Currently, trying out binaural beats. Experience seems to be mainly a deep feeling of calm + the effects of deep mediation, I.e. Purple swirls, loss of bodily feeling, sensation of spinning, slowing of thoughts. The guide I read seemed to have experienced the actual sensations of the drugs the beats are supposed to simulate. But it also mentioned that those effects took two months of practice to achieve. Current mental word flow is disjointed, I'm having a hard time staying on topic. Still feel so calm, might be experiencing slight visual stuff, not sure, can't tell.

Is there any actual science or some hard facts behind binaural beats? To me it just seems like voodoo because I've seen so many bullshit videos where people claim that you'll look like Ariana Grande/cute anime girl/etc. if you listen to these binaural beats because they're set to a certain frequency.

Not sure, I'm mainly following some guide from a torrent, that I found on wired.neocities.org in the psyche section. Effects have mainly faded now, going to try another "dose",

I'm gonna be honest, I was completely unaware that binaural beats were supposed to have a deep psychological effect or simulate drugs or whatever. It's just a term I've come across while looking for dark-sounding ambient music. So yes, strictly speaking I've had good experiences with binaural beats, but not a significantly different experience than any other good ambient music.

I've tried binaural beats for insomnia and they're completely worthless just like meditation, ASMR, nature sounds or counting sheep. All this stuff is just new age memes like crystal therapy or feng shui, but in a new youtube-formattable flavor.

I definitely agree that all these "magic frequencies" just may be placebo and it comes down to how you want to look at it, but there are real sciences to calming the mind and opening the gates for a free flowing mind (i.e. meditation or focusing on counting, as you would to regulate breathing. Your brain has a lot more power than you think and the ability to utilize certain receptors & trick your conscious despite external stimuli and what you wish to brush off.

I think when people say things like ASMR or nature sounds are good for insomnia, they really mean it's helpful for non-insomniacs who've been having trouble sleeping (which is true). For actual clinical insomnia though, that kind of thing is basically worthless.
It's like when people say things like "if you're depressed, just smile/think positively/try to be happy/whatever." It might be good advice to people who've just been feeling down lately, but it's soykafty advice for people who actually have clinical depression.
