Progeny and Baby Lainons

Does anyone here have kids? I’ve been debating with myself whether I desire having children and should ever settle down with a woman to do so. What do you think?
Aristóteles Amadópulus · 2018-10-02 14:19
Yeah we got a 1 year old. What are your concerns? My biggest issues were money and free time for myself. Turns out kids really aren't cheap but unless you're really poor or something it's manageable. As for free time it's not so bad at all as babies go to bed super early and you still have the whole evening for you. Depends a lot on the baby (some cry/wake up a lot) but it worked out well with ours, so turns out it's not much of a problem.
Aside from that It's pretty fun and rewarding. Some days will be stressful but it'll get better over time. If you want one I'd say go for it.You'll make lots of interesting experiences and grow as a person.

Having kids has made me a better person.
As a single person only concerned with myself, I did not have to have any thought for the future. I could spend all my money on clothes and weed and eat peanut butter sandwiches and drink beer all day.
Now there are other people depending on me. I think about them when I make each decision about my life. I eat better. Exercise. Try to model good behavior. Educated myself, got a good job.
I know that some people judge other folks who have kids to be selfish, but it's exactly the opposite for me. It's made me more selfless. When I die, they'll still be here. They need my help in developing into functional, curious, compassionate, and emotionally stable adults. I think it's the best thing in the world, to be honest.

Why would people with kids be selfish? Where are you from?

I think this is somewhat popular among certain circles in western countries nowadays, more people means more pollution and you can make something as simple as having children look like an act of terror to the environment. I think it's just another way of shifting responsibility away from the "big guys" and blame the common people for practicing their basic rights. I wouldn't care too much about the idiots who fall for this.

There's also the argument that unless you can be sure that your kid is gonna be at least somewhat smart (good genes on at least one side) and are dedicated to do everything it takes to turn him/her into a useful member of society, you're ripping society off by giving it another idiot. It has to deal with once you cannot anymore.

There is always the problem with bringing another individual into the world wthout consideration of that individual's consent.
You have taken what would have been otherwise fine carbon, hydrgen, oxygen, nitrogen and other atoms and stuck them together in such a way to create a thinking mind and a feeling being, then thrust that being into a world more often hostile than not, and expect it to grow up into something resembling your idea of a "good human".
fuarrrk if you want.
Breed if you want.
But dont expect the results to be any different from anything else you have done in your life, unless you change and grow first.
Mentat · 2018-10-03 21:18
if you got your own soykaf together, fit healthy, your cool and it feels like you should go for it.

Yes, I have trouble understanding how someone can suffer in life and then want to bring another individual into the experience. I suppose I give more weight to suffering than pleasure, though.
Also, I find the idea of children being raised by Lainons to be a bit disturbing, honestly. Maybe I'm just projecting what I know of myself onto the rest of us, but the themes represented here seem to suggest a certain amount of...instability, perhaps, in the site's users.

from a certain standpoint you are correct, the age group on lainchan appears to be a predominantly 18-30 age group (child bearing) with a few outliers above (and probably below that)
The themes discussed on lainchan can be depressing to many people and not appear to be "good" but then again, the alternative of child raising in the western world involves either
>physical/verbal/emotional abuse of some sort to ensure compliance
>over investment of money and/or under investment of time in the grown and development of a child (rich and entitled children) or poor and uncaring (egocentric or selfish) children
>nurturing two parent household with good intentions but unable to face realities that produces a child who is likely unaware of the realities of the world, but may have good intentions
a lainon on the other hand would likely introduce a child to tech, but is unlikely to let tech raise the child (knowing the dangers of tech) and because of the volatile and sometimes dangerous landscape of the wired, is likely to teach the child to question things and grow up to be an independent individual who is overall on the upper part of the intelligence scale
what I am trying to say, is that many lainons are realists, and based on many of the posts, they are passionate about more than themselves (although some are highly self centered, there are plenty of posts that suggest people want to help others)
I agree with the other lainons that if you have the resources and are healthy, go ahead and raise a child, but in the absence of those, it is probably best for your own sanity to avoid it

unstable times call for unstable people. not that I dont know what your saying to, what I see is the average lainon including myself is narcissistic or histrionic. Not in a horrible way it just seems on average (im projecting here too) we can get a bit caught up in ourselves and be dramatic. If that can be overcome through maturity im sure itl be fine.
You have to remember that too, average lainon isnt ready to have kids anyways being young. And people are maturing later, having kids later. So even at 25 someone in these times may simply need more time to develop.

