NoFap
John Titor · 2018-12-02 10:56
What do you guys think of NoFap, not the movement but the actual abstinence?
I'm on a day 3 of my NoFap experiment and I've found no difference in mind, spirit, or body compared to when I was watching porn and masturbating everyday. I'm not sure if I should continue or not.
Miho Iwakura · 2018-12-02 12:03
depends. i think scientifically it has to be doing something. If you are jacking off everyday you are altering your brain chemistry, your getting a rise of happy chemicals everyday and your brain is gonma be used to that.
off of thos though I think how helpful it is varies person to person. I think its a mistake to be like "yeah but ur frying ur dopamine receptors so it HAS to help". Thats a subjective thing, I think its more likely than mot that a majority would see benefits to motivation and beibg entertained, but still not everyone will.
Mentat · 2018-12-02 14:14
Scientifically speaking, it is a good thing. When you fap, you build habits that positively reinforce certain behaviors with the award of chemicals released in your brain. Because those chemicals are programed to make your body feel good, you can inadvertently destroy your life. In extreme cases, you may forgo life necessities in order to fap. There have been animal studies, where animals would rather have sexual stimuli than food and other comforts, in the same way, you can condition yourself to disregard important aspects of your life. Fapping with pron also makes you have a skewed view of men/women, historically speaking, one may only see such intimacy with one or a few dozen women (or men) in ones lifetime, thanks to pron, you can see intimacy with thousands of women (or men) in a week. the result is an unhealthy perception of people.
Think first of maslov and pavlov, then understand how fapping can offset the hierarchy (fapping is not actual intimacy)
On the other hand, there are distinct biological effects of orgasming, so one could potentially use fapping as a kind of performance enhancing drug, but beware the side effects:
>the amount of the neurohormone prolactin greatly increases, which creates a sensation of sexual satiation, but also the temporary inability to have another orgasm right away. Prolactin also suppresses dopamine and therefore acts as the “brakes” for orgasm.
>Enkephalins (endogenous opioids) increase and inhibit oxytocin (the bonding hormone). Oxytocin may be produced because of the muscle contractions that accompany orgasm. This interaction of brain chemical results in an overall decrease of feelings of satisfaction.
>Similarly to other addictive substances, intense orgasms produce an initial powerful pleasurable experience, but is followed by a “hangover” effect. This “hangover” is the result of the sudden drop of dopamine in the brain, and we may become irritable for about two weeks.
at worst, ou might experience something like
>The Coolidge Effect has been identified in almost all species, and in some animals (i.e., male rats), the male will continue to mate until he almost dies of exhaustion. In humans, this phenomenon can set the stage for sexual infidelity and a host of problems ensuing from this indiscretion.

I feel like NoFap by itself probably isn't significant enough to change one's life the way they hype it up to. As >>11304 said, porn does skew your vision of people, but if that's the issue, meditation/buddhism does a good job too and helps with more general issues in life.
Ultimately I feel like people are exposing themselves to oversexualization through the internet, but if you're breaking bad habits for the better, why not go one step further?
Fred Nurk · 2018-12-02 14:57
I actually did it and It's kind of nice

Well, I think I'm one of those who can't maintain a good mood on a chemical level (and a psychosocial level) while orgasming regularly, so abstaining from masturbation has been quite nice for me. I feel better.

don't be extreme. It's likely helpful for some, it isn't for others. It just depends on how your brain works.

I suspect that fap kills my motivation for given day afterwards so I try to hold it off untill evening at least. I also try to cut it to maybe once a week to avoid getting my mind muddy during school week but I've been failing so far in the middle, usually after seeing *an interesting thread* on forum I lurk and sperm monster becomes far too strong

No doubt about it, but you might as well buy some sugar pills on the street and pretend they're testosterone supplements. If you want to go nofap then so be it, but you needn't forfeit masturbation as if it were evil, you just have to acknowledge a change in attitude is enough.

the problem is not fapping itself, but fapping in a way that causes harm... if you just fap, nothing bad happens, but if you go for "a really good fap" where you seek out something that will induce the most pleasure (or chemical release) you are harming your body in the same way a heroin addict does by creating a chemical dependency (and a hangover/withdrawal effect when not fapping in the specified manner)

definitely. its stupid to assume what works for one works for all, it shouldnt be some kind of prescription for everyone.
its not even as if this is a new concept either, people have found some kind of peace abstaining from sex for a very long time now. Its just not going to benefit everyone though.

