Future Goals / Self Improvement
Linda Lee · 2017-11-21 19:07
What are your goals in life? What will you do to make it happen? What will you avoid at all cost?
>Goals
I want to have a good job, move to the US, preferably somewhere with a lot of nature and forests. I would love to have a wife and children but I don't think that will happen though.
>How?
By getting my soykaf together and investing more time in learning.
>Avoid
Making debts and trusting people.

>>3710
>Goals
I want to finish my Phd and get a job in my field of studies which would be awfully hard but it's still worth a try. Also I want to work on my personality, fight with depression and anxiety and also find a girlfriend because being alone is killing me
>How?
By working as hard as I can I assume
>Avoid
Drinking too much because then I usually fall into depression, also I try to avoid wasting time on the internet which is hard. And the thing I should avoid the most I guess is overthinking and overanalyzing everything that is happening around me. It leads to nowhere and drains all my energy
I set those goals some time ago and I am not any nearer them than in the beginning it kinda is like kicking dead whales down the beach
Molly Millions · 2017-11-21 20:37
>>3710
>Goals
I want to learn more, lead a comfy, enjoyable life
>How?
By moving to Scotland/Ireland, studying, and getting a job at a small library
>Avoid
Hoarding too many useless physical things, wasting time having pointless conversations with boring people
Agent Richard Gill · 2017-11-21 21:03
>goals
Get a PhD and do research(or at least, have enough time to do research on the side).
Live in a heavily forested area.
Find someone to love.
>How?
Work hard, live life.
>Avoid
withdrawing into myself.
drug abuse.
I am doing pretty well, I think.
Nell · 2017-11-21 21:26
>>3715
>goals
Creating my own gamedev/animation studio, working with artists and earning $
Becoming security researcher
Mastering guitar (else instruments too) and having my own band
Learning to paint
Reading lots of books
Have someone to do all those things for.
Not kill myself because of depression.
Have the perfect live I've always wanted with friends with common hobbies and loving girl by my side.
Invent time machine to be able to accomplish all the goals.
>How?
Impossible, I still don't know what to cut off or sort things in time (preferably gamedev studio goes first as it is not so hard [though on needs to be lucky]).
I probably should drop my CS as it seems to be waste of time. Still not sure about it.
>Avoid
My past
Fake and dull friends I have.
Debbie Charteris · 2017-11-21 21:33
>>3716 (continuation)
On the other side I know that this "ability of success" which is given to every man of our Culture is fake. One needs tons of luck, most of us will suffer, damn underarchivers. We will burnout in the fire of our dreams and hopes, hitting the glass ceiling as the story goes.
Then what? Drugs and self hatred mixed with loveless relationships and finally having some kids which will suffer for the same reasons.
In this perspective having life similiar to one described in Sidhardtha seems quite attractive.
Ender · 2017-11-21 21:35
>>3717
By simple life I mean rejecting personal success, which is only an illusion and focusing on little things or even helping other people.
Drifter · 2017-11-21 22:08
>Goals
Be good at something, preferrably something technical, and make a decent living out of it.
Live somewhere that is surrounded by a lot of nature, keep a healthy body and a healthy diet.
Get rid of all sexual desire and attraction towards females.
>How?
That's a good one. Preferably by being my own man: writing and selling my own software and/or services.
>Avoid
Slacking, having doubtful thoughts, indecisiveness.
Void · 2017-11-21 22:13
>>3718
I already tried this, to get rid of this need of success, leave all those unreal ambitions and have simple life with simple needs. I really thought that it will make me happy, calm, that I will concentrate on appreciating life however I can't be like this. All the time I had this thought in my mind, that I can do better, that not much is needed to improve my situation and myself, just a little bit of effort and after that, a little bit more and go on. Apparently I must be constantly in this soykafty race which will never end. I have to always pursuit something, even if I know that I can't catch it. Every time I try to slow down, leave for the countryside and rest I feel good for 2-3 days and after that I have this urge to return to the city, do something, achieve, be better. Because of that I'm often in depression and anxiety, disappointed and lost but I know that I can't leave it because then I am gonna feel like I am wasting all of those opportunities to do something and after all we have only one life so every lost opportunity is lost forever. An now after all those years I think that I accepted it and I choose to be in constant fight with life, always on the edge of failure and probably nervous breakdown but I choose this over not trying and being happy with what I have. I always think that if people would be just happy with their current situation we woud be still sitting in a cave around the fire, making soykafty drawings on the walls. And after all those failures I experienced throughout my life they don't hurt that much anymore. In some strange way they even give me more strenght to act and try again. And obviously some people have easier life and they can do stuff without effort but it doesn't mean that we should just say "ah fuarrrk it, I'm outta here"

