Discuss bodies, yours or others, and how they affect you mentally.
In particular what i'd like to know is:
Do you have any kind of hatred or disgust of your meatspace form, and how do you forget about it?

Not particularly. I like to daydream about being pregnant and having children. The only thing I resent is the fact that picking scabs leaves ugly scars.

I used to hate it and call it the flesh prison and hoped to get augmentations.
Now i am indifferent, its just a body, it does its work for now.
If i am older and have the means i might get body part replacements, but what would fascinate me more would be neural augmentations.

This may be an unpopular opinion around here but here goes.
I think the human body is marvelous. Yeah, we are the weakest animals on earth, we can get diseases from almost anything, whereas most other animals wouldn't be affected. We are also weak and clumsy.
But we can turn this around, and that's what I like about the human body, we can do anything, we can condition our body to do amazing stuff, and we can even prevent diseases through movement and perhaps the use of herbs.
A lot of people wish they had some superpower, yet we have the chance to actually get them, like the monks at shaolin who can take a staff breaking on their neck.
The downside is that we have to really work hard at it, but I am not a proponent of implants and augmentations. Sure, they are /cyb/ as fuark, and I don't care if someone does it, I just don't think they're necessary and I would rather get those skills through hard work.
Sadly, the culture in which we are living aims to isolate us further from nature in every way. We stay inside with our lights on during the night we walk along the sidewalk, we run from the rain, take our coats with even slightly cool weather. We sit all day in our living rooms, or in our jobs, and this discourages the development of the body, even the aspect of fitness we defer it to machines that isolate muscle groups without a regard for functional strenght.
Our posture is bad, our stamina and agility are suboptimal, and our breath is shallow. We depend on pharmaceutical pills to alleviate our pain instead of going through it and taking it as a hint that something's wrong with our body, and we depend further more on medication when the patology manifests in it's final consequences.
Here goes another unpopular opinion, but I think modern society has spoiled our bodies and generally kept us from developing the way that we are supposed to. I do believe that "progress" has gotten out of hand and that we have misused technology. In a way I'm saying: technology has been very detrimental to our health.
Splicer · 2017-05-07 19:33
>>332
I agree with some aspects of it, even though i had not thought it through until now.
I have severe depression, the "i'll leave my job because i'm sure i'm just a problem here" kind. And i refuse to take medicine because i believe this is something i should figure it out on my own.
I don't take medicine for minor aches, i prefer to do things in a way that leaves my body intact. I enjoy my body and i wish i could take care of it more (i used to, but not now).
I don't agree that our bodies are spoiled though, it's a choice, we have tons of people around, some are spoiled, others aren't. We exercise what we use, if our bodies are weak is because they have less use, they're essentially less important now.
Also, even though i'd rather not take most kinds of medicine, i'd very easily replace body parts if that allowed me to live longer.

I agree that we have misused tech to some degree. It makes sense from a business perspective though, they wanted to design tech with comfort and simplicity in mind to get the best sales. That being said, tech has greatly improved our ability to workout and live healthier lifestyles, but working out and being healthy take ambition and focus.

Things ive been told about my body, in order of frequency
Face: Ugly, Cute, Interesting, Memorable, looks like im from a movie
Body: Strange, weird, long torso, bony, look chubby with clothes on, stout, slight hunch.
Overall: Ugly, cute, bummy, intimidating, angry looking
So ive gathered that im ugly to most people but to a select few im strange looking enough that im "cute" but not necessarily attractive. If I grow my facial hair out apparently cute turns into threatening and people dont want to talk to me as much, my roomate says hes scared of me with facial hair. So I try to shave, but when im in a bad mood I dont.
Id like to not be so hunched over, I think its one of my worst flaws I could actually fix. Its prob a combo of me not liking eye contact and always looking down in middleschool, heavy backpacks, and overuse of computer throughout youtj. I try to workout at least once a week including working back out and also walk a lot and its improved a little. If I have a coat on or layers it looks fine and I just look kind of rough around the edges but with a tshirt on I look obviously strange.
Im not any standard definition of pretty, and I think this has caused me to have an intense distrust of typical pretty people, as I was made fun of by these sorts of people when I was younger. Primarily suburbanite clean cut blue eyed white people. My schools were always half white half mexican, and despite me being white I tended to hang out with the kind of nerdy mexican kids. Im a lot more trusting of people who arent white or have visible tattoos and piercings, are a bit strange looking in a good way to me.
My only issue my body presents to me is that I need to have a personality that compensates for my lack of good looks and im not there yet. I have a slight jealousy and hatred for people who can say stupid things that if I were to say I would be looked at funny, just because their pretty. Im not a relateable person, so unless someone shows interest in me I keep my mouth shut, something I wouldnt have to do and I wouldnt be perceived as so anti social if I was prettier. Ive never had an official relationshiop, ive never been kissed or had sex, but have been sexually abused twice both by girls once in middleschool once in my adulthood, and both I was in a kind of friend relationship with. I dont really know what about the way I look attracts that, and both seemed to want to keep anything sexual going on from developing into a relationship and did it behind closed doors. I know my personality allows people to do this to me, I probably kind of enjoy it. But it makes me feel like because im not a standard definition of pretty they dont want to have me in a official relationship or im not worthy of showing off. Or that maybe the fact that they are attracted to me makes them angry because im not attractive.
Ivan Horvat · 2017-05-08 15:29
Is anyone else obsessed with their reflection? I really don't understand why I am; I don't find myself particularly attractive, but I take any opportunity I can to see myself. Hell I've been staring at the reflection of my face in the border of the monitor as I type this.

