ITT we discuss how to incentivize the people we care about to move off Facebook-owned services. I'll go first. I paid my family member 50 bucks to chat with me with Signal instead of WhatsApp from that point onwards.

In eastern europe it was never popular. Why? Because we were spoiled by way better alternatives before it, like infostore and vk. Infostore got killed my US rightholder orgs, vk became fsb spyware. But even that didn't make people here use nonsensical corposlop piece of soykaf like facebook. People just use telegram as social network instead, also x and instagram, and now also tiktok I guess. Even youtube to some extent became more like a social network.

Facebook usage requires more than just normal person, it requires a certain corporate culture heritage to even perceive it as something qualifying for a social network in the first place.
