How to help with suicide

Zero Cool · 2018-11-30 17:27
Hello lainons. I have 2 friends that want to kill themselfs (one even tried) and i don't know how can i help them. I'm surely not a psychiatrist but i think there is something i can do right? Both of them have tons of stress because of school. They don't see point in living. I keep telling them to find something they like follow it and make through hard times because it will become better later on. Do you lainons have any idea how can i help them?

The best thing you can do is support them. Just try not to given 'em advice and just stick around them as much as you can. Just stay with them, enjoy a new movie, some music or even the silence. Once or twice you can say something like: "hey, do you wanna talk about something?" You cannot do much because that's a complicated issue, and sometimes even if you want to help you can do the opposite by annoying them or putting 'em down. You must be really careful, because you're stepping on eggs.

>>11255 >You must be really careful, because you're stepping on eggs. oh this line shocked me. well they are internet friends so talking with them is best i can do. i think ill try to not give them hard time (my character is hard to handle i would kill them rather than help them)

>>11254 there's only one reason someone would ever kill themselves: >they're in a soykafty place >they feel stuck in that soykafty place you have to recognize this when talking to a suicidal person. they will view any "solution" as a waste of time. honestly, the best thing you can do here is to lie to them. think about something that makes you happy, that makes you want to stay alive. create a fiction on how you were in a state of suicidal thinking and had to work to be in the spot you are now.

>>11257 Man thats seriously really good idea because all you said about that 2 cases is completely true. My third other friend had enough with their parents and wanted to kill himself but since he went to college as moved out he is a lot better now. They are really living in soykafhole. One is living in india where students kill themselfs everyday (3 of his classmates already did)

>>11254 First of all , can you clarify what you mean by help ? Are you talking about euthansia or do you want to help them live / survive ? Assuming the later, First identify if they want help / assistance / solutions or just want someone to listen and support them or some combination of the two. Most suicidal people are not looking for solutions to their problems, because they believe their are no solutions to their problems or they believe those solutions will never apply to them. Then recommend they talk with someone about their situation. Whether that is a suicide prevention hotline for your country, or a mental health professional, a doctor, or just a friend or family member. Spend time with the people, talk and listen to them, if they want to about the reason between their motivation for suicide , then let them. Form habits with them, where you agree to meet them / spend time with them on a regular basis. Don't focus on trying to make them not want to kill themselves, instead focus on why they should not do so today, and then tomorrow and so on. If all their stress is from school, what if they just took a break from school ? I don't agree with >>11257 that lying is the best strategy, but trying to relate or emphasis with their circumstance and example of when you felt stuck in a bad place and how and why you managed to get out of it, can help, if they don't think you are trivializing their situation, because if they do, then the first thing out of their mouth is, It's not the same, etc. The stuff below is taken from https://www.lifeline.org.au/get-help/topics/preventing-suicide Reach Out - Ask them directly if they are thinking about suicide. It needs to be a direct question that can’t be misinterpreted. "Are you thinking about suicide?" Most people with thoughts of suicide want to talk about it. They want to live – but desperately need someone to hear their pain and offer them help to keep safe. Don’t be afraid to ask them if they are thinking about suicide. This shows you care and they’re not alone. Listen to them - Allow them to express their feelings. Let them do most of the talking. They will often feel a great sense of relief someone wants to talk to them about their darkest thoughts. Check their safety - If you are really worried don’t leave them alone. Remove any means of suicide including weapons, medications, drugs, alcohol, even access to a car. Get help by calling crisis service, or emergency services. You can also take them to the local hospital emergency department. Decide what to do and take action - Talk about steps you can take together to keep them safe. Don’t agree to keep it a secret, you shouldn’t be the only one supporting this person. You may need help from someone else to persuade them to get help. You can also help by finding out information on what resources and services are available for a person who is considering suicide. Get help - There are lots of services and people that can help and provide assistance. GP (doctor) Counsellor, psychologist, social worker School Counsellor Emergency Services Community Health Centres Crisis support services Seek support from family and friends, youth group leader, sports coach, priest, minister or religious leader etc. In some situations they may refuse help and you can’t force them to get help. You need to ensure the appropriate people are aware of the situation. Don’t shoulder this responsibility yourself.

>>11254 The best thing you can do is provide support for them and recommend professional help, I know that might not be an easy task, but it's what I see as the best option for them, a psychiatrist knows more than a bunch of autists on an image board would.

>>13651 though you wanted to die, nvm. Just tell them not to in the best way possible.

>>13603 I've been to a psychiatrist and a psychologist before. Psychologist was better by a mile but still not essential. The drugs are useless, I've been on 4 different ones. Not taking them places the burden of getting better on you, that's what got me to eat better, exercise, get out, and reevaluate my worldview

>>13663 drugs were not useless for me or many people. dont assume your subjective experience or brain chemistry is universal.