I like human bodies in general. I think they're aesthetic.
As for my body, so many people say I'm cute, but that's because my camera isn't good. People even call me cute offline, but that's because they aren't looking closely. I have a large, large number of scars and blemishes everywhere. It makes me feel distressed.
Otherwise I'm okay with having a human body.
>>347
I don't see myself often enough in a mirror, that when I do see my reflection, I sometimes feel curious or confused.
Anamika · 2017-05-17 10:53
I don't particularly like my body or appearance. What makes me most unattractive is probably my boring personality and severe lack of self confidence. I think being extroverted could help with that, though I'm not willing to change that because I hate people in general.
But there's some things that I'm thankful for, like having green eyes, pretty neat, I think. Also not being fat even though I do nothing but sit infront of a computer all day and drink soda (which in turn helps me forget about my meatspace existence).
Lord Nikon · 2017-05-17 12:57
The human body in general disgusts me. A filthy slab of rotting meat and boiling fat, leaking sweat and vomit over every surface it touches. It cooks in fire like any other meat, and is vulnerable to even a sharp stick! Disgorging its slimy, half-liquid waste with a horrendous smell and a pained push every day. With greasy hairs protruding through what any sensible designer would make a solid, sterile casing.
The limbs are too few and too short, with two of them completely useless for any sort of fine dexterity; they're clumsy stubs of what they could be. The tongue is stunted, barely able to extend from the mouth at all, a few inches at most.
The teeth are dull, rounded, and small. They also rot if you leave them to do so, becoming yellow-green balls of pure filth instead of the steel daggers that teeth should be.
And of course, the whole thing eventually rots and becomes worm feces.

I'm introverted yet I don't find it too hard to socialise: one needn't be extroverted to socialise.
But being introverted does mean my standards are high as for who I'll deal with. But when someone meets those standards, I often get along well, and people have really enjoyed my presence.
Do you hate humanity itself, or just bad people? If the latter, you may find a few good people on earth.

One thing that might restore your faith a bit is that mass media and pop culture is usually there just to sort to connect people. Many people involve themselves with it just because its a common thing most people bear witness to and can talk about. Its important to more judge people on who they are rather than how much they have in common with you.
Regardless a lot of "introverts" do just like to keep around a few good friends and thats not a bad thing. Its just a difference, it may even be a positive. Im kind of like that, I tend to only introduce myself when introduced to new people to those that I feel I really vibe with and go out of their way to talk to me. And it usually makes for more fulfilling and better relationships anyways.

I want to try doing something new with my hair though, but I'd have to learn about relaxers and different conditioners.

I am rather insecure about my looks. I have been extremely underweight since ever. I look like a skeleton in a skin and I'm really shy about showing my body or even wearing t-shirts. I'm feeling very unsafe even when I show my body to my gf.
The worst thing is I seem to be unable to gain weight no matter what I do. I used to have a diet, didn't do much at all even though I was really strict about it. I tried to live like a pig, eating chips and drinking cola and beer all the time, yet I gained almost zero weight. I can't even lift, because I'm so slim I have nothing to make muscles bigger
Pris · 2017-05-21 19:07
Supposedly I'm attractive, so in a superficial sense I don't mind my body. I'm pretty short at 5'7" but I don't think anyone even cares that much besides vapid cunts of women and vapid douchebags of men.
However, I have a genetic disorder that affects my collagen and therefore connective tissue and skin(EDS), and as a result my shoulders partially dislocated with even 5 pounds of force. I can't do more than 2 or 3 pushups without moderate to severe joint pain, and I weight 145-150 pounds. Worse, it's spreading to my knees and standing for several hours is a chore to me. Exercise is basically impossible to do safely, even though I need and want to do it for my mental health. That's fuarrrking bullsoykaf, and the only viable treatment is a 30,000-dollar stem cell injection that takes over a year to cultivate and isn't approved by the FDA or covered by insurance yet, so I'd have to take several trips to Cancun and pay out of pocket. That's also fuarrrking bullsoykaf. I don't really think about it that much, since it's been that way all my life, but I would like to be able to work out, man

