull up, squats } >Shower at least once every two days >Learn at least 1,800 vocabulary words and their respective kanji. (5 per day, and using SRS.) >Spend less than $100 per week on food. >Use vim for all writing, when possible. >Participate in NCL Spring & Fall 2019 >Complete OverTheWire [Bandit -> Maze] before 2020. >Save up $10,000+ for moving before October 2019 >Write in a journal and review it once per week >Meal prep breakfast/lunch on Sunday for Mon - Fri >Write a youtube replacement before November. I'm sure I can come up with a few more. What are you guys planning to do for 2019?

I've been playing around with the idea of a /sec/ youtube channel for a little while now.

I'd like to work out more and get rid of my belly fat. I'd like to explore some software peojects that I didn't quite have time for this year. Also plan to do more drawing. Comics art is a little time-consuming, so I may do illustrated stories. I've begun reading a bit more on philosophy and mythology. I think I'd like to try creating some kind of modern-day fairy tale or folk tale. I don't think there's any way to build momentum behind it, but I would like to reboot oral storytelling culture in my area. I think there's cultural value to be had in having a group of people gather at a pub or the dinner table and share stories, songs, etc. I don't see much of that these days. Most of the other ideas are related to all of the above.

>>11863 You should definitely do that and share it. I'll definitely watch, >>11864 That sounds cool. Good luck, I tried to get into drawing in 2016 and I was just not able to keep up with it. If your create something, you should share it if you're okay with that. It could even inspire other lains to do things as well.

>>11862 Life's been pretty soykaf this year. Honestly I don't have that many goals for myself. However, for the past year I have really gotten into learning C++ I'm dumb as fuarrrk so I haven't learned much, but at least it's a start I guess. I would also love to start learning japanese, but I should get finished with english first. Polishing my guitar playing skills is also a priority. Anyway, hope you have luck with your goals dude.

I need to get my soykaf together and make something out of my life. >Get some kind of job (dont matter what) >Get out more durring the summer (swim/hike etc) >Setup and follow a diet and excercise plan (not hardcore but just something to keep at it) >actively try to meet new people and make meaningful connections (probably artists and stuff) >finish up on some projects (its been a drag i got so much stuff on my todo) >participate actively in some hacker community projects (meshnet would do fine) >get some kind of hobby doesnt directly involve computers or drugs (doesnt matter much what) >stop taking drugs halfassed and bumming people off (when i have some money i want some quality planned tripps and not just do stuff cuz i got it in my drawer) >learn russian (kinda know a bit but i always slack off) >Spend more time building up my mental and spiritual capabilites(meditate and use my imagination more) Im a pretty lazy fuarrrkup rightnow, i dont need much but i really want a little more in life.

>>11869 >C++ My recommendation is to make small projects. Something like software that feeds arguments to existing commands like sed or ls. I tried to do the book-learning thing, but like spoken languages, programming languages are best learned by just jumping in and doing something. I find that for myself, anyway. Just start with really small stuff to keep from getting discouraged, then get slowly more ambitious from there. Same with Japanese, but there I recommend making contact with some local asian cultural organization and finding a language buddy. Struggling to talk to someone is way more effective than a grammar or vocabulary book. For guitar I recommend jamming meetups. There are folk organizations that host jam sessions for newcomers and long-time enthusiasts alike. You'll get used to jamming amd make contacts along the way.

>>11880 >meditation Find a buddhist center and sign up for meditation classes. Honestly, in light of your mentioning drugs, I would recommend seeing if you have health insurance that pays for psychological counseling. You're not crazy or "bad", but a professional can size you up and give advice on how to strengthen your psychology >drugs Getting off the drugs is a massive priority for you, or should be. Again, I recommend psychotherapy. The recidivism rate is similar if not the same to programs based off of AA and generally more private due to therapist obligations. >diet and exercise Eat rabbit food (lettuce, cauliflower, etc). For exercise, start simple with walking. If there is somewhere nice to do it, hike. Join groups to do it if you can; it will definitely help. People think they need to go hard-core with exercise from the start, bust consistency is more important than difficulty. Half an hour every day for a year just walking around somewhere nice will do more than feeling obligated to get to the gym every day for the two or three months that you can force yourself to do it. >russian See the previous post on Japanese. Find a language buddy who knows Russian and try to talk to that person without using another language. In the beginning it will be a mix of sounds and sign language, but eventually the mind will learn >meshnet I see massive value in underground alternative Internet infrastructure. It will get controlled at some point on a governmental or corporate level, but it would great for the resume. The question isn't really the technology but the content value. I recommend targeting a very specific audience with regards to content amd letting the community grow organically

>>11883 Classes, psycholgogists and getting off drugs are not options to me. Thanks for the advice but i got all i need, just need to get my soykaf in order and buckle up.

>>11886 Totally understand. I wish you the best of luck!

The only goal I can think of is to get a demo out for this game I recently got inspired to make. But I'm scared of falling into the same cycle and dealing with the same problems I did during my previous attempts making a game. I've gotten over one of them, which was trying to make my own engine despite several free ones being out there, but that's the easiest one to solve. The harder ones are all about motivation. Or more specifically, staying motivated in the face of "if I finish this and not a single person enjoys it, then I will have wasted my time." Aside from that, maybe start going out more and meeting others, but considering there's nothing to do in this town, I don't know if I can even find a reason to go out besides work and such. Plus if I can't even talk to people online then what's the point of trying to do so in person?
The Plague · 2018-12-21 15:06
goals for 2019 >pass RASP >hit E3 >get stationed literally anywhere other than fort benning
Tank · 2018-12-21 15:41
Goals for next year >do more exercise, I'm already doing exercise semi-consistently by keeping a calendar and marking it >meditate more, preferably once a day and hopefully for longer than 10-15 min at a time, probably read more sutras as well >make friends, ever since going to college i've been kinda lonely and the couple friends i've made graduated their first semester while i failed, don't see them as often as i'd like and it's always passing by. >get better at drawing, writing and coding. I've got a story I feel the need to tell but I'm a pretty soykaf writer all things considered and my characters feel like self inserts and clones of one another to some extent. Maybe it'll be a comic, maybe a game, who knows. >get a gf (probably impossible but i want to say i at least tried)
Unspecified · 2018-12-21 21:28
>>11896 Get a good book on drawing caricatures. Use it to get good at drawing people you don't like. Eventually, you'll want to expand and that's where your writing skills will start to be used. This will keep things fun as you work on your drawing and writing skills
Cypher · 2018-12-22 05:43
>>11895 have fun with rasp, army anon. i like my comfy pog life though >>11862 for myself some goals as follows >go back to the gym >make a plan for higher education >get certs, starting with sec+, net+, ccna switching and routing >learn basics of either german or asl (both would be ideal but i'm going to be realistic) >read more philosophy
Naomi Nascimento · 2018-12-22 10:24
>>11896 From the bottom of my heart, good luck Lain. I hope the year is kind to you.\