My main goal is to start buying as much second hand items as possible and whenever it's feasible. Especially with tech items. I have other major goals like getting a girlfriend and starting a family but I'm still sorting out a few more issues.
I intend to do that by either asking people or just buy things from eBay or Swappa. Or just lurk Goodwill.

Can very much relate to this.
I am pretty much good for absolutely nothing and im accepting the fact.
My only goal is to become somewhat of a trippy artist and writer.
About the former i am proficient enough to get started in using graphics and sound software.
The later i pretty much just slack off too much, but its something that cant be rushed.
I have no control over my life and myself.
If im lucky ill end up with atleast something good before i end up either in the nuthouse or dead.

>Goals
Become Immortal, Become very good at physics and biology and computer science, create a place all my own, built at least in part with my own hands. Clone myself. Attain the closest thing to godhood currently imaginable.
>How?
Complete my degree. Learn throughout my life. Acquire capital, and substantial passive income. Acquire an ocean going vessel or a place on mars. Develop necessary brute force technologies for overcoming mortality. (Organ growth, banking, cryonics, mind uploading, cybernetics, cloning, optogenetics, genetic engineering ect.) Apply technologies to self. Develop personal nation at sea or on mars using army of immortal clones and robots.
use time and resources free of outside control to ascend to effective god hood and take control over some fraction of the galaxy.
>Avoid!
Laziness, personal doubt, defeatist and deathist attitudes, evolutionary genetic programming, state actors and other outside influences that might interfere with my plans.
Unnamed · 2017-11-23 03:41
>Goals
Gain strength, become the strongest that I can be. Find some peace when I'm not training. Kill myself when I'm past my physical prime.
>how
Lift, eat, sleep, repeat.
>avoid
Society to the best extent I can, women especially.
Ivan Petrov · 2017-11-26 04:01
>Goals
I always tell myself I want to do better, just have to be more organized and try-hard; besides that it's a long list of menial things that, in the long run, don't really matter.
>How
Perseverance. Doing things, day after day, that make me happy, but do not impede my productivity. Realize that it's okay to steer away from that, and that being sad sometimes is just apart of life, and let myself be sad sometimes.
>Avoid
Giving up. I am still young, and I take advantage of the fact that I have a long blank life ahead of me, that I can do whatever I want with. I see a lot of people in this thread who've given up hope, I hope I can avoid that. I sincerely hope you guys feel better, if you're down. I know sometimes it's not simple, but that's ok,
Shogun · 2017-11-27 10:23
>Goals
Pretty stupid I guess but be famous, so that I can enjoy that lifestyle but also and more importantly so I can discuss how I was on track to being a basement dwelling perma virgin. And talk about how I was always an outcast past elementary school, was a loser, girls didnt like me etc. and that im still inside the same person. That way I hope I can be a role model for kids like me at the time who had no one to look up to who went through the same things, and so people who feel like they are worthless and won't go anywhere might strive for more.
I also want to build like art studios/learning centers where underprivileged but talented youth can have a place to express themselves and possibly get on track to being somebody. And also I want to invest in realistic drug education that explains why people do these things, what the actual effects are, and what it can potentially lead to (and why you always need to be cautious because of that).
>How
hopefully with animation, art, graffiti, something related to drawing. It would be cool if I could be one of those popular artists who literally just draws or paints and sells their work. I know thats difficult so when im not at college I work on some little garbage funny animations and when I am I do graffiti on the side. Il also start getting into music I think when im back home.
also getting a basic ass job so I can afford better clothes and take better care of myself.
>Avoid
trying to change myself too much for certain people, letting my depression get the best of me, xanax and alcohol. letting myself get away with being lazy, also letting my happiness get the best of me and making me feel like everythings okay and I don't have to work. becoming narcissistic, being mean to people. being scared of forming close friendships. suicide or having a mental breakdown. possibly drugs in general. giving up on the goals I have. lots of things to avoid.

