>How you deal with it?
I put on my glasses every morning, it's really a terrible thing.
Guthrie · 2017-07-03 14:15
i used to have between 11/10 and 12/10 for both eyes, but now they have worsened, in partocular the right one, so i have something like almost 10/10 for the left one and 9.25 for the right one. I know this is still a good vision, but i feel fuarrrking blind due to the change
Six · 2017-07-03 14:36
Better than 20-20 here lain.

15/20 with glasses, 25/20 without
My vision is great out to my fingertips, then drops off
Everybody should practice 20/20/20 to avoid the inevitable shortsightedness that comes from staring at screens all day. Every 20 minutes you should look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. I'm only 21 and I can already tell that I've gotten more shortsighted over my life.
Morpheus · 2017-07-03 19:40
My vision is pretty bad. Not only do I have myopia but one eye's much worse than the other. The left's -2.75 and the right is -5.25 or something. I don't remember the exact numbers since it's been years since the last check. I pretty much inherited that from my inferior slavic side.
>How do you deal with it?
I just wear my glasses, never had a problem with it. Always had an ugly mug anyways so it doesn't make a difference. Not getting corrective eye surgery by the way. I don't think it's worth the risk.
Cypher · 2017-07-03 20:12
Myopia and astigmatism in both eyes.
Constantly getting worse, too.
OD -5.75 -0.25
OS -6.75 -0.75
>How you deal with it?
As with others, I just wear my glasses and hope it doesn't degrade into blindness one day.
I got a new pair a couple weeks ago from a new optometrist and discovered that getting the right frame can make a big difference. My last pair was way too small. Not only were they uncomfortable, but I had a small viewing area and experienced a lot of distortion around the edges.
Marly Krushkhova · 2017-07-03 20:51
At a bit less than arm's length from the screen, and I can't read with my left eye. My right eye's good for a bit more. I think it's something like 20/200 on my right and 20/400+ for my left. My brain automatically turns off my left eye without visual correction or consciously deciding to use it, so I have a halfway-lazy-eye that I can control.
Spooky · 2017-07-05 17:49
Nearly blind. Its no problem, though. My other senses seem to have caught up and honed themselves because I use them more.

my vision is very similar to yours. my worse eye has stopped getting worse. i'm 21 now and i got what i believe will be my last prescription update. don't worry about it too much and don't think about getting mechanical eyes, there's too big a risk with that. even if there's no backdoor there may be other software errors
Splicer · 2017-07-06 06:46
I have really soykaf vision along with astigmatism. I've had eye issues since I was 5 and my vision continues to degrade each year, despite the constant checkups.
I just hope I don't go blind, I need my eyes to program.
Undisclosed · 2017-08-12 02:38
I was legally blind, we're talking -10.75 range (can't remember the other)
got PRK laser treatment, it differs a bit from Lasik in that it costs a helluva lot more but it's the only treatment approved of by the military (my career goal at the time).
10 years later and my eyesight has started to worsen again, but nowhere near as bad as it was, -1ish. I blame staring at computer monitors all the time.
One weird thing about the treatment, they actually resurface the lens of your eye (better hope it's thick or you won't be eligible) so while the surgery is being performed, you're awake and you can smell your eyes being burned.
Hong, Guil Dong · 2017-08-12 17:00
I had better than 20/20 once, and could, for example read the route # on a bus well before it came close enough for anyone else to see. Now? Two years ago the doctor said to come back in four because I'll probably need glasses.
And since then, there is a marked deterioration and I'm blaming the sillyphone in my hand for that. When I look up from it, all is a blur for a moment and I can't discern faces more than 40 or 50 feet away until I adjust.
nanophyr · 2017-08-12 21:59
-4.5 and -4.75
Been wearing contacts for about 8 years or so.
As soon as my prescription stabilises I will probably get surgery for it.
Dealing with contacts everyday can be a nuisance
Yuki Nagato · 2017-11-06 21:52
i have lenses
around -8 or 9
Hitomi · 2017-11-07 03:25
My distance vision was really deteriorating, so I tried some eye exercises I read about, and invented some new ones, at the time I thought I was being really clever combining Bates with Feldenkrais, but now I think I just reinvented Orthoptics.
But it worked, my eyes are fine now. Apart from allergies and an annoying eyelid twitch.
Other people have expressed interest in my system of eye exercises, but I've concluded that it's a waste of my time and theirs trying to teach it, as they never actually do the exercises.
I think people really start freaking out if you teach them a new way to use their eyes, in the same way as trying to change the way they breathe make them go into a panic, like they're going to die. People are just inflexible and stupid, and their bad habits are all tied up with their self image.
The Oracle · 2017-11-07 06:23
I have -7.5 in both eyes. Contacts are well worth the money until I get lasik, otherwise I look like a bug person with magnified eyes.
Also it's a pet theory of mine that some aspects of what we know as autism spectrum disorders are caused by having bad vision as a child and not being able to grow up learning how to discern emotions on faces.
Molly Millions · 2017-11-17 14:29
I can see the bottom row of a tumbling E chart from 5 meters away.

can you elaborate a bit? I've never heard of orthoptics and though I have 10/10 vision, I would like to train my eyes a bit
Mentat · 2017-11-17 15:46

Well, basically all I did was hold up a pencil and focus on it, then past it to the horizon, back and forth until my distance vision came into focus. I'd repeat this several times a day.
The trick is not so much to condition your eye muscles, but to give you conscious control over the internal muscles that focus the lens.
When you can distinguish between focusing your binocular vision by moving your eyes and focusing your eye lens, you can begin to practice blurring and focusing your eye lens. Bring the focus in and out until, in my case, I was able to relax it enough to bring the horizon into sharp focus.
I never liked the idea of wearing glasses, because you're permanently training your eyes to be dependant on a tool to see.
There was some other stuff, but that was all secondary exercises to promote circulation.

I know what your talkin about I think you should try to teach it. I can almost point my eyes in two different directions cause I started doing it as I have one eye that lags due to vidya games as a kid and squinting it in the sun. Its fixing my lazy eye, and I also almost have like independent control of them if I focus.

I've tried a few times, but people either glaze over, or sound really interested and then forget it.
I should just write it out in notebook and copypaste it, it'd save time...
Junichi Fujiwara · 2017-11-22 08:09
-14 In the left. No light perception in the right. Eyes have been fuarrrked since birth, and a few months ago i found out that early onset macular degeneration is gonna take the rest of my vision even though im only in my early 20s.
How do i deal with it?
Physicaly? I find ways of adapting, fuarrrkhuge text or TTS. I dont really watch tv anymore. Havent read a physical book since highschool because its too difficult. As far as getting around i use a cane and i have to figure out routes ahead of time. Ive lived in the same city my whole life so i dont really get lost anymore.
Mentally? I drink. A lot

Is it economically feasible in your country to acquire a brail display?
Between TTS and brail you could still browser text-only content, at least.

Are you taking lutein and zeaxanthin?
If you smoke, you should stop.
You could try the herb eyebright orally and as an eyebath.

I live in the US, and a braille display is still too expensive. I just dont have the money with medical bills and soykaf. And yeah , i use TTS to do text only content. Its the reason I switched to linux in the first place, its a lot easier to do things from the terminal than fuarrrk with windows.

3 and 5 here, it stopped getting worse some years ago. I'll probably get laser done when I'm about to be 30, for now my glasses have saved me from countless injuries, so I'm not in a hurry.
