Studying helps me. I'd do drugs if i knew any dealers, since that isn't an option, smoking, drinking and studies help, i get a slight sense of pride and accomplishment.
Playing games, reading etc..doesn't really help me as much. It's a nice way to burn time, but it doesn't make me feel any better. Hope this helps you Lain.

Arch Linux, you won't have time to think how soykaf your life is
Erik Johansson · 2017-04-28 05:41
Dopamine seeking (hedonism)?
Sex, stimulant drugs, opioids, games, music, etc.
Ataraxia seeking (epicureanism)?
Studying and (maybe) meditation.
Want to find something beyond pleasure?
I've no answer. If you go down on stoicism and
nihilism, you'll always find yourself sad or depressed.
Maybe that's how this reality shapes itself, but if you
want to live you have admit that you're pledged into
yourself and the external "rules" (axions).
>It is always consoling to think of suicide: in that way one gets through many a bad night. --Nietzsche
Should not kill yourself, I'm not saying that. What
I'm saying is that it'll not be better with time. That's
how things work, it always goes bad. That's the entropy,
the Murphy's law.

lainchan is a pretty slow moving chan, there's no need bump threads like that to keep them alive unless they're on the last page. if you would like to see more posts, try making a reply which will facilitate more discussion.

I did at >>462
still, no more replies from other people. That's why /mega/ board is bad, and people at /q/ don't realize it. If I didn't bump you probably wouldn't see this thread anymore, because people stay focused on last threads, and not making more posts on old threads.

Is escapism a good or a bad thing?

Not good and not bad neither. It's a natural behavior.

You do realize there are more ways to look through the threads other than just endlessly scrolling through the index on /mega/, such as the catalog on /mega/ and the indexes and catalogs on the individual boards. Threads don't need to be within the first 20 pages of infinite scroll on /mega/ at all times for people to find them.

Then you reset your tolerance with Memantine+Ibogaine and go again with drugs?
Meh...

slightly underrated post
Arch Linux can take a fair bit of time to figure out for those without Linux experience (maybe a few weeks for a NEET). It's not a long term solution, but could segway into learning the UNIX environment in general, or programming in UNIX.

Creating is escaping.

Creating can be escaping but it can also be (and in my opinion should be) confrontation of reality in a way thats meaningful to creator.
My personal opinion is you can't escape forever lain. Reality drills holes in your escapist reality that your brain picks up on. The deeper you go into escapism the more painful its going to be when it cant be sustained anymore or comes crashing down in your head. There is some forms of escapism that are sustainable but are kind of pity worthy imo, like being a housewife. Especially a rich housewife, hell perhaps being rich in general (but not always). These people tend to have forgotten how the outside world works beyond their social circles.
But to the victor goes the spoils. The pains of reality are more real but so are the pleasures. Escapism is to experience lesser pleasures and pains for the most part, but every now and then the great pain of reality leaking in without the pleasure.

Escapism is good for keeping a barrier between nearby negativity and inner positivity, bad when you're avoiding positive progress, and very bad if used to avoid all suffering.
No matter how far you run, some things will catch you in the end. Escapism can help you catch your breath to run a little harder. However, i'm heavily generalizing it.

Yes, today I had my privacy invaded by family and handymen after five months of near solitude due to a leaky ceiling. You get so used to your private fapcave being a place of refuge, and then it isn't. The other resident ran and hid under the furniture somewhere. I wanted to find him and join him but he's a cat. I probably wouldn't fit.
As for creating or escaping, there's that old question of whether art is a mirror held up to nature or a hammer used to change it. I guess it depends what you choose to create and where.

I don't think stoicism makes you depressed, in my opion hedonism do it much more. Today most people are hedonists, even though they are not aware of it, and for that reason, it is no wonder that most of them are anxious, apprehensive, depressed...

Stoicism feels more like just sitting through bad times and waiting for good. Knowing that there will be bad times.
Hedonism feels not so much like the constant maximization of pleasure but just not realizing that you can change what makes you happy and that sometimes things are bad and you just have to suffer.

Arch is a problem generator, which makes it great for soaking up spare time. Just have to learn to break everything you see first, then slowly fix it. Getting startx to work was really fun and it took me a bit because I'm very stupid.
I found roleplaying helped get a sense of realization for some fantasies. You can't really be a wizard or a spy or a horse culture warlord or what have you in real life but it feels really cool to pretend for a bit. The hard part is finding mature people who want to play pretend. That turns out to be challenging. Writing, even in a way that you share with no one, can also be really fun for this. I can't paint or draw and don't really have the motivation to learn them but I imagine those would also be ways to realize the little worlds in your head. Of course you know none of it is real but that's the fun of it. I wouldn't really want to be a neolithic hunter gatherer woman, but it's fun to imagine it sometimes, the challenges I'd face and the things I'd see would just be entirely different, and so it's fun to think about them.