very true. Many a parents including my own suffered great trauma and though she hid it she did not work on it. And I internalized her outlook from a young age. I recall one time trying to relate to her and I said "You know it's okay to give up sometimes isnt it, sometimes you shouldn't try" to which she instantly responded "No of course thats not okay, you should always try". At the time I felt ashamed I even thought she would relate to that or that it would be okay, but I understand now she did relate and that's why she spoke so strongly against it. However actions speak louder than words, especially when the words contradict sometimes. My mom feared the violence of the world, and she hid that so I did not fear the violence of the world. However instead I simply learned to fear the world in general, and unsure of the reason why unlike herself.
I'd like to extend what you are saying to death even. I can't explain why but I have the most strong and certain feeling that needing to change and grow goes beyond helping yourself now or your child. That if you die with all these terrible feelings they stay with you forever, that death isn't nothing but a moment that feels like eternity in your head. It's a horrible thing to be shown to me actually because where I once believed I could kill myself if things really went to soykaf I no longer believe that would change anything. The greatest decision one could make is now meaningless to me and im more scared than ever.

I tend to agree with Stallman on the issue of children. Don't have them!

Sub-replacement fertility is the Great Filter. Every country on the planet is either at SRF or on course to reach it in a matter of decades. Despite every incentive existing to raise birth rates, nobody from Germany to Sweden to Japan has succeeded. Our population will peak at 11 billion or so and gradually tail off to zero.

assumption that current trends will last forever. Global population growth is still positive, and will likely remain so for some time.
Population tends to stabilize at a carrying capacity. Many species have a mechanism to reduce birth rates when near carrying capacity. Reduction in fertility is a good thing, it means population might stabilize.

Humans are obsolete, cloning and genetic manipulation are soon if not already viable to produce superior beings.
I dont see why anyone should chose to trap a intelligent being in a body of inferior quality.
Besides i couldnt bare living with the thought of giving something life in this diseased world.
Maybe one day the world changes and then i might reconsider, but even if then i would want my children to be locked in this pseudo structure of biologic family, id rather live in a commune then where everyone is everyones brother/sister instead of being divided just because one was born from someone else.
If i as much get that lonely and desperate that i would want kids, id adopt some and make their lives less miserable as much as i can.

Cloning is objectively inferior. It's the reproductive choice of bacteria, meanwhile complex/intelligent life overwhelmingly opts for sexuality. Enjoy being decimated in the next disaster as your human monoculture proves incapable of adaptation.

I've heard people claim that having a child is selfish because the world is a bad place, and forcing someone to suffer through living here is cruel. That's probably not such a problem though if you live in a first world country and don't abuse your kids.

Anyone who agrees with that statement is a pathetic loser, and should on no account pass on their genes. Which, funnily enough, means it really is a right answer. Any response to it retroactively makes itself true.

I'm in the same spot as you, OP. I could see the rewarding side of it, but also see that you lose a lot of freedoms.
The other hard part is finding a compatible woman. Just started dating this 31 year old who seems like she could be baby crazy. She loves playing with her brother's newborn and toddler.

>a lainon on the other hand would likely introduce a child to tech, but is unlikely to let tech raise the child
This is exactly right. Knowing how this stuff screws with people now, I would never let any future children watch TV or play on electronic soykaf until they are at an age I deem appropriate. People use cell phones and soykaf as pacifiers now and it creates ADD riddled soykaf-heads.

I'd never be allowed to adopt, not with my financial status. Yet every girl I ever dated who wanted kids later in life told me that was a poor excuse for not wanting to be a father. They seemed to think that first, I'd straighten that out somehow if I was forced to and second, it's not as important as a lot of other things. Seeing the way my most immediate neighbours struggle to keep their finances in order and ultimately do a decent job there, but also treat their kids like house pets instead of human beings, I'm starting to see what these exes of mine saw.
>>11096
Why does that make someone a "loser" and not, presumably, a "winner" like yourself?
