Not sure why anyone would do it recreationally. It has very interesting effects on people with brain damage though where it wakes people from comas and even vegetative states temporarily and may help stroke victims though ironically increases stroke risk.

A lot of medical drugs seem to have side effects that increase the risk of the thing they're supposed to fix. I always love the warnings on anti-depressants that they may make you commit suicide which is the precise thing they wish to make you avoid.

If I'm not mistaken anti-depressants usually fix your motivation before adjusting your mood for the better. So you find yourself feeling like soykaf but motivated to do something about it.