The problem is that people have been memeing nofap for generations (you will go blind/ don't disappoint jesus / your lust will make you burn in hell), so people think of it as a joke or something stupid. It has its merrits, but it is not some kind of super-cure for all your problems like some people say it is. If nothing else, people should do nofap to stop wasting time when they have other productive things they could be doing. at worst, fapping causes psychological problems (via addiction or hormone deregulation), but only in sever cases. In fact, some fapping is probably good, but one should be cautious not to fap too much.

I'm on my 76th day, there were no superhuman powers, but it is actually beneficial especially when you are addicted to masturbation and porn. I dont have to masturbate/ or get a huge orgasm just to sleep at night. My confidence has been also raised by a little, weird fetishes gone, and I don't get much distracted from pretty girls I see on public. I also feel like I dont lose energy, can even do blue-collar jobs now, matching it with workout (calisthenics or gym) is also great (I have now 6 pack abs, fit af; I ain't kidding). You wont turn into your next form just by abstaining to fapping, but nofap would be a great help if you really want to improve since you will not be easily distracted by your libido.

I think you hit the nail on the head here.
>in severe cases
I think there is something there for pornography addicts, but it won't be helpful to the average person with normal self control and regulation.
I suspect that a lot of the nofap cultists are basement dwelling porn addicts who somehow found the motivation to end their antisocial behaviors. Since humans are a social species, they see great benefits from ending their porn addiction and engaging with people and they attributed these benefits to the nofap movement. And thus the cult is born. The same thing happens with religion: someone starts going to services in order to turn their life around, the religion gives their life structure and a reason to improve, and they attribute all their improvement to the religion instead of themselves. And poof have an evangelist cult member.
Roy Batty · 2018-12-10 12:59
It's definitely better not to fap everyday or frequently. Your brain changes when you're addicted, your hand takes a different shape, and your dick gets hurt. It's not worth it to fap frequently.

just a regular porn addict but yeah. people want their struggles to be validated, and its annoying. Its something I always make sure not to do, its like those people who go to the gym and then suddenly going to the gym is their answer to anyones problems. Then they think "no i used to be like you and think it was stupid but then i did it and it really fixed everything".
actually you didnt used to be like them thats a big assumption, you had one thing in common of thinking nofap/weightlifting/whatever was not going to help. Its such a stupid thing to form an identity around, in general forming an identity off of how you overcame one personal weakness is weird to me.

Is there a known method by which an adult human can unsexualize his/her mind once puberty has finished traumatically ravaging it? Maybe that last bit was only my experience. NoFap helps, but I still think about sex (and contextualize experiences, etc. sexually) more than I would like to. I have little higher-level interest in it.

Expels nutrients (zinc especially) and wastes life energy upon ejaculation.
This contributes to a lack of energy or general lassitude, poor memory, mental concentration [brain fog], lack of self confidence, and a tendency to avoid the society of others [social anxiety].
It also messes with your frontal lobe reward centres undermining self discipline and motivation.
Turns you effeminate from hormonal imbalance.
The habit is highly taxing on the reproductive organs, in excess leading to symptoms of premature ejaculation (in real sexual situations) and erectile dysfunction.
Has the potential destroy your interpersonal relationships and stops you from making more.
You are most likely somewhat ashamed of the material you masturbate to.
It's complete waste of time while quickly providing you with a degenerate outlook.
This all makes you unfit for female partnership.

I've found the opposite, I've been a chronic masturbator for years and I can stay hard for over an hour. Usually I just get exhausted and have to jerk off to cum.
It still is like kicking dead whales down the beach! Girls think I don't find them attractive and it's embarrassing for me too.

It's nonsense for lonely, insecure puritans. The idea that abstinence can solve personal problems is nothing but magical thinking. The only interesting thing about it is how those ideas are being spread, which leads us to...

>The problem is that people have been memeing nofap for generations (you will go blind/ don't disappoint jesus / your lust will make you burn in hell), so people think of it as a joke or something stupid.
Few years back I got even paid for that memeing. There was this website where you would get paid for writing posts/comments on peoples' blogs and forums. One such forum was masquerading as a legitimate sexual health site but was in fact ran by some ultra-religious American. We were instructed to write anti-masturbation/anti-birth control posts. The pay was low but it was easy enough and I made some beer money. The forums are dead now so those types of services moved to social media platforms, they're also much more professional these days. Point is, the nofap meme isn't organic, it's religious propaganda astroturfed into existence by PR firms.

dehydration is harmful, solved by drinking water
fapping is harmful, solved by quitting the habit
I don't see your point.
Are you trying to say masturbation is equivalent to breathing?
Because the moisture that breathing expels is easily replenished by drinking water and breathing has the upside of oxygenating your blood stream.
Whereas masturbation just uselessly expends bodily resources and is highly habit forming. It's not like people become addicted to dehydration.
Are you trying to say masturbation is somehow inevitable like breathing?
Because it's not, there are men out there who don't masturbate and are completely celibate.
But give me one man alive who doesn't breath.