I'm the same as well.
Recently, during finals season, I didn't have time to exercise at all for about two weeks. I lost about two kilograms from doing nothing at all.
Sometimes I wish I were bigger, and sometimes the girlfriend points out that I have skinnier legs than she does. When I don't exercise for a while and lose weight, I feel weaker and less steady, and sort of "insubstantial", somehow.
But then I remember that it's easy to find clothes that fit me, I can wear loose, comfy clothes and look good, I can eat whatever I want without the slightest guilt, and I don't have to spend so much money on food to maintain my weight.
So being skinny really isn't all bad at the end of the day. I, for one, quite like it.
And hey, it could be worse. I could be fat.

I have no particular hatred toward my body. Disdain at times, and some frustration as to its limitations and requirements. But no outright hatred.
My form is wraithly, I truly resemble a skeleton everywhere but in the face. This is of course by design, as I practice 25% calorie restriction in the interest of extending life and health. Additionally, I practice 30 minutes to one hour of substantial calisthenics daily to promote bone and joint health, and to improve muscle density and power to weight ratio.
The way I see it, I am merely a information embedded in a machine, I can be tuned and have certain maintenance requirements. When superior alternatives become available, I will likely move on to greener pastures or to a form more suited to my task at that time. But for now, I have this one form and must make the best of my available resources to keep it functioning smoothly and for as long as possible, or until those superior forms become available.
I have never had reason to dislike my body beyond its relatively crude design. I am a white male, standing 1.78 meters tall, weighing 53 kilograms, with fairly clean skin that is lightly and unevenly tanned and marked with mild scars and scrapes in some locations and a few bruises from time to time, small flesh sores sometimes appear on my back and chest but promptly go away when washed thoroughly.

Do you mean that you don't know any way to gain weight, or you know *how* to do it but find yourself lacking the appetite to eat enough?
The "how" should be a simple matter of eating enough calories[1], there's loads of tools that help you calculate how much[2] and even plan meals for them [3].
The appetite problem is more complex and I frankly don't know how to solve it.

Maybe if I get thin enough I'll always look thin? I think I'd be happy with a BMI of under 18. I've been trying to lose weight for the past few months, but I never last more than a few days. I have no self control.
Ender · 2017-05-28 13:36

Lain, it sounds like you might have anorexia. A goal BMI of 18 is overdoing it, even taking into account that BMI is kind of a soykafty metric. If you lose too much weight, your body will stop working properly. There's documented biases and psychological oddities that make people misjudge how their own body looks.
I can't be sure of this through an anonymous imageboard of course, but please investigate whether you might have some sort of body dysmorphia. We don't want your meatbag to shut down because of a lack of resources. It's where you live, after all.

I was somewhat recently diagnosed with major depression, and I've started antidepressants that are pretty strong. My mood is only different to such an extent that my body feels different, really, or maybe they're both affected the same way. Whatever it is, my metabolism has shot through the roof and I have an excess of energy most of the time.
I have gotten into running with a weight vest recently, but strangely my endurance has almost tripled since I've started taking this stuff. Yesterday I wasn't thinking much and I ended up running for 6 miles with 20 lbs in the vest. Before, I wouldn't make it to 3 miles. I'm starting to get slimmer, too, but that might have to do with my vanishing appetite.

When I was a child, I didn't have any sort of self awareness, and as such I completely neglected my physical apearance and body. I never washed, had acne all over, and was that fatty in every class, and I was ok with that. But after a bout of depression and a few crushes in my teenage years, I finally started to really care for my appearance. Since then I think I've improved alot but even now, I still feel like I'm that disgusting kid from before. And although I worry about my appearance more than ever I just can't seem to let anyone know about it for fear of being ridiculed.
I also place a lot of my self-confidence on my appearance, but since I regard myself as ugly and fat most of the time my self-confidence is basically zero as well.

If you are still heavy, try shedding some excess weight. I was heavy as a teen as well and lost weight after high school which really helped my self esteem. Careful, not sure if guy or girl but either way actually calling someone cute, while it does mean you are attractive in some way, also means they dont probably see you as an equal. Bad people also will see it and want to take advantage of it, usually just looking cute isnt enough to be called it you have to have that kind of personality too. Just protect yourself is all im saying dont let some guy or girl do whatever he/she wants to you because they make you feel special.
