What's something you wish more people would know of? Whether it's a skill, a piece of knowledge, a book excerpt, advice, a genre of music, a game, or a website.(USER WAS WARNED FOR THIS POST, Please elaborate in your opening post in future, as per the /hum/ sticky, The opening post for any thread must always be descriptive without exception; elaborate on intent and the why, rather than simply the what., As per the rules page 4. I'd recommend Philosophy for Non-Philosophers by Louis Althusser, but that book hasn't been uploaded in PDF form in English on the Internet as far as I know, but you can find it in French and Spanish on libgen.io .
There is another written by George Politzer: http://gen.lib.rus.ec/book/index.php?md5=A6FE6A6176D1D07813DAF95C7CC16F0A
It is good, but I don't find it as good at the first. Still, it is great as a primer.

Actually, it's not that far from the truth. Unconditional worshippers of free market are (mostly) laymen who have comprehended the basic principles of economics and think that they have it all figured out. Communists are laymen attempting to solve the most complex problems without even the basic understanding of said problems or apparatus to understand them. Both are grave oversimplification and conceit.

Most people just ignore the stuff that grows wild, even though its often nutritious, tasty, easy to grow and process.
Economy and healthcare would be much relived if people would ask themselfs what is what instead of writing it off as a weed they have to fight to keep their little lawn.

I wish everyone who uses a computer could use the command line and shell scripting. People have no idea how inefficient they are being and just how much of what they do could be automated easily. There is no need for everyone to learn programming but if everyone could, for example do bulk operations on a bunch of files in a folder without downloading special GUI programs for each specific task they would be much better off.

Time to get the thread back on track with materials.
Appleman1234 · 2017-07-13 07:25
This thread is off topic and will be restored to topic and warned appropriately.
Please do not the let new BLUE warnings and suggestions confuse you.
I wish that people would read the rules, and respect the rules.
And hence as a result , they would be less likely to make 2 line opening posts that don't elaborate on why they are asking a question, and what their own suggestions for answers are.
Which leads to respondents seeing 2 line OP and thinking that 1 line or one word responses are a sufficient level of dialogue.
Nothing has been deleted yet (though something have been moved to more appropriate place) and no bans have been issued. The thread has been temporarily locked whilst it is being moderated. This thread has been unlocked, please take good care of it.

Go (the board game, not the programming language). It's pretty big in the East, but I wish it were more well known in the West, as finding opponents can be pretty hard.
For those who don't know, Go is a game of strategy dating back at least three millenia, where players aim to create more territory than their opponent. Because of the large board (19x19) and length of games, no two games are ever the same, and you can keep getting better your whole life.

Rejuvenation technology
Within 20-30 years it is VERY likely biotechnology will have reached a point wherein aging will be optional. Yet becase of people still seeing this as Sci fi this field of science is very badly founded which increases the risk of Rejuvenation technology taking up to 100 years to hit the market, meaning certain death for many of us.

I'm OP, and I thought that my warning was pretty fair. Just asking "What" without a "Why" makes the question a lot less open-ended, and can lead to some pretty simple posts.

Just straight up deleted.

You probably could have. It seems to be mostly OPs or very short replies that beg for elaboration like the one word replies in this thread. Even then, it's only some blue text.
>>1647
Wait. How did you get from reasons for short posts to personal attacks? Who were you even attacking and why? You could always try again without the getting personal bit. In general you're going to have trouble convincing anyone of anything after you insult them. People just don't work like that, they get defensive.
Also they're usually pretty reluctant to delete stuff, are you sure it wasn't just moved? He mentioned moving stuff before.
Emmanuel · 2017-07-17 09:29

maybe I didn't explain myself clear. my first post had zero personal attacks. and it was posted on /q/. there was no reason for it's deletion. Was several paragraphs, by no means was me "spewing soykaf", and was a very nice post with me giving a lot of room saying that maybe I was the idiot in the situation and just didn't understand.
it was after that was deleted I mad a "passive agressive post" in this thread. By personal attack I meant I said appleman probably loves to hear the sound of his own voice, and that was pretty much the extent of it.

Your post wasn't deleted. It was merged with the existing complaints / feedback in /q/ about warnings , see >>>/q/4381 .
Because it was a merge (as opposed to a move) and it was on the same board, there is no shadow-merge functionality (because merge's keep the same post IDs) yet, so no notification of the move was available.

I wish everyone would have read "Good Calories, Bad Calories" by Gary Taubes 10 years ago and gave up sugars for any non-trans fats. It's been 50 fuarrrking years of sugar lobby money in diets recommended by government agencies.
I wish people knew that many over-the-counter medications can be replaced with a proper diet and some berries, leaves and nuts. Active ingredients in most of those won't ever be in a "proper" pill produced by a big pharma corporation because they can't be patented (because of "exists in nature" criteria).

The sources are all youtube videos. I don't really have time to watch them, but the minute someone starts rattling off about the global elite and how most people don't realize whats REALLY going on, it appears to me they are just someone whos entered their own little hugbox of conspiracy theories and is only delving deeoer and deeper in. Seeing everyone else as dumb idiots who just don't do their research, when actual real research points in other directions and only specifically searching for that which you want to hear will paint a picture of some global elite bent on world destruction.

He's not a troll, but maybe thats what its really come down to. I don't disagree maybe there is a global elite, hell there probably is the 1%. Yet the minute someone starts talking about it its always linked to some alt right soykaf and gets twisted into some weird alex jones plot where they are pure evil and want to destroy mankind.
If there is one this was their goal all along, discussing things like that will eventually cause anyone to completely assume you are alt right and a troll. Making the right conspiracy theorists only push even harder as they feel the elite is winning, causing everyone else to further ignore anyone bringing up such ideas.

Do you think it's possible to eliminate the need for any and all opiod or pain pills (for example, if you just had a surgery and are in the recovery period) by simply eating a lot of greens and drinking berry almond milk smoothies instead? Or is there some other stand-alone "pain relief" edible natural product (besides cannabis, I know people use that) that can do this? I love researching into healthy diets and natural medicines.

I wish people would know more about psychanalysis and psychology in general.
90% of people are only puppets of their own uncounscious without even knowing it, and all of their arguments and rational theories are made for the sole purpose of supporting ideas, mental structures and ways of thinking they acquired as children.
Most of intellectuals are the same, but they're better at justify those with (seemingly) logical statements.
The unconscious' influence is absolutely destructive of every bite of rationality in particular when talking about sex-related topics, but it's not limited to them only. And it influences people's actions too, not only ideas.
If someone wants to try to free itself from all of this i suggest as a first reading "games people play" by Eric Berne. It is a bit simplicistic on some things but it's a great start, short, interesting to read, and you surely will want more when you finish it. Then you can pass to other Berne books, Freud ones, and so on with heavier and heavier stuff. Even having read only Freud, you'll gain acces to A fuarrrkING TON of other philosophers' and thinkers' works which have his themes in them, in particular pratically all of the french ones who, i dunno why, seem to love the matter.