And humans are zinc batteries, once the zinc oxidizes we die, right?
People eat to replenish the lost resources, and semen is not resource intensive, not even a little; males produce it non-stop whether they masturbate or not.
I'm not defending masturbation, i'm just saying your logic is absolutely faulty and may lead to dangerous things.
>It's not like people become addicted to dehydration.
It's not like people become addicted to the supposedly life destroying effects of masturbation either.

My point was quite clear, breathing is wasteful but so what? Masturbation is wasteful but so what?
Also what is "life energy" even supposed to mean? Sounds like some chinese medicine lunacy.

How much zinc a day do i have to ingest to be fit for female partneship?

I'm not really sure how I feel about no fap. I think I'm in like day 50 something. Honestly I think the only reason that I'm at this long of a time is because I don't really care that much about jerking off. When I was younger I thought there was something wrong with me and tried super hard to change myself and now that I just don't care I haven't really wanted to jerk off. That's also not to say that I stop myself from looking at porn or whatever. Many times I've looked at porn but it's weird now I just feel the physical sensation of being horny or wanting to jerk off but don't really see any purpose behind it. I only really started because I got a girl friend but now that I left her I still don't really feel like going back to jerking off. I haven't felt any changed and I didn't change anything with my life like working out more or improving myself but it's nice to have the extra time. The one thing that I noticed as a change was I sleep more because before when I would jerk off I would do it right before bed so for example I'd go to my room and then an hour later I'd go to sleep. I'm not really sure how I feel about the whole thing though. Lots of people use the movement because they think that jerking off is the problem but I don't really see it as a bad thing and I think that kind of thinking makes it harder to stop doing it. A lot of the people on the subreddit also seem like incels and do autistic stuff like having porn on full volume in class or acting like morons when talking to girls and then going on reddit to post how only through the power of no fap were they able to talk to that girl and that because of fapping they destroyed their lives. I think that if you give that much power to fapping then you fuarrrk your life. I'm not sure if I'd jerk off again mainly because I don't really see the point in it except to feel good for a bit and I'm not trying to put myself on a pedestal and say that anyone who jerks off is lesser than me but just for me I don't really see a big reason to do it.

A deficiency in any mineral or vitamin in the human body inevitably leads to disease.
Take scurvy for example, there is plenty of information in medical literature about what health complications various deficiencies can cause.
The majority of food today has become so denatured that biologically accessible nutrients have become scarce.
Semen is quite resource intensive when you consider that nutrients within the body are measured in parts per million/billion or that a tiny drop methyl mercury can completely destroy someone's brain in a week.
When you don't expend it, it stays within your body, even though you endlessly produce semen the process slows down when there is no more room and old semen is reabsorbed by the body.
Although this is just anecdotal I have witnessed many people who have stopped masturbating that noticed significant growth in other areas.
And then there's always stories on the internet like this one: http://bestofnofap.blogspot.com/2015/06/a-second-puberty-nofap.html
People often don't realize they are addicted to something or that they have a habit until they attempt to quit.
For example most people have a "hidden addiction" of wanting to be right.
All people like you do is dissuade people from things which may benefit them by providing them with excuses.
It's like saying to an alcoholic, "don't restrain yourself, a little drink now and then is fine!"
As for "life destroying", any bad habit has the potential to become life destroying.
>What is "life energy" even supposed to mean?
I am referencing stuff written by a variety of scholars Napoleon Hill and his sexual/creative energy transmutation being one of the most well known.
Obviously not scientific, but just because something hasn't or is unable to be proven doesn't mean it's invalid.
Sometimes personal experience is all it takes to valuate the competency of an idea.
Not everything useful needs to be scientifically proven first, the phenomenon always appears before it's analysis.

Just curious, what makes you think that one simple answer for everything is somehow impossible?
That there is a single genus which encompasses every sub species of problem, rather than seeing every instance of a problem as purely distinct and unrelated.
>>11723
>weird now I just feel the physical sensation of being horny or wanting to jerk off but don't really see any purpose behind it.
Wow that's actually really cool. It's like your subconscious lost all influence on your conscious decisions in that area.
True prudence, amazing! "The ability to govern and discipline oneself by the use of reason."
It's interesting, people think they need to suppress the subconscious or change the subconscious,
but it seems just learning to just bear the urges but not following them is what's required.
