if lain herself were to be a druggie what do you think she would take?
Linda Lee · 2021-06-24 12:13
She would probably smoke lots of hash in some dyi pipe. And lets not kid ourselfs, lain has it coming just most of us.
Eldon Tyrell · 2021-06-25 17:05
>>8650 probably stuff that's supposed to increase focus like ritalin since she's our little info-trawling internet junkie <3 that or psychedelics, SEL was a trippy show, just not in the duuude fractals lmao way
Lunch · 2021-06-26 13:00
>>8650 probably RC phenidates, 5-mapb and dxm

Lain as a person or in context of what would have been cannon in the show and game and manga? Because Japan doesn't really have a big drug culture despite cannabis used to be a big part of their culture. They primarily use amphetamines I've read and supposedly only more recently things like LSD, MDMA and cocaine are becoming popular.
Rick Deckard · 2021-06-27 16:26
DPH, lain is a spiderchad
Bobby Newmark · 2021-06-29 07:45
Im not sure their progression most closely aligns with speed usage, single mind fixation the wired and net and developing religious "delusions" around them. The dissasociation, not knowing who they are, if lain was sold as "an anime from the perspective of a girls descent into amphetamine addiction" it would fit entirely better than most things I can think of. But most of the best aspects of the show and of lains character lose a lot of significance in some ways then. I think its better to assume lains fixated and incessant work towards developing her "computer lab", to the point where it looks like it couldnt possibly be done by one person, I think thats more impactful when its understood to just be the way lain is. Or something she did as an agent, of a greater lain or more omnipotent guidance. I think then itd make more sense for lains drug of choice to be something to take the edge off this ceaseless work ethic and fixation, rather than intensify it. A downer perhaps, be it just alcohol or opiates.

>>8665 Maybe lain is into over the counter dissasociatives.

>>8668 Oh boy. Last time I dosed that soykaf I was wandering lost on a 20 min walk home which turned into 4 hours. Thought my buddy was with me. When he disappeared, I thought he had abandoned me. Friends called my phone but I could barely whisper to them. Texts came out looking like Polish, all consonants. The feeling of relief when I "saw" my friend reappear each time in my desperate delirium was truly amazing though. Would suddenly see him halfway up a tree just chilling out talking to me as he's climbing this tree in the middle of a residential neighbourhood. Spiderchad indeed.
Aristóteles Amadópulus · 2021-09-05 07:47
She definitely takes drug and its dmt. “Connected with wired”
Jet Black · 2021-09-10 02:35
>>8668 Yeah this, Lain being a user of deliriants would explain a lot.

ketamine and lain is a match made in heaven

>>8665 >>8678 > Because Japan doesn't really have a big drug culture When Lain was made, magic mushrooms were legal OTC. Not saying the makers used them, but they were readily available.
Lord Nikon · 2022-02-16 23:20
>>8665 What are you talking about? Japan was largely into Magic Mushrooms they even had it imported from the Netherlands and had hidden Magic Mushroom shops until America indirectly pressured the country to crack down on it in 2002 because it "could lead to usage of stronger drugs" the eternal gateway theory of this country. So you would be wrong and this >>10166 Lainanon would be correct. They still use it but can not be caught with it otherwise their careers would be ruined. Although this is more reason to push for Psychedelics legalization and Decriminalization so Japan can make more Lainanon stuff again and creators no longer be prosecuted due to outdated laws on Nature itself. >>10167 There is a difference between having drugs available and having a "drug culture". "drug culture" is largely a western phenomenon. In many other countries (such as Japan or India) marijuana, even stronger strains, have a very different type of usage and connotations. Japanese authorities have always been extremely harsh on hippies and stoners.
Anonymous · 2022-02-17 07:14
>>10169 I will agree on the fact that Drug Culture is a Western Phenomena because we tend to apply labels to everything, especially here in America for some odd reason. But let me counter by also saying that the harshness on "hippies and stoners" is not entirely accurate, Japan has such a workoholic culture that they really do not have much of a Drug culture because of regulations and business reasons or simply because they do not have much free time. Whatever it might be, in my own mainframe opinion i think it's because it's used more as medicine as relaxation or exploration than it is as a thing to discuss constantly. Much like Alcohol after work or an Onsen to relieve stress.

gabepentin it's plentifuland relaxing
Fred Nurk · 2022-03-16 07:19
>>10169 Not quite. Cannabis was a part of Japanese culture itself in the past. You still see signs of it with shinto priests using hemp in some rituals. Apparently a lot of Japanese dont realize it's the same plant so they forgot their past.

>>8650 I 100% think Lain would be a DXM/DPH user. The DPH would pair perfectly with her trippy visions. Most of her "hallucinations" are often indistinguishable from reality to her, (assuming they are hallucinations in an IRL context). These are more in line with deliriants. I would say DXM or any other disassociative just because of the wide range of doses and the effects pair well with her reclused lifestyle. Also let's be honest, she doesn't have many friends to get drugs from, so getting dxm or benadryl from her local shop is more realistic than her talking to dealers. I also could see her getting further into deliriants like Datura.
Nanashi No Gombe · 2022-04-28 15:49
>>10710 >Lain >Hallucinate You're projecting. There were exactly 0 hallucinations in SEL, especially not her. It could be argued that others were hallucinating but that was described as brainwave hacking via omnipresent waveform generators(the hum of wires). Even Accela, a hallucinogen, was described as connected to the wired that "even a wall could manifest as the screen of a monitor." That's why the guy shot himself and people in the club all saw Lain. Her omnipresent 'ghost' hung out there because the format gave her relative existence, so when her ribosomal/meat equivalent showed up everyone recognized her. The guy probably shot himself because Lain's 'ghost' hacked his Accela. If you don't know what a 'ghost' is go watch Ghost in the Shell, our ego and psychology are just data. Further, there is absolutely 0 schizophrenic concepts in SEL, it's just that schizos gunna schiz.
Cereal Killer · 2022-04-28 16:02
>>10711 Have you played the official game? The whole entire plot is Lain getting therapy for her delusions and hallucinations. The story of the game goes with the Anime.
Agent Richard Gill · 2022-04-28 16:05
>>10711 Further, when Lain goes to collect data from the club owner(sysop), it's suggested, but not stated, that the club is more or less a VR/AR experience revolving around Accela, where multiple physical locations exist to overlap as a single unified experience. For example, the lights and music could have been transmitted digitally and received through Accela, and with enough throughput, you could even touch a person you were dancing with who was realistically miles away. This goes in tandem with the overarching theme of the show: The blending of physical and digital. Consider if the plan of the Eastern Calculus was the release of Accela(nano machines) as a self perpetuating addendum to everyday physical reality? They wanted to make Lain into god, but pissed her off in the process, so she deleted them. And since she decided reality was more important, she then turned off all of the Accela, isolating herself from the global network she found, effectively limiting herself to her original local network. When she did this for Arisu, she deleted herself, and her body was destroyed, and in the same way Kami-sama manifested himself as a Ghibli meat monster, she, after many years, decided to come back. Ego, ultimately, is the part of you that wants to be seen.

tobacco is pretty popular. Good chance she'd end up a tobacco user, if anything, just statistically. Alcohol is popular here but I know asiatics sometimes has troubles with it.