Thats a pretty admirable stance to me.
However i like to give you a word of warning, being an artist is not easy.
Particularly the way you are, given the current state of art.
Expecting to be famous is unrealistic and you will suffer from motivational problems quickly if you make this to your goal.
Instead you should just focus expressing whatever it is that you like.
Your work should be more important to you than others.
Best of luck to you, if you ever make it be sure to let us know in some way.
The Fin · 2017-11-29 02:16
>>3809
Grind grind grind and make your art your only concern, and always strive to be better and feed off as many different inspirations as possible.
Only through hard work can you expect to achieve anything at all, let go of anything that does not get you closer to being a better artist.
I think art is most worthwhile because for one thing it is a window out of the nightmare of wageslaving, and also because it allows you to funnel your energy in a creative outlet (obviously), and most of all, because you don't really need any resources you can't get readily. Of course there is aways better equipment that you could get, but limitations are often the perfect framework to stimulate creativity.
Best of luck and I know you'll make it.

Do you want to avoid false relief or do you want to avoid drugs. because if you think avoiding false relief will help you avoid drugs you are very wrong and there is many things you could potentially get addicted to.
just a heads up more than anything. ive seen people with similar reasons avoid drugs but then when they tried one drug it took over their life because they got no false sense of happiness or relief from it. its actually sometimes easy to get addicted to things that make you feel terrible, thinking that you feeling terrible is you facing your problems or inner demons.
Koos van der Merwe · 2017-12-05 06:54
>Goals
I want to be one of the best at drawing, painting and sculpting to leave my mark on the world and express the things that truly matter to me. I want to learn as many languages as possible and experience as many different cultures as possible.
>How?
By relentlessly cultivating discipline. By taking risky life decisions to put my goals before anything including life comfort and personal security.
>Avoid
Being complacent, addictions and creating bad dopamine circuits. The temptation of spending all my time networking instead of practicing. Relationships with women, unless it's an exeptional kind that can work with everything stated. Which I don't think it can.
Five years ago I was nothing and an empty shell about to die. Now I want to give life my everything even if I die alone, unknown and with nothing but my own art on myself.

Thanks. Im not too worried about the grind, at the moment I have no choice but to draw whether im ever recognized for it or not. its the only thing that makes my brain happy enough that it gets me out of my depression, and the only thing that will make me allow myself to fall asleep at night.
Im sort of at the grind right now, im good enough to where I can always draw something that your average person would think looks good, but I have a long way before im ever seriously professional or good. This is the moment I thought I might quit art like everything else but it looks like im sticking with it. When I get bored ever playing with another medium or mixing some seems to reinvigorate me and then I can switch back.
I did realize last week I have to be putting in 10x the effort. My friend pointed out that at the moment even if I color or shade I still just sketch. At most a piece takes me a few hours. And that I need to take some of these sketches and try developing them into fully finished pieces and spend days on them so ive started doing that. For some reason that never crossed my mind till he said that.
Acid Burn · 2018-02-10 14:02
>Goals
I will learn all the languages,
work as many jobs i can untill satisfaction then move on,
learn all the skills that i can (music, programming, martial arts, health, art ,etc...),
experience all the things life has to offer the bad before the good,
reach political status with the goal of bettering the life of those around me,
get married and ensure that my children surpass me in every way(in a sense i wish to correct my parents trivial mistakes) ,
later in life live in a quite place near any water mass where people row and after all I've done i will pass away knowing that i achieved all my dreams just for myself and no one else.
>How?
By dedicating my whole being to any task at hand until completion and to constantly overcome my limits and limitations .
By periodically adapting the most beneficial Habits, Philosophies, Experiences and Thoughts of others and working them into my life.
By accepting the uncertainty that is existence and using it for my advantage .
By using creativity as a tool for both reaching what i desire and inspiring others to do the same.
By acknowledging that everyday may be the last so that can live like it is .
And finally by enjoying the life I'm living no matter what .
>Avoid
Both overestimating and underestimating myself and others,
Limiting myself to a single paradigm for too long,
self-stagnation, the laws of other men,
disapproval of anything or anyone for any reason, Envy, Fear, Sadness but if these emotions ever arise then i must fully embrace them until they're gone.
And finally the need for validation from others .

