It's my birthday today and nobody has told me happy birthday, not a single person. I don't know how my life got like this, I just don't understand. People seem to come and go from my life, but nobody ever chooses to stay. It's probably something that I'm doing to make it so hard to have friends, to even build relationships up to be strong enough so that people care enough about you to say happy birthday. Sometimes I like to blame my environment to, but at the end of the day this is probably a problem I am causing.
So I don't know, just felt like venting about my loneliness I guess, it gets pretty overshadowed around this time.
Happy New Years.
Zhora · 2018-01-01 01:29
Happy birthday, Lainon.
I think it takes some notice to have people greet you when they wouldn't otherwise. Just like this thread.

Happy Birthday Anon
It's same for me here. I lost all my friends in final year, seems no one gives a fuarrrk and it is easy for me to just hug loneliness.
But hey here some positives if you are feeling soykaf you can mail me I would love to have you as my friend 'sam182@protonmail.com'.

Happy birthday, lain.
My situation is exactly the same. Just as many other lains I suppose.
The first few years my birthday went unnoticed were kinda sad and weird. Now I honestly don't feel anything. And the same goes for holidays like christmass.
It pains me seeing you helpless in this situation and I wish I could help you, but I don't have an answer other than try to meet people and create bonds.
Of course, doing that you'll experience failure. But also chances are you'll meet someone you'll grow fond of.

Happy Birthday Lainon!
While I don't think I've had a birthday go by completely unnoticed yet, I've had years where only one or two people remembered it, so I can somewhat relate.
Good luck in the future OP, I'm sure things will get better. Happy new year!

Happy Birthday my Lain.
It's not a bad thing to not have friends, unless it pains you. But it's your decision either way. If you want to talk to some people, I'm sure there's people in the IRC (probably even a couple of people on the mumble server, seeing as it's New Year's).

What The fuarrrk NOBODY!
I get what you mean though, it's really hard to connect with people and they are usually more interested in more open and confident other people and you can't tell anybody cuz you can't get close enough to anybody.
I took MDMA for the 1st time with 2 others for NYE and just ended up venting everything to them. Like talking about soykaf I never would have said for fear of rejection.
I don't know man because I still can't grasp what people think of me.

Loneliness is wonderful. Generally, I prefer to be alone and to experience and appreciate the relative transience of my relationships and ultimately the whole world.
But I suppose such an answer is not what you are interested in.
Happy Birthday OP, Hope you learn to love all of your existence, even the crushing loneliness.
Haruyoshi · 2018-01-02 12:05
>Sometimes I like to blame my environment to, but at the end of the day this is probably a problem I am causing.
>People seem to come and go from my life, but nobody ever chooses to stay.
Whenever I try to make friends, they all send signals like they don't need more friends - everyone does that, even people who I know of being lonely.
That's when I stop because if I continue my friendship efforts, it makes me look like a needy ass. On the other hand, if someone would act kinda like a needy person, really wanting to befriend me, I'd feel more comfortable doing befriending actions.
It's a game theory thing I guess. Both people have to show open interest in a friendship/relationship but showing open interest is also "risky" as it will diminish your social power level.
This means that both people(or none) can be blamed in the end, don't be hard on yourself.
I don't get birthday wishes either, that's okay, I don't like greeting other people as well. It's such a pointless little thing.
Cat Mother · 2018-01-02 12:28

Lord Nikon · 2018-01-02 23:02
If you are such a waste of space that nobody cares about you even to drop a "happy birthday" on social media maybe you should re-evaluate your value as social cohesive unit and person.
If anyone cared about you they would say something.
You brought this onto yourself.

What a load of soykaf.
Tying the value of an individual to their ability to garner "Happy Birthday!"'s on social media is absurd.
Maybe you should take a look in the mirror and re-evaluate how you judge others and yourself.

No, but it is a good indicator of some social problems OP might have. And I would assume most of them are OPs fault even though he would like to claim it is his environments fault.
No normal person would be such a shut in that not even their family wouldn't say happy birthday.
All I am saying is just because a person is in bad situation doesn't mean they don't deserve it. Just because OP is lonely doesn't mean he/she didn't drive them away by acting like a douche.
We shouldn't pitty OP and try to feed him/her with attention but try to help him/her sincerely by getting to the bottom of why they didn't get a happy birthday from anyone... that is if we really cared about OP in first place.... BUT NO, you guys just want to feel good about yourselves by saying that I am a bad person and putting a one liner of "happy birthday OP" thinking everything is fine and going your own way.
fuarrrk you pompous douches.
Now, OP, why do you think no person, NO PERSON AT ALL, wanted to wish you a happy birthday? Do not give me a cop out of "they are all horrible self centred people" because even in those environments you can find some good people.
Do not delude yourself thinking OP isn't at fault of this.

There's no way to know what it is based on the post. We can speculate, but it just reflects our biases, what we want to see. If we want to see the world as basically just, we'll try to see him as a bad person. If not, we'll try to locate his problems somewhere else.

Guy you are replying to here
I see life as open ended question to be honest, so there might be my bias. If I were shy (which I was until 15, extreme social anxiety and depression from brutal bullying I endured) then I would push on and try to socialize as much as possible with anyone which I ended up doing until I realized I survived growing up in worst city of my country.
I forced myself to go on social activities outside of school that I was just remotely interested in.
This is why I think OP is a jerk, because if you're not then you want things to change.
If you are lonely you try to find friends.
If you are socialy anxious, shy and depressed you look for cure and help.
If you crave attention you post online to make others post to you (either by making inflamitory or c1rclejerk posts).
This quick craving of attention might help those with real issues as you might have said... for A LITTLE WHILE but in long run they will try to just continue fixating on online interactions than real ones because "you can't get hurt over the internet".
Push the little chick out of its nest, make OP uncomftorable, make him help himself because people on internet won't.

If it'll make you happy, birthday is nothing more than a date, as unimportant as the individual's life itself. It's all just a blip in the cosmic void, and worrying about it makes your time (the only thing that should matter for individual) goes away. Just forget about your birthday, new year and all other social conventions and do things that truly matter for you. Hope that helps.
Aristóteles Amadópulus · 2018-03-02 17:20

If you want to make your life better, make a change and there is not better day to do this than today.
Start eating healthy and delicious foods, drink 2 liters of water every day, start working out. You don't have to do it all at once, plan it out and make incremental gains. It will make you feel great and can enable you to fix your other issues which you are ashamed to talk about. Stop masturbating and your focus and overall energy will increase. Read a book, start with your to-read list. Many treasures lie undiscovered.
A better future starts today. Are you going to be the best you, or will you give up and be part of the mediocre status quo?
The decision is yours. Happy birthday.

They were probably meaningless anyways. I'm not lumping in people who had to move out of town, but some people I've met would have been better off never being acquainted in the first place.

Why do you guys care so much about birthdays?
I go out of my way to avoid anyone knowing or wishing me happy birthday. I don't tell anyone when my birthday is. If somebody asks I just avoid the question jokingly.
My mother is the only one who remembers usually. So I just act like im grateful for her.
Same for any holiday really.
