Anyone else not have friends?

Judge Fang · 2017-09-09 19:57
In the genuine sense. No one you hang out with, not even a person online? I've not had a single friend since middle school and I've not been close with anyone online in years. I'm on IRC and here, and of course talk to people but I'm merely familiar with them. I've not had any PM conversations. There's maybe one person who's almost someone I could consider a friend but considering I leave IRC and lainchan randomly for a month here and there, there's a distance I put between people. Not something I'm depressed about but it'd be nice if I got close.

>>2576 Dude doesn't know what he's talking about. Please don't post this video because it makes privacy advocates look stupid. He reads a bunch of legalese about "collecting" information, seeming to internally draw a distinction between them holding data such as chat messages for the purpose of operating the service and for unspecified nefarious purposes ("snooping through your soykaf"). For legal purposes, there is of course no distinction, both are "collection" and "processing". Then he makes a big deal about a sentence with no legal meaning ("We are not in the business of selling your information") supposedly masking some hidden meaning. The fact is that it's a completely vacuous sentence, and should be taken at face value with the understanding that it doesn't mean anything, none of this "well technically they're in the business of being a voip service but they make money by selling your data". Bullsoykaf, Google is an ad company that runs a search engine, not the other way around. It's not up to them to categorize their business. Asset transfer clauses are standard ass-covering (preventing costly obligations to properly inform customers when restructuring occurs), and yes, they only apply to reorganization. Asaratha HS even blurs out the part of the paragraph stating that so that he can say "see this clause gives them a free pass to sell your data since it's an asset", which is the only time I think he might be intentionally misleading rather than just uninformed himself. OpenFeint was a weird one, on the surface it appears that the filings describe a hypothetical user tracking scheme as fact without evidence, though maybe there's circumstantial stuff that someone else can point to. It's possible that the plaintiff just wanted to use the courts to force OpenFeint to produce documents proving what he claimed (if it was true), but he ended up voluntarily dismissing the case years before this video was made. Sorry for the off topic rant. None of this detracts from the actual facts that Discord is (1) a proprietary and centralized SaaSS, (2) running an unsustainable business with VC money, (3) perfectly capable of selling you out when the VC money ends. I just don't want people to get the idea that the best arguments for avoiding Discord come from uninformed gaming youtubers. Read https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/who-does-that-server-really-serve.html, use IRC and Mumble.

yeah OP, i don't got friends, but i don't really know why to be honest, probably because i'm an avoidant type of guy that people can't get around of don't worry it's not weird and rare it's actually becoming more common these last decades. you'll find someone.

>>2569 The first three sentences describe my current social life perfectly. I'm afraid of social interactions IRL. I'm also anxious about having a persistent identity of any kind, to the point where I can't even use services that require a username, much less any sort of voice communication. Anonymous chans and wikis are literally the only places where I have any sort of positive online presence nowadays.

what do you mean genuine sense. Does that mean, "my situation". if you are a particularly lonely person the more friends you have the less people you will consider friends. your just going to learn theres hardly anybody you can count on, and the people you can count on you might have no respect for as they just mindlessly follow you. at the end of the day you have as many friends as a lot of people in a given moment of time, aka 0. your phrasing of genuine sense due to lack of experience doesnt change that. Also its mostly just a propability game, the more people you expose yourself to the greater chance you meet someone who you click with. your best bet is to talk to people who never approach anyone because that seems to be you.

>>2642 I am wondering if this fear of persistent personality, being the same person for the whole time, building some picture of yourself is something we got from chans or it was inside us for the whole time. I remeber that even before i discovered chans I was changing all my nicks and account on most of the forums I used to visit regularly, because it made me somehow feel safe and calm. I start form the beginning, I don't have all the baggage of the past, I can shape myself however I want and when I get bored I will start again. It's a thing which is quite shocking and completely strange for the normal people from what I've seen so far.

I dumped all my so-called friends and burned the bridges. Now, money buys the finest friends. Feels good man.