i do nerd soykaf for the army so i can tell you some general advice for m'litary though i'm about as far from a ranger as can be so not much help there. i've heard a few tips here and there though
depending on how much time until you ship you'll especially want to run a whole lot. if you don't have that much time then do what you can.
be prepared for a lot of bullsoykaf. no matter how prepared for bullsoykaf you are there will always be more, at least until you get to your unit where it may cut back a bit. and for the love of all that is holy don't be that overly motivated new guy trying to take on the world. you probably have heard this before but 'right time right place right uniform' is really all you need. do that until you get a feel for what's going on then after that start looking for ways to be high speed.
best of luck, out of curiosity are you also going airborne?

Really what I wanna avoid is being a tryhard boot after osut. I haven't heard "right place right time right uniform" before, could you expound on that?
and just out of curiosity are you a 17C?

17c, nah i wish. 25 series for me. if i reenlist (unlikely, hah.) i'll make sure i have that reclass in my contract though
rangers i know do distance running as well but it seems you're pretty set in that area
'right place, right time, right uniform' is pretty much what it sounds like; at least until you get responsibility (sgt and above) you'll be told where, and when to be and in what uniform. all you have to do is not be stupid, show up and do what you're told. if your leadership isn't setting you up for success then that kind of goes out the window but if they're competent at all you'll get direction for nearly everything you need to do
it's kind of odd being as techie as i am in the army, even in my unit which is 90% signal i'm kind of one of the more weird nerds. but it's not like i cared what normal folks thought of me anyway...

>Goals
Get my degree so I can get a real job. Move out of the south to the west onto a nice plot of land. Build a small six-hundred square-foot home with purchased materials or a cabin kit. I'm my own man and do what the hell I want for the rest of my life. Spend my weekends working on the property, doing fun comfy stuff, and gaining more knowledge. Vacations I'd go to the coast, cities, hunting, or exploring nature. Just living freely and not being a slave to debt/work.
But I really just want some sense of community or connection with other people. I've never truly had friends and was only a piece of dong girls could throw away after a month. I want someone to actually reciprocate when I express love and interest. I've only been on the fringes of friend groups and I feel like nobody actually wants me. I've felt a connection with maybe three people but I seem to scare them or something goes wrong.
>How?
I guess get my ass in gear and get back to school. I'm twenty-two now and the clock is ticking. I can't work construction for my entire life and I want to be free. I'll also need to more practice on carpentry, framing, electrical, and other stuff if I am to make my own home.
As for making a real human connection, I don't know. I feel like something just may be wrong with me since I didn't socialize too much in my formative years and I can scare people sometimes. Maybe I am going after the wrong people or I need to open up more. Best I can do is try my best at it.
>Avoid
Letting myself become content with a stagnant, empty life. Video games, drinking, imageboards, mindless media. I've been running in the same place for years and I'm tired. I need some change and real goals in my life.

Hobby wise playing more piano and buying my dream car. Also spending my recreational time better, preferably in nature. That means going hunting, fishing, hiking, camping more often.
>How?
Getting my soykaf together. Studying more, being more focused, becoming more disciplined. Taking chances which are in front of me. Paying attention to what I say more. Sticking to my workout and nutrition schedule. Doing meditation (simple breathing excersices)
>Avoid
Procrastination, telling lies, letting opportunities slip away right in front of me. Being rude to people for no reason. Spending my free time with garbage (social media, stupid youtube videos, stupid video games).
2018 is half over and I fuarrrked up some stuff big time, made some progress regarding other things. I will try to do my best for the rest of the year and hope to be in a better place one year from now.
